[Guide][CM7 2.3.5][ROM][BackLight Fix for CM7] CM7 and MIUI port from Defy

Now dangpzanco has set up a project base on MIUI/CM7 on github, anyone who interst in it can contact with him or come here !.

If you have any problem in using CM7/MIUI, before question, you may take a look at this thread.
Im not a DEV, so any tutorial and help is very welcomed. If someone can develop for it, that would be very thankful !
Any defy CM7 based/cooked/moded ROM include MIUI can use this method to boot.
Thanks to dangpzanco and r2beta0 for their great effort. And walter79 for the great idea.

This is my nandroid backup with some fix but not all, you could choose one or not.

Patch for CM7/MIUI ( It should work on all defy CM7/MIUI based/cooked/moded ROM ):
This patch fix the following：
1.GSM problem, you may still need to use baseband switcher to change your baseband (If you still have no signal, take a look at this,theoretically it 100% works! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1182050 )

2.Keyboard mapping issue ( except ALT-LOCK, however you can double press ALT instead ) Thanks to 19900828xy
3.fix CWM issues related to /data Thanks to r2beta0
4.When you are charing, you will have your LED turn yellow to tell you, instead of nothing (Charger light still not work)
5. Gravity-sensor/light-sensor are working again Thanks to walter79 and dangpzanco
6. GPS should works
7. compass should works
And the patch does NOT include the following fix, you will need to do it yourself：
[Both CM7 and MIUI]0. Keyboard backlight fix ( Thanks to r2beta0 for fixing. Thanks to nanox_06 from grupoandroid.com. Thanks to layoroa and Motodoido and julianlatasa for telling me ):
Make sure you have apply fix_for_cm7_miui.zip from my attachment ! AND, if you have tried the earlier method （replacing framework-res.apk ), you SHOULD restore the original apk before trying this method !
[CM7]open setting>CM setting>Displayer Setting>(on)Automatic brightness>Advance mode>(on) custom>Edit other levels...
[MIUI]open setting>Displayer Setting>(on)Automatic brightness>Advance mode>(on) custom>Edit other levels...
[Wajk/r2beta0`s MIUI]r2beta0 has uploaded a moded framework-res.apk in #203, you can download it from there and replace the one under /system/framework/ . Don`t forget to set the permission to rw-r--r--. Reboot and Done !
then you will see a mass of squares. Find keyboard row and change the first 2 value from 0 to 255. Save setting. OK, done! Pull out your keyboard and you will find backlight work again.(Be sure you are in dark environment)
Tips: After turning off automatic brightness, your backlight will still work.

2. The camera noise after system booting, which exist in MIUI moded by Wajk
freeze talk.apk under /system/app
if you still need to use gtalk, try to install it from apk (not test if this will bring back the noise )
3. Stock soft-keyboard too small
Use 3rd-party keyboard app to replace it
4. Phone version shows MB525
Edit the line:
ro.product.model=MB525
in /system/build.prop to
ro.product.model=A953 //or anything you want
5. The default baseband of my nandroid backup is CH2.6.0/2.5.0
If you have no signal, please use baseband switcher to change to a suitable one or take a look at this (theoretically 100% works ) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1182050
6. If you think your flash light is a little dim compared to before. (Thanks to walter79 and below is what he said )
Be careful with that. Chinese pepole killed it with fixed-sbf for Europe Defy and in past europe people killed led with china fixed-sbf. It is related to devtree. But if your flashlight works more than 2x then you can edit your build.prop and del this:
- ro.media.capture.flashIntensity=41
- ro.media.capture.torchIntensity=25
7. SD card can NOT be mounted in recovery
In recovery, open advance, select start adbd and then kill adbd. Go back to try, and you should find your sd card has been mounted correctly. Next time if the issue appears again, just re-do it again.
8. If you have USB connection problem. Thanks to r2beta0
[MIUI] Please go to #211 for framework-res.apk. Replace the one under /system/framework/ with it.
[CM7] This is the manual solution r2beta0 post in #213
You must download apk_manager and use it to decompile framework-res.apk. Then you edit bools.xml that is inside res/values folder. The variable you must change is called config_enableUsbModeSelection, it is a user friendly name. Change from false to true. Then you use apk_manager to recompile it but don't sign. Set compression to zero.
The known issues which can NOT be solved till now:
1.Video hardware decoding is dead mostly, only .mp4 survival (need someone to fix that soon!)
[DEV] I upload these 2 patch which is used to port rmvb/mkv HW Decoding to froyo. It should help with porting HW to CM7/MIUI.

