Looking to root - Transformer TF300T Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've rooted all of my phones since the OG Evo on sprint......but when it comes to this tablet I'm at a loss and not sure where to begin. I'm running the most current firmware. Please someone point me in the right direction. I do not have a computer anymore. I rooted my s3 without one so I'm assuming it's possible with the asus .

Sorry mate, I think you're out of luck. You need a pc to root the TF300T. You'll have to wait until you can get your hands on a pc... or if Chainfire starts developing for the TF300T. If Only.

[FYI] Rooting under Windows with debugfs only works with the USB 2 port

Hey guys,
Since I cannot post in the developer section where it belongs, I'll put it up here for people to see.
If you're trying to root your device with the debugfs method, don't use a USB 3 port. Windows 7 recognised the device, installed the drivers successfully, but I couldn't get past the "daemon started successfully" message in the debugfs tool. Changing the port to the USB 2 and Windows installed the drivers for adb. The rooting with version 1.9 was without problems from there one.
I thought this info might be useful to some of you

I used my USB 3.0 ports just fine.
Ok, good to know. I used a Asus Zenbook (UX31E) and couldn't get usb3 working, so I might not be the only one

I was gonna say, apart from the fact that ultrabooks are not even in this list, the arguments against it are not very sophisticated. But enough of that

I was thinking like you that you could put the inner zip on a memory card and it would pick it up that way but i haven't heard success using that method. Couldn't hurt to just try it. Won't break anything.

What exactly did you do? Try this
Download desire firmware from Asus website extract that archive into the root of your micro sd card. Insert sdcard into pad and wait a bit, if you don't get an update notification restart tablet with card still inside and wait for notification.
If that doesn't work got to settings about tablet and manually check for for ware update every hour until you get it.
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF300T using Tapatalk 2
dont forget the file you get from asus needs to extracted once then put that on the root of your memory mate
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF300T using Tapatalk 2
And if it doesn't work on your external sdcard try putting it in internal storage which is in /sdcard

many thanks! that did the trick for me
just got this TF300TG pad yesterday and my firmware is still dated April. I checked pad settings but said it's the latest. So I went to Asus website to see for any update and they have for 20-July 9.4.4.40 zip file
But then they didn't tell how to manually install it so I searched here instead and voila, I got the answer
Not thinking of unlocking this pad (at the moment) so official releases instead for the mean time
So internal and wait for it in android?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
yep just extract it once then move the new zip file to the root of device and reboot, the wait and in the notificatons it should pop up saying it has found an update, if that dont work put it on the root of the micro sd card
I did all that except the wait part lol

I had it extracted on my internal memory( /sdcard ). Shutdown, and on power-up it detected the update, as will be shown on the notification bar, I just then hit the message to update. Camera firmware has been upgraded as well.
Great, will try it when I get back to work...

Btw, make sure you downloaded your correct sku(TW-Taiwan on mine and its the one with 3g). I think there's US and WW(rest of the world) as well.

Not true.
I've rooted, while still having a locked bootloader.
If you're still on ICS can use 1-Click root v1.1 here
If you updated to JB, then not sure if you can root at the moment.

Just so there is no surprise, you will most likely start getting errors when it tries to push files to your device. It pushes to /data/local which no longer has write permissions for all users.
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF300T using xda app-developers app
It doesn't work for the reasons stated in this thread. Just errors and an offer to exit at the end.
I'm still hoping someone will try to downgrade using fastboot since the updated boot loader has the USB option. If we can downgrade, we can easily root.

I have looked around for a few days now but I can't seem to find a way to unlock and root after the JB update.

At present, if you are on jb and want root, you must unlock. There's a guide in the general section. Follow step 3 to get root, and recovery as a bonus.

Absolutely. I used twrp to flash it just because it worked better for me, but cwm will flash it too. Flash it, download supersu from the store, update the such binary automatically with it, and off you go with root.

Ok, I'm confused. I rooted before I took the update thinking I would continue to have root after....that isn't the case. So now I want to root again, Does this link help me with that? I don't think It will from what I am reading but again, I'm not sure.

Some people lost root after the update, especially those who did a factory wipe of data afterward, like me. This guide helps those with unlocked bootloader. At this time, you cannot root jb with a locked bootloader if you lost it during the upgrade.

PlayStation Mobile for Android

I figured some people might be interested in running the PlayStation Mobile Store on the tf700 so here it goes.
1. Download and install the Store apk from http://www.playstation.com/psm/store/en.html
2. Download and flash the zip file via twrp or clockworkmod for the certification files from http://beta.androidfilehost.com/?fid=9390113915771290047
3. Login to the store with your PSN account.
P.S. I did not create any of the files, just sharing the love.

The second link is not the certification zip. It looks like an old version of the apk. I used http://beta.androidfilehost.com/?fid=9390113915771290047 to obtain the flashable zip. Everything is running smoothly. I just got done playing some lemmings

one last question before I start flashing it... how about updating the app... I know sony is touchy about hacking in their services, so I don't know how long we can keep using the ps mobile app.
