After spend days reading hundred threads on multiple sites, I have come up with a quick instruction in 1 page on how to unbrick D2G and unlock the band to use on CDMA, GSM network such as Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile. (Sim must be unlocked by calling Verizon or using third parties unlocked from internet search)
All credit will go to the original posters; I'm just combined all together to create an instruction easy for new users plus all the files download are in one place too.
Copy files from step 5, 6, 7, 9 and 18 to SD card before perform "How to" steps below:
How to un-bricked and band-unlock Droid 2 Global:
1. Flash 608 SBF using RSDLite (VRZ_A956_4.5.608_1FF_01.sbf) (press up arrow on keyboard while power up to enter flash mode)
2. Flash Repack_629 SBF using RSDLite (BL=2 BOOT REC CDTf__Repack_629.sbf)
3. Reboot, wipe data and cache (press x on keyboard while power up then press volume Up+Down at the same time )
4. Enable Unknown Source and Development features in Setting (To Bypass activation, press TopLeft, TopRight, BottomRight, BottomLeft (above Emergency))
5. Root D2G withSuperOneClick v2.3.3
6. InstallOtaRootKeeper, Run Protect-root then temp-unroot
7. Reboot to recovery then install 629 OTA update.zip then reboot(Blur_Version.4.5.608.A956.Verizon.en.US.zip)
8. Open OtaRootKeeper and restore Root
9. InstallDroid 2 Recovery Bootstap.apk then Reboot to Recovery
10. At Clockwork Recovery, run Backup the nan-droid
11. Flash 330 SBF suing RSDLite (VRZ_A956_2.4.33_1FF_01.sbf) --> After flash completed, phone will BRICKED, don’t worry
12. Flash 608 using EzSBF on USB stick (1KDStaz_D2G_4.5.608.iso) --> After flash completed, phone will BRICKED, don’t worry
13. Flash Repack_629 SBF using RSDLite (2_BL=2 BOOT REC CDTf__Repack_629.sbf)
14. Reboot, wipe data and cache
15. Enable Unknown source and Development features in Setting
16. Root D2G with SuperOneClick v2.3.3
17. Install Droid 2 Recovery Bootstap.apk then Reboot to Recovery
18. At Clockwork Recovery, Wipe Cache and install band unlock (TBH_Band_Unlock_v2.0.zip)
19. At Clockwork Recovery, run RESTORE the nan-droid (the one that backup on step 10)
20. Reboot phone then it should be able to us AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon and enjoy

