[Q] HOX Evita in bootloop - can't get to bootloader/recovery - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

Hi - I just flashed ViperXL via TWRP (2.5, IIRC), but haven't flashed boot.img yet. Phone is now rebooting to the dev screen, then the One logo screen, then black again. I can't get to the bootloader or to TWRP. I've tried the volume-down button during boot to no avail. I've got ADB at the ready if needed...
S-On, hboot 1.14. I've done this many times before w/o issue.
Any ideas?

While the phone is rebooting just keep holding volume down. If it isn't working it's a case of bad timing. You need to flash the boot.img, why didn't you? Also, you should upgrade to TWRP 2.6 because 2.5 is full of bugs.

I agree with timmaaa, failure to get into hboot if the screen comes on, is almost always a matter of not performing the button sequence correctly.
The most common errors while dooing this:
1) Letting go of the vol down rocker too early
2) If you press the vol down rocker after the white "HTC One X" boot splash screen is already up, its too late. You have to do it before the boot splash appears.
The most foolproof way to do it, is hold both vol down and power at the same time. Hold them for several seconds while the screen is on, and the capacitive buttons should flash a few times, then the screen should go black as the phone restarts. Let go of the power button ONLY, and DO NOT let go of the vol down rocker until the bootloader screen appears.
EDIT. Thanks (sarcastically) for solving your issue on another thread here, and then not updating us here. (cross posting is against the rules for a reason). I wasted my time trying to help, when you already solved it.

Cannot boot into recovery!

Hey guys! I just got a One X from AT&T bought on eBay, although I live in Europe.
I managed to unlock the bootloader by changing the CID to 1111111 etc. (how many 1's?) and it worked fine.
I then ran installed ClockworkMod Touch Recovery for the HTC One X through terminal and it was a success.
I rebooted by holding down the power and volume down, and attempted to boot into recovery. I got a white screen with the HTC logo, and red text underneath saying something like "do not use this without HTCs permission" or something of the sort. The phone then turned off.
NOW I'm trying to boot again into the bootloader (I think that's what it's called, but by turning it off and holding the volume down and power key) and it just doesn't work. I've tried a million times, with different variations of holding down the keys. What happens is the light on the touch keys at the bottom flashes a bunch of times, then it boots normally. Everything works on the phone otherwise.
I tried to do it via fastboot/terminal by issuing the command ./fastboot-mac reboot-bootloader but it just says "waiting for device..." even though it's connected.
Anyone had this problem and found a solution?
Recovery
Clockwork recovery is not supported on the evita. Download goo manager and you should be able TWRP from that. And then you can reboot into TWRP.
I think you flashed CWM for the international (Tegra3 quad core) One X. Install TWRP as previous poster recommended.
There is no version of CWM Touch Recovery that is supported for the AT&T One X. You flashed the international version. Fortunately, you can flash TWRP right over it inside Goo Manager.
Be thankful you didn't flash it inside ROM Manager or you could have bricked your phone. I've seen people do it in the past.

Thanks guys, and glad I didn't brick the phone!
I installed Goo Manager and installed OpenRecovery Script, and managed to attempt to go into recovery, but again got the white HTC screen and something about "development purposes only" in red text.
I think I'm really lost on this one, any help would be great, like a link to a tutorial?
in fastboot run this command "fastboot erase cache", then boot into recovery.

Don't be too concerned with the blah blah in red writing about development version etc. on the boot screen - you get that boot screen when you unlock the bootloader.

What did you do in recovery? Did you flash anything? Does the phone not boot up now?
Thanks guys for all your help. I guess know I technically know what to do to fix things, thanks to you. The only problem that after probably over 100 failed attempts I cannot boot into recovery. I tried all variations of holding the power and volume down button while restarting, rebooting, turning on/off or up/down sideways but it just boots normally every time.
This means I can't use fastboot etc. I guess unlocking the bootloader and voiding the warranty was for nothing
If you know another way to reboot into bootloader other than the hardware buttons method let me know!
Believe it or not, I think you are just performing the button presses incorrectly, if you can't access the bootloader. Bootloader is probably still intact, otherwise the phone would not be working at all.
1) In Settings>Power, make sure "fast boot" is not checked.
2) Then power the phone off fully, but holding the power button until the power menu comes up, and select "Power off". Wait a minute for the phone to power off completely.
3) Hold down the volume down rocker. DO NOT release it until I tell you to later.
4) Press the power button for 3 seconds, then release. DO NOT release the volume down rocker.
5) Once the white bootloader screen shows up, release the volume down rocker.
Alternately, you can do this:
a) With the phone powered on, hold the power button until the capacitive buttons flash (about 5 seconds).
b) The moment the screen goes black, hold down the volume down rocker, (again, DO NOT release it until the bootloader screen comes up) but release the power button.
The timing for this method is a little trickier, if you press the volume down rocker too late, it will boot normally (or safe mode), and too soon, and it just reduces the ringer volume and the phone stays on. But as long as you press and hold volume down the moment the screen goes black, it will work.

But also, I would still not recommend trying to boot into recovery until you have installed the TWRP recovery as mentioned previously on this thread, if you have not done so already. There is no CWM Touch Recovery for this phone, so I'm pretty certain you installed in improper recovery on the phone, and recovery will not function at all.
Alternatively, you can go into Goo Manager and select the "Reboot Recovery" option, which should get you into TWRP
Or from command prompt "adb reboot bootloader" so long as you open your prompt from your adb application folder.
Or alternatively skip the middle man: "adb reboot recovery"
I really think your problem lies with your button pressing -- follow instructions on the previous post and you should be home free.
Well I actually eventually managed it! I think the volume button was a bit stuck because it still takes a few tries to boot into bootloader, but eventually I managed it and am in the TWRP menu right now!
I did a little victory dance when it happened. Thanks again!

