I recently installed a new 4.3 rom and I love it except they don't include an option to disable the battery charging light. Is there anyway to disable this by editing rom files ect?

I am running a ported rom called dirty unicorn. It is a pretty slick rom but it has no option to disable the battery light anywhere I have combed through every setting. So I was wondering if there is a system file I could modify to just disable it.

I saw you over at that other forum! I've been going mad trying to find a solution. Try under "sound -> quiet mode" a bit of deep googling found that as a potential hiding spot for the setting. (I'm back on stock and don't want to flash DU without knowing if this can be disabled.) I poked around in the DU build.prop, and wasn't able to find anything there either.

i actually tried light flow and several other apps like that and they don't seem to be able to override the roms default.

I had looked in there and have it enabled but even though notifications are disabled at night the battery light is not so thats a no go. Ive even been trying to merge the settings from a rom that had this option into the settings apk in this rom but haven't been able to get it to work. I looked in the build prop as well with no luck. I did find something in the sys/class/leds folder but it won't let me edit the charging folder even with root.

Those class files look really promising.
I was able to open them using ES file explorer on stock, looks like you could just modify the max_brightness one to 0, or something similar.

I tried that but couldn't get the values to stick. I even tried deleting the charging folder but every operation fails.
I was able to Enable the charging light on stock using those files. Interesting that motorola has that feature kind of built-in with no front-end access.
What a bummer that it won't work for you. This weekend I think I'll flash back to DU and poke around.

it should...why dont you try it and let us know what happens
It works. I was messing around with it the other day to see how bright it would get. there's some code in the kernel to up the leds brightness, which is in my kernel so you may not have the 'torch' mode if your kernel doesn't have it added. you'll know it if it does if you've used the full brightness with the app. damn near brighter than mag light I keep in my toolbox. Actually not damn near, it is brighter. blinding.

i tried it on ingersoll but it doesn't even recognize it as an .apk but thanks anyway
That just means it wasn't installed right. all you have to do is drop it in /system/app with root explorer AND set the permissions as rw, r,r(0644), then reboot. If you don't set permissions it won't show up.
Hi guys
need some advice here.
I've been installing apk file from dropbox for testing purpose for few weeks. Occasionally I couldn't press the install button (on the install screen), but it resolved itself after few attempts.
However, it doesn't seem to work any more. I just can't press the install button, but OK for the Cancel button. I've tried restarting with/without pulling out the battery. It still doesn't work.
Have googled the issue, only able to find this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1150096
But I don't have screen filter app installed, so that doesn't explain my issue.
Anyone have the same issue and know how to fix it?
Much appreciated.
Cheers
Tony
PS. Im installing from dropbox.
When you say you are installing from drop box I take it you are using the Drop Box app. If so I would just try to install by opening your favored file explorer app, mine is Astro File explorer. Anyway find it with the file explorer and then try to install it that way. Or you can uninstall the Drop Box app and then reinstall it. Maybe something has gone wrong with the app. Just a quick suggestion.

Yes, Im using dropbox app. I've tried to copy the apk to my sd card and used appinstaller and astro to install it, still doesn't work.
I've also disable a screen brightness app Lux which I suspected have a similar bug to screen filter app, but still doesn't work ><

Thanks for everyone replies. Problem resolved
Yeah it's a bug that you get with apps like Lux and Screen Filter. Somewhere within Lux there is a setting that lets you exclude certain apps and I think within the most recent build of the app it will automatically disable itself when you install an application
For what's it worth:
I've had the same issue when using JuiceDefender.
I've granted Juice Defender acces to controll the brightness of the screen, because the auto brightness control in my HTC One X is too bright.
This caused the same problem!
After disabling Juice Defender's auto brightness, the installation of app's works as usual.

I am talking about Paranoid Android's very useful tweak. The "Do Not Disturb" option in settings menu where it completely disables the ticker animation whenever there's a notification.
This is a great tweak for me because whenever a friend borrows my phone to browse the web or to send an sms, he/she sees the COMPLETE incoming text thru the ticker animation. This is really an annoying accidental invasion of my privacy.
"So why don't you just use paranoid android rom?"
Well, because that mod is the only reason i was able to stick to that rom for almost 2 weeks.
I am more than willing to create a custom rom that suits my exact preferences but i lack the time and skills to do it.
Okay so i've searched EVERYWHERE (trust me) but i can't find an individual mod that does exactly this.
Thanks for reading and I am very grateful if anyone answers. :good:

Does it only affect SMS/MMS? If so, the mod can probably be cleanly packaged into a modded mms.apk and the setting option/toggle moved from PA settings to mms settings. Can't say, never used it, but someone with time on their hand can probably track it in the PA git.

It affects all ticker animations that pop up on the status bar whenever there's a notification.
For example, when i turn the feature on and i use titanium backup to do a batch restore, the icon is still there but there will be no ticker animation.
It's quite redundant if you ask me.

