Ok so I was told by a Sony store employee that the Z4 might have wireless charging and most likely it is Qi based. I have had a lot of experience with wireless charging with the N6 for which I bought a Tylt Vu since I was told it was the fastest but alas it's much much slower than the stock charger and also slower to a cheap Nokia stock charger belonging to some dumb phone.
I prefer the magnetic dock system it charges my Sony faster than the wireless system of the N6 it would truly be a step back if Sony only included Qi and deleted the magnetic system from the next flagship. Don't get me wrong the Tylt Vu is a very capable dock but when compared to the likes of Sony DK docks it's not half as grippy neither does it charge as fast.
What do you all think ?
I like the convenience of wireless charging that my nexus 5 had, It's something I miss on the z3. Not really a fan of the magnetic charging

Out of interest, how can anyone have a problem with magnetic charging? The usb socket is a weak point on many devices; often they're glued or soldered onto the boards with no regard for longevity - indeed, it wouldn't surprise me if they are deliberate weakpoints, exempt from warranty ("you must have broken it") etc. Magnetic connectors solve all that. Sure, add QI to magnetic (and usb, for data transfer if you can't use wifi for some reason) but I see no downsides to providing magnetic.

I agree that the USB port is the weak spot on a device, and will you bring up some good points I don't want to have both of them on my device I'd rather have one or the other but USB charging is more mainstream than the magnetic charging. I've only had my z3 for a few days and haven't gotten around to using the magnetic charging. Waitimg for the adpter in the mail.
Slow charging, for example overnight: Qi for comfort reasons, not cable attached and charging time doesn't matter
Very fast charging, for example "i got 5%, have to get out in 30minutes and got to make it through the day!": USB due to fastest charging times
Casual charging, for example "let's plug it in in the afternoon, my Z3 will make it through the night without any losses and through the next day": Magnetic charging
I don't want to wear out the USB port flap, so i bought the magnetic charging cable even before the Z3 arrived. I guess it will do in everyday usage, i'll have a look on the charging rates. If they're too slow for "power charging", i'll switch to USB.
However, a few months ago i only charged my phone over night. I would have loved to have Qi charging back then, so much better than to find out how to plug in the USB cable in complete darkness.

Some people claim the magnetic charging is faster than usb. I wouldn't know - i've only used usb to charge it once, and I was playing around with stamina mode at the time (for some reason stamina mode really slows down charging).
I wish this phone supported wireless charging! I charge with the Sony DK magnetic dock and it works well but can get a little finicky to get seated properly but I still prefer it to fiddling with those micro-USB connectors. I charge overnight 90% of the time and so even if wireless charging is slower that's fine with me. I'm ok having to plug in if I need a quicker charge when I forget to charge the night before, although with the Z3 that's not as big a deal because it's not too tough to stretch two days out of a charge with moderate use (on a bit of a limp towards the end of the second day).
This phone would be pretty close to perfect for me if it had wireless charging, a removable battery, and no ultra-slippery glass back (I really don't like the glass back!!).
I just slide the phone into the correct position no need to put in in a specific way. I have fixed the dock with double side tape all I need to find in the dark is the groove in the dock and slide the phone in place. As far as overnight charging is concerned I use the dock overnight without any problems. For the Nexus 6 the tylt vu dock its not a stable combo I mean it's really not sturdy any sort of vibration causes the Nexus 6 to detach so it's not the dock for overnight recharge.
I use qi chargers on samsung's phones and magnetic on Z ultra. Qi charger is very convenient and beside slow charging and heat disipation there is no minuses ( I have qi car charger from nokia and works well with all phones), magnetic charger is faster BUT you are still connected to a cable and the weak magnet is making the solution unusable in car. A COMBINATION OF THEM WILL BE THE PERFECT SOLUTION
P.S. Sony make some great accesories...why the h__l they did not made a magneting car dock I don't understand...
P.S.2 qi charger for moto 360 works like a charm....the best solution of all regarding smartwatch charging
I'm not new to the insert and qi charging station, I've had it on my s4 for almost a year.
I've been using the same Nokia dt900 charger for the s4 and now my note4.
I know there is a little issue getting the phone to charge, seems it's picky on position but I was normally able to find it on 1-3 tries(under 1 minute). But with the note it's been more like 10-15 tries (2-3minutes). And sometimes it would stop charging overnight.
Anyone have this issue? I'm trying to figure out maybe I have a bad insert or maybe the Nokia charger has too small of a coil, I would to try a charger with a larger coil (not larger overall surface). you can see the coil imprint of the insert, I can asume the circle in the center of the charger is about the same size. I've been lining them up this way but it's so annoying. I'm just ready to call it quits.

