[Q] Disable power button - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

My power button has become very touchy. I was wondering if there is a way I can disable it and use the volume or home key. Phone is rooted and running CM 10.2.

No idea if it's even possible, but I can tell you that this is a known hardware problem, or at least it is according to the guys at Geek Squad. My phone started doing the same last night. If you have some form of insurance, I would just suggest flashing to stock and using it. Better to have a working phone instead of making something work in my opinion.

[Q] vol + button not working.

hello, I have an HTC inspire 4g on art network. the volume up button will work for a few days and then stop working. I will have to go into the settings to turn the volume up. I have had this prob as long as I can remember. I have tried even flashing a custom Rom and the vol button worked for a few days and now back to not working again. was wondering if any one else has had thus same problem or not. thinking about flashing back to stock Rom and locking it back and going threw HTC to maybe get it fixed but that is last resort. any insight to this problem would be great.

Volume rockers seem to be kinda delicate. Many people in this forums have experienced that. If you still can take it for service do it. No volume rocker might be an important issue with a rooted phone.

Volume Up Unresponsive

I know there are tons of complaints about the Inspire/Desire's volume rocker, but through all my searching I've only found a couple of people with my problem, and no solutions.
When I press my volume up button, it clicks, but nothing happens. It started with CM7 and I have since changed ROMs (specifically LorD ClockaN's ICS ROM that shows a volume slider when you put the volume down ) so I know that isn't the problem. Pretty sure it's hardware related. The furthest I've opened this thing up is taking the volume rocker off, so I don't know if there are any internal problems or what to look for. The little nubs on the buttons are still there and there is a satisfying click sound when I press up or down.
I've seen a lot of mention of "flex cables" but I can't find anything that really tells you what that is.
What can I do to fix this? I'd love to not be restricted to one ROM AND it's really annoying that I can't flash radios or anything without using fastboot since you have to press up to confirm. :/

You could flash 4EXT Touch Recovery. Touch recovery is nice. You just may have to flash/push it using adb.
Are you still under warranty? I've heard some people have issues before with the volume rocker, but very few. Wish I could help ya there.

it can be fixed but you have to replace the entire button assembly, should be able to find the part on google (i dont know the part number) and there are plenty of tutorials. Personally i would try the warranty route first as a lot of things can get damaged if repaired incorrectly or if you are not experienced in this.
Called HTC and they said I have 4 days left on my warranty and that it would take 2 to 3 weeks to get my phone back. Holy crap. I can't even imagine a day without my phone.

Volume rocker wake up for rooted AT&T version?

I've done some searching and I've seen some rooted options for waking up the international HTC one X without using the power button, but I was wondering if there were any available for the AT&T version?? I've seen some different apps in the app store that attempt to wake up the phone without using the power button, but I haven't had too much success with them. Any help would be appreciated.

Viper and a few other roms allow this HOWEVER it does not work once the phone goes into deep sleep. For example, I can turn my screen off, and turn it on again about 30-60 with the volume keys but much longer than that and it won't work. It's going to be this way until (if/when) kernel source is released.

Galaxy S3 power button not working..what do I do?

Hey all..
I have a problem. My power button has stopped working at all on my Verizon S3. Earlier this week, it was being very finicky, eg it would randomly be registering clicks when it wasn't being pressed. Now, however, it isn't responding whatsoever.
Obviously I'm terrified to shut down the device, but before I make a warranty claim I'll need to do an ODIN restore to stock (I am currently running CyanogenMod 10.2). How can I do this without having to use the power button at some point?
Thanks in advance!

Mobile Odin would work. You might not be able to verify it worked after the install though.
Search for topics in this section, there's a lot of topics on this already and good suggestions on it.

Well my power button managed to back alive long enough for me to Triangle Away and ODIN. Thanks guys.

Power button magically stopped working

Out of nowhere my power button magically no longer works. Kind of a huge deal since I use my phone for work a TON. At first I thought it was the ROM but then I rebooted into recovery and discovered it doesn't work in there either...... but by some sort of miracle though my phone magically boots itself up when I swap batteries in it....
I am rooted and running Beans 20.
Any help/ideas would be greatly appreciated!!

You can get an app called button savior from Google play that allows you to create on screen keys to turn off your screen.
Various xposed modules allow you to remap your physical keys. If you don't know about the xposed framework I highly suggest looking into it.
Furthermore I believe some custom roms have key mapping built in.

Yes I already got an app that will shut my screen off and lock it but what happens when my phone stops magically booting up all by itself??
Then I'm screwed.

My power button just started malfunctioning too. I'm on Odin barebones 4.1.2 stock and the problem persists.
It sounds like a lot of people are getting this problem. If you use that knowledge to your advantage, I've heard people convince Samsung it's a manufacturing problem and got it repaired outside of Warranty. The power button itself is sautered onto the motherboard, so unless you really trust a mobile repair company, best option is work directly with Samsung.
That being said, I'm going to look for an Xposed Framework module that can remap the power button.
I looked for one, didn't really find what I was looking for... selling mine on ebay now to pay for my new phone...

Wow. My power button just stopped working also.
My phone is stock.
I did replace the glass myself a couple months ago and it's been working fine until about a week ago. Was wondering if that had anything to do with it.
Interesting to see I'm not the only one having issues.
Kind of timely now that the S5 is coming out this week.

This is happening to a lot of people. I'm sure the s4 will start having this problem followed by the s5 after a year and some months. Im done with samsung phones until they start using different parts. Actually thinking about the next nexus phone and hack a msata drive into it with a custom vacume formed case. The only reason I haven't owned one is because of the storage limitation. I think a 200+ gigabyte msata strapped to the back would fix that problem.

Hey guys, mine originally starting messing up on Saturday, and then Sat night and all day Sun is was fine, and now it is doing it again. I even installed a new rom and it is still doing it so now I am convinced it is purely physical and not rom-related. What are you guys going to do?
I have the Wireless Phone Protection for my phone and am thinking about using that to my advantage to get a new device....question is I've never done it before. If I say I have a physical problem with my phone then won't Verizon want it returned? That will make me have to unroot it and bring it back to out of box state which is a big headache. What if I just say I lost it or it got stolen? Am I better off going that route?
EDIT: Also forgot to mention that along with these power button issues my S3 also will not reboot on its own. If I select Reboot (be it from the power button menu, notification pulldown, etc) it will just shut off and not reboot.....but if I yank the battery and put it back in it will then reboot to recovery. Same deal if I do a normal reboot, haven to yank and replace battery. You guys having these issues too?
So a couple of days ago my power button started acting wonkie as well. I would push it and it basically acted sticky. I would push once but it would register twice or as a long press. Either turning the screen on and off or bring up the reboot menu. So I did the xposed button remapping. Worked pretty well, but if I restarted the phone it would do a weird haptic feedback thing every couple of seconds before finally booting up.
So I wasn't satisfied with just living with it being a hardware issue. So I downloaded latest cleanrom to flash from cm11. I rebooted recovery and now it just vibrates every couple of seconds. Would not make it to twrp. It will get to cm Samsung boot screen but then just goes back to vibrating black screen. I took out battery and popped out power button but same results.
Any suggestions? Think power button can be fixed by repair shop or is it time to go back to my trusty droid incredible until I can upgrade.

It can be fixed. There is also a way of temporarily making the power button work but I don't feel like explaining it again. If you do some searching there are at least 20 threads that have the temp fix in it.