It worked!!
I am one of the (un)lucky owners of a non-unlockable D2G. I was able to use it to make calls with a SIM interposer (i-smartsim), but wasn't able to get data working on the 850Mhz band (900Mhz worked fine on EDGE, with another carrier). After following this how-to, now I get full speed 3G (H+) on my "locked" D2G using i-smartsim!
I know that I shouldn't use data with the interposer, that it will probably burn out, but I just feel better knowing that I can use data now if I need to
Hope this helps, and thank you for the post, key5000!
Key5000, thanks for posting this over here. BEH from rootzwiki here, and I was just looking here to see if this topic had been covered here yet.
I also wanted to add a little explanatory note explaining why the different flashing methods need to be used, for those who might wonder why use Rsdlite one time, and EzSbf another.
Rsdlite flashes the radio baseband, and sbf_flash (used by EzSbf) does not flash the radio. So, by flashing 330 with RsdLite, we flash the Froyo band unlock-able radio (actually the complete system, but all we are interested in is the radio). If you try flashing 330 with EzSbf, the radio will not be flashed, Rsdlite must be used.
Now that we have the radio we want, we need to get back to Gingerbread, but if we flash GB with Rsdlite, we will overwrite the radio we need be able to do the band unlock. Since sbf_flash flashes everything except the radio, we are able to use it to get back to a recoverable state (608+629-repack). the 629 repack contains no radio baseband, so it is able to be flashed from Rsdlite.
At this point, if we were to take the OTA update, we would overwrite the radio we are trying to preserve again, so we need to restore a nandroid backup to prevent doing that.
Incidentally, I have a clean nandroid backup of 629, if someone has somewhere to host it. This would effectively eliminate all of the initial rooting steps (1-10) other than the copying of files to the SD card. Let me know, and I can get the file to you.
Hope this is helpful or interesting to someone.
This trully works, I rooted My D2g on 2.3.4
Thank you Key 5000 for the final summary.
I just rooted, unbanded and now am on AT&T on my Droid 2 Global. and this is my very first attempt at the bootloader of android. Everything works now.
Thank s to everyone, starting from someone from china "my wife got milk", shadow, etc.
Let me contribute from my own experince working on my 2.3.4 version od D2g.
I had issues with:
Rooting with item #5, Superone click and the zip files on #10 and #12.
I had to download a program to run the superoneclick on my computer with the phone attached,
I also had to download clockworkmod from google play store, and finally,
for #12, using the usb method, you need to look up the instruction on booting your computer on USB.
Key5000, please double check the zip files, EZsbf and the band unlock. i had to get them elsewhere, they appear to be invalid. the same files though.
Also double check the item #11 zip file. I had to get it from Shadow's post.
Thanks again. You've made my day.
All files has been re-upload again.
Nice job! Convoluted but it has to be to accomplish the right sequence of flashes.
Very clever work.
Thanks for the How-To easy to follow and was able to unbrick one of my two phones.
The other phone already has the Band Unlock and is running on .608 I was wondering to upgrade to .629 do I just follow the same instructions but start at step 13, skip the Band Unlock, and use the nandroid from the recovered bricked phone?
By the way can't thank you enough for the unbrick solution.
Not sure if there is any benefit to updating to 629 if you don't have to, I don't know what the real differences between .608 and .629 really are (I got my phone with 629 already on it). One advantage to doing this that I can think of would be not accidentally taking the OTA update and getting the baseband overwritten at a later date. There are other ways to prevent the OTA update, such as renaming the updater file.
I am thinking, and someone else might be able to correct me if I am wrong, that in order to update from 608 to 629, without updating the baseband, the proper way would be to flash an updated kernel file, much as the method mentioned at
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1345071
and then flash the nandroid backup. I am not sure of the differences between the kernels of 608 and 629, but am thinking that they are different, and that it might cause issues to simply flash the Nandroid backup, without also updating the kernel. For some reason, I am thinking I read that one of the reasons that wifi etc don't work during the unbricking step of 629 is that 608 is running with the 629 kernel, and they aren't completely compatible. In your case, you would be running 629 with the 608 kernel, and you would probably be the first one to ever try that combination.
Someone else can likely fill more in, hope this helps.
Hello, thank u 4 the info, I don't even know how to sbf :s... I really want to unlock the bands but when you say it will brick. Don't worry, I actually worry lol, you mean that rsdlite will brick after flashing and rebooting? Then I have to enter in bootloader again? How it is? Am sorry for my ignorance
First off, if you are wanting to unlock the bands, is your phone sim-unlocked? If not, unlocking the bands will not sim-unlock the phone, it just allows an already unlocked phone to work on AT&T or T-Mobile.
Regarding to worry or not to worry, as with anything, there is a potential danger anytime the phone is flashed. The same is true when the phone receives an OTA update from Verizon, it is rare, but there is the potential for mishaps.
In this case, we are deliberately "bricking" the phone temporarily, as it is the only way to get the it rooted and band-unlocked.
After the latest ota update, the .629 update, any attempt to flash the phone to a previous version will "brick" the phone, but since there is a method to recover from the bricking, he says don't worry.
When we flash 330 to the phone, it flashes the software to the phone, but then the bootloader recognizes that it isn't the proper software, so it won't boot past the bootloader. It is necessary to flash 330, as that gives us the unlockable radio. Then, we have to flash .608 using ezsbf (or another method to flash without using rsdlite), to flash back to a recoverable state, without losing the radio. It is still bricked at this point and won't boot past the bootloader, but now recoverable with the repacked .629 sbf. We don't flash the whole 629 sbf, just enough parts of it to enable the phone to work.
After this, the phone is back to a partially usable state, where we can root it, and then restore the backup file, bringing it back to a fully usable state.
Hope this answers your questions.

It is not difficult. Follow this how-to: http://droid.koumakan.jp/wiki/SBF
hi
I think i followed the instruction to do this. But my phone does not work for sim card and I need some help. My phone acts little weird. Can I start this steps all over from #1? Please help. Thanks
What do you mean by your phone doesn't work for SIM card?
Does your phone have a SIM card slot, and if so, is it SIM unlocked for global use?
If your phone doesn't have a SIM slot, then this isn't for you.
You can start the instructions over from the beginning, but in order for this to help your phone has to be SIM unlocked first. If you get an Enter Unlock Code message when you put a SIM in, then this won't really help you, other than for rooting your phone.
Thank you
I did every steps all over again and my phone works.
a question, these steps be discharged the phone to accept any telephone company?
These steps allow your phone to use AT&T or Tmobile, if your phone is already unlocked to use Foreign SIM cards. If your phone is still SIM locked, it won't unlock it for you.
By default Verizon blocks the use of the phone (even when unlocked) on AT&T and Tmobile, and this bypasses that block.

