[Q]Any way to resolve an unrooted tablet with a corrupted stock ROM? - Galaxy Note 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I had rooted and installed CM 10.2 to my tablet about two weeks ago. It was working fairly well but I decided I wanted to go back to my stock ROM. When I flashed the stock ROM the tablet caught in a boot loop after resetting, never getting past the Samsung screen. I can get into the stock recovery mode, but I have lost my root access. According to recovery mode the /efs has been corrupted. I cannot get into download mode, so Odin and Kies are of no use right now.
I can flash from my external sd card, but being a stock ROM without root it will not load accept anything that is not digitally signed. I've not been able to find a digitally signed ROM or recovery mode that would help, I even tried getting the ROM from Kies but to no avail. I can get command line access through my PC, but without root there is not much I can do with this.
So now I'm stuck with the worst of both worlds, a corrupted stock ROM with no root access.
Any ideas on how to resolve this?

If stuck in bootloop, have you tried factory reset in recovery?

Restore your backed up EFS folder .

Unfortunately seems my backups ups were lost in the corruption. I know I made one, but unable to find it now. Also don't see an option for restoring the EFS folder in the stock recovery mode.

No, and I'm not really sure how that works. But how can I get it to the the tablet without download mode?
I'm fairly certain I bricked it, but I'm just taking the off chance someone knows a way to pull a rabbit out of the hat on this.

I don't know if it works or not .... But if u can flash TWRP recovery this would help to solve

As long as you can get to the bootloader all isnt lost, you could use odin from there to reflash the images with the toolkit

What happens if you press vol- plus power? do you get the warning message? can you get into that mode?

Read this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2329139 and its comments where i helped a user with something close to what u have
Also when in recovery try adb reboot download ... And see if it reboots in download mode that would help alot

It just goes straight into recovery mode, no matter what I do. Never goes into or gives me the option to go into download mode.
I can get into adb and flash things that way, but if what I'm trying to flash isn't digitally signed it won't flash it because I lost root.

There has to be some sort of exploit to flash it anyway, or we wouldnt have root in the first place

I think i have a answer, since youre stuck in recovery and it does register in adb right? download the toolkit here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2341488
follow all instructions in the command prompt, choose your model and version of last installed software, if not listed choose 4.1.2
then choose option 3 to install a recovery image, i will reflash my device and make a recovery zip for you to flash in twrp and that should fix it or so i think.

Wait- why can't you get into Download Mode? (You've tried holding down "Power" and "Volume Down", I'm assuming?) Plus, you've mentioned "signed images"- which model do you have? (neither the N8000 nor N8013 require signed images, as they're factory unlocked).

Just so you know Volume Down is the one closest to the power button!!! and if you can get into download mode you could also flash a recovery from there and then install a rom.

I'm not sure exactly. Since something went wrong when I flashed my ROM I also lost my backup of the original Samsung ROM that came with the tablet. Not sure if that's a related problem or not. Due to not having a backup I downloaded a stock ROM from SamMobile and flashed that one. That's when I lost my ability to get into download mode and the CWM I was using.
It is a N8013. There is one wire leading from the battery labeled N8000, which caused some confusion to me, but it is a WiFi tablet, not 3G, and all other documentation says it's a N8013. Maybe Samsung uses similar internal parts.

[Q] stuck on fastboot

Hey,
I've been trying to root my TF300T (JB 4.1.1, JRO03C.US_epad-10.4.2.130-20120907) with no success.
I've downloaded the ASUS unlocking software and it went fine.
I've installed fastboot but when I boot into Recovey Mode the tablet simply gets stuck if I choose RCK or USB option (I haven't tried to wipe).
Nothing happend for a looong time. Then, I turn it off and when I turn it on again it starts (cold boot I guess OK)
It boots fine into JB and I can use it, but there's no way I can root it (through Recovery Mode).
I've tried DebugfsRoot_Generic_v2.3, but on every attempt I get the same error message: "access denied".
Since I'm stucked in that (and I`ve read many treads here with no success. None of the problems seemed like this).
I'd like to know if someone has had the same problem or have any idea of what might be happening. It's really weird.
Sorry if it seems too noob. I've rooted my Samsung GSII flawlessly but I'm having problems with this tablet.

