Solution to [email protected]:\# and get s-off - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

Just got S-OFF now on my HTC one XL Woohoo and excited that its gonna be my first development thread
Thats not a new idea but its a solution for those guys who having problem when they type "adb shell" and get screen displaying "[email protected]:\#" and they cant go further because of it and cant get their supercid.
U gonna need:
a) u need ROM Toolbox Lite to installed in your phone, if u have extra money , u can buy pro version but there is no need of it [play store link : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jrummy.liberty.toolbox&hl=en]
b) Phone has to be rooted (if your phone has SuperCID on already you can skip steps 1-3)
so:
1. Boot to recovery TWRP and go to the file manager and go to /dev/block/... copy mmcblk0p4 your sd-card
2. Copy mmcblk0p4 to your computer
3. Open the file (mmcblk0p4) with your hex editor.
4. Look for offset 00000210 (if your on RUU version 1.82 the offset may be 00000214) and you should see your cid number [mine was rogers001] with your IMEI number attached to it.
5. Change rogers001 [or whatever ur cid number is] to 11111111 and save the file as mmcblk0p4MOD. This will give you SuperCID as well. MAKE SURE AT THIS POINT THAT THE FILE IS THE EXACT SIZE IT WAS BEFORE YOU HEX EDITED IT!
6.Now, save that mmcblk0p4MOD file to your sdcard [not in any folder].
7. Now open ur ROM Toolbox Lite and go to open TERMINAL EMULATOR
8. Type adb shell and hit enter , its gonna give u no device found error but dont worry about it.
9. Then type "su" and hit enter again. This will put you back into the android shell and give you root privileges.
10. Type "dd if=/sdcard/mmcblk0p4MOD of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p4" and hit enter.
11. To test if it worked restart the phone into fastboot and once the bootloader screen comes up type "fastboot oem readcid" and hit enter. It should read "11111111".
12. Go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2155071 & Followed instructions 1-9 (Note- even my model id showed PJ8310000 but PJ8312000-OneX.zip works)
13. Should have S-OFF
That is what worked for my HTC One X Rogers!!!

I will try it soon. I have a Rogers as well and have been trying to s-off for months with no success.

good work!
but, how does this differ from the all in one toolkit or facepalm?

This isn't for s-off. Thus is to help people achieve supercid if they are having trouble with it.

I was trying to help you on another thread. Glad to see you figured out a solution.
But as this thread does not contain any original work that you developed, it will likely be removed from Development, and into General.

but thanx for your time

Maybe these guys have only recently gotten this phone. It's great that you got s-off early but this ain't a pissing contest.

I was helping the OP, and if I remember correctly, he just got the phone. Yes, carrier doesn't matter. But the error message he was getting in adb, I was not familiar with, and neither was another experienced "helper" here. He found a solution himself (which I applaud) and decided to post it here. So what is the issue with that? Aside from the fact this doesn't belong in Development (and I see its just been moved). There are also a significant number of people still coming here every day, asking about s-off.

I didn't say I had I problem with the information posted I was just curious why people from rogers couldn't achieve s-off sorry if you took offence to my post they were not ment to be rude or disrespectful
Sent from my HTC One XL using xda app-developers app

What Redpoint said. Plus, this is actually a solution to a problem during the SuperCID process, not the s-off process. Yeah all it usually takes is some research but that's irrelevant if you run into an issue that nobody has seen before (and therefore there is no published fix). That is exactly what this guide is addressing, and I too applaud the OP for finding a way around this unique problem and sharing it with the community.

I never said or implied you were being rude or disrespectful, so no need to apologize. People are allowed to disagree or discuss different viewpoints here.
It says right in the OP what his issue with getting s-off (actually SuperCID, as timmaaa clarified) was: he was getting the message "[email protected]:\#" from adb, and would not let him progress any further.
As timmaaa mentioned, not everyone encounters the same things when trying to mod their phones. I can name quite a few times on various devices, where I followed the XDA instructions to a tee, and something happened that wasn't "supposed" to (phone froze, had to pull battery, etc.).

Hello! I need some help here.Probably not the right place, sorry about that!
My problem is that I'm s-on,and it's seems that I can't do the supercid what is the first step for Facepalm process.
I red a lot about this topic, everything what I have found.
It appears that I got the hboot 2.15 version with Jb ota Update ,because of this the mmcblk0p4 file is write protected... so the cid overwrite is undone.
Tried on ViperOneS 1.2.1 - 2.2.0,on Tricktroid 7-9.1 and on Jb Stock also. The adb ,the termal emulaton on phone ,hex editing works well.

