[Q] Whatsapp won't install after (official) ICS update - HTC Desire S

Hello
I recently updated my girlfriend's Desire S to ICS ("official" htc rom 404).
(Please consider I'm aware of the "links" issue affecting Whatsapp I read about in other threads after some search).
Everything works pretty fine, except I'm not able to complete installation of Whatsapp. It downloads from Play Store and installs correctly, but at first launch it ALWAYS freezes after user data input after (or while...not sure) completing account message history retrieval and gets stuck and non responsive. Only solution is killing it through some task killer.
Also deleting all app data, uninstall and re-install by the Play Store takes to the same point.
Strange thing, cause all other apps seem to work fine.
(oh, well, except Sense Clock & Meteo widget that remains stuck to the location of first boot after ICS update, no way to make it understand its actual location! But well, that's a minor thing...lot of alternative clock & meteo widgets around...).

New gTab and questions

My wife surprised me last night and took me out to get my gTab a week early! I brought it home and charged it, played with the default installed for a bit, and as we all know...it was awful. I proceeded to install VEGAn b5.1.1, that went as smooth as one could want...15 minutes and I was chugging along on a MUCH better/faster interface. The issue I am seeing now is there are certain apps (not Angry Birds) that aren't showing in the Market. I can't seem to find ADW Launcher, Facebook or Launcher Pro. Any thoughts on this? I cleared the cache and user data when I did the install so I don' think there should be any lingering issues there.
Thanks
Scott
When they are talking about clearing the cache and data for the Market fix, they are talking about clearing it for that app and not the full cache/data wipe when installing the ROM.
Menu/Settings/Applications/Manage Applications and then select the All tab, scroll to find Google Services Framework and Market. You clear the data/cache of those and force stop them. Back out to the main home screen and try to access the Market again. It should error out....reboot the device and after it boots...just wait for a few minutes. Try the Market again...it should ask you to accept it's terms again and hopefully show you more apps then before.
It's just one of those things with having a device that isn't supported by Google and hacking the Market to work.
LauncherPro is one I've seen appear and disappear in the available apps on my Gtablet running VEGAn 5.1. Without real Google support, even tricks and hacks can only go so far.
Luckily for me, I have a Motorola Droid and use that to grab anything my tablet doesn't see and then push it to my Dropbox account and get it from there for my tablet.
Most things I can see with all the Market fixes, do-overs and what not. My test being LauncherPro....saw it once...then it never appeared again after many "fix" attempts. That particular app is also available from the developers site ( http://www.launcherpro.com/ ).
This (using Dropbox) really works well since my other tablet will not boot so once I nvflash boot it....it needs to stay on. Market fixes (requiring a reboot, etc..) aren't possible, so Dropbox has been awesome for that tablet.
Two things that may help
Bluetooth File Transfer might help.
I put this link up a few days ago because I had the same problem.

Also, This video really worked for me with getting full market (roughly 98.9% really) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7l-ny...eature=related

Tried this again and it did the trick! Thanks! (Must have missed something the first time I tried).

Google Text To Speech - Force Close

I keep getting a force close whenever I access certain Google applications of Google Text To Speech Engine. I recently installed Google Now (and it wasn't working well for me), so I used the uninstall script. It seemed to start after that. I even replaced the GoogleTTS.apk from a stock ROM thinking it may be screwed up. I froze it for now and that stopped the FC's (obviously). Any ideas?
The best way for me to get it to show up every time was in the Language options in the menu, selecting Text To Speech, and it would hang for a second after that and FC the Text To Speech Engine. Are there any other APKs associated with TTS that I can see about replacing?
Shameless bump.
Same Problem with my S3.
I have the same problem. I removed the Google Now with Google Now to Google Search from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=29756226. My Google search and me Google TTS both lock up and come back with Unfortunately ........ has stopped.
i have the same problem. i tried to copy the googletts.apk and the voicesearch.apk and replace to the /system/apk with root explorer but the same issue, FC
after one houre lost i an re-flashing the firmware...
the thing is that i am a nood and i did't nand backup before flashing the google now package :silly::silly::silly:
Google Now is hit and miss for me. I've used unofficial AOKP unofficial JB build 1 and several nightly builds of official CM10 nightly's Some times it talks sometime it doesn't. On AOKP the service would toss and error evertime about Google Play stopping but still work. Sure it will be worked out soon. Development is blazing along at breakneck speed with the SG3
I wanted to let you guys know I finally fixed this. You need a Titanium backup of Google TTS for 4.04. Go into Titanium and un install current version which should be 4.1....and restart. Then go back into titanium and restore the 4.04 version and you should be good. You must restart in between or it won't work.

