Model : gt-i9003
firmware version: 2.3.6
baseband version: i9003jxkp3
kernel version : 2.6.35.7-cl982987 [email protected] #1
build number : gingerbread.jpkph
*#1234#
PDA : i9003jpkph
phone: i9003jxkp3
scs : i9003ojpkpc
I downloaded I9003JPKPH_I9003OJPKPC_EGY.zip from sammobile.com
how to flash it?.... all the guides talk about 4 files, for example:
CODE_I9003XXKPE_CL409735_REV08_user_low_ship.tar
MODEM_I9003XXKPE_REV_00_CL1041909.tar
APBOOT_I9003XXKPE_CL409735_REV08_user_low_ship.tar
GT-I9003-CSC-MULTI-OXAKPE.tar
the zip I downloaded contains only 2 files
1. I9003JPKPH_I9003OJPKPC_I9003JXKP3_HOME.tar
2. SS_DL.dll
so should i flash with odin it as pda with repartition, auto reboot and f.reset time checked or should i flash it with CWM after i wipe
or that would brick my phone?
Open odin>put single file (not the .dll one) in PDA and press start. Although i suggest you flash XXKPE first. There is a high chance it will have a bootloop if you didn't flash XXKPE first.

How can i check the firmware version if my phone is stuck on samsung logo. I cannot dial *#1234#, and was wondering if there was any other way to tell. I bought the phone off ebay, and it worked for a while. Now the phone gets stuck on the samsung logo, so i can't dial that number.
If you are hung up with the boot loop, it's difficult that you'd able to know the firmware.
I suggest flashing a stable stock ROM via Odin.
Go for either xxkpq or,ddlf2.
Detailed procedure to install can be found on the stickies of Android development section.(you'd have to install pit file, then xxkpe, then either xxkpq or ddlf2)
But if you still have warranty left, and want to still retain it, try to see if you can figure from the box or sticker under the battery, the county or region it was made for.
And flash firmware accordingly.
You can find the list of firmware (region specific) on the stickies on development section, with download links.

No, you can't directly flash ddlf2 directly if you need a clean install.
As ddlf2 is a value pack, you'd need to install xxkpe first, add it has all the components of gingerbread, viz. Bootloader, modem, csc, kernel, pda, param, system etc.
I request you to follow this order.
Latona.pit from xxkpe, then xxkpe, then ddlf2, then appropriate cf root kernel for ddlf2.
Press thanks if helped
If you don't need a clean install, and you are on any gingerbread version, you can flash ddlf2 without any issues.
But it's just recommended to go for a clean install to avoid future problems.

Instructions (Gingerbread)
If you don't have Samsung Kies installed in your computer, download and install Samsung USB Drivers. Download Odin 3.07 (latest), too.
Go to: http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/, type "I8160" in the search and download the firmware you want. Alternatively you can make/download a pre-rooted firmware from the second post if you want.
Extract the firmware and you will get something like I8160XXLL2_I8160OXXLL2_HOME.tar.md5
Make sure that you have at least 15% battery. Put your phone in Odin Mode. (Turn off your phone, and then press: volume down + home + power button simultaneously for 3-4 seconds)
Open Odin 3.07, connect your phone and you will see an ID:COM box filled with blue at the top-left corner. (1st image)
Tick 'PDA' click it to select the I8160*****_I8160******_HOME.tar.md5 file you extracted in step 3.
Take a deep breath. Press 'Start'. The flashing process will take about 6 minutes.
When you see a green box with 'PASS' at the top-left corner, then you can disconnect the phone's cable. (2nd image)
Enjoy.
Instructions (Jelly Bean)
If you don't have Samsung Kies installed in your computer, download and install Samsung USB Drivers. Download Odin 3.07 (latest), too.
Go here to download XXMB2 JB leak (outdated) or here to download XXMB4 JB leak (outdated). You can find ME7/MF1 on Ace 2 General Forum.
Extract the firmware and you will see a few files. CODE_I8160XXMF1.tar, CSC_OXA_I8160OXAMF1.tar and GT-I8160_EUR_XX_4G.pit will be used in ODIN.
(1st image)
(Skip this step if you are already on JB) If you are on a GB firmware, click 'PIT' and select GT-I8160_EUR_XX_4G.pit. Re-partition box should be checked in options. Warning!!! Don't tick repartition if you are already on MB2/MB4/MC8 and you want to go to a newer firmware!
Click 'PDA' and select CODE_I8160XXMF1.tar & 'CSC' and select CSC_OXA_I8160OXAMF1.tar.
Take a deep breath. Press 'Start'. The flashing process will take about 8 minutes.
When you see a green box with 'PASS' at the top-left corner, then you can disconnect the phone's cable. (2nd image)
Enjoy.
Notes:
Odin: Its the latest available version, slightly modified by me, so all other options & file download options except 'PDA' are deactivated for safety.
Firmware: Always update to the latest available so you have the more recent bugfixes, stability fixes and new features.
Upgrading with Odin, won't wipe your data & won't increase the flash counter.
I take no resposibility if your phone explodes or sth
Official ROOTED firmwares for the SGA2 (Multi-CSC)
PRE-ROOTED STOCK FIRMWARES
The following firmwares are completely stock, original firmwares, with only the addition of the 2 needed files, su binary and Superuser.apk.
(Explanation: The first one (su) is the 'root' itself, while the second is the app that allows or denies superuser permissions to other processes).
This does not have CWM recovery, or any modifications. You can add those later yourself, if you wish. This is just the Samsung rom, rooted. Nothing more.
If you have OXX csc in your firmware (most of central-eastern Europe does; you can check by typing *#1234# and looking at the CSC - I8160OXXxxx), feel free to flash it on top with Odin, it will not wipe your data.
You don't have to install stock firmware first and then this. You should install this directly. Its stock firmware + SuperSU
This does NOT trigger the flash counter!
- Unroot
If for some reason you don't want to be root anymore, (e.g. returning your phone for service or selling it), just go into the SuperSU app, go to settings, and press Full Unroot. That's it, no more root.
(Goes without saying: you should first remove any mods you did while rooted).
- Download
I8160XXLL2 (Android 2.3.6, OXX multi-csc, PDA: I8160XXLL2, CSC: I8160OXXLL2, SuperSU 1.0.2 included)