First of all, You should use search, as this topic (rooting) is covered very well in here.
Second thing is, that You should provide more info like - is bootloader locked? what's hboot version?
Few threads below we have helped a man with similiar problem, so maybe You should follow his steps.
See... You need to educate Yourself a bit more, so I strongly recommend reading all the 'stickies' first and doing some search.
It is too early for spoon feeding.
Good luck.

You know you aren't considering misc version and possible a goldcard right...?
And you also know you gave the link to the Desire RUU's which is a sure way for him to screw up his phone. Here's the thread you looking for.
So I say again, either downgrade (I can almost guarantee that his misc will be 2. something) or use HTCdev.

If you can't do good for someone, at least refrain from harming them. That bloody link takes you to the Desire (not Desire S) thread. Get your facts right before acting like a "know-it-all" and running amok mouthing nonsense around here. Your "guide" and "procedure" are crap, and will most likely end up screwing the poor OP's phone! Do you even know what Misc_version and CID checks are when installing an RUU? Do you know that the Desire S and the Desire are different devices entirely? C'mon man, i don't usually do this, but you make flaming look justified!

I have to say I completely agree, this is asked in these forums like 10+ times a day, not searching first is a little lazy
Anyway, as mentioned previously you need to unlock your bootloader at HTCDev and then use superoneclick and you'll root your phone. then use the search button to find how to install a custom rom. (I asked for help if you care to have a look in the Q&A and the lovely members were kind enough to give a very very easy to follow step by step instructions)

Then you either didn't make the card correctly or the memory card selected just didn't play nice. Goldcards are very good thing to keep for the average Joe who doesn't know if the phone is branded (or does know) or don't know what they are doing.

HTC ONE S - Unbranding process

Hi all,
I've got a HTC ONE S that has Vodafone (UK) branding on it but the phone is unlocked so it takes my Orange sim card. What's the best method to remove the Vodafone branding? I just want a generic handset.
Thanks in advanced.
Are you talking about the actual physical branding or the software branding?. A simple flash to a 3rd party Rom would "debrand" your device.

Thanks for that. I updated the phone to JB the other night so will these be compatible?
Also - I tried a ROM last night and it wasn't the right file type but I wiped my old OS. But as a guide told me to make a backup, I did and restored without any problems but lost SuperSU - Is this normal? Shall I just re-install?
Downloaded one but unsure how to install them as they're EXE files. What state does my phone need to be in? It also says

To:
Image Version:

I've tried locking my bootloader again it says 'RELOCKED' but still says TAMPERED
EDIT - In recovery screen also, it says at the top
***TAMPERED***
***UNLOCKED***
Is this normal?
I am getting no where with this and it's becoming very annoying!

All I want is my phone to be STOCK and it's taking me over 4 hours this morning to get no where!

Really strange that it says relocked/tampered and tampered/unlocked in recovery...
You might've gone wrong with the relocking of your phone, undoubtedly have you checked this out.
Can you tell me what you've ben trying so far?
And another thing: if you updated to JB, these RUUs might not work any longer since they are ICS mostly.
The best thing for you is to go by a custom ROM, it is at least the easiest thing to do now.
You can always fiddle around to restore to STOCK but as you've experienced yourself already, it isn't easy.
Here's a link to what I used when I bricked my phone, it might be of some help.

Error 131 means the RUU is incompatible with your CID. Do you know it? Not sure where to find cid specific RUU but searching XDA will always yield answers.
Lock phone, fastboot usb connect phone, find right RUU and open the .exe
Btw you htc drivers installed on you're pc right?

Read this article carefully. It will give you an insight in how difficult the process we're doing is:
http://www.xda-developers.com/android/facepalm-s-off-for-htc-one-s-one-xl-and-droid-dna/
You said you downloaded the latest OTA right? This article states that with the latest OTA update we are no longer able to SUPERCID the phone, meaning only CID-specific RUUs can be applied. I can't find any RUUs for your CID, so this might just be the end of the road for this plan.
So maybe installing a ROM similar to stock might be the only good solution for you.

