I accidentally renamed sh file in system/bin/ to sh1, and then I rebooted my Galaxy Tap 2 7.0 P3113. Now I can't rename it to sh back.
And My device isn't rooted anymore. I don't know what should I do. I can't even connect WIFI.
Do you have a backup of the system partition?
Easier Way is to flash Stock with odin, If you don`t have a system backup
Wait! Use Aroma File Manager to rename it in recovery!
You know, it's a sad day when your cellular service is faster than your home broadband.

I cant go to recovery through Rom Manager for some reason. It works manualy( power+volume) but when I click it from the app it freezes, and shows an exclamation point triangle
have you tried to reinstall the app?
Wich CWM do you have?
thy the above post; if that doesn't work, go into recovery manually and fix permissions
that must be why
I was following this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PVyGw6vycFo
and it said I had to wipe my data which I did, and maybe CWM was removed?
Ill try to flash CWM and see what happens.
Worked! thanks
In wich way?
Have you reinstall Rom manager App or reflah CWM Recovery?
actually, theres been a trend going on here....
I went on recovery to check if its working after I flashed it and it worked, after turning it off and removing the usb out of my computer I tried again and it didnt work.
Any ideas why?
Edit: when I had ROM manager I already tried to Flash CWM there if you're wondering.
Rename /etc/install-recovery.sh to something else with your preferred file explorer with root capability. Now reflash cwm and it will stick. What you are seeing now is stock recovery.

where can I find /etc/install-recovery.sh and what do you mean by file explorer with root capability?
Root explorer, ES File Explorer or something of the sort. This will let you directly modify files on the /system partition. Just enable root functionality in the settings, allow root when the popup comes up and rename/delete the /system/etc/install-recovery.sh file (this is the correct path, /etc is a link to /system/etc - ignore the other one).
Directories work pretty much the same as windows except it doesn't use "drives" (ie, C:\, D:\, etc), everything is found within the root directory (which is /).

fairly new to android so I have no clue what you are talking about sorry... can you give me some steps on how to do that. again I apologize, Im still new
Download this from the market, i'm sure you'll figure it out
quick unrelated question: I tried to apply the ROM and it didnt continue, it said it was aborted or something
I tryed to do this one and failed had to send phone out for warranty. I got it back. I HATE I.C.S. Want it back to gingerbread. This time a little more better understanding but still a total NOOB. I dont wanna have to send the phone out again.
Here it is:
Nexsus S I9020A
Network Koodos
Unlocked
CWM v5.0.2.0
Android 4.0.4
Radio KJ1
Bootloader KL1
Build # 1MM769
I cant find a flash file for these specs. Also what is the most NOOB friendly way to flash. Anyone please. Im not rushing through it again. Wait pateintly for help. Thanks in advance.
Bruce
Download this file. It is Android v2.3.6 Gingerbread, build GRK39F. Specifically for the i9020a with the most recent Gingerbread version (2.3.7 wasn't released for any NS aside from the 4G i believe).
What you have to do is backup anything you need to. Apps, files, etc. Whatever is on the phone that you want to keep, back it up. Titanium Backup might help too. A good way to do this is to do a NANDROID in CWM (CWM --> backup and restore --> backup). Now backup your entire SDCard to your computer. Now we want to copy over that file you just downloaded to the SDCard.
In CWM, you want to wipe the main partitions to get a clean install. To do this, in CWM:
-Data/factory reset
-Format /system
-Format /boot
Now, immediately after this, click on Install Zip and locate the zip file you put on the SDCard. Let it do it's thing then reboot. Rebooting will take a little longer than usual the first time, but once it's up and running you're good to go
Thanks SO much. You couldn't of spoon fed me better. This site rocks.
All done worked great THANKS AGAIN. Woohoo mo more ICS
One last stupid question. So my phone is unlocked and cwm v5.0.2.0 is installed. To root it what do I do.
Good to hear you got it sorted
To root, just download the latest su binary. Easiest way is to use this official flashable zip (latest is 3.0.7 efghi, linked). Just copy it to your sdcard then flash it via CWM (install zip option).
By the way, i forgot to note that CWM will be replaced by stock recovery after a stock ROM flash. You'll have to use fastboot to flash CWM again, then you can flash superuser.zip. To stop stock recovery flashing each boot, using any file manager (e.g. ES File Explorer), rename /system/etc/install-recovery.sh to /system/etc/install-recovery.sh.bak. Next time you flash a recovery after doing this, it will stick.
I got es file explore. Im in it but cant find /system/etc/install-recovery.sh ??? Never Mind had to change a setting in es file explorer.
K I got superuser on there now. But a problem. When in ES file explorer i go to the file and add the .bak to it. But it tells me soory operation failed. Lol Sorry in ES just had to check to mout system. Im all Good Thanks for everythng. 2 Thumbs up
Tried efs pro not work
As i know cwm do not backup efs folder
Tried nitrality did not work
We need to backup efs folder just to be safe while flashing as it contains imei and serial number etc and if lost we will lose connection both wi fi and 3g and our tab will be like a big ipod touch even without wifi (only media no internet or connection at all)