Flash Custom Kernel - Install CWM/TWRP Recovery - Reset Flash Counter
Flash Custom Kernel - Install CWM/TWRP Recovery
If you want to flash a custom kernel so you have CWM/TWRP recovery and then flash a rom, here is a simple, mini guide how to do it (after flashing the pre-rooted rom from the 2nd post, without increasing the flash counter.
Download a custom kernel from here (eX Kernel) or here (Antsm's kernel). If you want a stock kernel with CWM and init.d support only go for the 2nd one.
If it is a .tar file, extract it, if it has .tar.md5 extension, remove the .md5 first and then extract it until you get "kernel.bin.md5" or "kernel.bin" file.
Copy the "kernel.bin.md5" file loose to your internal sdcard (phone's internal memory).
Open Google Play and download Android Terminal Emulator.
Open it and type:
Code:
su (grant Superuser permissions)
dd if=/sdcard/[B]kernel.bin[/B].md5 of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p15
reboot
Note: hit enter after each line
Done!
Reset Flash Counter - Bring back your Warranty
If for any reason you have flashed/rooted the phone with odin and you have a flash counter > 0, antsm did find a solution for you.
Just for the info:
To manually reset "CUSTOM FLASH COUNTER", open the Terminal and type:
Code:
su
dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/block/mmcblk0 bs=1 count=1 seek=3145732
Warning: The manually way is not recommended! If you do a typo, you can brick your phone!! Only for experienced users.
Head over to the original thread to download and install i8160_reset_ANT.zip file from the CWM/TWRP Recovery to reset the custom flash counter and current binary automatically.
For JB, download Triangle Away!
I'm buying this phone for my sister later today and I'm almost certain it will come with network bloat. I love that 5 seconds searching on XDA brings up a simple clear thread like this and I know that as soon as I get home I can flash a 'clean' stock ROM.
Thank you.

Thanks for such clear instructions to flash without updating the count. Couple of questions, my SGA2 has firmware I8160XXLK7, is this one of yours compatible and is LL2 just newer than LK7 or do the numbers mean something else?
Also when I do *#1234# I do have 'CSC' so should I first flash PDA then CSC and do I select the same file for both? The version of Odin I downloaded doesn't allow to select CSC, is there another way to do it?
And why do we not flash 'PHONE' ?
Thank you!