I have the TYLT charger and i had the same issue. I ended up finding out the phone liked to be slightly to the right of the charger for a good charge lock. I had heating up issues with my first insert (Nillkin) and ended up buying this
Haven't had any issues since.
That's the insert I have the qi-infinity.
get a 3 coil charger. the old 1 coil designs have this problem. with a 3 coil you just throw it on the charger.
Don't have any problems with first try
I made this base for my charging pad out of left over 1/4" thick acrylic. It has adjustable height, so it is easy to find best spot.
I think it makes a big difference which insert you use. My first one was VERY picky, but I got a different style (square with single inverted "L" contact at the top) and that is much better. The coil on that one is slightly off centre, and so the phone needs to be offset to the right a little for best results.
I'm going to try the official QI case mod - the Samsung coil looks bigger, and definitely central.
I do have issues with that as well. This is why I recommend just plugging the darned thing it. Takes less than 3 seconds, and it works EVERY TIME Without fail.
I am using the OEM S Charging View Kit for Samsung Galaxy Note 4 (Charing Pad + S-View Cover) & I have no issue at all.
It charge at any position even at uneven position.
[Review+Tips]Samsung S-View Wireless Charging Kit for Samsung
The insert type receiver I tried was very picky on placement. I switched to the OEM charging back and it is much more forgiving. With the Samsung mini charger pad I can just center the phone and it works every time. With the Tylt charger I found that placing the phone horizontally works every time while I could not get a reliable connection with the phone vertical.
I agree. I had no particular problems with my S4. However, with the Note 4 it tried my patience and was no longer convenient. It was easier and quicker to just plug it in. Also, I didn't like the heat generation. I've since stopped using the Qi charger and returned the receiver. I've gone back to my tried and true technique of having a spare battery available. Much quicker and I don't have to worry about how much battery life I have left for the day.
I have seen them for the S2, but the S2 has an flat edge as far as i can see where the microusb sits, when on the 10.5" the edge is angled.
This will eliminate wear and tear on the microusb port once fitted, and you can connect the charging cable to the tablet with your eye closed, just about anyway.
Has anybody see one, below is an link to the S2 version XDA page.

To charge my Tab S 8.4, I use one of those two-piece magnetic charging systems. In my case, I use the system sold as Wiskin and other names. You snugly insert a tiny adapter into the Tab S's micro USB port, then charge it with a special cable that works just like Apple's original magnetic charger. It works great. I have five of these cables: office, kitchen, car, bathroom, and beltpouch. The system claims to charge as fast as 2.4 amps, but I suspect my Aukey 2.4A smart AC adapters are throttling that because I've never seen a charge rate beyond 1500 mA, even when the Tab S's screen brightness is set at 1 percent and the tablet is idle, drawing 300 to 400 mA.
I also use one of the adapter inserts in my Sony Smartwatch 3. I plan to use a third in my VicTsing bluetooth headset when the headset arrives.
Having ruined two Sony phablets by physically inserting and removing standard cables, I absolutely love these magnetic chargers.
The charging cables are available in different LED colors. The first cable I bought uses a blinding white LED, even when it's not connected to any device. I keep it in the bathroom, where it doubles as a night light! The second adapter uses a soothing green LED; prettier and more soothing than white, but it, too, illuminates even when not connected, giving you no way to confirm with a glance that your Tab S is charging. The third through fifth use a soothing red LED that's normally dark but illuminates when charging. That's more like it. The red ones were claimed to turn green when the device is fully charged, but mine don't. Oh, well. I've also seen, I think, blue LEDs, or green-changing-blue, or red changing to blue. Check Amazon and eBay.

