[Q] HTC One X or XL? - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

Dear people,
I recently bricked my phone. Sent it to JTAG and they repaired it. I am being extra careful with whatever I do from now onwards, so I have a few questions.
Do I have an HTC ONE X or HTC ONE XL?
- Downloaded Hardware info and it shows:
> Processor (ARMv7) : ARMv7 Processor rev 0 (v7I)
The 1.50GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8960 in the XL is confusing me
- on factory boot mode, it shows
**** LOCKED ****

Before, what I did was:
I did superCID, s-on, and used RUU , complete brick
Now I can start fresh, so please help

You definitely have the HTC One XL, the snapdragon CPU and Evita codename tell us that. You have s-off now, so running an RUU with SuperCID will not cause you a brick anymore like it did previously.
Both of those links are for Evita ROMs, however I don't recommend downloading ROMs from anywhere other than XDA. Some sites don't distinguish properly between phone models. Plus, XDA has everything you'll ever need in one place.
Just make sure you stay within the Evita forum:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1538
Within that forum are our two development sub-forums:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1541
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1726
Do not under any circumstances wander into any other device forum, this is the only one you should be in.

Thank you so much @Scozzar and @timmaaa!
@timmaaa, I really appreciate your detailed answer.
just to make sure with you, the "HardwareInfo" tool I downloaded says that my processor is [ Processor (ARMv7) : ARMv7 Processor rev 0 (v7I)]
but the HTC One XL has 1.50GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8960. Are these the same things?

Also,
my model # is PJ83100
This always points me to HTC One X and not XL in my google searches.

Also the guy from MobileTechVideos (JTAG repair) asked me for my model#.
After he found out it was PJ83100, he said it is an HTC One X

The main thing you need to identify your device is the codename, which comes up as Evita in your bootloader. Evita is the codename for the HTC One XL / at&t One X. If it was the HTC One X the codename would be Endeavoru.
The HTC One X has a quad core Nvidia Tegra 3 processor, whereas yours has the Qualcomm Snapdragon dual core processor, thus identifying it again as the HTC One XL. The arm7 isn't the brand/name of the CPU, it's actually a classification, it refers to the generation of CPU design that the Qualcomm belongs to.
The guy who did the jtag repair for you most likely just didn't properly articulate to you the correct name of the phone you have. In North America at&t and Rogers confusingly marketed this phone as the One X, even though it's the One XL. I assume this was so they didn't miss out on all the hype surrounding the One X brand and advertising. Everywhere else it's known as the One XL.
Anyways, in conclusion, you have the Evita (One XL), I'm absolutely 100% sure.

PHEWW! Thanks @timmaaa. I was patiently waiting for your answer.
Now I need to muster up some courage to start where I left off!
Don;t know if this is the right place to post this but:
My HTC One XL (EVITA) is not S-OFF, rooted, bootloader locked, CID-22222222 and Clockworkmod is installed
I am now going to start from step 2 of the following thread to install cyanogenmod 10.2. (i.e. Update to 3.18 RUU)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2382933&highlight=cyanogenmod+10+2
1. Is it safe to do so given the information I posted about the status of my phone?
2. Will the RUU remove S-OFF, root and Clockworkmod?
3. Do I need to remove Clockworkmod before installing the 3.18 RUU??
Thanks again for all the help!

Correction:
My HTC One XL (EVITA) is now S-OFF, rooted, bootloader locked, CID-22222222 and Clockworkmod is installed

ARM is just the CPU architecture, and in fact both the Snapdragon S4 and the Tegra 3 chipsets use ARM v7. So that info doesn't tell you anything. Its the codename EVITA versus ENDEAVORU that you need be concerned with.

Never heard of that website (your second link), and its just pulling info from XDA anyway. And its far from comprehensive.
Do yourself a favor, and stick to my Index thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1671237

1) Yes, you should be safe. I only say "should" since flashing anything has its risks, particularly flashing hboot. But you should be fine. Its s-on and SuperCID that is known to cause a brick when you run a Jellybean RUU.
2) Phone will remain S-off. But root will be removed, and CWM will be replaced with stock recovery. You will need to re-install CWM after you RUU. Then you can flash CM10.2.
3) No, RUU will overwrite CWM with stock recovery. OTA required stock recovery, RUU does not.

thanks @redpoint73
Everyone has been so helpful here. Probably my favorite forum by far and I am glad I joined.
I will start the RUU process. Fingers crossed!

RUU 3.18 worked.
Now on to installing CYANOGENMOD 10.2

CYANOGEN 2.0 has been installed successfully. I am really enjoying all it has to offer!
All this has been worthwhile!

[Q] Please help me with my AT&T HTC ONE XL...about unlock&root.

Well, I got a AT&T HTC ONE X( it's xl actually ).:victory:
I need to ROOT that.It said that if I want to root that.I need to unlock that first. So I try to unlock the phone by HTCDEV.
One click root not work.

Then there came a error with a error code 160. MID ERROR.
Well, then I read some materials and know that unlocking the phone need to root first...
Okay, now I have been totally confused with that.......
Anyone can tell me how to deal with that?
Oh, my version is 2.20.502.7 710RD.

