Trying to to get Google Navigation voice instructions to come through my bluetooth car kit but no joy - Phone is paired with the kit and phone calls come through the kit great ..... Am I missing a setting somewhere in the Car Panel settings I have car kit options as follows: Aito Connect ON and the car kit is selcted as the deault device ...
won't work if the car radio offers just the headset protocol. a2pd must be supported too soll all sounds from the droid will be relayed, like to normal headphones.
Thanks, how can I check if the car kit supports a2pd ??
Ok just checked a bit more about the car kit, it's supposed to sream stereo music so I'm assuming that means it supports A2PD ??
it should. when you connected, go to the bluetooth settings, find the car radio, long tap on it and look in the options if there are 2 checkmarks. 1 is for using as headset, second for media. make sure both are checked, that should do it.
Hello, you should need to put your car kit into audio stream mode... I've got Pioneer radio with BT and when I want to listen music from phone through BT I have to change the source on the radio to BT media stream, otherwise I won't hear the sound. If call is coming radio switch to phone call mode automatically.
thanks got it working, there is a button on the CDPlayer/Bluetooth Unit to switch to A2DP, the moral is always read the manual properly !
i guess i have a reason to continue within this thread:
i don't get the directions vom google navigation too. but, and that's the difference, it work's great with music - which i use all the time - und other apps like sygic. only the google navigation causes trouble.
to be more precise: the directions ARE played, but at such a low volume i can't really hear anything. all the volume-sliders are up to max, but that doesn't show any effect.
so i guess for some reason there's more of a software-issue in my case, since all this worked flawlessly on my former moto milestone.
i do remember it worked in the beginning. maybe rooting the device (and s-off via xtc-clip) started all that, but since i don't use it that often i can't really tell if that's really the case.
so, any ideas?

You'll need to increase media playback volume when you hear the voice prompt. Just press + volume button on the side and bring it to desired level.
I also have some issues with my Parrot 9100 kit. Beginning of the words are cut-off and then you can hear the announcement. I had the same problem with my Desire (not a Desire S) and I solved the problem by installing custom Ginger Villain Rom.
Now I have the same problem with the Desire S.
I guess there must be something with the HTC radio or Sense.
@aenis
thanks for your reply... but since i'm experienced in using g-navi i have already thougt of that, and media (and navi-) volume is, as i've said before, up to max...
Since the update, my Inspire locks up upon first use after connecting to my car. Reboots, then its ok. Anyone else experience anything like this and have any tips to correct it?
stupid thanks button.....
i havent had any problems with 2.3 and bluetooth. mine doesnt lock up when it connects to my car

I have to force stop the Music app (poweramp). tried factory reset but no real difference. Also on the sony mex bt3800 I have, it will display icons for streaming and calls, well sometimes (of course) only one of those will turn on. Re-paired still doing it. grrrr.

I have the Mex-bt2800. You can turn the music streaming on by pressing the pause/play button when it's it bluetooth audio mode.
Sent from my Inspire 4G using the power of the dark side
Yeah, you'd like to think so, hit the arrow for play on poweramp right?
Well not quite as, if you start the car first then switch bluetooth on (you know powersaving) the message will display that the headset connected message then on the stereo , mostly, only the icon for media streaming will appear and the only reliable way to have both streaming and calls is to switch off bluetooth on the car stereo then switching it on again.
Froyo connected all time without issue and so did the 3GS i had previously.
The poweramp issue came about if you already had music playing through the internal speaker, started bluetooth, (you get the streaming media Icon on stereo) , then there would be no sound and poweramp would act if it had paused but no other button would work until it had been force stop. have only found time for a liittle bit of testing so can't tell much more about symptoms.
any other suggestions welcome
Hey there, I haven't had any issues with my BT either. I've used Ninja, Gingerbeast, and ARHD. Still stock. Might root and see if those other roms make a difference. Saw comment on ace root kit thread about something new coming out on that so may put up it until what ever it is announced. Be nice to get rid of the att bloat too.
I've searched around on the forums for an answer to this but could never find anything that seems to match up to my issue.
I have a A2DP enabled headset and want to use it with apps such as Team Speak 3 beta, Vent, and other apps. But for some reason although phone media happily plays over onto my headset. My phone continues to only use the mic built into the phone instead of the bluetooth headset mic.
Any apps designed to use the headset specifically work (ie. normal phone calls, skype, vlingo) but otherwise apps ignore the headset mic.
I already tried using apps like BT Mono and Super BT Mono Froyo but they seem to only pipe audio to the headset, but don't do anything at all with the headset mic.
Does anybody know how to get the headset mic to be selected by apps instead of just the built-in mic?
My device is a Sumsung Galaxy S II ( I9100 ). Both Stock and CyanogenMod Gingerbread
good good good
Still hoping someone may know how to get the Galaxy S II phone to use a bluetooth headset mic instead of the built-in mic on the phone.
I'm really stumped on how to do this.
I still haven't seemed to have any luck finding a way to forcefully map apps to use the headset mic. I'm beginning to wounder if it's possible with the Android OS.
I have the galaxy s2 as well and I've retired several different things and have been unsuccessful with anything I've tried so far... Really difficult to drive and use vent without a headset.
Yeah I'm wanting to do the same thing.. I don't spose you've found a way in the last couple of months? Surely it can be done - may need to get a dev to write something for it though..
Sorry Lilfellabob, still no luck. I find it odd it's so difficulty to remap audio settings.
Even in Ice Cream Sandwich I can't find a way.
The app would need to be written to accept it. Its not a matter of your phone. Its the apps. Think about it for a min. If it works on apps made to use it but another app doesn't work then where does the problem lay?
The thing is, typically other apps should be able to re-route the app to use the headset mic. Alike how there are apps that can force other apps to use bluetooth audio instead of the phone speaker, even if the phone/headset can't use a2dp.

