[PROJECT] PORT 4.4 Kit Kat to GE S4 - Galaxy S 4 General

Hey Everyone with less than a week away from the Nexus 5 Release I wanted to open up a Developer discussion thread for porting 4.4 Kit Kat to our Google Edition Galaxy S IV. Its hard to tell when Google will start rolling out updates for all of their GE phones so why wait!
What we need. I am going to pre-order the Nexus 5 once it goes up but in the mean time if you Get one or you find a System Dump please post the links or your download page HERE in this thread. Since it is stock 4.4 I am assuming the bloatless image will be small enough to port over to our phone and then we can start working out the bugs from there.
Please post your HELPFUL thoughts pertaining to port discussion, ideas, challenges here.

4.4
I remember being pleasantly surprised at how quickly 4.3 came to GE edition after being released. As best I remember, it was just three or four days for Samsung to adapt to the kernel we use and release.
I'm guessing it will be about the same with 4.4 and we will get it within a few days of when older Nexus devices receive the update.
Of course all root users will do well to wait until yourself or SamuriHL offers prerooted image.
In any case, I'm excited that it is coming soon.

I remember this rule:
Developement Section is only for developement and no placeholders
and i don't know how "big changes" there are on Nexus devices around but when its out there will be someone who will port it

Moved here, since this does not belong in the Development Sections....Thank You.

Porting it would be terrible.. I manage a 4.3.1 AOSP source that builds completely for i9505 without any problems. so I just upgrade to 4.4 and there we have kitkat. from source. source will release tuesday if the interwebs is correct
screw porting if you can compile from source

I also remember a rule about other members ( LastStandingDroid ) coming in and flaming or trolling other peoples threads! Maybe you did not notice this is a project post like our other Touchwiz coming soon thread bud or others that morphed into what WE the I9505G community has today....and no need to Quote OP's either.
Sorry I posted in our I9505G A&D section mahalo for looking out otherwise.
------------------------------------------------------------------
To answer Broodplank1337 yes a from source build would be the BEST I agree but in the interests of time ( mainly mine ) I might jump on a port first but we would love to have anything your working on 4.4 posted here

Ok cool. let me know if you get it to work you would be the first on the world if you do it quickly. On Oct. 15 (Tuesday) the sources will be released :silly:

But there's a leak already! Check it: https://twitter.com/shen_ye/status/387318434448437248
I assume he'll release it after 4.4 starts rolling...

i dont think there's any need for a port considering how fast the GE will get 4.4, problably a week or two after release

I don't consider this as trolling. It's just a rule. And before your port is completely bug free the most of us are using ge 4.4 for days without any problem. So a nexus port is a little bit... What shall I say... Pointless

This thread was for the I9505G not your I9505 and you missed my point all together not suprising. As far as 4.4 for the I9505G as an Official OTA I doubt it will come anytime soon. Since this thread moved in the wrong direction I am moving in another. Enjoy the conversation.

We (i9505G users) received 4.3 exactly 8 days after the Nexus 4 rollout, and the 66Y update was roughly 2 weeks. What makes you think that i9505G users won't get their update "anytime soon"?
Also, the reason why your thread got moved is because the development section is for honest development, not for someone to place a useless placeholder thread for the sole sake of having their name displayed as the OP. The whole point of developing software for a device is to make something that doesn't otherwise exist for that device. Google/Samsung should have a stable/final release of 4.4 within mere weeks of the Nexus rollout, so there is literally no point in us doing all of that porting work when it's being done for us. Instead, we'll be using that as a base to provide mods/enhancements/etc.

Jelly Bean 4.1 Download (Not usable for flashing, can devs look inside for clues?)

http://android.clients.google.com/p....signed-takju-JRN84D-from-IMM30D.5a07884d.zip
SO there is the link ^ for jelly bean, but it only works for "takju" devices that Google gave out at I/O, so this update is for the GSM Nexuses that were given to developers. I was wondering if any developer can use this and mod it for possible use and flashing with our One X's? Just wondering. Correct me if I'm wrong.
I think we need source code before we do any major porting. Correct me if im wrong

I had issues with force closes and reboots after using their OTA Update to Jelly Bean from ICS.
I did a data reset and full wipe and installed JB from scratch, lost root however it is super stable now.

