This is how to use "MiniTool Partition Wizard" to make second partition of "ext3" file format on SD-Card for use with Link2SD and Internal Memory Scripts.
Things you will need:
1. A Micro SD-Card (size 2 GB or more, recommended at least 4 GB)
2. A PC or Laptop with Windows Operating System with a USB slot
3. "MiniTool Partition Wizard" software (download link below)
4. A USB Mirco SD-Card Reader
Download "MiniTool Partition Wizard" from:
http://download.cnet.com/MiniTool-Partition-Wizard-Home-Edition/3000-2094_4-10962200.html
IMPORTANT!
BACKUP ALL DATA OF SD-CARD TO YOUR PC. IT WILL BE DELETED.
1. Connect SD-Card to your PC using the USB Micro SD-Card Reader
2. Backup all your SD-Card Data to your PC NOW!
3. Open My Computer and check which drive letter is your SD-Card mounted to such as "G:"
4. Open "MiniTool Partition Wizard"
*NEXT STEP WILL DELETE ALL YOUR DATA*
*DO NOT PROCEED IF YOU DID NOT BACKUP YOUR DATA*
5. Right Click on your SD-Card and delete all partitions
6. Now you have to do some calculations:
-See the Size of your SD-Card for example it is of 3.70 GB
-Now decide how much space you want for your second partition on which all applications will be installed for example 1 GB
-Now minus your selected size from Total Space for example:
3.7 - 1 = 2.7 GB
-This is the size of your first partition on which all your data such as songs, images and other stuff will go that is the real SD-Card space
7. Now create a new partition, select it as "Primary" and give it the space you calculated for example 2.7 GB. If the size is less than 2 GB then select "FAT" file system and if more then select "FAT32" for example here I will select "FAT32" for 2.7 GB

"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",

}
8. You will have your remainnig space which you decided before for example 1 GB. Select this all and then create a new partition as "Primary" again, select file system "ext3" and give label name as "sd-ext"
See this:
9. Now click Ok and click Apply and wait for it to complete.
10. Copy all your SD-Card data back to the SD-Card and remove the card.
Your SD-Card is now ready for you to use.

You should format partition as Ext4 in Lollipop Android. It works for me.
I guess since I have 64gb and I'm partitioning 13gb this process is a VERY long one, lol. mine probably won't be finished until 10 am -_-. Thank you for this.

Using minitool to create a new partition and you dont need to format the sd card. The function Resize partition can help you to get space from one partition and then create the unallocated space. You can decide the partition label, files system, and space size. Of course ext3 is better than ext2.

Man I partitioned my SD card and it worked fine for some time now suddenly it stopped working it only shows partition in mini partition tool but when I format it gives bad disk after format ,my phone can't read it can you suggest any fix
I followed all the steps but when i checked my phone it says "damaged storage card". It was asking if i want to format the card and so i chose "format". I opened Link2sd but it said "second partition not found." I tried again. This time i didnt format the sd card. I opened Link2sd and it still says "second partition not found." ????? Please help thx
J've micro usb otg sandisk (Sandisk - ULTRA ANDROID DUAL USB 32 GB WHITE) for my note 3 smn-9005 with lollipop and rooted
j testing the procedure in this 3d in order to have two partion: one for photo, video, ... and the other to have my note 3 to start in dual boot and test new roms
then, when it's all ok, j will buy a micro sd for my phone
j've created two partitions as in 3d but my phone read only first (FAT32, Primary), the second (ext3 or ext4) not work
also link2sd read only first partition
can you help me ? thx
Only the first partition is always mounted during boot. for other partitions you have to create a new mount script. Link2SD has an option for it.
Another solution is to manually create your own mount script.

I haven't used paragon before but I would suggest using gparted through an ubuntu(or some other linux distro) live cd. Basically you download the cd image, burn it onto a cd, restart your computer with the cd in and it'll bring up a little menu that gives you the option to start up in ubuntu off the cd. Then go to System->(can't remember, but it's the second option)->Partition Editor. It has a nice gui and you just choose the last device listed which should be your sd card(check the size to make sure!) and you can create new partitions. Making an ext2 partition correctly in windows is a tad... difficult.
EDIT: actually, you can just use this:http://gparted.sourceforge.net/livecd.php

I am working on custom ROM with sdcard lagfix and disregard this thread. Please wait for some time. Will give you good news soon...
Imagine having 1GB space for apps and superfast phone.

