October 7th, 2013 - Up to date StraightTalk APN settings. - General Topics

There are a ton of threads on which APN settings work and which don't out there, and google has tons of old information as top results. Most of us on this forum regularly flash new roms and regularly lose data. I'm just making this post as a refresher, the following information has proven it's use for me time after time.
Original source: http://www.prepaidphonenews.com/2012/09/how-to-setup-straight-talk-data-and-mms.html
I included an image snippet of the good stuff.

Invalid Phone Numbers Problem [SOLVED]

Thought I'd post this issue since I've run into it since I got my new G1. Possibly if someone has a well read blog it's worth posting there for Google to index! There must be others who have this problem. Anyway..
I moved all my numbers across via my SIM card. It seems the SIM cropped all the pluses (+) from the front of all numbers with +447... in my contacts. (+44 is UK code).
Now, a +447.. number is valid, and a 07.. number is valid, but a 447.. number is NOT!!
This I did not know. Now I need to fix 100+ numbers in my contacts.
Further to this, and G1 specific:
In Messaging if I send a message to a 07.. number it goes in a new thread. The reply will always (I think) come back with +447.. as the prefix. This means it starts its own new thread! Annoying at best.
I would recommend everyone change their numbers to use the correct +blah.. country prefix.
Also, the Messaging app could be a bit cleverer with parsing number prefixes when it comes to threading up messages . Android dev team reading??
Anyone else had this problem? Any comments?

Sprint's Providing Dev Tools

I wanted to make sure everyone saw that sprint was hosting some code examples and such for working on EVO Specific Apps.
I was pleased to see it, and thought others would agree
// Sprint's EVO Dev Page <-- Check out "Sample Code"
[See Segment Below*]
// Sprint Developer’s Guide for HTC EVO 4G
[See Segment Below*]
*Because I'm a new user i not aloud to post outside links(or any links it seems) on theads, which is something I understand and agree with, but because the first thing I did once I signed up for this Forum was setup a htc EVO 4G group and post this set of links on it (a location where my newb-dom doesnt apply) I didnt know this til now . After no one saw my group or my post in my group, I figured I'd try a normal thread, thus finding out I wasn't able to post outside links.
But since the group has the thread and the links ...
Go check out the "htc EVO 4G Owners" Group to see some helpful stuff from sprint about developing for a 4G phone with a front facing camera.
enjoy
Hi BigEd,
I guess I'm confused myself on how to get to the group you're mentioning, but definitely interested. Could you email me the link to it? I'll post it on this page for you.
my email is kmartburrito @ gmail . com
Thanks, and good find!
***EDIT***
Found this on Sprint's website, not sure if there's more info I'm missing or if this is the link you were talking about:
http://developer.sprint.com/site/global/develop/mobile_platforms/android/android.jsp#fragment-3
Link to the actual guide itself -

Interesting part where they talk about detecting wimax and using their own API for everything until Google includes it in FroYo. That makes me think that we'll get wireless tether to work as soon as we get a working FroYo port
ConnectivityManager cm = (ConnectivityManager) this.getSystemService(Context.CONNECTIVITY_SERVICE);
int networkType = cm.getActiveNetworkInfo().getType();
if(networkType == ConnectivityManager.TYPE_WIMAX)
{
// you are on Sprint's 4G network
// ConnectivityManager.Type_WIMAX=6 will be included in Froyo SDK
// Until Type_WIMAX is supported
// you will need to hard-code the value 6
}
Excellent!
Danke
Looking at this 4G is as expected, just another hardware level for TCP/IP to be transported over. The OS handles addressing and which interface has priority.
The only thing Sprint changed about the API is in the active network type. It doesn't have a enum for 4G so the developer will have to hardcode in the value.
The only problem a wifi hotspot app will face is if it relies on the network update notifications too much, which admittedly might be a problem depending on the specific implementation.

i have been reading up on apns and have been overwhelmed with the vast ammount of information there is i was hoping that maybe this thread could break down the seetings menu field by field particular to this device also more pacticular to tmobile as of the diffrence in roms.

Call Log App that shows Date Time Duration inside. Motorola needs stock to do same

So, the stock " Call Log " that comes with the Photon Q is HORRENDOUS.
How does a smartphone in 2013 not offer the date, time, and duration of calls ????
Motorla needs to fix this and offer an update with a solution.
In the meantime, a google search directed me the Motorla forum that recommended these 2 applications below.
I just installed both and I am tying them out.
I am posting links below for everyone's reference.

Advice on Dual-SIM/Android for work or persona phone

Hello,
Trying to search for an answer I went back to threads from 2010 but without luck.
Currently I use a Nexus 5x with OmniRom 6.0.1., XPosed and microG with a Focus on privacy and security.
Until now I successfully refused to use WhatsApp but with new job/people/place it seems I'd need to hop on the bandwagon.
I had to get myself a new phone number (sim card) in this country and would like to use my old number too for my old contacts. A dual-sim phone makes sense there.
Now my question; how/is it possible to run two android systems on one phone at the same time, both with dedicated access to only whitelisted (XPrivacy eg.) data?
For the one sim card my usual privacy focused take, the other sim for WhatsApp/Google/Facebook - all those so called "social apps".
I don't want my data getting mixed up/tracked down/profiled with my other sim card and keep ist usage to a minimum. Mostly just reading group messages or posts
by other people.
From what I read, Google "Android at work" needs its own Business Server running for it. Won't work for me. I also remember Blackberry had a take on a private and work space once.
Or do I have to trust in/depend on the original phones software to manage the sim cards access?
What kind of software/hardware solution would you suggest to me? Regarding phone specs I'd prefer a good camera, ~ or <5" display (not >5") and a price as low as possible, ~ € 250.
Thank you!
