Google "how to root galaxy tab 3 8.0". Make sure it's the right carrier and model number (in settings>about).
Cyanogenmod is essentially a new operating system for your phone.

If you have odin on the laptop, yes. Lite version should be just fine, remember to check install drivers if it asks you. Also, one issue I had with my tablet is that it was still installing the drivers .

I get same message in Kies with Windows 7 x64.
Just in case you don't know, that's not how you update the firmware guys. As far as I know it's how you restore a dead or bricked device to the condition that it was shipped in.
Hopefully, the reason it's failing is that your tablet is not dead yet.
Thanks.
I never updated with kies, i used OTA one time then odin to put jb and root for a wile, then i got back to stock (when jb for my region arrived). My tablet is fine, binary counter is 0, staus official. For some reason kies sees the tablet as BGL instead of COA (region).

Why can't it be updated via kies? I thought it was for any samsung devices. Only phones can?

The screenshot shows a message that the Tablet does not support initialisation. Hence my statement that initialising the device is not updating the firmware. Kies can update the device. I prefer to use Odin however

Yeah I see that but kies is crappy. I've gotten that message with my phone and after reinstalling kies it worked.

I was able to update my 8013 today. I had to reinstall kies to get it to work. It seems that if you use one device with kies it doesn't want to work with another. I have had this problem before using different phones. Kies is garbage. Odin is easier if you haven't already got it to work yet

not only do you need to be rooted, but you are going to need an unlocked bootloader.. so depending what phone you have, you could be out of luck for now.

Galaxy tab 2 install question.

I just got a galaxy tab 2 7" and was wondering do I have to have a computer to update to a higher version of the android operating system. Now it's 4.0.1 I believe. Thanks for any help and also is there anything I can download that doesn't need a computer?

Not necessarily but it always helps. One choice to use is mobile Odin from Chainfire. Make sure you read before you try to use it however

Thanks for the reply I read some of the attached thread and it said the device must be rooted. The tab is not rooted. I don't have a pc to root the tablet.
You should have an over the air (OTA) update available to either 4.1 or 4.2.2.
Just go into settings>About device>Software Update

The last post makes a good point you should have an ota available. The latest version is 4.2.2

I checked it and it is 4.1.2. If I want to update it to the latest is there an ota version or do I have to do it on a computer.

Lol I don't remember what I was running on mine as I'm not on stock anymore. I thought 4.2.2 was the newest version but of course I could be wrong.
If you tried that and it's the newest version then the only other way is rooting it. You have which version of the tab? Meaning what model number

Ah the Verizon variant of the tab 2. Check this thread out. I'm not sure what you can update to, the version your on was basically determined by VZW.

I was able to get rooted w/ TWRP using Odin 3.09.
I followed these instructions, but i did not use the android-armeabi-universal-root-signed.zip, i used a different one I had on my sdcard already. I dont think it matters.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2514821
the first time i attempted it failed and replaced TWRP with the stock recovery because i forgot to un-check the automatic reboot box.
My second attempt i *unchecked automatic reboot,* unplugged the tablet from my computer *before* rebooting it into recovery, worked just fine!
Got TWRP installed just fine, but when I open SuperSU, it says there are no binaries installed.

I see. Still, I heard there are problems concerning the new FW about the tablet being unrooted if you flash KK on it and the samsung logo not appearing in the booting screen. Is there any way for the root to stay? I already know that there are a few bug issues in the software like the fast battery drain and I can handle that but the root though...I don't really want my device being bricked or whatever. I'm still a newbie about this so I wanted to find more information if possible before doing anything first.

I know it's official and everthing but that's not what I'm worried about. My tablet's already rooted with a custom rom and a blackhawk kernel in it. I read from the other posts that you'd be stuck in the booting screen if you flash the KK due to the logo missing and that you'll lose the root and will never be rooted again due to KK leaving a signature on the build or something. I'm not exactly sure what steps to take to prevent it though and I wanted to flash KK so bad. I just want to know if anyone knows how to flash KK in my already rooted tablet without encountering those two issues I just stated above.
Anyone?

You can always get root access again either by pre-rooting the firmware or by a custom recovery image in several different ways.

I don't think I can do the pre-rooting one. My computer doesn't run in Linux and I'm currently out of the country (and probably will be for months) to do anything about it.
Can you please tell me how to do it using custom recovery? You mentioned that there are different ways to do it?