Thanks for the information - I'll give this a read in a while. I've also looked into changing the CID of my phone, followed a couple of guides but they don't seem to work, they just crash my phone.
EDIT - So, basically I have to stick with the Vodafone branding on my ONE S unless I flash to a custom ROM?

Can you recommend me a good one to try? One that's as close to stock as possible that doesn't have any problems. This is my 3rd HTC device and the last 2 devices always had problems, hence why I wanted stock.
EDIT - Also, what steps do I need to take to get it back to before I rooted it? Completely factory before I installed anything.
Still getting nowhere.
I've even managed to change my CID to 11111111 from the Vodafone branded one using HEX editor. Still getting the same error's when I'm trying to install .ZIP and .EXE's when the bootloader is RELOCKED.
Could no one else shed some light on this for me please?
CID is now HTC__001 and still get the same error messages!
How hard can it be to remove a service providers software from a phone?
I would really appreciate someones help - I've tried pretty much all I can try!
Could I install an Android version lower than what I've got? I don't mind it not being JB as it's pretty much the same as ICS!

[Q] HTC ONE XL Hboot 2.15 superCID+s-off issues-please halp

hi guys, im not new to this, and i have a good understanding of adb and fastboot. i have just purchased a htc one xl (telstra) im running Hboot 2.15 and have unlocked bootloader via htc dev, installed TWRP ver; 2.6.0.0, rooted via flashing superSU and am currently running stock android ver 4.2.2 htc sense 5.0. i sim unlocked it so i could run my vodafone sim, and radio is working fine but i think the telstra RUU isnt allowing the sims internet conectis-on, therefore i am deciding to flash another rom. i first tried flashing pacman rom unsuccessfully but have yet to flash the boot.img as i havent got S-OFF and figure it wont allow writing to that partition yet, i have had alot of problems rewriting the CID for superCID, have tried many methods including xfactor and manually via fastboot and have been unsucessfull thus far, i understand that its not possible to downgrade Hboot unless S-off is achieved, alas facepalm is not possible unless superCID is achieved, and i cannot rewrite the CID manually or using any scripts i have found, is my Hboot version the problem or is there something im missing here?
help would be much appreciated
Have you tried the hex edit method?
Sent from my Evita
Yeah it returns with an error in adb, system mounted read only, and its deffinatly rooted so I'm not sure how to make system readwrite

It would seem there s no sure fire way around this. Unless someone can help me figure out the read only issue in adb using the hex edit method

hex edit progress
ok so i fixed the problem by uninstalling htcsync and re installing adb and fastboot via sdk tools, i got the file pulled from my phone and hex edited it, from cid; TELST001 to cid; 11111111 and pushed the file back onto my phone as per instructions, yet when i reboot into bootloader and do fastboot oem readcid it still comes back TELST001. somehow the phone knows what is happening and is changing the hex back to original form..??
ok scratch that, it actually never pulled the file from my phone, that was a file leftover from some script that didnt work, it had a cid of telus001 and my cid reads telst001 so i know that wasnt my file, the adb shell is able to read my phone but not ble to take the mmcblk0p4 file, so when i enter the command dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p4 of=/sdcard/mmcblk0p4 i get 2.0 records in 2.0 records out 1024 bytes transferred at <40960> bytes. so im guessing it was successful, yet when i check my sd root the file is nowhere to be seen!? where am i going wrong here
I just remembered someone had posted a different method, try this one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2460148
Sent from my Evita
argh
O..K so i rebooted the one xl ad the file was there, i copied to desktop, hex edited, and did dd if=/sdcard/mmcblk0p4 of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p4 to push the file back. read as successful in adb, so i did reboot fastboot and fastboot oem readcid, CID READS TELST001 STILL i must be retarded or something

i even tried doing echo -ne "22222222" | dd of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p5 bs=1 seek=20

is it possible that my cid is stored somewhere other than mmcblk0p4 or mmcblk0p5??
You might be stuck in the same situation that at&t users were in after taking the 3.18 update. Basically the system partition is read only, so temp root was needed to get SuperCID in order to unlock their bootloader. The only difference being that you can unlock your bootloader just fine but can't get SuperCID in order to get s-off. I'm not sure on this, just spitballing ideas.