Yeah, i've just pointed it if somebody needs it
I noticed when playing my music w/ Viper FX that the sound quality goes from using the drivers of the app to stock flat (audio quality depreciates) since the app was killed while performing another task (such as opening hangouts or other apps while using phone). I noticed that Android doesn't release the RAM from another app that was being used (ex. ESPN, hangouts, etc) since those apps were more recent while Viper was opened and left. I was wondering if there existed anything to set a higher priority of the Viper FX (or other apps) over some so they won't be killed even if newer used? Thanks for any information.
Think this would probably be the easiest way: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.smartprojects.MemoryLocker - the developer is very well known for these kinds of mods and RAM management. Adjusting the oom ratio will give the app higher priorities so make it less likely to be killed. I'm sure there are ways to manual doing it via adding a script or something, but time and effort for all that, I dunno if it's worth it unless you really like to tinker and do stuff manually.
Thank you, that will probably be easier way with root. Was checking to see if any way to do manually since don't need just for Viper but may have to do it.
Ah, sorry. I was thinking that you had to have root for Viper, so that you were already rooted. Pretty sure there isn't a way to make these kinds of tweaks without root either manually or via an app like Memory Locker. There really isn't a compelling reason NOT to root, in my opinion. It's not complicated (compared to most other phones) and is fairly easy to reverse. If you'd like some help with it, lemme know.
I am rooted, sorry. Would it be possible to push the app from user app status to system app (via file explorer/permissions) (such as MusicFX)? Installed normally and it works great but maybe, if by making a system app, it'd be less likely to be killed versus user?
Don't want to use titanium backup push to system, had bad experiences and will not use the app again for some time.
Theres discussion about putting viper in /system/priv-app in one of the two viper thread's in themes and apps (n5).
I still have mine in /data/data.

Hi,
I have not tested and I don't know if it will be useful but there is an Xposed module to keep apps in memory, maybe you can try... This module is not only for this, there is other features.
Here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2437377.
- Resident in memory: If set, the system will try much harder to keep the app in memory even when you leave it. It might make the app more responsive when reopening but will also consume more RAM, possibly slowing down the overall system.

Well I don't know if this is something that we can do or something the people who made the Viper audio mod need to do. Wouldn't a good way to keep it in memory be to keep a persistent notification? It really bumps up an app's priority in Android when it has an on-going notification up on the notification bar.

Yeah, exactly that. I just installed it again after a clean wipe of my phone a few days ago and have begun tinkering with it and JUST found that setting. To OP: enable the persistent notification. That'll make sure Viper4Android a high priority app when it sweeps through its open apps looking for one to close.

I think "hiding" it is actually "preventing" it, thus undoing what you want to achieve.

I am not sure on this one. The first thing that comes to mind is long-pressing the notification, going to App info, then unchecking the box that says "Show notifications". However, I think if you do that, it lowers its importance, circumventing the advantage of showing the notification in the first place, and you're back to square one. So I guess I don't know how to help you with this part.
Yeah, I suppose we should probably move to the thread listed above, too.
Thought you all might like a little more room. This app is amazing! I tested it on 360!!! If you go lower I cant tell you what happens. I tested from 480 all the way to 360 and I have to say 360 works the best!

Did this not change your dialpad? I change dpi manually and anything under stock made the dialer wrong.
Just checked. Ya same here. I don't mind I just have more room on the home screen. I just know this was the best setting for Gallery. If I remember right it did the same to the Dial pad too on my Note 3. That was the only bad thing.
PS Camera is a little smaller too.

Ya seems that AOSP was never struck with this issue, only Touchwiz based roms. I use Nova to get around the homescreen sizing.
Thanks for the share. I will have to give it a try.
I have been using the xposed module app settings. Nice module for anyone who is not familiar. Allows settings for dpi, force full screen, etc on a per app basis which is good I think as some apps I have a different dpi than others.
I agree with your thoughts on 360 for this device.

~120, and systemUI FC'd so badly I had to ODIN back to stock.

Hmm that's strange. I will say that the line in my build prop is earlier in, than in the past with other devices. As soon as I start scrolling I'll go though some # signs than it is the second line past them.

No actually at&t s5, maybe thats the issue. Ill try asking around in the att forum.
Hmm wouldn't think that the build props would differ as far as basic device info, but maybe. Defiantly keep info posted here if you figure something out just for our future reference.
Well, just for kicks tried to add the line again and lo and behold it worked lol. So for future reference, if you are missing the lcd density line in your build.prop, adding it to the bottom works.

Just checked. Ya same here. I don't mind I just have more room on the home screen. I just know this was the best setting for Gallery. If I remember right it did the same to the Dial pad too on my Note 3. That was the only bad thing.
PS Camera is a little smaller too.

Messes up the lockscreen too especially if you're using fingerprint for security.