You will find that you can NOT mount your SD card to PC.
Softwate Solution[Recommend]: Install Protocol-X Dual Mount SD Widget, you can download it from Android Market.
Manual Solution: Every time you connect to PC. Make sure connection manager appears in your notification bar, if not, enable/disable USB debug. Once it shows, first choose NONE, and then choose USB mass storage. By all this, you will see your SD card mounted in PC.
4. Charger light still not work
Seems lights.jordan.so under /system/lib/hw is related to it in some way. I replace it with the one from new leaked GB, then the LED became the charger light
Tutorial:
1. reboot to CWM and then restore nandroid backup (if you want to flash defy_cm7/miui.zip, make sure your CWM is 3.0+)
2. enable bootloader mode, flash fixed sbf via RSD ( fixed sbf is in firmware.7z )
3. Its recommend to make double wipes in stock recovery
4. reboot
5. CM7/Miui running.
[DEV]CH 2.2.2 (2.10.0) Download (The one who has downloaded it earlier should redownload it again for the correct SBF )

Have you tried all the baseband fixes we have? chinese fix, defy baseband changer, milestone 2 baseband app...
Anyway, if none of them work, maybe baseband needs to be adapted to cm7.

The biggest porblem: I cannot connect my SD card to PC !

Maybe you can push the files via ADB to your SDCard/Internal memory?

U should get a microSD usb reader. I have one, maybe I could test stuff out for u.

Or you can use a sd card reader
Lets wait for experienced people, I think sd is not working just because it behaves differently than defy storage, it wont be hard to fix it.

I have no minisdcard reader and now time here is 0:30 am, so it`s impossible to buy one.

hi everybody, unfortunately i've tried to install CWM5 reading information in this thread but my phone when start up give me image error and dont start.
i have used information point on point but brick my phone, please help me.

Always "Update failed"
I've tried all the different UPDATE.APP versions. And every one of them starts to unpack, and then, just as it's about to start installing,
I get a yellow warning triangle and an "Update failed" message.
Anyone experienced the same or know what to do with this?
I'd like to root the current 2.3.6 or upgrade to ICS or something, but everything just fails
The phone is totally stock from manufacturer, I haven't flashed or done anything.

download stock rom, take out the sd card connect to pc through some card reader create dload folder extract the downloaded stock rom in the dload folder put back the sdcard, start your phone while holding up & down volume button

download stock rom B866 then install and try to root stock rom 2.3.6 or just normally install ics

Hi, i manage to change my recovery with this method but do it with TWRP 2.7.1.0, when i reboot i have this message :
Image signature verify fail!
Your boot/recovery image may have an incorrect signature.
Please update your image to a signature official one.

i remove the battery put in place and push "Volume - Volume + Power" to have the purple screen but the directory doesn't mount.
I have a backup of original file (amss.mbm, boot.img, cust.img, EMMCBOOT.MBM, recovery.img) but i can't find a way to push into the phone with ADB command or with standard way.
I also try to push the dload directory of different version of official ROM (B866, B926, B924, B927, B919, B932) to an MicroSD card but it always end with an error at Step 2/2 (install) with this message :

i hear from someone if you have cwm you will be fine case you can reflash rom with it

Update 11.04.2013: Data Resize partition to 2.74GB Detailed description from here
1. We backup with recovery.
2. Unloaded and 2.74GB decompressed data (Thx to spanish friends! ).
3. SP Open Flashtool and as we have done before installing the recovery in scatter-loading MT6589_Android_scatter_emmc.txt select the file in the folder where we unzipped 2.74GB Data
4. We ensure that only EBR1 and EBR2 are marked.
5. We Give to Download, accept the prompt, connect via USB the phone off the PC. As with the recovery if the process fails, disconnect the cable, remove and put the battery and repeat this step.
6. If all goes well, will back the green circle. Disconnect the phone from the PC.
7. Now we go back to recovery (Turn on the phone by holding the power key + volume +).
8. In the recovery do wipe data / factory reset.
9. Optionally if you want to restore the data and installed applications we advance restore, choose the backup you made ​​in step 1, and finally we give to Restore data.
10. Reboot from recovery. In this first boot after repartitioning we may see a notification saying the phone storage is damaged, then click in it. It will show a dialog box asking if you want to format the SD card, does not refer to the External SD but the phone's internal memory, so we do not fear clicking on Format. After doing the latter, voila, you have the Data partition (where apps are installed) extended to 2.74GB