[Q] bricked...kinda

long story short I unlocked bootloader, installed twrp, DID NOT backup (I know) gained su, tried to install cm10 and now I am in boot loop. tried relocking and re flashing stock ruu, that landed me in only booting into bootloader. re-unlocked and re flashed twrp back to boot loop. You haven't given the important information, please post your bootloader details.
PS. You're not even close to being bricked. A brick is only when you have absolutely no response from your device whatsoever.

s-off!!! After you ruu before reunlocking or anything are you still bootlooping? I have had that happen before, I fixed it once with a factory reset in bootloader. Make sure you only do factory reset in bootloader completely stock or you will corrupt sdcard. Running "fastboot erase cache" in fastboot after flashing custom recovery or even stock could help, i always run this command anytime i flash something in fastboot. When flashing a custom rom make sure to do full wipes, i always go to advcanced in wipe tab and select everything except sdcard.

very useful and easy to follow thanks for the link, however adb commands don't seem to be working as when I try any of them nothing happens. even adb devices just says list of devices attached and there is no list and no devices, adb shell does nothing etc. I tried a factory reset from bootloader and it just rebooted into twrp...when from feeling like a king when I finally got su on there to such a dumbass now, and the wife is enjoying telling me I should've have messed with it in the first place.
If you can get into twrp do it then mount your device to pc, copy a ROM of choice to filesystem, unmount phone, do a full wipe, then flash the ROM.

You need to slow down and do some research before trying all this stuff which you have no clue about. You're on a fast track to actually bricking your phone. All you need to do is install a ROM in recovery, reboot to bootloader, flash the boot.img from the ROM via fastboot and reboot into the ROM. That's all you needed to do from the very beginning because you're s-on. Unfortunately the people who were trying to help you didn't identify this and kinda sent you on a wild goose chase

The corrupted sd card wasn't until later in the thread. You don't need adb for that anyway, you format it through Windows. All he had to do originally was flash the boot.img via fastboot.

You should be able to just Google adb/fastboot. The traditional way is to download the Android SDK and get it from there but that's a huge download. I know there are sources which will supply you with just adb and fastboot but I can't remember where.

Your boot.img is most likely fine, you just need to restore your system partition. Did you make a backup of your device using your custom recovery? If so, then you need to restore using that backup. Otherwise, I can provide a link to either my TWRP backup (not CWM compatible), an RUU, or my deodexed Rom. Your choice. First, if you already have a backup made up, then apply it. Otherwise, let me know.

Just one question if i want to root it again without a system control app this time will i be able to use this exe file to restore it if it happens again. it took me a year before i tried it because the first time there was no roms and i bootlooped that HTC one SV and had to fork over $300.00 bucks for a new one but i figured that i would root it because of busybox.

Its an ruu, an ruu is about as legit as you are going to get when it comes to restoring your phone. So yes, it will work . If your phone bootlooped when you flashed twrp in the past then my guess is that you either used the wrong fastboot commands and wrote it to another partition by accident, or you used a TWRP that was not presumably built for your phone and thus used another TWRP designed for another device.

Again Thanks...Your a life saver if this works.I'll let you know when i'm done

If you are about to do something to your phone, make sure you know exactly what you are doing, why you are doing it, how it works, why it works, should I make a mistake what are my escape routes, and if all else fails - plan B. If none of these are set to mind then I recommend you do absolutely nothing to your phone until you actually understand its method.

In lamen terms, if you cannot stand in front of a class and teach them the concept behind the madness then you yourself probably shouldn't be dancing on thin ice either because you may sink and drown
Dont hesitate to ask a question on here before proceeding further if there is something you do not fully understand.

Hi, So i just bought this device and I've looked all over the internet to root my htc one sv on BOOST mobile. I unlocked the bootloader but then must have been following the wrong guide and flashed a wrong recovery or something. I can boot just not into recovery, it gets stuck "entering recovery". Does anyone know a recent and more updated way to root this device?! Thank you so much in advance!

Dude! Thank you so much! It worked!
So it's been a long time since ive had a rooted htc device, where can I start on the basics of what I can and cannot flash/ do to my specifi htc on sv on boost?

Failing to mount anywhere, please help.

Earlier I was trying to "S-OFF" my device so I can rewrite my "SuperCID" so I can update my Hboot to 2.15 and somewhere along that process i've managed to seriously screw my phone over.
Currently, my phone is unable to be mounted anywhere... My phone is without a ROM, so all i've got access to is the bootloader screen, and TWRP v2.7. And mounting my device in recovery mode then pushing a ROM file through "adb" does not work.
I have the AT&T EVITA dual core version of the phone.
I know this was completely stupid of me, and that i've might have made my phone into a pretty expensive paper weight. But any help at all would greatly appreciated. Thanks all.

