[Q] Why won’t my Samsung Galaxy with CyanogenMod start up properly? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

I’m having a problem with my Android phone. It won’t turn on for some reason and when I try, it just loops the start up screen and does a short vibration about every 5 seconds. It’s running CyanogenMod and it’s a Samsung Galaxy S III SCH-I535. It was working fine until recently. Please help. Just so you all know, I already tried clearing the cache and the Dalvik cache, reinstalling CyanogenMod onto my phone in recovery mode (it doesn't let me because "no file_contexts"). I don't know what version of CyanogenMod I have because I can't check because my phone won't even turn on. Thanks for all the help.

Probably a bad zip file. I recommend you download the latest version (or checkout the unofficial version) and put it on the sdcard. Then format /system and install the newest.
Worse case scenario you have to Odin to stock, reroot, unlock the bootloader, install cwm/twrp recovery, and then do a fresh install.

I never used an SD card during the process. My phone didn't come with one so I just used the system storage. Should I go for the worst case scenario solution you mentioned since I don't think I can access the system's contents without turning the phone on, or are there any other solutions that aren't so drastic?

You can try these options:
1), Get one or borrow one SDcard, copy another rom (copy about 3) on the SDcard, boot into recovery, wipe cache, dalvik cache, data, system, format sdcard (format sdcard will wipe all your video/pictures, etc..on your local storage, if you have important stuff then skip this). Now reflash a nice and clean rom like http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1973982 and see if you can boot up.
2) You can boot into Odin mode (download mode) and flash a full factory stock firmware. After this you will be back to stock and you have to re root, unlock bootloader, reflash custom recovery and so on.
Your storage probably corrupted and I would try option 1 first..Good luck!

can CWM recovery not see the internal SD card for the skyrocket

WTF is going on, why has this (in the history of this phone) apparently never been asked? I feel like I'm taking crazy pills over here, just trying to flash a simple rom.
i can access mine through CWM.
yes yes, the only thing i noticed that is different on this phone is that when i make a nandroid it puts it on my external sd instead of my internal but it still sees my internal.
If cwm is not recognising the internal sd card....you have a corrupt partition. You need to odin
Stock. Tar boot into stock recovery wipe data/cache 3 times each reboot. Then root/ flash cwm recovery back onto the phone and then wipe and flash your rom

Are you getting this message after you root the device? I had this same issue and realize I needed to first root the device, open ROM manager to give it root access then reboot. After that it was OK.

CM9 boot animation loop

I have clockworkmod recovery installed and rooted. It's been a few months since I rooted, and can't remember exactly what I did, but OTA updates stopped working. Hence, I am still on gingerbread.
Trying to flash a custom rom now, CM9. I tried the rom manager method several times, found out that wasn't recommended, and then tried the recovery method.
The same thing happens either way: it boots into CM9, but the boot animation keeps playing.
With the rom manager method, I tried wiping nothing, then tried wiping dalvik only, then tried... whatever the other option was, wipe cache and data?
With CMW recovery I downloaded CM9 zip and the appropriate GAPPS, moved onto the internal SD card, booted into recovery mode Wipe data/factory reset, then Wipe cache partition, then install both.
I'm able to restore from backup each time, but this is annoying.
Thank you
1. Install ICS Radio (UCLF6)
2. Wipe Data/Factory Reset
3. Format /System
4. Install CM9.zip
5. Install Gapps.zip
6. Wipe Cache/Dalvik
7. Reboot
:good:

So "UCLF6" appears to be rom that is similar to stock, I'm guessing the idea here is that I'm resetting the phone but retaining root, the idea being that something on my phone is messed up and preventing CM9 from booting but doesn't prevent the current rom from booting?
Two other questions
1. Won't format/system wipe out all my backups in addition to my data?
2. Have you had or seen this problem before? I'm hesitant to commit myself to something, especially with no backups, if it's just a theoretical fix. I do appreciate it either way.
UCLF6 is an ICS modem/radio you need if you're coming from gb.
If you back up though CWM you can restore again later if you want.
Formatting /system will delete the operating system.
Formatting /data will delete your apps/settings/wallpaper etc...

I had a similar boot animation loop when I went from stock GB to stock ICS. What seemed to fix it was updating my CWM from 5.0.2.6 (non-touch) to 5.5.0.4 (touch). (BTW, I couldn't find an advantage of stock ICS over stock GB. I have since put on CM9 which I'm liking).

Still got the boot loop.
When I did the "Wipe data/factory reset" I did get an error message during one of the processes"
"Error mounting sdcard/.android_secure!
Skipping format"
I had a boot loop problem when I first tried to flash JB. I went from GB to ICS with a custom rom a few months back, but I couldn't get any of the new JB roms to work. I ended up having to upgrade my CWM to the touch version in order to get JB flash to work. Also, a tip-- the boot animation will take a minute or two even when it is working. Don't assume it is still a problem if you see it more than once.

