No <3 for Windows 8 - Thunderbolt General

I was given an HTC Thunderbolt from a friend. She's finally just gotten tired of the Sense BS and how screwed up this phone is as it comes from the manufacturer. I figured, being the tech savvy fellow I am, that I'd root it, unlock the bootloader and install a custom ROM, probably Cyanogenmod as I love their work. .....no dice. I have Windows 8 on a laptop that was given to me by my wife after my Linux machine went to the big computer shop in the sky. After hours of fruitless searches and downloads I broke down and called HTC. What do they tell me? There isn't a driver out there to make Win8 recognize my device. I tried HTC Sync, PDA Net and a million other options.....no dice. I've searched these forums inside and out, I know the rules, I abide by them to the T. But still, no dice. SO I ask the question that I can't seem to find an answer to, has anyone had any luck getting their Thunderbolt recognized in Win8? If so please tell me how.:good:

Your best bet would be to install Windows 7 or use a friend's computer.

AWESOME Idea!....tried it, between HP's Legacy bullcrap and so on I haven't had much luck, I was thinking maybe a VM?

Windows 8 should be able to use the windows 7 drivers for your phone. Should....

My guess is you do not have the proper usb cable with the data pin in it.
Seeing how you got it second hand, that's my guess as I don't know what cable you have and you didn't mention trying several.
May wanna see about picking one up to eliminate that as the issue, if you haven't explored this already.

So I tried and tried everything with this thunderbolt. Finally I gave up on Windows 8, which I think Windows has too, and dug out my daughters Acer Aspire One and installed Windows 7. Wouldn't ya know it, all went well. Actually all went well with Windows 8 but I must have gotten a bad download when I obtained the RUU to downgrade to Gingerbread. Or maybe it was an operator error, around here there seems to be quite a few. Anyway, I am rooted with S-OFF so let the Flashing commence. I'm gonna look for a CM10 rom, wish me luck. Thank to all that helped, especially the fella who told me to switch cords, always a good idea when having problems.

Good luck finding cm10.2 that has working data...

Oh I'm well aware. I got the Droid 3 as a "you can't root and hack this phone" kinda thing from an inexperienced Aunt. Its rooted and running ICS. I don't use a phone plan so I don't care about data or mms or anything like that. I would just LOVE to get an EVO again.

Your a funny guy BRO that would might work but I cant get any of my PCs to recognize my phone so Im not rooted.Thats why Im looking for a good trust worthy pay site to order one thanks for ya help though
Have you already downloaded the SG4G drivers on all of your PCs? It would be odd that not even one of them worked. You're best bet to getting your phone unlocked, other than from at home, is to call T-mobile and ask them for the code. I heard they will be hesitant to give it to you if you haven't owned the phone for at least 3 months though.
As for myself, I don't know any sites that do this, sorry.
Yes Ive tried drivers some reason nothing works I must be getting the wrong drivers I dont get it.
Try uninstalling the drivers, reinstalling them, then rebooting your phone and PC.

I ended up finding a unlocker the guys actually called me to make sure what phone I had now Im running with AT&T go phone.I left tmobile because of the service was just awful in the area that I had to move to.Now I can make calls and text with full bars.
I really want to get this phone rooted so I can try out some roms.I sure miss the G2x was fun testing all the different ones it had
you have to buy a new USB plug! My original cable got hosed (dropped it in a parking lot...D'oh!) and I bought a new T-Mobile branded one from the T-Mobile store. Was $14 or so, which I felt was robbery, but it works like a champ. I've had no problems flashing ROMs or anything with it.
I just looked the cord over man Im dumb and feel really stupid right now lol Its a LG cord. They say when you hit 40 ya go blind

It's official...we are not getting ICS :(

Kinda figured this would happen. Now if HTC was a decent company they would still release their source...but we all know they wont.

I never really expected this to happen after observing all the work from the devs on it. ICS has always ran kinda wishy washy for me. I mean it works and all, but there are definitely some performance issues and bugs no matter which rom you use. Verizon nor HTC intends to release a shoddy product. It either has to work 100% or not at all. If ICS cant run as well as GB did, then it aint gonna happen.
I wish I had a dollar for all the false rumors that have been posted about ICS, I'd buy Verizon and have enough left over to keep me in booze and hookers for the rest of my life!
I think this is one more dollar in my stash....

If that were the case though, the thunderbolt would've ran well from launch day, which anyone who had one since then will say that it didn't. Originally the battery life was horrendous and had to be fixed by an OTA.

NO ICS
just called HTC ,,, and they told me , that we are not getting ics,,, htc thunderbolt is discontinued,,,, :crying:

We could call and email different reps at HTC and we would get a slew of different responses from them all. Stuff like this no one will know the correct answer as tech support as we all know is the last to know.
Sent from my ThunderBolt using Tapatalk 2
So let's see if I understand this... the OFFICIAL WORD from Verizon AND from HTC is that the Thunderbolt will or will not get ICS and will get it within the next two days or later than that or never.
Does that about cover it? <G>
Honestly, I don't see what all the flap is about? ICS doesn't offer anything I need or want other than (I HOPE!) a better kernel for the Devs to work with.
Meanwhile, NuSense works for me and the BAMF leak works for me if I want ICS and, if I want Gingerbread, Infected ROM works for me and Thunderstick BB works for me along with a bunch of other ROMs I've tried.
Was at Verizon today, Reps informed me there will be no ICS for our phones...Cant say I'm surprised...my upgrade is in January, not going to worry about it .. Can't believe they state we would get the upgrade, then renege ..
If Apple can upgrade their older model Iphones for several years , why can' t our Android phones do the same.. and no I'm not switching..

Looks great but I wouldn't count on running that on a thunderbolt....ever.
They've tried this before with Ubuntu for Android. It never got off the ground. They intended on dual booting Ubuntu on dual core gingerbread class phones but it never happened. There was supposed to be a dock that your phone went into and booted Linux on a monitor so it was like having a phone and computer at the same time. I like the idea of having full Linux support though. It will be interesting to see if calling through Ubuntu will be supported.

I don't think it's worth it. The old one looks way more organised and simple. I won't even bother installing the new Store's .apk
Well that's my opinion, you may like it better
Mine just installed automatically when I connected to the wifi.
solution
You have to go to services and clean the cache on the market processes. I had to do that with my droid x a long time ago.
Sometimes it just takes a while. On my phone once, I cleared it and force stopped it several times and it didn't update until a couple hours later.

I believe the new one looks hideous, the old one is way better. But of course, we will get used to it in the future (do we have any other choice?).
Anyway, to answer the thread, it depends on the country you are in. Usually, they update per country (if it is available to you).
