VZ S3 - Liquid Smooth - cannot change TXT ringtone - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

I just noticed that I cannot change the txt (Messaging) ringtone. It seems to be stuck on one called Pyxis. Thus far, I've cleared cache etc on app and used Titanium to restore a previous version but I might have restored the the same version from my backup... with no success.
>>(UPDATE) I just found that if I change the phone ringtone it changes the txt ringtone to the same thing but still cannot change the txt ringtone separately.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Hi. I realize this thread is from a few weeks ago, so I don't know if you've figured it out already, but there's a few things that come to mind. First is, under "volumes" uncheck the link system and ringtone volumes". Then, under "system" look at the default notification sound... there you should be able to change the sound. I use liquid 2.10, and for me it works flawlessly. I've read a lot here about people having problems running 4.3 roms but I've been lucky I guess. Well, first time I ran into a problem as I used titanium to restore apps and data (caught in boot loop) and I was told that there's the problem with apps from 4.2 to 4.3. So after restoring my nandroid I used helium to selectively backup and restore app data, not a problem since. Also, the flash method is unusual to me. Supposed to wipe, rewipe everything, then flash the Rom, boot up, set up phone (everything but Google apps), then power off, boot back into recovery and flash gapps separately. I haven't run into anything not working. I have a different ringtone for calls and a separate sound for notifications. You probably know all this stuff already, but I'm only trying to describe what I did and how it works for me.

[Q] Cyanogenmod 6.1.1 mms doesn't work

So I finally decided it was time for a new ROM after living with a Rooted stock for so long.I'm loving Cyanogenmod but with one issue. I cannot receive pictures from other Aria's... I got a picture from an iPhone but two other users that have Aria's sent me pictures and they simply says download of message was unsuccessful... I read about some setting changes with APN but that didn't seem to work with any of the changes I tried. Is this a known issue I somehow missed, a bug I should report somewhere, or am I just doing something wrong?
I personally don't know anyone else with an Aria...but I receive MMS messages all the time with no problem from many different phone...including other Androids. Don't know. I would try clearing data, both caches and try flashing again.
Yeah I have thought about reflashing since it was my first run at it with this phone but I didn't notice until a couple of days into having it, just got moved in! Oh well, that's the price for doing this kind of stuff. I was just curious to see if anyone else was having issues like I mine.
My opinion would be to wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache (advanced > wipe dalvik) and then reflash the rom. No need to WIPE data.
Well do u have mobile connection turned on? if I have it off I won't receive any mms
Sent from my Liberty using XDA App
I didn't turn it off... but I have received pictures from an iphone so I would assume that means its turned on. Getting ready to brswattt's recommendation to see if it fixes it.
Ok so I tried wiping the cache's and reflashing, still no dice... I even tried going in a resetting cache and data for the messaging apps. Its doing it both in the messaging app and hancent... any thoughts? Maybe a complete wipe?
I have the same problem. I can receive from iPhones and other phones, but not my wife's Aria. I had this problem since September, with every RC of CM6. I assumed it was a ID10T error, but now that I see otehrs with the same prob, maybe not!
Both myself and the wife have arias...both running cm 6.1.1 able to send and receive mms to each other

Can you speak in English?
Anyway, have you guys tried changing the "Customer User-Agent" setting under the settings menu inside the SMS app? It spoofs the phone in to something else.
Tried the user agent, great idea, but it didn't work. I tried several different user agents...
@seanfinn - I think the issue might be Cyanogenmod receiving from stock Aria, since the two people that I'm having problems with are on stock ROMs but they can receive them from me with no problem.
I have noticed that even other Androids are working fine so its just Aria's... I would normally say forget about it and move on but the two people that I message the most are these two Arias - seems like that is how it always happens.

I think you are correct. My wife has a stock Aria, and that is the only phone I have trouble receiving from.

[Q] Restoring Froyo Data on GB Messing with Phone?