oh.. this is nice features... i wonder if i can find it in my place...
Just received my magnetic adaptor and cable, as can be seen from the photo in the previous post you get 1 cable and 2 microusb adaptors, It take quite a bit of force to insert the adaptor into the micro usb on my 10.5" but this is so it does not come out easily, it does come with a tool to remove the adaptor.
I have the "Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 Inch Unicorn Beetle Pro Full-Body Protective Case" on my 10.5" and the magnetic cable works fine with it, there is just enough space, and the port cover almost totally closes, good enough for me, all seems fine on day 1
My 10.5" seems to charge at full speed with this cable, the cable end has an charging led on it, I dont know if this goes off as i rarely charge my tab to 100% to preserve the battery.

And me
Hi I bought 2 keyboard folio from eBay brand new but it is like it haves a faulty battery. When I try to pair it with the tablet through NFC I press yes on the "do you want to pair the Nexus keyboard" but after some seconds it fails. But when I put the keyboard to charge it works. After I pair the devices and use the keyboard when I unplug it it stops working straight away. So I was wondering if this happened to anyone else and if it is any key combinations to hard reset the keyboard or something like that?
More people having the same issue!!!!!!!!

Has anyone found a way to replace the battery or fix the charging issue, battery not charging?
Has anyone tried using a portable external battery charger to power the keyboard, how long does it last?
Until you unplug the external battery.

I opened the keyboard and the battery seems to be dead because I tried to charge it with another charger and nothing was happening. On the keyboard I put another battery 400mah but still wasn't charging so I thing the board is faulty too. I will take a picture of the battery and upload it because I tried to find one but I couldn't.

Please upload any pictures you can, would be really helpful.
I was considering buying a simple small portable battery charger 1500-2200-4000~ and using it, but it would discharge too quickly, attempting to charge the faulty one in the folio. Also considered taking the folio battery/charging component and splicing in portable battery charger..
Another option I thought of, is using a male to male micro usb cable from the Nexus 9 to the folio.
I am using a generic micro usb charger works fine. I also bought a male to male micro usb cable attached to the Nexus 9 and folio, also works great. The keyboard hardly registers drawing any power.
Sorry for the late reply. That's the original battery of the keyboard which i tried to find but couldn't. The hard part is that it needs to be 1.5mm to 2mm of thickness Max so the keyboard top part can close normally. The other pictures is the modification I made replacing the battery but with a thicker one. It wasn't charging so that's why I came to the conclusion that it must be the board too that it is faulty. I connect the - and + cables from the charger to the exposed cables to charge the battery and that's it.

That's a lot of hardware. So the battery may be good and its the charger that's faulty. Thanks for the images!

