NV Flash
its not the same. odin was a backup in case you couldnt even get into recovery, so there was download mode as a failsafe....which was through odin.. there has to be something like this available... anyone know.. or are we sol if we mess up bad
Im wondering this as well...my friend flashed a rom on the G2x and the wifi is broken. Rom manager won't flash into recovery. Used my Sim card which has internet but the phone won't recognize the internet. Tried the power+ volume buttons on boot up but nothing happens. Any idea on how to get back to stock? Rom is eagle's blood
You would need to flash CWM through NVflash
ROM manager will not flash CWM, it looks like it did but is actually a fake flash. That's why you need to do it through nv flash.

Yes. You flash back to stock with the KDZ file and the KD flasher program.

downloaded nvflash and drivers, have usb debug mode on but when i do anything on nvflash it says no usb connected?
nvm got everything done thanks a lot!
I believe that there's the program used to flash KDZ files, I guess that could restore EVERYTHING back to stock.

Koush and Cyanogen said ROM Manager is not doing a fake flash. After flashing the rom you have to immediately boot into recovery using rom manager. It them flashes the new recovery right after boot. The recovery partition is not available when the phone is in normal mode. If you don't do an immediate boot into recovery through ROM Manager then the recovery is not properly flashed. If you have updated to GB then the first time you must do the NVFlash method as there is no way to root the phone any other way at this time.

It is fake in the sense that no matter what you do it isn't on the actual recovery partition and if the phone goes to hell in a handbasket then you have to flash one through NVFLASH anyways. Koush just happens to have a vested interest in people using Rom Manager.
Yes, STAY THE HELL AWAY FROM ROM MANAGER. Seriously, you're just asking for trouble.
I use rom manager all the time. It works great for downloading and flashing roms on the fly... but just NVFlash first.
NVFlash takes like 3.5 seconds and your done. Nandroid backup and your good.
Then either download Rom manager or manually download and copy it to your SD card. Very very simple. Easiest phone ever to get going. You don't even need to worry about rooting first.
You'll gain root after flashing s custom rom. MIUI is my choice right now. CM7 is having problems after they merged the LG GB source.
MIUI 8.19 is found in the rom forums. Weapon is also nice but lacks some extras I'm used to.

Samsung vibrant help needed.

I flashed back to stock 2.1 on my samsung vibrant.
the phone boots up fine at first, then all of a sudden i get a wierd screen and the phone reboots automatically. i dont know what the problem is. can anyone please help me with this problem.
the phone is continuously rebooting for the past half and hour. and i have no idea what to do now.
PLEASE HELP ME WITH THIS.
im posting a photo of the "wierd" screen below. the quality is crappy, but i cant help it.
Were you coming from a GB rom? Be sure your not mixing bootloaders...Not sure what that is but if you flash just the stock kernel in ODIN, with the phone off (pull the battery)and using the button combo try and get into DOWNLOAD mode. you might recover it....or flash the Bali kernel and then try going back to stock again.

yes i did try flashing a 2.3 ROM,but it didnt work properly, so i tried flashing the stock 2.1 again using ODIN...it got installed, but later all these things started happening.
i even flashed the 512 PIT file that came along with the stock 2.1, but still no use.
can u please post the link to the kernel you are talking about and also how should i flash the kernel?
thanks for your reply.
hey the problem is solved. i installed eugene's 2.2 leaked build and my phone is back to normal now...!!!!
thanks for all your help. i really appreciate it...!!!
Glad to hear you got it...just be careful to know which bootloaders you are on, GB or FROYO... unless you have alot of problems with a ROM its not really necessary to ever flash back to stock...I flash rom to rom without any issue as long as you:
1. wipe cache partition,
2. then wipe dalvik cache and then
3. factory reset all from CWM...
4.then flash whatever .zip ROM you like.
Flashing back to stock FROYO/ECLAIR from GB with an odin rom you must be sure the stock rom either includes both PBL and SBL or no bootloaders at all and then your good.

Put your phone back into Download Mode; in Odin, select PDA and choose the ICS recovery file, infuseICSrecovery.tar, then hit start

If people can follow this they should not have rainbows at all. This is a very easy guide so there should not be any problems. I stay on lb3 based roms so this is what i would use if i needed to. Thanks for posting this for everyone. Hopefully there won't be to many with issues.

Heimdall would have been easier...you just downloadit, check flash boot loaders, click flash and wait till it finishes...
Still good guide

qkster's Heimdall one-click takes 4 hours for me to download (~15kB/s ); it was faster for me to do it through Odin. I'll add a method for Heimdall soon.
THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i was about to make this
was getting a littler annoyed with the same Qs over and over again lol
but you should include Heimdall as an option since its just one click and it has
the bootloader option
include this video in the bigenning too
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JmvCpR45LKA
lol but good guide nonetheless
1) You should make it clear that bootloaders should ONLY be flashed if the user experiences rainbows in recovery. Unnecessary bootloader flashes should be avoided.
2) You can flash just the bootloaders without flashing the whole damn UCLB3 release

Stuck in recovery boot loop. After flashing UCLB3 through odin it shows a few errors. Tried flashing twice so far with no luck.
Using entropy's file got me into cm9.
Heimdall one-click including UCLB3 bootloaders and jt1134's ICS recovery image:
http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?zc1btl2cg4f5wg2
I flashed it on top of my current ICS configuration and it still works fine. Any feedback from GB or Froyo users would be appreciated. You still have to flash the ICS system ROM and gapps over it.
Whats wrong with rogers bootloaders? Ive never had to flash bootloaders and ive never had rainbow issues.
I found a very nice video on Heimdall. I've never had to use Odin or Heimdall so I was hesitant, this makes it look a lot easier.

I did the ODIN one as per OP and it works like a charm. I now have CM9 on my Infuse!!!

Nothing at all. That's why I said that people should only flash BLs if they have rainbows in recovery.
In fact you guys are lucky - I believe you have Gingerbread bootloaders without the infamous flash counter. It sucks that dumped bootloaders never seemed to want to flash.
@threi: I was working under the assumption that AT&T GB bootloaders were preferred, since jt used the AT&T kernel to develop the ROM. It might actually be a better solution to use an older GB bootloader because you don't have the Download Mode flash counter and the downgrade process isn't as tricky (from what I hear). Either way, I changed the OP, thanks for the heads up
stuck
i have an infuse sghi997 and im trying to get cm9 working, so far i have flashed cm9 threw cwm, cm9 booted fine, back to cwm flash gapps, boot into recovery every time, try wipe data/cache restore backup, no good, flash with odin to 2.3.6 deodexed with red cwm voodoo lagfix and can restore backup fine, ok maybe i was on 2.2 bootloaders, but the 2.3.6 rom would bump me to gb bootloaders, so i try cm9 once agian, boots fine, flash gapps and loop agian, have to odin back, am i missing something?

ics recovery hard to read, gb bootloaders installed

I am still having trouble with the rainbow effect - hard to read recovery in ics. I have already flashed a couple of the fixes in odin, and installed stock GB got red recovery and re install ics. no help -recovery has only gotten harder to read. any suggestions?
U need to flash the boot loader, Flashing stock GB does not flash the boot loaders as they are removed from the stock packages to avoid hard bricks as flashing BL is always risky + once u flashed them u dont need to flash them again.
Search threads by jscott for Odin and heimdall by qkster.

I had flashed stock gb thru odin as well as trying the gb bootloader package and ics recovery fix with odin. None of it worked. following all directions. However I did just try another gb bootloader package with odin on PDA tab and this time checked the bootloaders box in odin. This worked very quickly. auto rebooted and saw that the boot animation now had a new pic. did not need to reflash rom. recovery is blue. thanks.
some one should update guide to show checking on bootloader in odin.