Hey all.
So, I got GB working the other day, but realized that my phone couldn't receive any calls. It was only able to call out. This is all regular calling. Everything else was working perfectly fine.
My screen would black out with the exception of my notifications bar and I would see the phone logo at the top left hand corner. In addition, I get a force close vibrate afterwards. After all this, my phone just displays the call as a missed call. On the caller's end, it's just two rings then getting disconnected, no voicemail.
I'm thinking that this probably happened from advance restoring my ICBINB KD1 data on ICBINB KH1.
Theory #1: The phone.apk and dialertabactivity.apk on KD1 (in general) was probably incompatible with KH1.
Theory #2: The phone.apk and dialertabactivity.apk were incompatible, because the custom dialer from the theme does not work with KH1.
Theory #2 sounds the most reasonable, since the stock dialer for KD1 looks almost exactly the same. Please let me know what you guys think on this topic. I really wanna go back to GB, but I literally stayed up til 10 AM last night trying to fix this problem.

Was just wondering about this after I ODIN'd the leaked KG4 ROM. I don't know a lot about how Titanium Backup works, but would it be advisable to restore data from TB backups made on Froyo to a phone flashed with Gingerbread?
BTW, the XDA and RW communities are amazing with the devs that publish their hard work and are willing to put up with noobs like us. Thanks to all the devs and mods and other folks that are helping out here. This is my first post, so I wanted to say thanks.

I think regular files, such as games and everything, are fine. Everything worked well for me on GB except for receiving calls. Maybe one of our developers can shed some more light on this though.

Anyone figure this out? Is it really impossible to use a froyo backup? When I do everything works except for this missed call issue. So damn frustrating. I would just use Titanium but I sorta forgot to back it up so my nand is more recent. As always any help will be greatly appreciated.

you cannot it wont work u can restore app + data but not system files not dialers from frayo to gb that stuff does not work period...
Thanks raver
Should of been more clear. It's the stock dialer on kh2. I got kh2 ext4 all the way. I advance restore data only and bam missed calls. Phone rings twice screen goes black buttons light up after two seconds screen comes back with a missed call icon in status bar. Just drops on the other end does not go to voicemail. Factory reset phone receives calls fine. Got me stumped! That happening on you're GB audiophile build cause if not I'll switch right now. Was just waiting for it to come out of ALPHA.
Thanks
As RaverX3X and I have been saying, advance restoring Froyo data onto a GB ROM WILL cause your phone to be unable to receive calls!
Your only option atm seems to create a backup with Titanium on Froyo and restore once you're on GB. If you didn't do that, restore your most recent NAND and use Titanium to backup.
I've done that and everything is working perfectly fine for me now.

By restore once you're on froyo I hope you mean GB. So I used Titanium to restore a batch op of "Restore all apps with data" restored fine and you guessed it still bouncing the call.
What option did you use for restoring from titanium?
Thanks
are you restoring wifi calling?
I would use titanium only to restore non system apps and only data for system apps.

Sorry, I meant to say backing up all apps on Froyo and restoring once you're on GB. I'll edit that post. I used a batch backup of all user apps and a batch restore of all apps with data.
Did you do a completely clean flash again? Clean flash as in:
1) Odin to RaverX3X's KC1
2) Odin any GB Leak
3) Odin drhonk's KG4 Kernel
4) Flash GB ROM
5) Turn on ext4
6) Restore backups.
Just a note for those who didn't see other threads: this isn't the whole flashing process. I just kept it short for general purposes.
Sounds like we're doing the same thing but for some reason mine ain't working. Anyway just switched over to Audiophile FTW. Too tired to play with it now I'll try titanium again in the morn and we'll see if it works. On a side note Audiophile is FAST stock.
Ok so got it to work.
Instead of "Restore all apps with data" which forced me to have the missed call issue I "Restored missing apps with data" and everything is fine. Lost some wallpapers and settings in contacts but such is life.
You guys where right Froyo systems don't play nice with GB.
Thanks
You may be able to get away with restoring just the data for those system apps. Contacts, mms, etc. Just don't restore the app, only restore the data.

