Hello there, good people of XDA!
I'm not really sure if this is best suited here or in "Off-topic", but since it is phone-related, I figured I'd give it a go here.
It's a short survey about how you use your smartphone, and any help would be greatly appreciated. It's completely anonymous, as all I ask for is your age and gender.
For anyone wondering, it's for an contextual analysis about people and their smartphone usage, and it will be used as reference for my exam in consumer sociology.

I've, shamelessly, added another more in-depth survey, where you have to type in quite a few of the answers. It shouldn't take more than 5 minutes to complete, and would be of great help for me. The first few questions are pretty similar, but the last few are, as I said, a bit more in-depth. There's no need to take them both, and you can chose for yourself which one you want to give a go. I'm happy either way.

I thought this was supposedly your exam?
Just took it. One problem though is that question 7 implies that everyone is in school, so I don't know how you will differentiate between people who use their phones in school who chose 1 and people who are not in school who chose 1 for that reason.

Yeah, I guess I could have done that part differently. Actually, this go for a few of the questions. But people can just chose "1", for the things that don't apply for them, and I'll take it into account when analyzing the answers.
I can only have 10 questions before i have to start paying for the service, so i had to make the survey a bit more compact than what would be optimal. I could have used Google docs or something else for the survey, but i feel surveymonkey is pretty easy to use when analyzing the answers compared to many other services.
Anyways, thanks for helping out guys! I still need more answers, so keep'em coming! :good:

That screen means that you have, somehow, graphics accelerator enabled on your device because none of our devices can display three colors at the same time!

You know I always want to be the first smarta$$, flame throwing, jerk. Jeez, you all are so inconsiderate. To think, I of all people have to be like eigth in line to give a good bashing....Some people.
All seriousness aside though... This has been covered at LEAST 30 times by me, AT LEAST... Considering I have over 253 Messenger contacts in my acct used for xda trouble shooting, maybe significantly higher than 30.
The people at XDA are pretty bright. We have some wonderful designers & developers that spend lot's of their free time making things easy to learn & find. We have wonderful moderators, well most of the (ahem tate, atw, ahem), so this is a very professional community of helpful people.
You are new. You are expected to take a little time getting familiar with the site, it's rules, the wiki & stickies. If you do this & then always use the search button before posting, you will find that there is no more helpful a forum anywhere. On the other hand, it is disrespectful to think that you should not have to read & become familiar with xda, just as the rest of us have.
On that note, I know you were panicked & you are new, so you just posted your first post out of a blind fear of having a bricked device. LOL, you think so slick??? This was the name I use for Kaiser, LOL. So as not to confuse my PM's when helping Joe Noobie, I have 3 names. I tend to help a lot of mor...ahh, new members, & I get confused easily & don't want to end up sending a Kaiser Rom or fix to a Hermes guy now do I? Anyway, I had One for Blue Angel, for Hermes & now one I have one never used till Kiaser. A few more weeks & maybe time for Touch Pro name.

Hello there for those who feel up to the task i am seeking for help preferably from someone that works on this website and i hope that by me making this request its not going get me in trouble of any kind. I am writing this with all the respect to the website administrators and members of the XDA-DEVELOPERS.
I am seeking some one that i could either send my phone to or could help me over the internet step by step on how to change things on my blackberry storm and my at&t fuse. I send it long time ago to a guy but for X or Y reason i haven’t heard back from him and I would really like to have this done. you may ask why don’t I do it my self well honestly i have try before but instead i just end up ruining 2 cell phones and they aren’t cheap and i am not rich. I go to school and have a full time job that takes a lot of my time, and i am not great with computers. I am not completely dumb but i do have a huge reading with problem because of an accident.
again I apologize if some how i manage to break any of the XDA-DEVELOPERS rules by making a request like this but i would really like to have this done.

i just send you the PM nir36 and thanks, but orb3000 but like i told you ive try to do the stuff my self or with out orientation and end up loosing two phones. yea the first one was un upgrade tru at&t for $200.00 and the second one had to pay full retail $520.00 at the time and broke that one so i am scared one because i am not rich and second because i don't know if i am just to stupid or what but for X or Y reason can seem to be able to do stuff that is easy to you guys and i give yall props for that yall are awesome. Hello all. I've been working with hi-tech systems for nearly 40 years but am lost when reading these posts on how to update my Kaiser to a better OS (ROM ??) with better speed and less useless 'baggage' programs. I understand the concept but the details as discussed here are just leaving me lost.
So, as I pay homage to you all who understand this I ask the following:
Is there anyone that would take my phone, update it for me, charge me some nominal fee (or accept a donation) and send it back to me? I would want it to be someone who is obviously a regular on this forum so I could have comfort that they are not scamming me.
As an alternative, is thier a posting somewhere here that is written for the tech savvy but 'phone tech' newbie.
I HAVE done many searches for information but I don't have enough info to limit the search paramaters to less than several hundred threads.
Thanx and great job to the regulars. I see alot of good sharing of info going on - I just can't understand it all.