and is there anyway to unlock it to any company?
Yes, just get an unlock code from Verizon. Or, if you aren't on VZW and willing to bet/feeling adventurous, use those unlock services on the internets.
My D2G always goes into Bootloader whatever i do adn shows
"Bootloader
D0.11"
I flashed it with VRZ_A956_4.5.608_1FF_01.sbf then BL=2 BOOT REC CDT.sbf but again the same problem. Couple of times phone got started but for only some time, after some time when i reboot the phone it goes into bootloader. i need immediate help guys...
One thing more i have another D2G which got bricked after .629 but when unbrick method was discovered it got fixed with no issues. the reason i am sharing this is that it was going into bootloader straightaway when i press power button BUT this new one shows M logo for some time and then goes into bootloader...
plz help me out....

I'm not really in the U.S. so that he could not apply the code, I know a website is legal and recommended that I can get the unlock code paying?
Hello guys! I'm a newbie to the android world as i'm planning to get my first smartphone. As it is retailing for 130€ the HTC Explorer seems like a good choice.
I want to learn how to root it because I need to unlock it as I need to use different sim cards. Moreover I want to exploit the phone, optimize it and maybe OC it a bit.
As far as i understood i need to do the following steps:
This tutorial to root it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1415223
This rom to install: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1473218
Are these the right steps to take?
And would be "easy" for someone that doesn't know anything to do it?
Thanks for your help guys!
c'mon guys, 5 min of your time!!

As for the guide to root the Explorer, he's basically spoon feeding instructions, so as long as you do exactly what he's doing, there shouldn't be a problem. If you have any specific questions about the process, you might want to ask in that thread.
The ROMing part is the very easy part, you choose a ROM of your choice and flash it. The link for the ROM you posted requires a certain recovery (and it appears to need some ext partition), so bear that in mind. Remember to read everything to be safe. I think most Sense ROMs require a partitioned SD card.

Thanks a lot for your reply!
I also see there are a lot of topics regarding kernel.
Should I also update the kernel after rooting it? Or does the rom update already includes a more functional kernel?

JaggyROM already includes a custom kernel.
What the kernel does is manages the CPU. Different kernels have different governers, some kernels help battery life, other kernels help with the performance of the device.
For example, the stock kernel cannot overclock, does not have governers like smartass or interactive. But flashing a custom kernel may allow OCing and give you more governers.
I, myself have never flashed a custom kernel by itself because the ROMs I flash already have good enough kernels included.

Ok cool, so i will install the jaggyROM and have nothing to worry!
One last question: does the process of rooting unlock the SIM card? From what i've read by unlocking the bootloader you also unlock the sim card.
If not are there any more steps i need to take?
Or it is simply not possible and i have to buy a IMEI code to unlock the SIM card?

Rooting does not unlock the SIM card, nor does unlocking the bootloader, sorry.
For your phone, yes you will have to unlock the traditional way

i found this tutorial in another website. is it bogus?
[INSTRUCTIONS]:
[Prerequisites:]
HTC Sync (Windows Only)
HTC Super Tool
Enable USB Debug on Pico
Use Charge Only mode when connected to PC
Exit HTC Sync on PC
[Steps:]
1. Go to HTCDEV website: HTCdev - Unlock Bootloader
2. Click on "Begin Unlock Bootloader" (create a user if you don't have one)
3. Use HTC Super Tool in the [Prerequisites] to generate your token. (Or, alternatively, follow the instructions step 1 through step 10 on htcdev.com)
4. In step 10, when posting your token, make sure you remove the blanks preceding each line
5. After you receive your Unlock_code.bin in email, follow step 11.
6. Now your pico aka explorer should reboot and you have your bootloader and sim unlocked.
(i didn't put any credits or source as i dont know the forum policy)
As far as I know, unlocking the bootloader will not SIM unlock the phone. The guide itself sounds legit, and I believe that is the way to unlock the bootloader, but the SIM should still be locked.
and I thought I should point this out, I'm pretty sure unlocking the bootloader will factory reset your phone, so you might want to make a backup of everything first

No problem! Always glad to help. (And remember to click the thanks button for whichever posts you found helpful hehe )
I've never had to unlock my phone, but what I think the best place to unlock is at a local cell shop. However, they do charge a lot, for profit and such. Otherwise, the next best option is to use eBay and make sure its a trusted seller with good feedback. Personally, all those SIM unlocking sites look fishy to me

