[Q] Learning Droid OS & APK Files - General Questions and Answers

Hello, I am new to xda-developers.com and I am also new at messing around with my Droid OS and I have taken a particular interest in the APK Installation files for app programs. I have recently bought an app from Google Play, and I am trying to share the APK file with a family member. Whenever my family member tries to install the file he gets "Application Not Installed" error and yes "Allow installations from unknown sources" is checked. After doing some research I have come to the belief that maybe the APK file that I am trying to share is Copy Protected. Thus, I would like to get some input on this and if I am right about it, is there a way to remove Copy Protection from APK files? If I am wrong, could someone please help me figure out why the APK file won't install?

Use es file explorer I've never had a problem backing up apk files with it and never had issues with them not installing. However, when the app uses its most likely built in license check it may deactivate or bump back to a trial version.

basically, after i install an .apk to my phone, can i delete the .apk file off my device?
as with windows, after you use the .exe to install, you can delete it
i thought for sure id have a few responses by now the way this forum moves lol
You may do so if you like. The apk is the installer file.

yes you can delete any .apk file that is downloaded to the phone. all you need to do is either download uninstaller by Rhytm Software in the market or you can just go into menu>settings>applications and go from there.

Wouldn't have thought it'd be against the rules as it was preinstalled.

It was only preinstalled in some regions - e.g. the UK. So care should be taken - point to the fact that it's available in hidden.rfs should be enough.

Dave
ok here is the apk. you will need to extract the gameloft folder from hidden.rfs for it to work
Please only use this if your device came with nova
MOD: If there is an issue feel free to pull it or pm me
Any clues as to how to extract the relevant bits from the hidden.rfs file, to access gameloft folder? I also flashed my UK device, which came with NOVA, and obviously lost it. Would love to get it back. I've seen instructions but they often refer to Linux or the MacOS and, well, apart from Android, I run Windows.
download magiciso open the hidden file with that and extract what you need.
Or winimage. I am not going to upload it here for piracy reasons

if you already had it, just install the apk and it will work. The data should still be on the sdcard.
unless it has been wiped. if you are not sure weather you have the data, it will be in /gameloft/nova or something like that
Or do a search in this forum for a link to the full CPW firmware set including the full hidden.rfs image which has the full Nova HD installer in it, plus the instructions on how to extract it.
The first time you run the game it'll download something like 200MB of data to the sdcard if you haven't got the full gameloft folder installed ex the hidden.rfs file.
Guys, you are all very kind. Thanks for your suggestions. But my attempt to do this is still failing...
I downloaded the CPW rom but it was encoded. I downloaded the decoder but it errors (doesn't run at all in XP and gives lots of nice errors (java??) on Windows 7). So I cannot actually access the image, despite having ISOmagic ready to run.
It's driving me batty. I know it's just a few £ to purchase, but I'm so close to getting it back - I just can't bring myself to give Gameloft even more money than I already have.
Any final thoughts or tips on this?
TIA
Okay - tried the decode program on another Windows 7 installation and no errors. It decoded the ROM absolutely fine. The ENC file became a ZIP file. I opened the ZIP file and in there was a TAR file. I opened the TAR file with WinRAR and was finally able to extract the EFS file. Finally, using Magic ISO, I manually opened the EFS file and extracted the gameloft folder. I transferred it on to my GT and hey presto, it runs again!
Thanks so much for your help.
MOD : delete post.
can i installed this just like that???
Use winimage. Anyway nova is on Samsung apps now

Its not considered warez if it was included on the phone/tab/device originally. Thanks for being concerned about it though. Most don't care and post anything.

Remove download restriction content not supported

Anyone know of ahack to remove this resriction? Specifically .rar files. I've seen a few apps that open this up but there should be a way to fix this..ideas anyone?

What restriction are you talking about? I can download any file type I want on my Mez. I can also use the AndroZip app to open create, etc. any zip or rar file. What browser or antivirus apps are you using that prohibit downloading rar files?!?
I had the same problem. Although after installing androzip, I have since been able to download .rar files. If that doesn't work for you, try downloading on a different browser (ie: dolphin). Hope this helps

Im not using any app and thats what im trying to accomplish. Right now by default if you try to download say.. an .apk file or a .rar file it comes up with the message "cannot download this file content not supported" These apps you guys are using bypasses this restriction somehow, im trying to figure out how to do this without using a 3rd party app and simply change/add some settings.

Do you have your phone set to allow "unknown sources" in the app menu?

APK compatibility

Hi guys. Im trying to install mobile NFC payment app of my bank. As Im rooted, I can not see it in device play store. I managed to download a copy using friends non rotted phone and install it manually. Unofortunately that did not work, it just said "App not installed". Then I learned, that AndroidManifest.xml file from decompiled apk can tell me what are the compatibility restrictions of the app to change build.prop accordingly. However, looking at AndroidManifest.xml did not give me any clue what should cause an issue. Could anyone who is more skilled in this topic tell me what are the restrictions from attached decompiled file? Thanks.

Question Install Android app with many apks

Help, i would like to try and install an app from my government id, so maybe I can go to more places without both wallet and cellphone. Knowing it's a government app, I'm 100% sure it will never make it to a smartwatch...
When I tried to pull the APK from the cellphone, i saw that on the path it had the base.apk and done others, like config_xx.apk, another .apk and one like arm64.apk...
If I shall try and install it to the watch, should I do it on each one of the apks? Adb install-multiple?

So I pulled all apk files from the app to my PC and used this program from here, called SAP (Split Apk Packer).
I was able to get it all into 1 apk, but when trying to install on the watch I get an error. If I don't sign the recompiled .apk with this SAP program I get the "failure collecting certificates". If I check the Sign apk on the program, then I get another error "failed to extract native libraries", as the photo attached.
I'm not an expert at all, I just try my stuff... so if anyone has any idea if it's at all possible, I would really appreciate the help.
EDIT: apparently, this error could mean that the device is not supported, from what I read. Don't know if that's really it though