sounds about right, i did read about this. so im guessing because i used temp root to spoof cid and unlock bootloader using the unlock code from that process, that there is no way to 'officially' relock the bootloader, and start the whole process again using a different method, say for instance using adb.. and thus getting bootlocker unlocked without spoofed cid and temp root possibly resulting in the ability to obtain supercid and full root? i have got supersu flashed through recovery.. but yeah obviously having serious issues with supercid atm.. thanks so much for your help this far man came a long way this arvo, just cant see the light at the ed of the tunnel... its like if i was able to flash Hboot i may be able to get around, but that requires s-off, which reuires super cid, which requires different Hboot lol
you wouldnt happen to know anyone else that might be able to brainstorm on this would you? although from looking at the threads youve made, it seems your possibly THE most educated person on this matter... idk might just have to wait for a dev to look into this and find a loophole. im not that good unfortunately. again, thanks for your help man. if you do get any ideas dont hesitate to post em up on this thread. cheers.
I'm definitely not the most educated person in this kinda stuff, I just read a lot on here and remember the ins and outs of this device. Finding a loophole around this is something that the HTC experts would have to work on, people like beaups, jcase, those kinda guys. Like I said though I'm not even sure if what I said is what's stopping you, I could be completely wrong.
Sent from my Evita
well, ive had one thaught that might be a stupid one but possibly one of the only things i am yet to try.. if i go through with the s-off and see if it works, although my phone is reading cid it may actually have supercid because like i say, its been successful in adb just hasnt returned a supercid through the fastboot commands, i guess the only question is will i brick my device if i follow through with s-off when i dont have supercid or will it just fail and all will be gravy
is there anyway to get them in on this thread so they know where im up to, or would i have to PM them exclusively and explain all over again
btw i think your right, system is read only. thats why the pushes arent working, even though they say they are in adb, either that or the phones cid and the RUU's cid are different and fastboot oem readcid is reading softwares cid and not the phones cid?
either way im going to drink a beer and go outside for a while, thanks again timmaaa, i didnt expect anyone to reply to this thread for a good while. like i said if u happen to have contact with the devs or anyone else that might be able to help, id be stoked. cheers bro and peace out!
You can try SuperCID but it just won't work. You can try contacting them and pointing them to this thread, but I think they're pretty busy guys so I don't know if they'll be able to help. The CID that shows up when using the fastboot command is definitely the phone CID and not the software CID.

[Q] HTC One X Need RUU (Cant Find CID AT ALL/11111111) Need Stock!

Hello everybody! I need help urgent! I have my AT&T HTC One X (XL according to my "Settings" "Model Number" and I need to restore back to stock. I'll list everything that is wrong, I need help with, and more settings on my device. MAINLY, IF ANYBODY CAN AT LEAST HELP ME TO FIND MY CID AS SOON AS POSSIBLE, THAT'S ALL I NEED AS FAR AS I KNOW RIGHT NOW.
My Device Settings:
1. Android Version: 4.1.1
2. I did successfully flash to "MIUI-3.8.9" using "Hasoon2000's HTC One X (Evita) All-In-One Toolkit" for most of this.
3. HBOOT/Bootloader:
*** TAMPERED ***
***RELOCKED ***
EVITA PVT SHIP S-OFF RL
CID-11111111
HBOOT-2.14.0000
RADIO-0.24p.32.09.06
4. RECOVERY:
ClockworkMod Recovery v6.0.3.1
Notes:
1. I looked at the video on youtube, "TUTORIAL: HTC One X stock ROM update: 4.1.1 to 4.2.2 (via CWM)" using CWM (same version) but kept getting status error 0 no matter whether odexed or deodexed.
2. I tried using fastboot options I saw on other posts on this website to find your stock CID, but it still showed 11111111.
3. I used "Hasoons200's Toolkit" to SuperCID to 11111111.
4. "Xfactor" on the toolkit to exploit the device's CID.
Help With:
1. To at least get/find out a way to find out my TRUE STOCK CID as quick as possible.
2. To find the RUU used for this device.
I truly thank all of you for your help!
If your phone is an at&t model the original CID is CWS__001. Your CID doesn't actually matter anyway because you're s-off, you can run any Evita RUU without any problems regardless of your CID. The reason fastboot commands were showing your CID as 11111111 is because your CID is 11111111, that's because SuperCID overwrites the original CID.
There's nothing at all "wrong" with your device. I think you're extremely confused. I'm not sure why you've been trying all those toolkits, those give you SuperCID, they don't reverse it. You seem to lack a basic understanding of this device, modifying it, and what you can and can't do with it. Why exactly do you want to return to stock? I can tell you exactly how to do it but I'd like to know why first.