This is what I did on my Galaxy S2 long ago. Use both the backups created by the different commands specified in clean and raw section
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1068193&highlight=efs+command
Disclaimer: I have never had to recover from this backup, so you might want to do your own research to make sure you got a good backup. The thread I link to might be a good starting point
AnDruid, I've backed up my SGS 1 's /efs folder using the "tar zcvf /sdcard/efs-backup.tar.gz /efs" command, once rooted, which had all the nv files etc all nicely backed up as explained @ http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1068193&highlight=efs+command
However, I never did the RAW section ... Never did need to revert back though .. or yet. Though I do not see myself ever going back from Jelly (Helly) Bean, only forward. An interesting "fix" I noticed once the SGS got a little "slow", was to boot into CWM and wipe the Dalvic cache and Cache partition.
Once the phone started up again, it did it's "reconfiguration" and once again worked like when I originally upgraded to Helly.
What I expect Mohamed is experiencing though, is the problem I currently have with my Galaxy TAB 2 P5100 which I've rooted as per http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1957165 then using Terminal Emulator by Jack Palevich (available from the market), the TAB 2 states that "tar" and "busybox" commands is not available ....
Since I simply can't "yum install tar" or "yum install busybox", I'm a little lost.
Which does raises the question : Mohammed, how did you get past this issue ? Did you backup your TAB 2's (P5100) /efs folder and if so, please advise how.
Though I could "zip" the /efs folder with ES File Explorer, the .zip file does not contain the nv files, which I believe defeats the idea of the backup.
Well, would you believe it's as simple as installing "busybox" from the Play Store ...
Then the "tar" command is available
If your tab is rooted you could use Es File Explorer to manually copy/paste the /efs folder into the /sdcard folder and then copy this onto your computer
I just installed jelly bean on my Samsun GS3 SCH-R530U, and now whenever I Odin CWM, it will boot only one time when I boot to it, after that I get a fallen over robot icon from samsung, and their old boot menu. This means I have to flash it every time I want to backup or restore a nandroid backup. Is there some way I can get past this? Do I need a newer CWM? Has Samsung found a way to disable CWM?
try this
as a nexus s owner got this issue in past, seems to be caused cause from GB on in /system/etc there is a install-recovery.sh wich overwrite all the recovery you have installed every time your phone boot up, just solved checking for this file and deleted or renamed (as you want) so in booting the CWM won't be deleted and overwrited by the original one (wich is called install-recovery.sh)
To be clear using root explorer os similar point to this file in /system/etc, then delete or rename, if it tells you can't do cause is read only file system switch from R/W to R/O
Not entirely sure but I think flashing recovery.IMG file on Mobile Odin solved the issue for me.
International S III 16GB / Dualboot 4.1.2 Stock & Cyanogenmod 10.1 / Gokhan's SK
Worthy path to pursue

This sounds like a good path to pursue, but I can't find any "install-recovery.sh" anywhere in the system. Could it be named something else, but have the same function?
Accidentally found a workaround -PROBLEM SOLVED 4 me
I found that after using clockworkmod recover, if I remove battery, re-insert battery and then boot phone in normal way, instead of using CWM menu to reboot, it doesn't get over-written. I put in my Title that my problem was solved. Some forums have some other way to indicate this, but I couldn't figure out how on this forum.
Hello, I am trying to modify my cell phone "samsung galaxy s6" with android 11 "lineage 19.1 unofficial", twrp and magisk installed, the root is working, I have modified several files with a magisk module that I am doing, the file that I want to modify is "/sys /kernel/debug/sched_features" but I can't. It has permissions of 666 and it is the root owner. Is there any way to edit it? . i was thinking of editing twrp backup but i dont know how to unpack the *.win file
You have root in TWRP, so what's the problem?
twrp does not save changes

What are you doing?
I create a backup with zip I open it in notepad++ without decompressing it I edit it I give it save the 7zip it asks me if I want to update the file I put it if I put it on the cell phone and flash it I restart the cell I check the changes and nothing happens
You can change the contents of the file directly in the TWRP terminal while keeping the ownership of the file (chown) and its permissions (chmod)?

Make sure the partition where the mentioned file should be copied onto is mounted as RW.