since when was an issue with jellybean or aokp NOT a development discussion i would hardly ask the question in tf300t accesories now would i? So instead of been unhelpfull why dont you go indulge yourself in the forum rules you clearly havnt read them so maybe you should read section 2.1 2.3 and 2.5 of the forum rules i can outline them to you as follows
2.1 Language: XDA is a worldwide community. As a result what is ‘ok’ to say in your part of the world may not be ok in someone else’s part of the world. Please think about who is reading what you write. Keep in mind that what you think of as acceptable use of language may not be acceptable to others. Conversely, while reading member posts, remember that word you find offensive may not be to the writer. Tolerance is a two way street.
2.3 Flaming: XDA was founded as a group of people sharing information about certain mobile phones. Sharing does not involve virtual yelling (flaming) it does involve working together to solve problems in an environment of mutual respect and understanding. Losing your temper and flaming another member, or group of members, is not acceptable behavior.
2.5 Courtesy towards other Members: Treat new members the way you would like to have been treated when you were a new member. When dealing with any member, provide them with guidance, advice and instruction when you can and always with respect and courtesy. Never post in a demanding, argumentative, disrespectful or self-righteous manner.

I have absolutely no freezes on jb my tablet flies literally. you need to have patients read the forum and take things step by step before you complain. Jb isn't the problem . You just need to learn trial and error till you get things going right.

well its a question about downgrading back to ics so i can use aokp type roms if thats not a development discussion regarding using a custom rom which does seem to pretty frequent in this forum but hey maybe its just an illusion but there is no need for rudeness and swearin from a fellow forum member a polite "this is not the correct forum would of sufficed"

Development pertains to roms, not ota and downgrading.
But you're not alone... Most people I know hate the jb ota... Glad I didn't take it and stuck with cm10 instead.

You can. You have to flash the ics blob with the pc tool... That will remove the jb rom and bootloader.

You are mistaken. The only way to revert the bootloader back to ICS is with nvflash, and that does not and will never work with the JB bootloader unless Asus or nVidia release it (which they are not going to).
Check out this post in the official CM10 thread.
I've not had one issue with JB OTA, but my Tf300 was updated straight out the box, nothing at all installed on it.
Its now 2 weeks old and I've now unlocked the bootloader and rooted it, install about 50 apps and its still buttery smooth, with no freezes or reboots.

It seems a factory reset (if your device is old) should help things significantly from what I've read.

Building Beanstalk 4.2.2?

I have zero experience building roms but i have recently switched from an Infuse 4G running the Beanstalk rom from scott.hart.bti. The rom has amazing customizations and too many features to list. It is based on CM10.1. I was hoping maybe somebody could help me port it over to the skyrocket. The beanstalk thread does have instructions for porting to other devices but having zero experience in doing so i thought i should ask for some help and see what other people are willing to do on this as well. The thread is here ->http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2091900

I did read through that i just wasn't sure if i should post this here or in that thread. I was sort of hoping that somebody who knows how to do this stuff might try to build it as i cant even attempt to start for about a month as i am in the process of moving across the country. Figured if maybe people saw how many options there are in this rom it might spark some interest and get some more variety of roms to choose from (not that the roms available aren't already awesome )

I did notice, I just didn't think you'd appreciate someone else doing your job for you.
Lets keep on topic here ... if the mods want to move this, that's up to them.
And speaking of on topic, build is just about done. Had to restart it twice for a couple minor things that I messed up with the device specific inclusions. The vast majority of packages built just fine though, so it should be too much longer.
I also elected to build it with the Marla kernel, not the stock CM10.1 kernel.

[Q] ParanoidAndroid 3.50 Port for d2vzw

Hi I was wondering if anyone could port PA 3.50 from the Verizon Galaxy Nexus to our phone, or help me in porting it. I have it booting but I can't get pass the boot screen. Any help please?
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2
There is no need to port a ROM that already has support for this phone. Version 3.50 will be made available by the developers for the Galaxy S 3 in due time. FYI it is not a smart thing to flash a ROM that isn't for your device. Lastly the most recent version for this phone is 3.15 and was added just 3 days ago.
cant help with porting, but notta already said hed take care of us once its ready if you missed it.
chat heads looks to be a similar app you can try in the meantime? either way good luck.
Yeah i just wanted it for personal use, i seen notta say that but who knows when PA will make the build public.... 1-4 weeks no one knows.