Yeah I do have AT&T. Also, yes, I'm pretty new at rooting and such, but I am still learning
I forgot to add this in the post, will edit it in, that I am using "MIUI" like said, and I decided I wanted to get another rom. I tried to get "Paranoid Android", latest version, boot-loader both unlocked and locked, and TWRP and CWM recovery. It came up with status 0 (having to do with the update-binary) but luckily I made a nandroid backup. The device is still working from the nandroid backup, but I will probably use the CID (CWS__001) to get the stock RUU endeavor, then flash.
Eh.. You have an evita, not endeavor. If you flash endeavor stuff you will likely brick.

The installer for Paranoid Android probably failed because the ROM wasn't meant for this phone, you got lucky it didn't brick you. You have the Evita, not the Endeavoru, I'm not sure where you're downloading your ROMs from but it's the wrong place. You have s-off so you can run any Evita RUU that you want, your CID doesn't matter when you have s-off. Go to androidruu.com and get one from there, just make sure it's from the Evita section. I still have no idea why you want to RUU though, you said you just want to change ROMs, an RUU will return your phone to being completely stock.

I can't believe this! It turns out, it's bricked I think! I tried to restore from a nandroid backup I got off the internet, not sure whether it was evita or not, WAS ON THIS WEBSITE (XDA), and not it won't boot. The screen is on, but it shows the white screen HTC logo with red letters under it, and made a low buh-buh sound when in USB. I cant find a way to enter boot-loader or recovery (computer cant detect it) but it does show the solid red light at the top. Please, even if it involves downloading a ton of computer applications, I'm willing to.
I can believe it. Why the hell did you restore a nandroid if you're not even sure if it was for Evita? Have you not listened to a word we've been saying to you? I'm not sure why I bothered trying to help you if you're ignoring the advice I'm giving. Your phone isn't bricked, if it turns on it isn't bricked. Do some research and figure out how to recover.

As if by magic, it appears in the One XL forum.
I think your friend is telling fibs, phones don't just magically stop booting for no reason. Please tell him to own up to whatever activities lead to this situation, as embarrassing as it might be, I need to know how this happened in order to help properly.
Now, just to be clear, the phone is actually the HTC One XL, not the HTC One X. They look similar but are actually very different. What recovery is installed on the device?
Another question for you, why isn't your friend posting here and attempting to fix this problem himself? If he can't recover from a simple problem like this (or can't be bothered learning/trying) he honestly has no place having a modified phone. That might sound harsh but it's the truth, this is very basic knowledge, it's flashing 101. Knowing how to recover from something like this is an essential skill for anyone who owns a modified phone. If your friend isn't interested in being honest about what lead to this situation, or interested in learning how to recover from this situation, my only advice is to return to the device to stock and leave it that way. I'd strongly urge him to get on here and post himself, and do some reading to educate himself on the ins and outs of modified devices.

sorry for being so vauge
My friend is a lady friend who had no idea how the phone could have become modified. The phone is a HTC one X and my lady friend said she would love nothing more then to have a stock phone. My friend has no intrest in leaning how the in's and out's of HTC but, I on the other hand would love to learn about HTC and Android. I come from a n Apple community and have a little knowledge but not a lot.
Anything you can tell me would help greatly, and I would be indeed greatful.
Sincerely Nanamkin
The only option for you is to return the phone to stock, giving a modified device to someone who knows nothing about them and doesn't even want a modified device is a bad idea. I'll just reiterate though, it isn't a HTC One X, it's the One XL. Is it an at&t model? Can you please retrieve the software version from Settings/About Phone? Ok. To get the phone back to stock you Erik need to run an RUU, but in order to do that safely you'll first need to get s-off. To get s-off you're gonna need a booting ROM on the device. Purely for this exercise I think Kickdroid would be your best option, head to our Android Development section and find the Kickdroid thread, download it, and use TWRP recovery to install it. Look in the How-To Guide For Beginners thread in my signature for full instructions on how to flash the ROM. Please note, you'll also need to flash the boot.img from the ROM zip via fastboot after flashing the ROM.

I thought you said you had the ROM on your phone? Did you just mean the zip? If so, go to the How-To thread in my signature and follow the instructions to install the ROM and flash the boot.img. Then you can go back to the Facepalm thread. Just make sure you boot up the phone and set it up before doing the s-off process.