I've got a quad core 6589 version, so far cannot find a way to root it..
And it's NetworkLocation.apk is missing, i tried a couple of NetworkLocation.apk from JellyBean gapps zip files, no one seems to work, either not installable, crash on boot or not working.
3G connection seems to be dodgy, H/H+ is shown on the top bar but data is not coming down normally, during 1 minute, only less than 100k data come down and not able to load even 1 page...
Anyone has the same problem?

Yes the baseband or antennas seems to be crap.
Start download and remove your hands from the device or take it only with two fingers on the upper side, then my downlads finish and downloads show normal values. Speedtest with upload is seems to be fine,...
If someone needs root or cwm write me pm, or give me public upload location I´m not so experienced with this,...

The MT6589 is really good stuff, for me its my personal Favorite , but I would prefer smaller devices with 4-4,7" max screensize.
5,5" and higher does not really fit in any shirt pocket. If I ever have to carry a bag for my phone I would prefer a tablet with much better screens and battery life.
So i´m looking forward to Jiayu G4, G5, UMI X1S, or something similar screensize

vibration problem was a wrong setting by my side... still have problems with amazon app-shop (very strange, I've it installed on many devices and different versions of android, jelly bean included)

The MTK chipsets have always been weak on data connection starting from the MTK6573. It's so bad that connection can be lost while my Samsung right beside it has a good connection.
Anybody knows what is wrong with this China made phones?

I managed to root. Thanks for the help guys (sarcasm).......The files that "cmoegele" posted worked except for the usb driver files. I had to use PdAnet for connection. I'll be watching to see what other members find on the camera focus and poor data comms.

Data upload is stable, and downlad has good values for a while, but slows down from time to time. So I think the device is not doing completly wrong. There needs to be still some finetuning in Baseband and Rom like man other devices always need.
The performance and quality is really good, even +2 days Batter lifetime is a good value for this powerful device.
I´m waiting for new Roms

Hi fmehrtens, may I know the RAM and ROM capacity of your phone model? I am wondering if 8GB ROM and 1GB RAM model can be rooted using same method, thanks.

Spec says 8GB ROM and 1GB RAM, however AnTuTu shows only 1GB ROM and 1GB RAM. Am I missing anything here?

It is a 4G ROM and 1G RAM. Just FYI, the first time I tried to root it did not root, I had to try it a couple of times, and then I also loaded the ZIP file on the ROM memory along with the SD card. It worked that time. Not sure if that's what helped or not. The phone is a really nice phone ecpecially after rooting. I am also having trouble with Amazon App store app, Netflix playing too slow and the camera focus.

I have got a Copy of the origin Rom done with SPFTools. If it is needed. You also can use the Scatterfile from the zip-file.
Do you have a link for the 4.2.1 Miz Z1 firmware ? Perhaps its a fake,...
Otherwise I will flash it to our device except the Preloader, so if it fails I could go back to stock.

May I know the country you using the phone in? I have very bad experience with MTK chipsets with regards to data transfer. Other phones e.g. Samsung, LG do not give me this problem.
How to improve the data performance?

To install the USB drivers VCOM the phone must be turned off and connected to the PC with or without a battery depending on the type of device,
get a screen like this in the device manager of the computer
Once you have installed the terminal will be shown in this way (the COM port may be different)
For those who have problems with the installation of these drivers and have had in the past a terminal mtk
they may have a driver conflict, or even if you just do the confusion and installed it different,

Hi, I have one of these devices that just won't boot at all (bricked?) I have no idea how to fix this, I have downloaded and tried to do the above without much luck, I did however get the recovery modded twrp for android 7 successfully flashed (I think) but still nothing, any assistance would be most helpful, I would be happy to allow someone to take over my pc, to see if they can figure it out, just getting it to boot up would be a start !