No, fastboot is not recognizing my device. However when I emulate adb on my recovery it does recognize. And when i tried to push the ROM file into my /internal_sd it showed that it was unable to be mounted.
I'm not clear on what RUU dont want run that yet...
and my phone is still S-ON, nothings changed there.

Why do not you just connect phone normally and chose mount? Or be in recovery mode, let drivers install then mount that way?

I dont know if im explaining this clear at all.. sorry
Your best bet is to get to bootloader connect to PC and cmd window fastboot devices. See if PC recognized device or not. If it does reco the device, extract boot IMG from the ROM and flash it via fastboot
Sent from my One X using Tapatalk
Did you run a factory reset from the bootloader by any chance? That could be part of your problem. The other part of your problem is that TWRP 2.7 can have issues with mounting the sd card, so purely for the purpose of copying a ROM across you'd be best off installing TWRP 2.6. Of course that requires a working fastboot connection so you need to sort out your fastboot drivers. What OS are you running on your PC?
One thing I'll add here is do not run an RUU unless you're s-off.

Well, unfortunately now it looks like you really have bricked your phone. That recovery isn't for our device, we have the Evita so you should have downloaded from here:
http://goo.im/devs/OpenRecovery/Evita
It's too late now, but for future reference you need to be more careful. Flashing that recovery has screwed your partitions, I believe the only thing that will save your phone is if you pay for a jtag repair to be done. You should be able to request s-off at the same time too.
Just out of interest, why did you download from there? What lead you there?

You're incredibly lucky, usually flashing something that's not intended for your device ends in a brick. Download TWRP 2.6 from here. Put the file in your fastboot folder. Connect phone in fastboot mode, open command prompt from within fastboot folder, issue the following commands:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery "filename.img"
(the exact filename, minus the talking marks)
Code:
fastboot erase cache
Code:
fastboot reboot-bootloader
Now you can select recovery from your bootloader to enter TWRP. Use the mount menu to mount usb storage and then copy a ROM across.

You have to have the ICS boot loader and Boot Menu Manager in order to install and run CM11 or any other ROM that is Jelly Bean and up. Just update your firmware, root, install BMM the start flashing.
So I'm having some trouble.. Before I do this I need to fix something.. Heres whats going on every time I reboot I lose my imei number my carrier says unknown and i have the red circle with the line thru it. I hate to say it but it looks like you might have to flash a jelly bean STOCK(not custom) firmware, then start over from scratch, I think you are going to have to do it anyway because there are things in the stock jellybean that you're gonna need in place before you flash any kind of new ROM, it would also be easier that way than trying to fix your problem befire you start.

yes as long as it is a stock version of jelly bean for your device, doesnt matter the version as long as its for your exact model number
you won't be able to do it through recovery though, you'll have to have a oc to flash stock firmware to your device, you'll need to download your stock firmware (not custom roms), the usb drivers for your device, and whatever program is required to flash your stock firmware. no other way, then you'll have to root again and install a recovery then you can find and flash whatever custom roms are available for your device

there is a process that you can do through the terminal emulator app that you can make a backup of your imei and a method to restore it but you'll have to find how it is done for your device, do a google search for "HOW TO MAKE AN IMEI BACKUP FOR (your device model)" that should give you something.

Hello..!!
Do you've Atrix 2 mb865 ..?? if yes you can follow this step..
you need to download ICS/JB leak firmware for ur device AT&T/International version, then you need rsd lite to flash ur stock fw back to ur device via fasboot mode..
Root ur device again and then you need to install Boot Menu Manager from playstore . No Bootstrap anymore if you want to have KK rom on ur Atrix2..
Bootstrap only can be use if you're still on GB only..
Hope you got it my friend ...

Really...??
No.. you no need to backup your IMEI on this device.. But you must need to backup your CID .
You can do it via bmm recovery.. there was a option menu to do it when you're on recovery setting interface ...
Sorry if I'm wrong. ..

I told him I wasn't familiar with his device, I told him to flash a newer version of stock because it has parts he'll need if he flashes a newer custom ROM but he keeps wanting yo fix what he's running even though he's gonna have to flash over it anyway to get where he wants to be so I don't see wgat the problem is, flashing stock will get rid of his issue then flash up to whatever Rom he wants, I don't see why he doesn't just go ahead and do it now instead of doing what he's doing.