[Q] TweakStock TitaniumBackup not restoring data?

So I just installed TweakStock and I would comment on how awesome it is but I'm more concerned about the fact that Titanium won't restore the data for my Go SMS Pro/PowerAmp(so i lost all my texts and my music playlists). The weird thing is, it restored data for most apps but theres a select few that just wont restore. It's become very problematic and I'm hoping it's not just me.
I'm not familiar with Go SMS Pro, but if it's like ChompSMS and some other replacement apps, it still uses the phone's built in SMS database, and not its own. If so, SMS data is not backed up with app data. Chomp has a backup function of its own. Go may have something similar.

Did you back up all before flashing?
Sent from my SCH-I510 using xda premium
Yeh, I chose the option to back up all apps with modified data. If you check the date the last backup was made it says 12/25/11 so I'm sure everything was backed up correctly but it just doesn't want to restore the data :[
Try flashing a different rom and seeing if it does the same thing. If it does, it just didn't back up your data.

ill try that...
So I tried flashing TweakStock in Odin this time(originally did it with CWM, coming from Infinity) and it didnt work, my messages/playlists still wouldnt restore... So I flashed back to the original ROM i was on, EXT4 non-TSM Infinity and alas, to no avail. I tried 3 different versions of Titanium Backup, all 3 with and without Pro just to be sure(there were problems with Pro on Infinity), i tried restoring it manually and i tried batch restoring and of course i can't get my messages back. That's the biggest loss, I had thousands of text messages that are apparently gone forever. Makes me want to throw this phone at a wall :/ oh well

Did you make a CWM backup before you flashed Tweakstock? I suspect it may be too late for the text messages. You may want to try to install Go SMS on a blank ROM, send some texts, manually create a backup with Titanium, flash a blank ROM, and try to manually restore the backup to see if it is even possible using Titanium. My standard procedure to to create a backup in CWM before change ROMs. I use version 4.0.1.4. I know there are several apps that can back up texts. I suggest trying to use one to see if it is capable of backing up texts from Go SMS if you find that Titanium is not capable of backing up the texts.
Sorry to hear about the restore issues. There have been one or two instances reported where titanium backup didnt play nice when restoring certain apps data. At this point it seems as if it's a TiBu issue - I've even had problems with restoring app data on stock ep4d. If there is app data I'm interested in keeping, I've found more success with doing a CWM backup prior to flashing and then using the advanced restore > data feature.
I have Titanium Backup pro and am unable to restore apps. It scrolls across but does not actually install any of my apps. I have had the issue across 2 different Charges and 3 different roms.
Not sure what causes it, but the only way I have been able to resolve is by going back to the old manual install option that makes you confirm each APK before installing.

This ^^
When I first switched from froyo to gingerbread (I think I didn't switch until EP3H) thats what I had to do. The batch restore would sort of work on some apps, but it would often freeze up while doing so and require a restart to the process. I have become lazy since then and tend to cwm advanced restore data, especially if Im switching around on things using the same base build.
since when does TB back up text messages? I have never seen it
For whats it's worth I had no problems restoring all data with tweakstock and tb.
I've had no problems either. I had issues with EP3, and I had issues with Infinity, but not with stock EP4 or TweakStock

Not with the stock messaging app. It MAY back up if you use a 3rd party app if messages are saved as app data.
I had this problem several times (TiBu just breezing through the restore without actually restoring). Usually, I updated SU, then restarted my phone, then trying again. Maybe you could try flashing imoseyon's kernel, installing better busybox (Terminal -> su -> install_bb), etc and trying again. I always get it to work eventually.