It all depends on what your looking for too. So post back what you want and we can help you find it. It is a little overwhelming when you first get here. Took me awhile to figure it all out. But we are here to help You got Denco7s attention so you are in good hands But like i said let us know what you want. I can help you figure it out...and i know Denco will as well.
Oh, simply read some links in my sig's first line and you will start with the right footing. I have no tech background and have probably flashed at least 50 times in the last 8 months or so...
It's easy, it's fun and it burns calories too
There's plenty of Info info and guides on the wiki and in the stickies.
Just take some time to read theough them and things will start falling into place.

so im about to do it. been wanting a tablet for some time and as nice as the xoom looks for 1/2 the price this make sense.
can a newbie root? i dont know the first thing about programming. ive searched the forums, and i see roms, and all these things i dont even know what they are. TNT programs, which sound not so newb friendly lol....and i want to know if there is a basic root that i may be able to follow. root for dummies is what im looking for.
and also, if i screw this up can i revert back to the original way this thing was?
sorta nervous to order and not use it to the fullest potential but seems like without rooting its not worth a crap.
i know probably asked 100 times, but ive searched and just cant find basic rooting 101 concepts. read the faqs - nothing so straight forward that i found.

This was the post that helped me the most. Have you rooted and installed new ROMs on Android devices before? It's not difficult, but does require that every last instruction is read. Twice. And look at posts about people "bricking" their tablets to see what they might have done wrong, or what they had to do to fix their problems. Don't worry about rooting; I've rooted a MyTouch 3g, a TMobile Vibrant and this tablet and it was the easiest by far. I'd like to say that the stock software sucks, but I can't. I purchased this tablet because I knew I would be rooting and ROMing and only had about ten minutes in the store and ten minutes at home with the original software. It wasn't horrible, but I do know that Vegan 5.1 flies and is very stable.
READ READ READ and search your face off for your problems before posting. Many people frown on oft asked questions here. I see a lot of people writing about how easy it is to search to get your answer, but I'm not a fan of the XDA search function for many reasons. So, Google is your friend. When searching Google, be sure to state your issue clearly and concisely, and in as few words as possible. Oh, but do include "XDA" in your search, or "site:forum.xda-developers.com" if you want to only search the XDA Developers forum.

(1) We don't mind newbies, although it's nice if they actually respect the hard work of the people here by pressing the shift button to capitalize where appropriate. It would also be appreciated if they don't use run-on sentences.
(2) We highly recommend against modding for people like you. Just turn it on, update what viewsonic has for you, and everything will run just fine. We recommend you play with the gtab for a while before taking the plunge.
(3) You don't need to know programming to root. This thread will give you step by step instructions on how to do the essential things of modding. These instructions are so easy even a cave man could do it.
(4) That said, again, their stock rom + update should be good enough for someone like you. I have 2 gtabs. I've modded one and kept the other one as is. Trust me, it's more than sufficient for your needs.

I was referring to the part where he refuses to use the shift key. It's a pet peeve of mine. To me, it's a sign of respect to talk properly and write properly.
goodintentions - I was thanking adampdx but appreciate your input as well. I read his reply and his link provided and at first glance it seemed helpful. With that said, I also appreciate you letting me know the stock VS GT is pretty good and perhaps I will leave it as is when I get it. People make it out to be like this thing is so unsable out of the box, which apparently isnt the case. I just want to be able to get to the market and download a few apps I like using on my droid pro phone, thats all. Additionally I will use capitals and try watching the run on sentences. I was just excited to post and get involved.

I think your whole thing is condescending, including that rant you posted in the General section about the "wooters". If you wanted to be helpful you could do a write up and review about the stock ROM and make suggestions of what to do to make it better. This singling out of a group of people is rude and dangerous. You create an environment that is hostile and discourages fresh ideas. There are always kinder words to use and gentler ways to guide people.

Well, here is my thought on why people are giving it such bad reviews.
(1) They compared it to the ipad right out of the box. Yes, the stock UI isn't the greatest thing, but it's usable. And after the update, it should work just fine.
(2) People were expecting an ipad when they bought this device. This is why I've been repeating over and over that this ain't no ipad.
(3) People have money coming out of their ears, so they want the bests and greatests. The slightest disadvantage and they will make it sound like the tablet exploded or something.
(4) Which brings me to my next point. People like to exaggerate.
I've always been a simple person. I like to work with what I have. I also hate Apple products with a passion. I only own one Apple product. I got my ipod (30 gig one) as a gift years ago. I've been thinking for a while to look for something that is light weight so I could drag it along for work and other activities. My laptop seems like it weighs a ton some time. That said, after I've done the appropriate moddings and installed the apps I wanted, the viewsonic gtab seems like a dream come true for me. It works incredibly fast. I didn't buy this thing to watch videos and listen to music. I have my tv and ipod for that. That said, I really think viewsonic is sitting on top of a goldmine with this device. I don't know why they haven't done more to publicize it.

Oh, please, I can tell the difference between a non-engrish speaker and someone who's just lazy. I'm a non-native english speaker. In another thread, I mentioned that I was born in a house with a dirt floor and grew up with a 4 inch black and white tv. I wasn't kidding.

Well, I apologize if what I said offended some people. But what I stated was a fact. Because of all the exaggerated reviews of how god-aweful the stock UI and screen are, average people get the wrong idea. They feel that they have to mod the device the moment they get their hands on it.
All I'm suggesting people do is give the updated stock rom a chance. Give it a few days before they decide to take the plunge. There's really no prettier way to say it.

Ah, all of this being said, I do think this whole thing is funny and a giant waste of time. I've also been noticing that the forums seem sluggish, and I'm getting strange messages from the server from time to time about not being able to load forum pages. I think all of our babble is bogging down the servers. And with the impending onslaught of wooters, we should probably knock it off.