Only if the code is there for it to do it. If they don't code it in then it doesn't work.
I'm having a similar problem but slightly the opposite.
I pair my phone to a Bluetooth device that lets me hear phone output on my car's speakers. However, the phone tries to use Bluetooth for the microphone when none exists. I want to force it to use the on-phone microphone. I can talk and talk but no one can hear me, unless I set the phone output to speaker or handset, which implies setting the phone input to amplified built-in mic, or just built-in mic, respectively.
In the Bluetooth settings I can set to use the Bluetooth device for music or phone, but ideally I would want "Phone" to be separated into "Phone output" and "Phone input" so I could uncheck input (and thus use the built-in mic.) This should be implemented at the Android level so that the setting can apply to all apps.
The same problem occured when I wired (2-stripe phone-to-car audio only, no mic) my Palm Pre directly to my car. I just tried with my GNex and it was smart enough to use the built-in mic when a microphone-less plug was connected.

wrong. its in the kernel. the new firmware on the android is is capable to transmit Audio Steam to Headset device as Audio only. i wont go 100% against coding to force it to but if they wanted to theres have to be some kind of exploit to do so. lets say if skype were to find that exploit or code it, it would be probably violate android policy.

Actually, what's going on is Skype is using the 'bluetooth device' hook of some sort, just like other apps that support piping audio to the bluetooth headset. However most apps don't use the bluetooth device API/hook and just dumbly send their audio to 'default output device' and 'default input device' blindly and let the OS or Kernel decide where to send it.
The OS or Kernel when it senses a bluetooth device with the 'media' profile on it is present, it changes the default output device to the headset, but it doesn't seem to bother doing the same for the bluetooth mic for the default input device.
Because apps like Teamspeak 3 just blindly use default audio device because it doesn't use bluetooth APIs in the app itself, I have no way to make it use the headset mic.
I wish someone could make a mod or app that will allow mapping the default input to a bluetooth mic when present.
As far as I know, Skype has problems using the BT mike as well. In fact, they took a user survey regarding the issue for android and iOS users. However, I cannot find the results of that survey / study, and Skype recommendations thereof.
User choice to use BT mike seems so BASIC to me, I wonder how it was overlooked...!
Rooting will crack open the full power of your Android device!

