[Q] Wake up scree by pressing Samsung Logo - Galaxy Note 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
Can anyone help me with an app that would allow waking up the Galaxy Note 10.1 by pressing the Samsung Logo or the screen portion above the Samsung logo?
The power button is not very accessible because of the cover.
N* Yes there is a typo in the title but i need to delete and recreate the post to update the title so.....
Thank you,
Daniel

Nice answer, something serious now?
I'm not saying to turn on the screen by pressing plastic, just by pressing the bottom part of the screen instead of the power button.

i read somewhere about double tap to wake
but i think it was in 4.3

This works for my droid razr when I tap near the earpiece/logo but it doesn't work for my note 10.1. Maybe I'm tapping the wrong place. Try it out.

An App alone wouldn't be able to do this- you'd need a kernel change, too. The kernels as shipped don't allow the touchscreen to be used as a wakeup source out of deep sleep, and the only way to fake that to happen means polling- and that means you'd kill your battery in short order.

I have found a solution for this, as the tablets don't usually come with a Proximity sensor, i have found apps that use the light sensor to wake the tablet:Automaton is one. Still a little bit glitchy or maybe i just did not have time to go through all the settings, but it does the job.

Please report back after you've used this for a while- I'll bet it kills battery life ...!

Is there a kernel that supports "wake with volume button"?

Idea for a rom function

A lockscreen activated by a combo keypress (vol up+down?) which locks the screen on whatever you're looking at including screen brightness and position, so you might hand your phone over to someone without accidently hitting back or having the screen shutoff whilst trying to show them a pic or what have you. I.E. a freeze frame. Then same keypress to unlock. Forgive me if this exists already, I didn't feel like searching kinda buzzed. Mostly want it for weapon, mostly.

Doesn't exist but for future reference, post things like this in the questions forum.
I have no idea what you're talking about? You just want a different combination to lock the phone other than the native lock button at the top of the phone?

I understand what you mean, but just set the screen timeout to a longer duration.

I think he wants quick access to this function though also he doesn't want the screen on all the time after he let's whoever borrow it. I think this would work better with toggles on screen more then anything

Freeze the phone screen on whatever is there not allowing screen timeout, screen position change, key or touchscreen presses (excluding activate and deactivate freeze frame). Basically freeze the phone in its current state until you resume.

Basically make it so the phone is unresponsive until the button combo is pressed again? It's out there, I'll look for it.
EDIT: I'm having a hard time finding it, but if I come across it, I'll post it.

Hardware gurus: do you think this app is fine for our SR ?

My question is about this app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...e&utm_medium=organic&utm_term=tap+tap+tap+app
It uses the proximity sensor to unlock the screen (so saving the power button) but I'm concern that it would probably over load the sensor over time from continuously being on ... What do you think ?
Seems like a waste of time unless your power button is broken.

Power button doesn't seem that it will last so long , plus waiving a finger infront of the speaker area is easier that pushing a button , but Iam afraid it won't be free !!!
I've seen other people use it before. Works well enough I suppose, however there are also ways unlock your phone using the soft keys.

How ?
It has been programmed into a few of our ROMS, so check the development section, and you can also find multiple apps that will do it however I would steer away from ones that use the proximity sensor or anything else other than the soft keys as you're probably looking at a pretty hefty battery drain.
Edit: just checked my current ROM (CM9) and it has it under lock screen settings.

Mahann! My apologies mate! I completely misread what you wanted!
Ok, I did have a way to WAKE my phone on my old og droid with the volume rocker.
However the only thing I know of that can wake your phone is an app where you shake your phone to wake it.
You can find it in the play store.
I know this is probably not what you are looking for, but it's all I got on this subject. Good luck man. Let us know if you find anything!

I don't think using the word RAPE earns you much respect.
Oh and it's a tablet not a phone.
I use screen off fx for powering down, gives a virtual powerbutton on your screen with some nice off-effects, and its free! That halves use of powerbutton.

It doesn't actually turn off the screen. In fact, this program sends a black wallpaper to your screen.
Not good.