Hey... Just bought a brand new one with the same issue straight out of the box.
Have you tried measuring the original battery with a multimeter?
The battery protection circuits will sometimes protect the battery from undervoltage by not letting them charge any more as it potentially damages them...
One way to attempt to recover the batteries is to remove the protection PCB and charge them with a LiPo charger at super low amps till they get up to like 3.3v then letting the original charger and battery protection finish charging it... (Kinda dangerous if battery really is damaged)
These things sat on shelves for years.... I can't imagine the batteries didn't drain.
Edit: did you take the keyboard apart??? Lol... Is it glued together??
I took mine apart... This is not a reversible process lol... Checked battery voltage and sure enough... 0 volts.... There's no Li-Ion charger that will ever try to charge that battery as there is a risk of fire.
Looks like HTC cheaped out on the battery protection circuit and it didn't cut off the battery below 3.3v and let it get to 0v... Gonna have to try to recover the battery using my lab power supply to trickle charge it... My lipo charger complains and won't charge it at all.
I'm having the same problem. Just bought one of these on Amazon for $30 and was excited to use it. How did they charge $130 for this when it came out?? This is useless. I'm going to have to return this junk. Any solutions before I do?
The solution is easy.
I have effected this repair on multiples of the nexus 9 folio keyboard.
Someone said earlier that the charging circuit is bad in addition to the cell being at 0v. This is simply not true. For the charging circuit and the cell to both be bad you will have likely hit the lottery in a bad way, or shorted and caused damage yourself.
Truth is that as mentioned before their protection circuit on their $130 keyboard was not up to the task. I make the assumption also that they overpriced these so heavily they sat until their hardware choices became apparent by making them DOA after the cell's voltage fell too low.
Someone stated that opening the keyboard is irreversible, this is also untrue, it only requires a bit of skill and patience.
Take it for what it is, because I would never recommend someone to revive a cell that had been sitting below 3.2v, it's just unsafe, but this is what worked for me as I didn't feel like digging through china stock to find a matching cell.
The cell is at 0v, so the fix is simple, connect another similar chemistry (3.2v-4.2v) cell in parallel (between the protection circuit and the cell.) I just used and 18650 from a laptop battery. Let's call this a "jump start." Start the charging and disconnect the second cell. Red charge LED should remain solid and charge cell 1 to 4.2v and you are good to go.
As far as the details, we know that the cell is on the left side, so only heat and slice adhesive from just beyond the corner to the center, slide your tool under the cell to remove the adhesion from the main body and carefully slip the cell out far enough to get at the contacts in order to get between the protection circuit and the cell.
main points
1 DO NOT PUNCTURE THE CELL (ALUMINUM TEARS EASILY)
2 DO NOT DAMAGE THE RED AND BLACK LEADS FROM THE PROTECTION CIRCUIT TO THE MAIN BOARD
3 DO NOT PRY OPEN THE OUTSIDE CORNER NEXT TO THE CELL AS THIS CORNER IS MORE SUSCEPTIBLE TO DEFORMATION THAN OTHER AREAS
Probably best left to a skilled tech, but it can certainly be done.
The adhesive htc uses is much like hot glue, so after scraping the old glue out reseal and press with a hot glue gun (precision tip recommended,) easy peasy.
On a final note, shame on you htc (and google.)

Just want to make sure that the wires are in the correct place.
The folio battery has a USB jack at one end and a switch (on/off perhaps) and a blue light at the other. What's happening when the blue light blinks?

I ordered another on off ebay, but i used the suggestion i thiunk i saw on here. I have a microusb OTG plugged into the nexus 9 and running a usb to the keyboard. it is supplying enough power to run he keyboard. also it does not seem top drain much power at all.
I'm typing this message on the folio keyboard. if the other keyboard folio has the same issue then i can at lease use this solution to use the folio.
now i need to order a shorter usb to microusb cord so i dont have to rubber band the cord and look sloppy when carrying it around
Thanks for that. But what about the blinking blue light?

That is paring mode if in not mistaken.
Nah, it's definitely a charging light. Doesn't blink when pairing but does when a USB charging lead is plugged in. Goes off after a couple of minutes, which confirms what we all know: the keyboard doesn't/won't charge.
Picked up one of these new from Ebay. It doesn't seem to want to charge and will only work when plugged in with charger. Anyway to get it working? Guess it's a return
I previously had a magnet attachment on my Google 6p case that attached to a vent mounted magnet. Now I need a completely different charger and I'm a bit lost. I looked at the iOttie charger on Amazon but I'd like some feedback before I jump in and order it.
I just got that iOttie, it works. Little fidgety on placement (I have a kickstand case). Also, will keep a slow charge.
Update. I gave up on it, even with no case you need to be a sniper to find the charging point. Without a case on, the metal tab for magentic mount won't stick to the p4 glass back
I have this one. Love it. It's fallen off twice in the last two years. Just have to clean the adhesive cup and where it goes and no problem.