Rooting the device would give apps or the user permissions to modify system audio controller's (idk if it is anything like ALSA or anything..) settings to make app use the audio channel for the bluetooth headset... an example for the Galaxy s2 i9100 i have is the radio app "Sprit FM" has a "volume control stream" setting which allows the user to select what volume "control" will control the volume of the app's audio output
anywho... i hope it helps a little
rwong48, I have now the same problem that you have described. Have you solved it with any app for Andorid?
Thanks!
Solution
I found an app that solves this problem on android devices, it's called btmono and you can find it in the Google store. I tried to post the link but I don't have enough posts under my belt...
Anyways, pair your device, open the program (such as ts3), connect to your server and then turn on btmono. Voila!
Well, I tried to delete this after I saw that you had already tried btmono, but I couldn't figure out how so just disregard this message.
I already tried btmono, sadly although it works for the output audio, it does *not* work with the headset mic. Programs like TS3 will still keep using the phone's built-in mic, not the headset mine despite using btmono. The only thing btmono does is pipe the output audio to the headset only.
Thanks for the suggestion though
I can't believe they haven't fixed that yet. It is so basic...
Hey guys I'm going through the same issues with my note 2. Svoice was the only one that works but its painfully slow and inaccurate.
Anyways I've tried utter! robin and aivc. Aivc works pretty good but at least it uses the mic.
Utter is really promising but no Bluetooth mic. The devs have acknowledged it though. So hopefully soon.
Update: AIVC has one downfall. The app can't open if the screen is locked like utter and svoice can when prompted from bluetooth. Also, it only listens automatically the first time. If you close it without killing the app, you'll have to press the mic icon manually every time (which takes away from the purpose of handsfree).
Just been testing the new SBH80 headset with the Z1C for a couple of days. Overall it's a nice bit of kit, lightweight and comfortable. The aptX support on the Z1C gives fantastic quality sound, the buds allow a good seal and isolate ambient noise well. The cable is very thin - not sure how long it will last, tbh - and the earphones are tiny, you hardly know they're in your ears. Connecting and pairing are super easy using NFC with the Z1C, and BT reception is good if not as strong as some others, like the MW600.
Otherwise I noted a few things if anyone's thinking of using them with the Z1 Compact:
- Each time the Walkman app is brought to the foreground while playing music, there is crackling and intereference for about 3-4 seconds. Seems to be related to the Throw option kicking in - setting to manual doesn't help.
- Notifications for text messages don't make the headset vibrate, as advertised; incoming calls do. There seems no way to control this behaviour in any case - no app like with SBH50, for instance.
- The manual states that battery level for the headset can be checked under Power Management > Accessories. No such option exists on the Z1C ... yet?
- aptX can't be disabled for increased battery life as with other Sony headsets.
The neck unit is bulkier than I expected, and the battery rating of 8 hours is less than it could have been given the size - the Jaybird Bluebuds X manage the same with all the electronics squeezed into just the earphones. Still, it's a decent performer and has a premium quality so worth a look I reckon.
[Link to Sony product page]
If I may add my 5 cents here, I have been using mine with my Nexus 5 for about a month now and it works great. Sadly there is no Apt-X with the Nexus 5 but other than that it works well.
I found the back of the device (which goes behind your neck) to be comfortable enough to the point that sometimes I will check the back of my neck to see if it is still there as you get used to it very quickly.
Sadly as ghtop put it there is no vibration for any type of notification other than incoming calls (not even sound on the earphones for that matter which is a little annoying when listening to music since I'd like to know I am getting an SMS or something) and I haven't been able to find any way to see the battery level for the device in the phone.
I definitely recommend it though this is my first Bluetooth headset ever so I can't compare to other models in the same category.
Also on funny fact: It is stated in many websites that the device is splash proof however I cannot find any IP rating anywhere in the manual and it even says that you should not expose the device to humidity or water in the manual so I don't know where those sites got that information.
Just to add a little upate: with the new Smart Connect version - 5.6.24.215 - a persistent notification when connected to the device shows the headset battery level and time remaining (including standby time), and also shows on the device info page in the Smart Connect app. Still no Power Management > Accessories tab on KitKat though.
The sound quaity really blows other BT devices out of the water
Sound interrupts...
Got the headset 3 day ago. Sound quality is good although I'm experiencing sound gaps every 2 minutes for about a second or less. It is annoying . Firstly I thought that it could be connected with the headset itself but I tried it with another cells and the gap never appeared. Now I think that it is connected with the Smartconnect app or Throw function... I turned of the the smartconnect and now testing it. Will report on result...

Hello "maniaacos", mainly I bought this headset for sports purpose and, until now, I am quit satisfied. I find them very comfortable to run or for cycling, they are very light (although not as light as advertised, if I recall it, they have around 10 g more than advertised), I find they fit in the ear properly (in a one hour run I occasionally have to readjust them, but it's definitely not a deal breaker for me), the remote controls are very practical, and you can easily take them of the ear and let them hanged on your neck/chest. Finally, until now, I had no sweat problems with them, but, considering it as only past a week since I received them, I will have to wait a little longer to have a more accurate insight about this. Feel free to ask me more details.

Unfortunately my tests with frozen liveconnect app and throw function turned off failed. I still experience music interruptions. Moreover if I stream music through other devices and my z1 compact is connected to the headset via multipoint interruptions appear as well. Now I think it can be connected with the bluetooth driver itself as it was reworked to support LE (low energy protocol). Hopefully we will find the solution. I sent a query to sony support. Will get back when they respond.