Note: You should have 2 partitions in sdcard to apply this lagfix. First partition should be FAT and second partition size should be over 1GB. Attached format sdcard document have instructions for this.
Currently /data in our phones is on rfs file system which is making phone slower and you can not install apps size more that 150MB. This Lagfix will make ext2 partition in sdcard and use it for /data. ext2 file system is faster than rfs which will make phone faster and give more space for apps as ext2 is in sdcard.
. Attached 2 Lagfix versions. Filename with 1GB will have 1GB space for apps and sdcard need to be partitioned with 1GB ext2 partition. Filename with 500MB will have 500MB space for apps and sdcard need to be partitioned with 500 MB ext2 partition.
. Partition sdcard using Minitool Partition Wizard.
. This Lagfix will format sdcard second partition as ext2 and copy /data to ext2 and mount.
. This Lagfix will not factory reset. You will have same data and apps.
. You can remove this Lagfix and you will have same data as on when you applied lagfix.
. I have tested it on JPF and it should work in any FROYO or ECLAIR ROM.
How to Install:
1) Root your phone
2) Partition sdcard using minitool partition wizard (sdcard 2nd partition must be ext2 and size should be over 1GB)
2) Install busybox 1.17.
3) Put your phone in USB Debugging mode
4) Download appropriate Lagfix version and extract. 1GB or 512MB
4) Launch install_lagfix.bat
5) Your phone will reboot twice, then you can enjoy
How to Remove:
1) Launch remove_lagfix.bat
hmm...interesting,i think it's worth to try
edit:
i formated as you say and now my phone don't see my sdcard, pc see phone no.

created partitions, formated and no luck
Why do we need 1GB ext2? Does it use ext2 partition as application storage and fat as mass storage to share with pc? Can I use ap2sd with Eclair. I think 512MB are more than enough for applications, and there will be more room for music etc. If you can make a second version it would be great!

WHen formatting the SD Card, which partition should we format:
Ext2 or Fat
i tried format fat without ext2 and tried both, but same result phone don't see my card
same is the case with me... My phone doesnt see SD Card but detects when i remove it...
.
ok, ill try it now and then i will report back. also does this work on custom roms like motafocas JPF?
i tried permutation and combination and mine worked
What my final status is:
Fat 32: set to active and primary
ext 2: set to none and primary
Formatted fat32 and it worked.
Guys pls try this and urs will also work
Trying lagfix
my sd card even pc don't see, but phone see, only i can't format it in phone

Attached instructions for formatting sdcard and attached another lagfix version. Lagfix with file name 1GB will give you 1GB space for apps and need 1GB ext2 partition on sdcard and Filename with 500MB will give 500MB for apps and need 500 MB sdcard ext2 partition.
Interesting. Will try this with the custom ROM.
I have a 8GB SDCard, what should I do? Create a partition of 1GB which will give me 1gb for apps, and what about that 1gb ext2 partition? Should I make it bigger if I have a bigger sdcard?
As I understand the ext2 partinion is an extention to the internal storage memory. The phone thinks that there is 500MB or 1GB internal memory.
The fat partition is for mass storage use.
Thank you Apollo5801 for the second version! It's nice to see that there are people who can listen our needs!
I will try it as soon as my pc recognize my phone...
I'm seeing a lot of interest and a lot of confusion here about sd-ext partitions. I hope sharing the little I know will help others.
- By default downloaded apps are installed on the /data partition of your device's internal memory. This is also where the Dalvik cache and the download cache are. Since our Shift's are emmc devices this partition size cannot be changed.
- System apps reside on the /system partition but store their user data (like bookmarks, settings, caches, etc.) on the /data partition. The /system partition size is set and unchangable also.
- The Android OS since 2.2 features native support for apps2sd. This method leaves some of the app still on the /data partition and moves some to a directory it makes on your SD card called .android_secure. Not all apps support this and it is not recommended for alarms, widgets, live wallpapers or launchers due to the way the partitions are mounted during startup. It can increase your app storage capacity but it has it's limits as some of the app data will still reside in /data which is a set size.
- An sd-ext partition is a partition on your SD card that can be used as internal memory. Even though it is on the SD card it cannot be utilized like the SD card. You cannot download files to it and if you check your SD size it will show your card size minus the sd-ext size.
- Unless the ROM supports it or you enable it through a script or mod just having an sd-ext partition on your SD card will do nothing. The OS will not utilize it unless instructed to.
- Scripts like Dark Tremor's or S2E trick Android into thinking that the sd-ext partition is actually part of the /data partition effectively increasing your internal memory. Some scripts will just move the apks onto the sd-ext partition and leave their data on the /data partition and some will keep both the app and it's data on the sd-ext. The script may also allow for moving of the Dalvik cache to sd-ext also.
- Native apps2sd can be used together with the ext partition method. With the sd-ext partition, since the OS thinks that it is part of the internal memory, apps will still give you the option of moving to the SD card. If done it will keep some of the app in sd-ext and move the rest to .android_secure.
And this is my understanding of how apps are stored on Android. If anyone has some insight to share or can correct any incorrect or missing information please do so.
Thanks owed to Joeykrim who once took the time to explain all this to me on IRC. He shares no responsibility for any information I may have misunderstood or was too dumb to grasp