Yes, you need custom kernel with CWM or TWRP recovery
Fast question here cus i'm new with samsung stuff... i have to install official "I8160XXLL2_I8160OXXLL2_NEE.zip"(from sasmung site) and after that i can install I8160XXLL2 rooted one from second post and i dont need a custom kernel, right?
atm i have XXLK6
I have seen threads being spammed with people not being able to upgrade to 4.4.2 and asking for help so i thought it would be better to make a thread for that purpose.
There is no need to root the polish stock rom if you want to move on to a custom rom after you have updated the new 4.4.2 bootloader!
You Know the deal if anything goes wrong then the blame is on you not me...
In this guide the links are for the older 4.4.2 stock polish rom "N9005XXUENA6_N9005OXXENA5".
For the newest stock rom N9005XXUENB3 and newer when available click here and put N9005 in the search box and download what ever country closest to yours that is available.
ODIN 307
Download Polish stock 4.4.2 rom "Mega mirror" and flash via Odin 307 in PDA tab and remember to tick Phone Bootloader Update.
Download TWRP for 4.4.2 and flash via Odin 307 in PDA tab. I didnt like the other recovery so i use TWRP and it's much better in my opinion.
Now you should see if the phone boots up the 4.4.2 polish stock. If it does then go to step 4. If it doesnt then move to Odin 309.
Now flash you chosen custom rom via recovery. Enjoy :victory:
ODIN 309
Download Polish stock 4.4.2 rom "Mega mirror" and flash via Odin 309 in AP tab and remember to tick Phone Bootloader Update.
Download TWRP for 4.4.2 and flash via Odin 309 in AP tab.
Now you should see if the phone boots up the 4.4.2 polish stock. If it does then move to step 4. IF it doesn't then move to step 5.
Now flash you chosen custom rom via recovery. Enjoy :victory:
Download 4.4.2 bootloader and flash with Odin 309 in BL tab. This is only done if the stock 4.4.2 rom dosn't upgrade the bootloader. Let it boot so you can check if it worked. If it did boot into 4.4.2 stock then go back to step 4. Last resort if the above didnt work is to try the SamMobile way below.

Does it have to be Polish ? Can we use other ones ?
Also, do we have to tick Phone Bootloader Update ?
I didn't tick this earlier, so it kinda screwed the phone. Softbricked it and then "kinda" fixed it.
And BTW, Phone Bootloader Update in 307 is disabled, greyed out.
But I'm running into some problems. Now I need to re-flash it.

If you follow the guide it will work and if 307 didnt work for you then 309 will.
Yes just go with the polish version to be on the safe side. I have only tried the polish version so i cannot speak for the other versions. If the 309 dont work eather then download the separete bootloader i have provided and flsh it with 309 and tick the Phone Bootloader Update.
Well, this one requires to update the modem. Not really sure I want to do that.
But, should I update Bootloader via Odin ?

md5 hash please
Hi
Can you please post the md5 hash of the file N9005XXUENA6_N9005OXXENA5_XEO.zip
MEGA does not provide hashes. The file is long and, I think it is worthwhile to check it before flashing it.
Thanks for your excellent guide.
i dont have a md5 but i checked with md5 checker and the file i have on my harddisk has - 7730BABC7713DFBE5934278FD653B3F7

Is it not better to install one of the final 4.4.2 by now ? any recommendation of those ?

Doesn't matter if you are gonna flash a custom rom after you get the new bootloader on the phone.
So it all depends what you wanna archive.

Step 4) Unzip the downloaded firmware and you will get a tar file.
Step 5) Click on pda in odin (if odin 3.09 choose AP) and choose the ".tar" file.
Step 6) Tick "Auto Reboot" and "F. Reset Time" options and make sure that "Re-Partition" is unchecked
!!!!DO NOT CHECK "Nand Erase All" IN ANY WAY!!!!
Step 7) Click on Start button in ODIN window to start the flashing process. The process will take few minutes to complete.
DO NOT UNPLUG USB CABLE WHILE EXECUTING THE PROCESS, YOU MAY BRICK YOUR PHONE!
Step 8) When the installation is completed, you read a "Reset " then a "Pass". your phone will restart (first boot will take a longer time so don't panic) :good:
It is recommended to do a factory reset after flashing to have a fresh official firmware. Personally, i prefer to wipe data and cache before and after flashing the firmware.

Odin troubleshooting: If Odin accidentally gives you "fail" try the following:
- Repeat procedure.
- Make sure that all actions of Kies are disabled from task manager.
- Change usb port.
- Try another usb cable (make sure it is the original).
- Try another Odin version.
- Uninstall and re-install driver.
- Try another computer.
Bootloop troubleshooting: Bootloop occurs when a smartphone is not able to boot properly and stuck on Bootanimation and mainly caused by system files interfering with each others which cause instability and/or crash at the boot sequence. How to fix:
- Boot the device either into stock or custom recovery, wipe cache then reboot. If the device still bootloops, boot again in recovery and wipe data/factory reset then reboot. If the bootloop still isn’t fixed:
- Restore a nandroid backup with custom recovery if present. If not:
- Flash or reflash the official stock firmware. If not:

Stock firmwares don't trip the knox counter. But if your knox is already tripped like I said there is no way to reset it, flashing stock won't help.

Today I was trying to flash my Samsung Galaxy Note 3 N9005 to 4.4.2 but I was always getting a fail by using .zip file from Luxumbourg, so just a word of warning but not confirmed...dont use their .zip files to flash your phone..
I used the Poland one to flash my phone and it worked flawlessly..
Amazing thread, subscribed!

Eg.