1. Preparation:
- Charge Your Device.
- Backup Phone Apps, Contacts, SMS.
- Enable developer options: Go To Settings -> About Phone -> Tap On “Firmware Version” 7 Times To Enable Developer Options.
- Enable USB Debugging: Go To Your Preferences -> Advanced -> Developer Options -> Tick The “Usb Debugging” Checkbox.
- Enable OEM Unlock: Go To Your Preferences -> Advanced -> Developer Options -> Tick The “Oem Unlock” Check box
2. Install Nubia Driver: Zte-handset-usb-driver-5.2066.1.11
3. Install TWRP, root:
- Download the TWRP Recovery Flash Tool: Nubia_Z17_mini_twrp_root_pack, unzip it.
- Connect your phone to PC
- Run GizFlasher.bat
- Choose 2, then your device reboot to twrp

Another TWRP: Run z17minis刷recovery.bat & choose 2 to install twrp.
4. Install Gapps:-
- Download open_gapps-arm64-7.1-full-20180207 and Flash the zip Via Twrp Recovery.
- Wipe Dalvik Cache and Reboot.
- Fix Google authorization is required Problem:
o Go To Setting -> Apps -> Force Stop and Clear Data Of (Download Manager, Google Play Store, Google Play Services, Google Services Framework, and Google Account Manager).
o Set up your Google Account again.
o Go to airplane mode, waitting ~5’
o Reboot The Device.
o Come to normal mode
5. Install ROM:
- Download ROM & copy it to internal storage
- Flash the zip Via Twrp Recovery.
Here I have 2 ROM cook:
- NX589J_V2.16_2018.01.09: From SY in chinese forum: I’m using that Rom, it’s ok, but it has T-setting in Chinese language  I extract T-setting to change language but I cant. It also can install Xposed too
- flyme6_NX589J_136fei: I’ve just see this ROM, so I’ve not try it yet
- Rom EN 1.01: shared from NerekPL, I have not installed yet, but the review is ok, i saw the En version 1.04 but cant find link download
- Update ROM EN 1.04 from logosfp: Everything works great with EN_1.04 except... the problem with "always" pending downloads and installations in the Google Play
- Update ROM CN 3.04 from nubia
- Update rom cook CN 3.04 from cwz: fault at panorama camera.
- Update rom CN 3.07 from nubia
- Update ROm Mokee free version by fei
- Update rom EN 1.06
6. Install xposed:
you can install xposed for NX589J, but i think it cant help much.
- installer/ uninstaller xposed 3.1.5 apk from this forum
- install xposed framework in the link above: install through recovery.

I dont know. But i think u can try removing account in app and using titanium to wipe app data.

So far the community around Z17 miniS is small and there no so many ROMs available and users posting about this device, so any contribution is more than welcome.
Which ROM are you currently using? Is it working fine? Do you manage to get the settings in English?
I currently have chinese v2.10 with GApps in my phone but I'm quite disappointed for a number of reasons:
- Battery drains really fast. I have to put the device in "energy save" mode and even this does not make the battery work for more than 6/8 hours.
- I have problem with some Google services.
- Minor bugs when "sharing" things between apps or accessing to media from apps (change the profile picture in several apps doesn't work, for instance).
Is it worthy change to any of the ROMs you mentioned (and which one is the best so far) or it's better to wait until a international ROM is released (by the way, I can't not find it anywhere :crying
The phone looks quite good and the performance is great, as well as the camera but the problems I mentioned make the user experience quite frustrating. I want to believe that we will have improvements in the next months: the phone was released in October 2017 in China and it was just introduced in Europe. So, fingers crossed.

U can try Morelocate apk to change ur language, but it is not change all text
What problem GG services do u have? I install open_gapps-arm64-7.1-full-20180207, so dont have any problem.
The flyme ROM just use only 1 sim, however i havenot try it yet.
Is it introduced in Europe? Hope it has international ROM. In discuss, i see the version EN ROM for NX589J, but scare to try ((

This ROM Just added some tweak in setting (T-setting) in chinese language.

Hi, so I found the best way to get decent battery life is to disable wifi (it literally took my phone from 6-8 hours up to a full day easily). I know this isn't ideal for some people and data plans, but while you're out and about, definitely disable the wifi.

1-Turn off your phone and conect the usb cable
2- go to device manager and you will see android warn driver.
3- install Zte-handset-usb-driver-5.2066.1.11
4- Right click in Android warn in device manager and choose update driver
5- choose second option, after second option too
6- choose adb ...... and voila !

The Android warning is not shown when I have the phone plugged but turned off but it does when it's switch on.