[Q] Help needed - stuck on CM10 boot-up animation

Hi All,
I have the Telstra HTC One XL, and have just recently attempted to install CM10 ROM - however have run into some problems that I would appreciate some advice to rectify. I had recently updated to Jelly Bean OTA.
I followed the guide on these forums - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1859478
I Successfully unlocked bootloader by following the steps at HTCdev.com
I Successfully installed TWRP Custom Recovery
I Downloaded CM10 as per - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1790032. I transferred this as well as Google Apps onto my phones storage.
When attempting to install CM10, I created the Nandroid backup as recommended, and proceeded to wipe the mentioned items using TWRP (a guide I saw said to wipe everything). This is when my Nandroid back-up got wiped. TWRP gives you the option to wipe cache, delvik cache, factory reset, system, external storage, internal storage and format data. I did alll of these, and this was my mistake I believe? I proceeded to try and install CM10 and gapps from internal storage (I had to re load these back on after I wiped everything), and the install of CM10 displayed as successful.
Upon rebooting to system, the HTC screen comes up first and then goes to the CM10 animation. The phone then stays on this animation (rotating circle) for up to 10-15 minutes.
I have read thread after thread with people experiencing similar issues, and have tried rectifying my problem with various versions of roms and different guides out there. I can still boot into recovery (TWRP) mode via bootloader, and this means I can still mount my phone's storage onto my PC and have access to the storage directory. As I have deleted the Nandroid backup though, and because the ROM's won't install, I am stuck in no man's land.
There must surely be a way to have a ROM installed (even if its back to stock Telstra) from the position I am in, it would be greatly appreciated if someone may be able to point me in the right direction.
Thanks,
Robbie
maybe yall need to "fastboot flash boot boot.img" now

Why do people keep doing this??? Just because TWRP gives you all those options, doesn't mean you should use them.
Sometimes, people will say to do a "full wipe" when flashing a ROM. But that term is a bit misleading. Factory reset (from TWRP, never from hboot), wipe Dalvik and wipe cache is all that is technically required when flashing a new ROM. Some people like to wipe more "just in case". But if you aren't completely confidant in what you are doing, keep in simple and don't make it more complicated than it needs to be.
I don't know if wiping everything is the cause of your woes, but it certainly didn't help, and caused you to do some extra steps.
Flash boot.img via fastboot as previously suggested. Otherwise, just try to re-download and flash the files agin. Its seems that some people are having troubles booting after flashing CM10 (even after doing the correct wipes and flashing boot.img). Doesn't seem to be much rhyme or reason, but just flashing again has fixed the problem for at least one person.
Thanks so much, such a simple fix! That has me booted up into CM10.
I have installed cm-10-20130107-NIGHTLY-evita and cm-10.0.0-evita , however with both of these versions, my touch screen is not working once it boots up. I can function with the volume up/down, and with the power buttons, but cannot get past my SIM card lock screen.
I noticed this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2083314 (no solution yet)...
Does anyone have a solution to this issue that seems a common one?
Alternatively, more than happy to get an alternative ROM on my phone in the interim...Can someone recommend me a ROM?
Again, I really appreciate the quick response to my problem, very happy my phone is in operation!

[Q] Is my Nexus 5 damaged?

So, firstly I'd like to explain a bit about my device.
It's currently Rooted, has CWM installed and it's on Cataclysm Rom.
When in recovery mode, it usually takes longer than it used to when clearing the cache. It takes 4 mins???
When in recovery I install roms for this device, they usually don't work. I wipe data/cache. and install the .zip.
It boots, sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes it loops.
Then when restoring the backup I had made. I boot into recovery mode, and go in restore backup it says. E: Cannot mount Storage.
I leave the Nexus for a day whilst switched off, then go into recovery it mounts storage... Sometimes it doesn't detect it, sometimes it doesn't.
So my question is, is my phone damaged in any way?.
Try twrp

Nopes it is not damaged
Just reflash the latest zip recovery of recovery and try again

Maybe your partitions are screwed up somehow. If you keep having issues, grab all your stuff off your internal SD and back it up one of the times it does boot, then use the factory image from Google to flash back to 100% stock. Factory reset in stock, then redo everything from scratch and try using TWRP. A hint to, in TWRP in settings check "Use rm -f instead of format". Tends to give me less issues.

SGH-T769 (SGS Blaze 4G) Bricked? Can still access CWM Recovery!

So I believe I've bricked my SGH-T769, at least, whenever I attempt to turn it on, I am greeted with the standard Samsung splash-screen and can never proceed past it. I can still boot into recovery mode and i wanted to know if I could use the "restore from sdcard01" option to fix this. I have a removable SDCard and the ability to add files to it via- cardreader. Can I even get system restore files?
P.S. I cleared EVERYTHING... not JUST the harddrive, dalvik, and caches, i mean... i cleared EVERYTHING which was obviously a mistake because that's when the problems came. I believe I may have actually cleared the system files themselves...
:silly:
Oddly enough, CWM Recovery is still alive and well, but I cannot access DOWNLOAD MODE
(I KNOW HOW TO ACCESS DOWNLOAD MODE BUT IT IS JUST BROKEN WITH THIS PHONE)
Hello,
Yes, if you made a nandroid backup in recovery then restoring that nandroid should fix you.
To better assist you, your thread will be moved to your device forum linked below.

The experts there may be able to help you with any other questions you have. Good luck.

No, you are not bricked. If you are able to access recovery, think of it as a second chance . Since you have recovery available, have you tried transferring a ROM to it? If that is what you were aiming for, I recommend transferring TWRP onto it, flashing it, reboot to recovery, and proceed to flashing a ROM.

Yes, download your ROM and Gapps package, place the zips on your external sdcard, boot to recovery, flash the ROM zip then flash the Gapps zip, do the wipes(factory reset, wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache), reboot.

Do a Google search for "custom ROMs for SGH-T769" that should give some results if anything exists.

By the way, there is a device called a USB jig that is used to force a device into download mode, you can get one for $4-5 on eBay or you can make your own by cutting the end off of an old micro USB cord and using a 300k resistor(or any combination of resistors that equal but do not exceed 300k), there are videos on YouTube that show how to do that. That should boot you to download mode so you can restore the device to stock.