Ok so i have SSv7.5 with A2sd and my TB and XDA app went to my sd card after updating them and i got the android default icon on the sense screens, if i'm understanding correctly the sytem with A2sd should have just put them on the ext is it possible i did something wrong in formatting my card.
Also my internal storage is still going down more than when i used TB to force apps to sd with native a2sd to get more internal memory, and i have a 16gb sd card and TB tells me i have about 118 user apps.
Should i reformat the card and increase the size, or did i do something wrong in the original setup?
I hope that makes sense of what i'm trying to say

Ok this this has been covered on the SS thread, but here goes. If your internel storage is going down, then the apps are not going where they're supposed to. Also with the Rom having A2SD built in and working there is no need to move anything with TB. When you look at the apps with TB after you fresh install, it will say they're on the internel Mem. But they are not, it's how A2SD works. As far as the Default Android Sense Icon, I've noticed that for some reason certain apps do this. I believe it has something to do with Sense loading faster than the A2SD SD Ext.3 / Ext.4 .

yes i get that, they are all on internal but i had moved xda and titanium to internal, and then i noticed i hadn't updated them and when i did they were on native sd which is why they had the stock android icon when i moved them back to internal no problem.
But i am also looking and wondering concerning my space internal 450mb/185mb free and a2sd 1gb/436mb free, and wondering if i did something wrong, or i should increase the size of a2sd
I know a2sd is working just lost me on the updating apps and they went to where they think they are supposed to go rather than a2sd, by that i mean when you go to settings>application>manage applications> sd card none of them should be checked. if i am following correctly.
Plus for example i have tune in radio pro, it does not go to sd but i would force it with TB cause i don't use the widget and it still functioned perfectly on sd can i force those to a2sd as well? to give myself more internal.
I know it's been covered and I've read a lot of post and threads regarding it not trying to drive you guys nuts just want as much info as possible.

Well no the apps are not on Internel Memory. They are on the SD Ext. that is created with A2SD. The phone only thinks they are on internel. If you have a 1GB partition that is plenty large enough for most people. Also whenever you load an app it is automatically loaded to the SD Ext. You do not have to force move anything.

Native apps2ext is the only thing that shows up in Titanium Backup as official apps2sd BTW just thought I would point that out. Not sure why it is that way but it's nice to be able to look in titanium backup and see how full the sd-ext is..

Thanks, that helped. But, while installing HTC sense 5.0 on HTC Explorer, the instructions said:

What does he mean by "create 2 Sd-Ext Partitions ext4/ext3 on your sd-card"?
I create 1GB sd-ext partition, what about the 2nd partition? What is 2nd Partition and how to assign 1GB space to it? . I am using TWRP Recovery 2.6.3.0.

Simply use minitool or any partition wizard..
Connect your card through a card reader.. Open the wizard..
Select your card you can see the drive letter of it..
Select that drive delete it..
Now create the a new partition of 1gb ext2/ext4 for 1st partition.
same step for 2nd partiton..
Then remaining format it as fat32.. You will get two partitions..

You'll need 2 sdext partitions because one of the partitions will be used as SD-SYSTEM and the other would be used as SD-DATA. Most of the apps and data will be stored on these partitions instead of the internal memory on our pico which is very small. This way, you won't need any memory increasing scripts and will have plenty of space for apps. If you have enough space, you can even flash full GAPPS.
1.Open MiniTool. Locate your SDcard on the list.
2.Right-click and delete. Right-click again and create.
3.Create two partitions of atleast 1GB each, type primary (not logical), and file system ext4/ext3 (ext4 recommended).
4.Use all of the remaining space to create another partition with file system FAT32, type primary.
5.Apply.
Problem solved!

Hello i have problem with partition. If i made first two partition ext4 and last one fat32 even in partition wizard i see message that fat partition have to be first because system will not see it. In twrp when i insert this card i can't mount sd card, and sd-ext too.
May be need to install first fat 32 then two ext4 partitions?