I can confirm this does sim unlock the Explorer! Yays. Shame it has to void warranty ... o_0 now to see if I can relock bootloader and keep sim unlock...
Funny enough, i read about it and didnt think it would work. But i just unlocked one of those phones which was carrier branded and didnt want to accept the code the box gave me. As last resort i tried this method and i can confirm it works. Incredible!!!! When i thought this was a very hard phone to sim unlock i found this thread and unlocked the bootloader and that was it, i got a sim unlocked HTC Explorer. Good Job you guys!
Thread title says it all. This is for a friend that has never rooted or unlocked any device before. I'm going to help him. Anyway, I've searched for over an hour and can't find and d720 info. It's one thing to brick your own device and another to brick your friends.........
Nexus S 4G (sojus/crespo4g/d720) is not SIM locked to a single carrier. If your friend is looking to switch carrier, simply switch SIM (provided frequency is compatible).
Try searching oem unlock and rooting instructions for Nexus S 4G.
eg. [GUIDE] [NS4G] Simple Root/Unroot For latest recovery and superuser see below.
Install Android SDK Tools and when SDK Manager runs, install Android SDK Platform Tools and Google USB Driver packages for fastboot/adb commands.
fastboot oem unlock --- will erase all data
fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.0-crespo4g.img
flash via CWM Superuser-3.2-arm-signed.zip. Other versions or superSU can be found here.
Ok so I finally got to look over his phone. No SIM card and no SD card slot - weird. I'm at a loss now. His upgrade hits in June and he's going to get a new phone and is not too worried about rooting. He's just wanting to learn and I was going to help him out. Any further help is apprciated.
It's not weird. It's a cdma phone so there's no sim card and nexus doesn't have true sd.

I know I shouldn't be posting here because I'm not a dev, but I'm trying to be. I figured this is the best place to ask.
So I picked up a USC galaxy s3 for $20. I fix phones so I figured I'd just use it as parts. USC has left from my area. So the phone is basically useless. I'm on a gsm carrier now so I don't want to flash it.I figured why don't I mess around with it and use it as a learning experience. I want to unlock the boot loader and gsm. I don't care if I brick the phone. This is my test dummy for better understanding android and EFS.
What I have tried so far:
Bricked the phone trying to flash vzw vralec boot loader.
Recovered the phone using a recovery sd
I got a stock Verizon rom running on the phone and hoped I would be able to update through that.
Flashed a sprint radio and a *2 connected to sprint
Tried using casual and EZ1.4 to unlock bootloader.
I realize now this was all a waste of time.
Aboot.mbn is the boot loader right? When the bricked phone connects as QH-Load that is when the device connects as the boot-loader? I’ve bootloader unlocked my CDMA xperia R800x play before using se-tool. Can you do this on the R-530U when using SGTool? Where do you start with unlocking the bootloader? How did the guy who developed casual figure it out? How do you bypass these checks? Can someone explain in-depth the security checks that are in place. If I manage to unlock my boot loader would I then be able to install a different one like of a sprint or verizon device? I have CDMA workshop and se-lg fusion box.
I’ve seen this guide:
“If you root it then upgrade to AOKP 4.1.2 custom ROM or any other custom or stock style ROM thats 4.1.X (Jelly Bean), then there is a REALLY easy trick. I know it's harder for US Cellular only because they are still using 4.04 ICS which doesn't support the menu you need to do this, you need JB for this trick, if you have it stock like on T-mobile then no rooting or upgrading needed, but US Cellular it is. I used it to unlock my tmobile, and my friend and mom both have us cellular. After you Unlock it you can always go back to stock if you want, just make sure and after you root but before you upgrade the ROM you do a nandroid backup to go back to. After you have a Jelly Bean ROM installed,
1. Type *#197328640# and it brings up the factory service menu (very usefull)
2. Select (1) UMTS
3. Select (1)Debug Screen
4. Select (8) Phone Control
5. Select (6)Network lock
6. Inside the Network lock menu, Pick option (3) Perso SHA256 off, Passed that is a screen that says something like "no options in this menu, current command is 11863", Wait for 30-60 secs, from there hit the menu button on bottom left of phone to bring up options, Select "Back".
7. The last command should have brought you back into the Network Lock menu, at the bottom is (4) NW Lock NV Data Initialize, Select it. You might be asked a saftey are you sure, some people not, after it begins that process wait a good 60 sec the reboot. Thats it! Phones Unlocked
It would be good for you to root and upgade a custom JB 4.1.x or higher ROM anyways as they have support and menu options for working on all CDMA/GSM/LTE Networks. Even if you unlock your phone using the IMEI number and paying 20$ for the unlock code, you will still need JB. They also have apps on the play store specifically for galaxy s3's, capable of unlocking for allot cheaper if your phones rooted.
Good Luck!”
But it doesn’t have the options for USC. Here’s my plan: Bootloader->Flash Sprint Bootloader->Flash Sprint ROM/Radio-> Follow above steps for GSM Unlock
Am I out of my mind or is this possible? Again I don’t care if I brick the phone. I’m using this as a hands-on learning experience instead of just reading things and not understanding them. Essentially an i535, R530, and L710 are the exact same physical device, just running different firmware?
I don't think your gs3 has a locked bootloader plus a CDMA phone cannot become gsm.