[Q] Help, Phone isn't booting up

To get into bootloader hold vol- while holding the power button. Don't let go until it reboots. It will now be in bootloader

You need to let go of power, but keep holding vol down. If you don't let go of power, nothing will happen (except the phone shutting off).
The most surefire way (works in just about any situation) is to hold power and volume down. Don't let go of volume down until I say so later. The capacitive buttons will flash after about 5 seconds. Then the buttons will stop flashing, the screen will turn off (if it was on). After that, release the power button, but keep holding volume down until the white bootloader screen shows up.
If the screen turns on at all, the phone will always be able to go to bootloader. Failure to get into bootloader is almost always a matter of the user not performing the button sequence properly, rather than an issue with the phone.

[Q] HOX Stuck on Boot logo

Hi there, I'm new at this forum and new at android so please be patient with me!! This is my problem and I have a few questions too.
I wanted to perform my htc one x AT&T interface so I rooted it succesfully, then I installed recovery PWRP v2.6.0.0 but i dont know what went wrong and now i cannot start my phone, it is stuck on htc boot screen. I'm really afraid of what can happen now. I've read that if you install the wrong ROM i can brick it. I want to know how to fix this, and if i can flash any any any ROM at this forum. I know that htc is not upgrading this phone to android 4.2, just to 4.0.4, which is the one i have, but can i upgrade to 4.2 sense 5 using a custom ROM? please if you need any info ask for it and thank you!! Evermore, I wiped system, sdcard, cahce, etc...
We will need some further information from you. You said your phone hangs at the HTC screen when you try to boot it, does it stay on that screen constantly, or does it perform multiple boot loops? Here's a couple of options:
Scenario A (phone stays in htc screen constantly): hold volume down + power together, keep holding them and your button lights will start flashing then the screen will turn off. After a couple of seconds let go of the power button but continue holding volume down until you reach the bootloader (a white screen with text).
Scenario B (phone performs multiple boot loops): hold the volume button while it's booting, the next time it reboots it will enter bootloader as long as you keep holding volume down.
Now that you're in the bootloader, please post the first five lines of text you see. Also please tell us which root/unlocking method you used, and whether you've flashed any custom ROMs or anything at all before your phone stopped booting.

Thank you for your reply. I fixed this problem installing DM9 ROM and now works great. Here are the first five lines you asked:
It is unlocked
EVITA PVT Ship S-ON RL
HBOOT-1.14.0002
RADIO-0.19as.32.09.11_2
OpenDSP-v29.1.0.45.0622
eMMC-boot
I used X-Factor root and at a first time it used to get stucked on htc white scrren logo, then i performed a cache restore through adb and at that time it started rebooting over and over again.
If you can help me now with the following will be great: I want to know if i can upgrade my OS to 4.2 JB with Sense 5 having superCID and s-on, or if there's a ROM out there that can simulate Sense 5 for 4.0.4. If it exist, could you tell me which will work fine? thank you very much
You can definitely run the Android 4.2.2 / Sense 5 ROMs with your current setup, no problems. You will need to flash the Beastmode kernel as well as the ROM to fix signal drop issues though. All of this can be found in our Android Development section.

[Q] one x will not boot anything after rom flash

after flashing the latest cleanrom, my htc one x will not boot to anything. when i hold down power and volume down, the bottom buttons flash a few times an the htc splash screen come up and then nothing. i had root and custom recovery. Is there any way to get back to recovery?
Are you s-on? If so did you flash the boot.img via fastboot afterwards? If you can't get to the bootloader it's most likely a matter of bad timing with the button combo. Hold volume down, then power, wait for the screen to go blank, after a couple seconds let go of power but keep holding volume down.

You should be able to get into bootloader. As timmaaa mentioned, failure to get into bootloader is almost always the user performing the button combo incorrectly. Since in nearly all cases, damage to hboot would brick the device (the screen and charge light would not be coming on at all).
After the capacitive buttons flash, and the screen goes dark, be sure to let go of the power button, but keep holding down the vol down rocker) until the white hboot screen comes up.
Failure to boot into the OS after flashing a ROM is most often due to you not manually flashing the boot.img via fastboot (again, as timmaaa already mentioned). This is required if you are s-on and hboot 1.14 or higher (you haven't given those details).

[Q] HTC One S bricked?

After flashing cm-11-20140930-NIGHTLY-ville using recovery-clockwork-6.0.4.8-ville I get "HTC quietly brilliant" logo for a couple of seconds and a black screen. Same problem when holding vol- and pwr (soft buttons are blinking, but no LED indicator).
I tried reinstalling rom using fastboot, but <adb device> shows no device. Probably because there is no USB driver on the phone, since I've wiped it in recovery. Reinstalling HTC Sync manager and some HTC drivers packs didn't help.
Thankful for any idea!
Try to get to the bootloader and post what's written. As it seems alive it should work.
I guess you're S-ON and you didn't flash the kernel with fastboot.

I forgot to check is it S-OFF or S-ON I flashed the ROM with CWM.
Try to hold power during 15 seconds with volume down pressed. It should go into bootloader. If you can't get there I'd be surprised...
Dude, it worked! :good: I bought today some plastic LG sh*t, because I've been without phone for a week :crying: Just came from work and checked Your reply and tried vol- and pwr (but I did this a dozens of times in last couple of days and the only thing that happened is 5x blinks of soft buttons)
Is it possible that my Volume- button isn't working well (I've noticed that sometimes needs pressing harder or twice) or I am just stupid?
Yes the volume down button can be a little tricky. I don't know how to go to the bootloader if you don't have a running OS neither volume down working.