Minitool partition wizard is a good choice to you. You can resize a partition and then there is an unallocated space, right click to choose Create Partition. In the window, you can decide the partition label, drive letter, files system and the partition size. For the 2nd partition, you can do the same operation, or you can use Split Partition function, which can take space from one partition to create another new partition. It is very easy to operate and efficient.
As the title says im going to show you how to configure the Root External 2 Internal SD app properly to swap Internal Memory with External
Things You Need
1.Root External 2 Internal SD || Download it From Here
2.A Rooted Galaxy Young || How to Root Galaxy Young
SO LETS BEGAIN
After Installing Root External 2 Internal SD launch the app from your app drawer, you will see this Screen

[REPORT] External 2 internal APK
on my device set onboot checked NOT WORKING. But its working when i push External > Internal button.
[UPDATE]
and after few hours experimenting FOUND a way ! to switch internal as external on boot but this method has a BUG here the BUG list :
1. when we look to settings->storage the storage bar is changing frequently or show full.
2. MTP does not start or in your windows 7 PC on my computer your devices storage not visible.
Here how i do it :
1. Must support init.d script
2. create this script and save to /etc/init.d folder :
Code:
#!/system/bin/sh
if [ -e /dev/block/mmcblk1p1 ]
then
mount -o bind /data/media /storage/extSdCard
mount -t vfat -o umask=0000 /dev/block/mmcblk1p1 /storage/sdcard0
fi;
Note : i suggest the apk method its safer and less frustating creating init.d support for your device

Thanks for the update bro even i have a init script which swaps memory on boot, but if you use that script sometimes phones does not run the media scan which sucks because there is not any way to trigger it manually tried many apps but it didn't worked that's why i posted this method instead of script

if you are using external2internal app then do this restart your phone after the phone is properly booted up don't do anything (i.e don't swap the memory) then run inbuilt music player and then close it after that open camera see if its working fine than close it too, then swap the memory this works most of times and remember after swapping memory media scanner works slower so give it atleast 2 3 mins to update
THE CAMERA CANNOT SAVE the PICTURE I SHOOT
in my previous post is for my script not using external2internal app. For clarification need.
But now i try to disable fuse for sdcard in build.prop to manually trigger media scaner
Code:
persist.fuse_sdcard=false
and i update the init.d script like this
Code:
#!/system/bin/sh
if [ -e /dev/block/mmcblk1p1 ]
then
mount -o bind,umask=0000 /data/media /storage/extSdCard
mount -t vfat -o umask=0000 /dev/block/mmcblk1p1 /storage/sdcard0
else
mount -o bind,umask=0000 /data/media /storage/sdcard0
fi;
everything seems works perfect with mmc attached and phone srorage as camera save path. BUT has problem without external MMC : camera can save pictures but gallery cannot read the pictures.. the problem is the file owner and file permission on the root explorer it say rw-------- in other word just the owner can view this file. So i try to change permision on that picture and YES it can show on gallery.

I currently own a Verizon Tablet Ellipsis 8 QTAQZ3 with KOT49H build. Finally a root method that works is KINGROOT. My issue is that I cant swap the internal with external as I am told that even updating UTUBE not enough space. Even with 6 gigabytes left. I have a 64gb class 10 sd card. When I look at dev/block/vold, I see 2 numbers 179:96 and 197:97. The tablet has no recovery made for it (yet). All my apps are on internal storage (partition, I think). I have read that internal and external are both the same. Please clarify, and can you please help.

There is a xposed module called "XinternalSD" it will do the same as this app but it doesn't need any messing with settings...just download it and activate it and toggle it from it's settings.
But this will keep installing apps in tge internal memory so you may also need an app like link2sd or S2E .

App2sd is not supported by your device. Because your device has a primary external storage which is emulated from the internal storage. Still trying though. Any insight.

Don't use the 'move to sd" feature...as it won't work on alot of devices.
Instead chose "link to sd card" as it is the main feature of link2sd app, were the whole app gets moved to sdext. (You must have a partioned sdcard, partioning sdcard is so much easy and safe, you can use google/YouTube to get more details about partioning sdcard).
Press thanks [emoji106] if I helped [emoji6]

You need a ext4 partion (sdext that will be used with link2sd), (it will be hidden), (make it good sized it must be bigger than 512mb to be useful, and I prefer that you make more than 1GB if you have a sdcard bigger than 16GB)
And the other partion will be fat/fat32 and it will be your system mountable sdcard partion (this partion is the one that you can put your media files on and move games obb and extdata to), (shown as extsdcard ir sdcard2), (make the file system "fat" if this partion was 2GB or smaller, if this partion is 4GB or bigger use "fat32")

I used a 32gb sd card. After some research found out the tablet does not support more than a 32gb card. I was using a 64gb card. There are 2 partitions , 1st 28gb fat32 for media files, 2nd sdext2 about 3.5 gbs. I am on rooted stock so I used ext 2. worked like a charm. Used the link to sd. But I tried to move the Zedge data says Failure Link2sd package invalid. But beside that its ok. Unless I am missing something. Thanks for all the help and patience.