If you really searched you would simply have to type HTC one x 2.20 root and find that it is unrootable yet
Hi lucentworld
You don't need root to get a custom rom onto your phone. Once you follow the HTCDEV instructions, then you can unlock the bootloader.
Once the bootloader is unlocked, the phone is unlocked to be able to put whatever custom recovery on it you want
Once you have a custom recovery installed then you can put whatever custom ROM on it you wish.
Just because 2.20 is unrootable, this means you cant get root on the standard ROM. But once the bootloader is unlocked, that ROM goes in the bin anyways.
The HTCDEV way DEFINITELY works. I did it on my sisters One XL telstra without rooting first, she was on the latest unrootable ROM.
Good luck

Thanks for your insult. Hope you get banned for your rudeness.
I did not know ATT blocked unlocking. Here in Australia, we don't have such anal carriers. I was able to unlock my sisters One XL by the HTCDEV way. I was simply mentioning the way that I achieved unlocking. Nice overreaction.
Damn, after reading the guides myself. It looks like you are pretty screwed if you have the ATT One X on that version. I was a bit thrown by the mention of One XL. Here in Aus, we have the One X (international tegra quad core) and the One XL (qualcomm dual core). Its a little less confusing, One X = quad core One XL = dual core. It seems in the states, you have ATT One X = dual core, Rodgers One XL, and International One X

LOL, no probs dude,
The Telstra ver. has LTE
And 3G coverage that covers most of the country
Vodafone, Optus and virgin are left with the One X (tegra)
I am happy with the performance and battery life of the One XL, the missus has a Tegra One X, and I really cant tell the difference. Both were just as hard to Root/Unlock
Good Luck OP :good:
So the only thing I can do is to wait for a method to root the 2.20?

[Q] ViperX/XL

So right off the bat I have very little knowledge of rooting and flashing roms. I did however successfully unlock, root and flash CM10 onto my AT&T HOX a few months ago. I want to try out the ViperX rom but after reading the install instructions I noticed that I needed to have HBOOT 1.31 or higher and I have 1.14. The only way to get the higher HBOOT is to have a compatible CID # from what I can tell mine isnt on the list included in the link that they posted. Is it really required? What would be my options if I wanted to change to the ViperX/XL Rom?
Thanks in advance!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2087443
you might be in the wrong forum what phone do you have one x or one xl viper x is for the international version while viper xl is for the one xl
You are trying to link ViperX in the Development forum for the Tegra 3 quad core version of the One X (ENDEAVORU). Completely different hardware. Flash anything for that version, and you might brick your phone. If you are on any forum page that doesn't say "AT&T" in the forum title, you are in the wrong place (quad core forum).
You want ViperXL: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1868236

Firstly, all the info you'll ever need is on this forum right here. Going elsewhere is a surefire way to end up damaging your phone, as some of these other sites don't clearly distinguish between the Evita (One XL) and the Endeavoru (One X).
Secondly, there are working methods to root and s-off this phone on the 3.18 firmware, and they've been available for quite some time now.

There is no process for it. You need to unlock the bootloader, install custom recovery, and flash SU.
Technically, its possible. But devs aren't going to spend countless hours looking for a root exploit, when HTC has already provided a means for doing so.
And do you have the EVITA (dual core) or ENDEAVORU (Quad core)? If you have the ENDEAVORU, you are in the wrong forum section. This forum section is specific to the dual core version, known in most places as the One XL.
In order to install superuser you need a custom recovery (TWRP), and in order to install a custom recovery you must have an unlocked bootloader. So unless you're willing to compromise when it comes to those prerequisites you can't have root. More importantly, do you have the One X or the One XL? You're posting in the One XL forum. What are your bootloader details please?
Also, what exactly do you want to get out of rooting your phone?

GOod night. My main issue is the sheer number of ppl with the HTC OneXL in this forum. Lot of posts i see say 'sent from my HTC OneXL'..i read something on this very site telling me that when downloading ROMs or anything really for a device, make sure you get the correct files. This forum contains info on the AT&t and ROgers HTC OneX annddd the Telstra OneXL..the only real ROMs i am interested in would be the latest KitKat update from AT&T, CyanogenMod11 and MIUI. Ive got the necessary info on my device here. Ive already unlocked my bootloader, rooted, SuperCID. Root fully working with TWRP recovery. Still on the stock ROM. Im from the Virgin Islands, and with my HTC devices in the past as well as the Galaxy S4s, CyanogenMod ROMS always seemed to provide slightly worse WiFi performance in terms of distance. Also was a fan of CM from the Inspire4G due to its Torch app with its dual LEDs, utterly unchallenged on high-brightness, lol. Anyways, here are the specs on my current HTC OneX from AT&T:

All the answers to your questions are in that link I posted.
Yes you will have a stock recovery after the RUU. You will need to flash TWRP or CWM recovery in fastboot mode (bootloader mode) after running the RUU.
You will need to enter your recovery after you flash it and flash SuperSU (or equivalent) to root the Rom.
Your phone will remain unlocked, SuperCID, and S-Off after running the RUU.
As for the toolkit, you can do these things without it. A tool kit at this point is a crutch. You a far enough along now that you should understand how these things work. (OK. off soapbox now.)
Read through the link I posted. I detailed all the info you need to be successful. Good luck.
Agreed. Forget the toolbox, it's a crutch and is totally unnecessary. If you need instruction on flashing a recovery, installing a ROM, among other things, have a look at my How-To Guide For Beginners thread in my signature. You should also read the Evita FAQ thread in my signature.