I back up the Dialer Storage every time, and that takes care of my messages (both text and MMS). I haven't backed up (or noticed, for that matter) the Messaging item. I'll try backing that up as well and see what else it gets me.
One other thing I have used is a program called SMS Backup & Restore (from the market). This worked well, although it can't back up your MMS messages. If you're the kind that likes to see your call history as well, they also have a sister program that will back up your entire call log.
I would still prefer to have Titanium back up my messages, not just because of the added MMS backups, but because the backup and restore become part of your batch process.

It just wont open it really wont do anything. Every time i try and open the text messages the phone lags and a black box pops up and then immediately closes it. It doesnt even stay open long enough for me to read it. So what I ended up doing was doing a complete data wipe and re-flashing and reinstalling everything. I havent had an issue since I have done that. The only bad part was I lost all of my txt messages.
Sounds like it could have been a couple of things. The message database could have been corrupted. Also, the stock messaging app really doesn't like large SMS databases.
Maybe a bad download of the ROM depending on whether you installed it in CWM... Can't have a bad download with the Odin (or the update in Tweaktools), as it checks the integrity of the file.

I actually just had this problem last week. I was using the stock msg app but it also affected my phone function and any app that needed to connect to a data connection. All apps force closed.
Another note is that this was immediately after an hour long session of using wifi tether over 4g. I rebooted and after boot almost no apps responded and my phone heated up (I assume applications were looping in the background after failing to open running the processor at 100%) so i turned off and went into recovery. Factory reset did nothing, clearing cache did nothing and i couldn't try any other apps due to the phone crashing. Only solution i found was a complete reflash of Tweaked.
I fear this happening again in the future so i figured i'd post my similar experience.

[Q] Stuck SMS Messaging Notification Badge

The notification badge on my stock Messaging app icon is incorrectly showing 1 unread message.
I have a totally stock Droid RAZR MAXX HD running 4.4.2. My stock messaging app is version 4.4.2-10. SMS is set to "Messaging" (not "Hangouts"). All settings are default. Verizon Wireless is my service provider.
From my own troubleshooting, I have concluded that the problem is probably KitKat-related since stopping, disabling, and clearing (data, cache, and defaults) the stock messaging app has no effect. Also, this problem started after my OTA upgrade to KitKat (never had it before). Further, after completely disabling the stock messaging app, I alternatively installed GO SMS Pro, chomp SMS, and Verizon Messages and experienced the exact same problem with each.
Any ideas about how to fix this problem, without FDR'ing or rooting the phone, would be greatly appreciated.
clear dalvik?
you try clearing dalvik cache?
Great suggestion, but how do I perform it? Can you direct me to instructions on how to clear the Dalvik cache on a stock RAZR MAXX HD running KitKat? I can't find any that don't require a rooted phone. Thx much.

i never have stock recovery on, so i could be wrong, but i dont think you can do that in stock recovery.
which means you would have to put on a custom one and root, which i think you said you didnt want to do.
it is somewhat common to have random issues like this on a major software upgrade, especially one that jumped so many other builds.
i know you really dont want to do it, but clearing the corrupted data is really the best course of action, and it may be the only one honestly.
and if you are going to go that far, it is really best to just re-flash the phone encase something in the system is corrupt. just no point in going 1/2 way just to find out you still have the issue later.
sorry thats not the answer you were looking for, but sometimes it is not avoidable.

nice suggestion :good: i have never heard of that.

yeah dont think its possible on a phone that isnt rooted or has a custom recovery, whats the reason you dont want to to root?
Unfortunately, deleting all SMS and MMS messages did not solve the problem either, so I just FDR'ed the phone. Problem is gone on reboot of course, but so is 13 months worth of app configuration. I would root the phone this time except that the screen is also acting up on me and the phone still has 4 months left on the Costco warranty that I got (for free) with the phone. Wouldn't it be great if Android "L" allowed you to back up app settings along with apps without the need to root the phone first! Thx to all.

Follow-up: same problem occurred following FDR. It is related to MMS messaging and it is solved by removing all MMS messages from phone. I did not have this problem with JB. It showed up after OTA upgrade to KK. Too bad for those who like to keep their MMS messages.