Thank you but this doesn't appear to have wireless charging.
I have been using this for most of the past year on my Note 8.
https://www.scosche.com/magicmounttm-pro-charge
Has been able to keep up with running Nav and Spotify over bluetooth during daylight with screen on without issue. Sadly, Nav and the Uber or Lyft driver app during the day drop the charging to just holding it's own, thise apps are really power hungry it seems.
Never had an issue with the phone falling off other than SEVERE train tracks once.
I will update this once I get a chance to try it with my new Pixel, hopefully my case will be in tomorrow.
I've thought about going the wireless charging route but AA only weekend when plugged in.

I have been using Iotti Wireless Charger for a long time and never had any issues with it. I do use a case, but honestly, my case is somewhat minimal. (Ringke Crystal Fusion) it offers great protection, but doesn't get in the way of the wireless charger at all.
for what it's worth, I have tried other Wireless Charging Car Phone Holders - and honestly I hate the ones that have the electronic opening and closing to hold the phone. It's kind of cool - but totally impractical. The Ignition has to be on in order to open or close it - = just accidentally brush it and the phone falls out of the holder - I thought I would like it - ordered and then quickly returned for a refund because it just wasn't as reliable as the IOTTI I use.
The iOttie Easy One Touch model HLCRIO143 is their only model compatible with Pixel fast charging (same one the Google store sells). It works just as fast as the Google standing charger and even has "Made for Pixel" on the box. My only issue is it makes my phone overheat by about 10 degrees more than the plug in fast charger. My three Pixel stands stay cool. When it overheats the phone will either not charge or charge very slowly at most. It's going back to Best Buy and I'll continue searching for another one.

Just putting it out there but if you're using GPS and music while driving and charging, that might be the reason it's getting hotter compared to with the Pixel Stand. For me in the Florida sun and heat, I use a CD slot mount and point one of the AC vents at my wired charging phone.

I can confirm this charges rapidly (13.2w). Heat is not an issue for me.

I bought this one and it works great. According to ampere it's charging faster than my Pixel stand. It's also USB type C.
Edit: you will need a suitable power adapter to get the full benefit. I had a QC 3.0 car adapter lying around.

I use magnet mount. took a couple weeks to get it, but I love it. fast charging, never falls off. https://themagnetmount.com/collections/products/products/wireless-charging-mount
I bought this one first
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07SCLNV9B/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Typically drops to 20-25 on sale plus sometimes there will be a 3 dollar off coupon.
I paired it with my QC car charger and it consistently stays at 13.2 W of charging according to inware. It got hot and stopped charging the phone but I believe it's because i didn't have it aligned properly. The phone rest setting for 6.3" screen is not right for the pixel 4 XL. I had to bring it up but now it's aligned and not overheating. It charges fast.
The 2nd one i got for the wife's car is this one.

no matter what QC charger i use with it it only stays at 8.4 to 10w for charging and it's definitely not as fast as the one above but does charge the phone while i have gps running. I got it on sale for 15 bucks. There was a clip for 10 dollar off coupon at the time of purchase.
I may wait for the first one to go on sale again to replace my 2nd one and then regift the 2nd one to someone who has an iphone since it charges those phones quicker than my pixel.

I bought this, and my pixel 4 xl shows only 8.4 W with inware. I did use QC 3 charger. But still overall nice charger, has build in small battery, so can be opened/closed with car off. Which helps in not getting phone stuck once you turn off the car.

I'm using an Anker qc car charger if that helps and see 13.2 in the inware app. I'll try and get a picture of the car charger when I get a chance. It charges really fast. So much that at times I try my too use the charger all the time as sometimes on a drive home from work it'll go from 65% to 93%. I'm afraid it will wear down my battery. Luckily my car has a spot that I can just rest my phone. It covers up the display but not like I use the in car nav anymore.