[Q] TTS not installed?

I installed the pre-rooted stock kernel from k0nane. I don't know if it was working prior to this. Anyway, I noticed that Google navigation was not speaking street names, and thought it was the problem that a lot of users were having. But when I go to Settings...Voice Input and Output...Text-to-Speech I get a force close every time. Clearly TTS is not working in ANY app. How to fix?

Stock non-rooted and stock rooted are the same minus superuser.... but you can try to wipe davlik/cache.
Problem solved - 1) I'm an idiot and 2) Never use My Backup Pro to freeze apps (though it was nice to move stuff between phones). I had frozen some TTS-related stuff that I shouldn't have, and they wouldn't defrost despite repeated attempts. Will stick with Titanium from now on.
On a related note if you change the speech engine to the Samsung one and tell it to override app settings, you get some interesting results in google nav. It reads out a bunch of XML and then gives you the direction, a couple minutes late.

[Q] App installation Issues

I recently purchased a TF300T. From the factory reset, I am able to download and install new apps. After a few days of usage, I realized I could no longer install apps. I followed the instructions for Google Play regarding this issue, however nothing seemed to do the trick. I did a reset again this morning and I have not updated the suggested apps - gmail, google music, etc. But I have installed my collection of apps including the new ones. Could this issue be related to an update for gmail or another app? I can not remember when the issue arose or when I updated the app.
Even though this issue is a pain, it has given me a chance to learn more about the tablet as this is my first android tablet.
What was the error message when you couldn't install?

Lineage OS 18.1 on Xperia Z5 buggy on my device

Hello,
I have just installed tarkzim's Lineage OS 18.1 - the latest - version on my Z5 without Gapps. Unfortunately it turns out to be unusable because of a serious bug (at least on my phone it shows, and I have no better name for it than to call it a bug): launching the browser (indispensable on a smartphone) crashes the whole system and causes an immediate reboot.
I wonder if anyone else has encountered the same problem or if there is someone who has been able to fix this or has a workaround at least.
Otherwise I hope that the developer reads this here, too, and will look into the problem. For now my Xperia is bricked, but I will follow the development and forthcoming versions, of course, hoping for improvements.
I have another mobile - so I can live with that bricked one for a while ;-)
Hey,
I´ve got basically the same bug, but managed to play around a bit further. From what I could gather, the Phone crashes and reboots every time I open certain apps. I have Gapps istalled and notized two problems.
Crashes and reboot on startup of certain apps, like Chrome, pre istalled browser, Outlook, G-Mail, Mattermost or Amazon Shopping. Other apps seem to do fine. Firefox, k-9 Mail, Whatsapp, Telegram, Sotify work more or less without a problem.
Crashes and reboot on sign in. From the few that I tested, Vanced was the most interesting one because I could open and play Youtube Videos normally but it always crashed when I tried to log in. I could login through microg but since then my phone started to crash and reboot every few minutes. Uninstalling all vanced related apps did not solve the problem. Some apps crashed on sign in and since then werent able to get running again.
I really like the Lineage version, and I wouldn´t even mind finding the "working" apps using them (does´nt really matter to me if I use Chrome or Firefox) but certain apps I need to work like Mattermost.
I hope someone could help with our problem because I really want Lineage to work on the Z5. It feels so... clean and smooth.
Good to hear that someone else has similar issues with this LineageOS version - and regrettable, too, of course. Even without GApps it is unusable so far. But I really hope that this version is not the 'last word', and will continue improving. I know it is a big task for a programmer.
I have just seen that a new version is available. When I find the time, I will replace the version on my phone with the new one and report.