The S3 is a global phone so it does have the hardware for GSM networks, you need a SIM card for that network though obviously.
Ignore me... I'm apparently a blithering idiot who can't read ^_^
The Verizon S3 is able to use GSM, But you will only have Edge (Go to mobile network settings and change it to global). Another downfall is if you upgrade OTA you will have a locked bootloader.
i recently bought the m8 from verizon, upon purchase it was activated with a verizon simcard and after a few days i went overseas. now i am using it outside of the US with a non verizon simcard. i have a few issues with it:
1. cant use the phone as a wireless hot spot or tether its internet connection via USB-error message saying that i have a non verizon sim installed
2. cant get rid of all the verizon bloatware or any other bloatware
3. cant root - i came from galaxy s2 which was the easiest thing to root ever
4. every time i reboot the phone it alerts me that i inserted a non verizon simcard (is there any chance that the phone will lock up because of that??)
5. what is s-off?????
thank you very much for any help!!
In order to gain perm root use sunshine to unlock bootloader and then install custom recovery. Then flash SU. After that you can edit the default.XML to make necessary changes or you could flash a ROM with all the needed hacks installed. Already. Sunshine will cost 25 bucks but well worth the investment. There are a tin of discussions here on how to achieve the results you are trying to attain as well as step by step instructions.

5. what is s-off?????, this is the most import question in your list as it is the key to making your device as flexible as you would like it to be. This may not be the technical definition but I will give you the gist.
S in S-off basically stands for Security. The device has a mechanism coded in to it that is meant to prevent users from doing irreparable damage to the phones operating system. Removing the security when the phone is "S-off'ed" so to speak, allows end users to make any and all manner of change to the phones software. HTC has aggreed to exclude the Verizon version of the M8 from their developers access platform. Other M8's can have their bootloaders unlocked throught the HTCdev website. Bootloader unlock allows rooting, and roms to be flashed, with some limitations, and more hassles and annoyances then straight S-off. S-off gives you total control, and ease of use at the expense of possibly turning your phone into a brick. But if you look through the forums, you will not find very many people complaining about ruining their phones. If you use caution, read everything thoroughly, and ask questions, you will be safe. Once you are S-Off you can either run a custom rom, or learn what to change in the stock rom to enable features as you see fit.
Once S-off'ed, install TWRP (Custom Recover). I would then flash SuperSU zip file to get root. After that you flash the tether fix, or flash a rom with stock hotspot, fix your APN settings to work with your simcard, and every thing else.
Links are to Devs download sites read and follow their directions. I'm using all of the following on my M8, thats all I can say.
Sunshine Dev Site for S-off: http://theroot.ninja/
TWRP custom recovery: http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-htc-one-m8/development/twrp-blank-os-fix-t2879306

Titanium Backup in the Play Store can remove Verizon Bloat once the phone is S-off and Write Protection removed, you will learn as you go.

5. what is s-off?????, this is the most import question in your list as it is the key to making your device as flexible as you would like it to be.
If I do the s-off with sunshine, pay 25$ and later on will need to format the phone back to factory settings, will I need to pay again to s-off it a second time?

No, the S-Off is permanent unless you deliberately put S-On. In addition the the license is for the life of that device.
The non-verizon sim is annoying but has no effect on the phone whatsoever (been using my M8 in Afghanistan with a Roshan SIM for the past 5 months)
4. every time i reboot the phone it alerts me that i inserted a non verizon simcard (is there any chance that the phone will lock up because of that??)
No, it's a "global" phone. It's the notification they have show up for roaming and non-verion SIMs. I don't live in the US and use my Verizon m8 everyday without a Verizon sim.

I used to get the notification for the hotspot as well, but my hotspot still worked fine despite their warning. I'm rooted and s-off though so that might make a difference.
The answer to all you other questions can be easily found in like two seconds on here, such as how to root it. I don't think you even bothered to read the top stickied threads. Once you're rooted you can remove all the Verizon stuff, switch to a ROM that has it removed, or use ROM cleaner to get rid of it in a Verizon based ROM.