Hello, like you, at this time, I didn't come to any conclusion. So, I am still trying to understand why some times I experience those symptoms and why they are not present in other ocasions. :-/ Let's stay in contact in order to try figure this out...
Hello "AseDance", have you been using the headset with the Wi-Fi on? If so, try to turn it of and see if the music interruptions continue. In my last two runs, I turned of the wi-fi and everything worked ok. It's maybe just a coincidence, tomorrow I will try it again with the wi-fi on. Note that, in my office, with a strong wi-fi connection everything works like a charm, because of that, I suspect that while running outdoor, maybe when the phone tries to connect with diferent wireless points it messes up the Bluetooth connection... :-/

I freezed all the bloatware, installed running app cleaner and guess what? It almost helped. The key word is ALMOST. Anyway It's better than nothing. Sony support asked me to reset the headset (put it on a charge, then press and hold the phone button till it vibrates). I did it but will test it a little later as I'm in office now. You can try. Maybe the problem was with the very first connection. I personally believe that it's all about the radio and it's firmware. I found a forum were a man indicates the same problem with z1. From the online User Guide:
Resetting the headset
Reset the headset if it behaves unexpectedly. Resetting the headset removes all information about paired devices.
To reset the headset:
1. Turn off the headset, then connect the charger so that the headset starts to charge.
2. Press and hold down [phone button on the headset] until the headset vibrates briefly.

Hi folks,
I got this new phone and I have a question regarding Bluetooth and Spotify. With my old smartphones(ZUK Z2 Pro or Samsung S7) connecting Spotify through Bluetooth, I can change songs/volumes on my car dash entertainment system. But with this smartphone I can not. Only thing shown is "Sony XZ Premium", which is the name of the device.
Do I need special configurations for this phone to get it work with the dash system?
Yours
I laso tested other apps like vlc etc. and none of them are controlable with the wheel controls or the car system. Seems to be a bug....
I don't have an issue with music control via my car to Deezer.
There is an general issue with bluetooth in Android 7.1.1 version. I have a problem with song information not being updated, however my car controls works, for most of the time. It seems like this problem is not present in newer cars/radios.
Yeah, I tried today also other apps like VLC/Deezer/Music app and all of them have this bug. I hope there is a fix soon. It is really annoying while driving that I can not change a song I don't want to listen to. I contaced also Sony Xperia Care, but they wanted to tell me it the car which is defective and not the smartphone...
sorry to go off on a tangent, but have you got deezer to work? I cannot for the life of me get deezer to work for me. Can you let me know what settings you are using, eg cache, etc... I have a support call open with deezer, even trying their beta but app just does not work - does not play anything...
Yeah I'm having this issue with Google Play music. Guessing it's a Bluetooth 5 codec.
Reported on Sony's forums as well,
Fingers crossed for a fix

I have the same problem, Spotify will not update the track information on what's playing. I hope there is a fix for it soon, kinda annoying. That and the wifi issues. Lucky I have unlimited data.
Mine just connected like normal. Seems like it sounds better than my last phone also. I did have a problem where it kinda froze the Bluetooth on my receiver and had to restart that. My receiver is pretty old though. Spotify working fine with it but with your same issue
Same issue with a mini cooper s 2017. I'm able to connect to the car for phone calls and contact sharing but unable to play any music via bluetooth. It seems that the phone shows as connected but the car just says as connecting. I really hope this issue is fixed soon.

Well Minis are technically BMWs so I guess the bluetooth interface is the same.
I managed to stream audio to my friend's Chevy Cruize but without the streering wheel controls (skip, vol up/down).=
Try pairing again and update your iDrive system (ask your dealership for more info about that)

Well Minis are technically BMWs so I guess the bluetooth interface is the same.
I managed to stream audio to my friend's Chevy Cruize but without the streering wheel controls (skip, vol up/down).=

Spoke to Sony who refuse to believe their device is a fault.. No plans to release any software tweaks till Android P apparently.

After messing around with settings and bluetooth I was able to achieve a connection to media audio. If you have Google Play Music installed, that is part of the bluetooth culprit.
1. Force stop Google Play Music under app settings.
2. Turn off bluetooth.
3. Toggle bluetooth back on, and under BMW/Mini go to the media menu and select your phone, after a few seconds you should be able to achieve a bluetooth media connection and you can run Google Play Music again.
I'm not sure if this can fix the spotify issue, but I was able to get my Google Play Music to work via bluetooth on my Mini, it is kind of annoying having to do all those steps anytime I get off the car, but then again, my drives are usually pretty long so I don't mind doing it at least a couple times a day.
Let me know if that worked for you.