Being the screen always on will that affect the device
Wow
Hmmm the whole point of this being on the LG G2 and 3 is because having to pick the phone up everytime to check messages etc was a bit frustrating. However, this app is TOTALLY pointless on the Note 3 where we have 2 (potentially 4) ways of turning on our display.
1. Use the damn power button located on the right of the device.
2. Use the damn home button. You know....that big button in the lower centre of the device.
3. If you have the mod. Press either vol up or vol down to turn on the display.
4. If you have Quick Glance turned on. Hover your hand over the proximity sensor....
This app is just unnecessary.

First of all waking up the screen using sliding or double tap is more easy and it will save these buttons from being destroyed by repeated pressing ( dont look at one day or even month use I talk about longterm use)
Also it is a matter of personal like to use an app which u may not like but I consider ot useful
The question here is that will it affect the display or the device on longterm use or not
Anyone who may know the answer please respond
Thanks

All you have just said makes no sense whatsoever. Buttons are there to be pressed, they wont depreciate over time, hell I've still got a nokia 5110 from 2003 and the buttons work just fine! This app if anything will drain your battery because it must have a mechanism inside detecting when someone touches the display.

When I installed this app last night my battery was at 55%, but when I woke up the battery was down to 15%! Shame because I like the app but had to uninstall it unfortunately.
Wow, this app is really that battery consuming? I really love the idea though, waking up my phone just tapping the screen
Of course, It will drain your battery, Coz its working through sensors and app will run in the background. I had htc x in that dev used some code itself in kernel, that was working very well and battery friendly. I hope our note 3 kernel dev will consider that and include it in future kernels.:good:

Couldn't said it better myself.
it's not necessary to port every damn feature from other devices to ours. It's way easier to press the home button than to click on the screen.
And no... buttons won't be destroyed. Haha that comment killed me.

It's a great feature in my circumstance.
I frequently use my Note one handed. Unfortunately, my thumb isn't very elongated to reach for the button. Double tapping on the screen to wake is a godsend.

Straight forward as the title of the thread. .
The name's Knockr and here's the Play Store link-
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=tecnology.angs.knockr
All credits to the developer. . :highfive:
I'm just sharing it with the community. .
I reckon, that's the closest thing we can reach without the kernel level access/modification. .
Good things in life are not for free. . what it implies in this particular case that the app would add to your battery discharge. . But, as I mentioned earlier-that's the closest thing we can reach without the kernel level access/modification. .
What this app does it, make all pixels go black (AMOLED screens switches off the pixels to show Black) therefore, ensuring that there's minimal battery consumption. .
This means that those who think that the app will function without having any effect on Battery-this app ain't meant for you. .
For their kind info-even the nativly supported devices use battery to provide the phone with this feature so please don't make a fuss about this app using battery
& to those that consider that it promotes laziness-I ask. . Really? :silly:
Not a good option because it drain alot battery energy

I know, the phone may not consume any power while screen is completely black, but it 'never' sleeps. No deep sleep = uncontrollable battery consumption = problem.

If some talented dev can incorporate this idea and create an xposed module that works on all amoled device which forces deep sleep and force screen = black, I think we may have a chance...
Nice, I've been looking for a battery-friendly way of doing this and look forward to the release of such. Preservation of the hardware buttons is something I probably take a bit too seriously as evidenced by my continued use of pie controls and double tap status bar to sleep

+ you can use Gesture Navigation & add a double tap to sleep by using Gravity Box mod action shortcut
this way you won't be required to focus your double tap on a small section of the screen unless you want to put the phone to sleep while being in an app
I have used these 2 mods in conjunction to have Power Menu from Left slide in Notification Panel
I change volume by sliding left/right over the status bar
I use Notification Toggle to bring me to Home Screen without pressing the hardware button & also to open the recent apps' list without long pressing the hardware home button
I use Ultimate Smart Cover (its an app & not a mod) to wake up my phone without needing to touch hardware buttons :victory:
