[Q] how to set up element 53 and proxy droid - General Questions and Answers

Hope this is in the right section, if not I apologize.
So I just downloaded element 53 and proxy droid from google play, and found the post on xda on how to set it up to get around captive portal's. My question is, how do I make it so I have internet access to my other apps? Such as heywire texting, or facebook messenger? I couldn't find anything about this on xda or google or the developers website, but it DOES have an option for this on proxy droid. Can anyone point me in the direction of where I can find this info, or walk me through it a little bit? Thank you.

Hi Sinndiessension,
When you are running Proxydroid all the traffic goes through Proxydroid. Have you already read this post: XDA Thread of Element53. If you need any other help, don't mind to ask me. Quitting and restarting Facebook or Internet could solve the problem to.
Sander

Yes I've seen that link already. I followed the direction's in that link to set up element53 and proxy droid. The only website I can go to is "Bing.com" I can't go to google.com, when I try to send a message through facebook, or any texting app, they never send.
The logs on element53 say, "client connection from 127.0.0.1:35341, channel=44"
Then the next log is similar, "client connection from 127.0.0.1:35342, channel=45"
I know the proxy droid, and element53 has worked for a lot of people. And I followed your direction's thoroughly on that link to set them up, but for some reason no matter what I do, it will keep giving me those logs until there's a small pop up that says, "element53 reset" and it stops doing anything, or until my messages say sending failed. Anything I can do to fix this? Thanks.

Can you give me some screenshots of your logs? And what kind of network are you using and what are the results when you are using this app in your own wifi network?
Sander

Element 53 proxydroid failed to connect
I tried and followed instruction. but still no success on Element53 and proxydroid. Any help would be appreciated thank you very much.

I have no Internet, too. Is it possible to set up the server on a raspberry pi?

Please how do I access menu on element 53 lite

Tethering Via WIFI & Videochat

Guys,
First of all I want to thank all of you for all of your hard work accomplishing TRUE TETHERING on the G1. It works flawlessly. THANKS!!! You guys are geniuses!!!
I have a question to ask with using tether-1.6.tar
Most of my programs I have that require internet access work all for one stinking video chat program I always use to chat with my family while I'm away on work assignment. It's a program called ISPQ. I can log into the program, and it pulls up the directories with all of the users signed in, and I can send quick messages, but when someone sends me a message the picture field is blank and in the directory when you click on a persons name to see their profile the picture area is blank as well. On their website it shows what ports you need opened for the program to run successfully as I'll post them down below. When I used to Tether with my TMO DASH the program always worked so I'm sure there is a way to get it working using the G1 tethered as well.
Thanks again,
Anthony

as far as i know, i dont think their is a firewall on the phone it should already be opened. I have connected to my sling box which is some random port and it worked sucessfully.

Thanks for your response. Strange when I run the built in network utility in that program it DOES say it's detecting a firewall when there isn't. Probably a quick uninstall/re-install of the program should get it working properly. Everything else other then that single program works great. Streaming live video and audio works flawlessly as well. Amazing how this is true tethering and it blows the doors off of Tetherbot.
The people who got this all going are like god to me.
Yes! I also tether with this method, and it works flawlessly, I get 135KBpps down. And 85KBps up on edge, and on 3G I get around 900KBps down and 240ish up. It's funny though, after running a speedtest, it said my phone was located in kansas when I'm actually in cali, maybe its a ip address location error. But back to your situation, I haven't had any issues with ports on of the programs that required specific ports to function. =)
The location is correct, T-Mobile sends all their info through a proxy in kansas or some place back east, and that is why our speeds are sometimes slow.

Neoobs, Would that be the case in the Philadelphia area as well? I'm asking of this because if Tmo sends all of their info through proxy in this area as well, that's the reason why my videochat program isn't working properly (laptop/G1 Tethered).
Strange is that when I hook up my old Tmo Dash and tether it, ispq works fine but it's terribly slow running on Edge.
3G gets sent to a different proxy but both are sent through proxies.
I know there are some ways around it just not able to get the info right now as I am AFH

I searched and searched with no results. There has to be a way around this. If I can video chat with the Dash Tethered to my lappy, there for sure has to be a way on the G1.
Neoobs,
Any word or source of a way around the 3g proxy/videochat with my post?
Thanks again......
Since TMO's 3g/edge connection goes through a proxy at the main how could I find out what Proxy IP and Port it is? In the program there is an option to log in through proxy so I guess I would need to know what's the proxy address they use for 3G in my area. Anyway I could find out?
It isn't like a software proxy, it is a hardware proxy, there is no info you can put in to get around it really. I will test this and see.
I can't find the info on how to get around it but I know I did because I was running programs (torrents) that were saying I was fully connected and even had someone remote into my PC while I was on it (was a friend) so nothing should be blocking it. BTW I was using openDNS servers maybe that is what helped.

Open DNS Servers? Where would I add the values and what would they be? something like 4.2.2.1, 4.2.2.2?

I'm about to beg you to download ISPQ and set it up (via Wifi Tether) and see exactly what I'm talking about. lol It's actually a pretty cool program and it's a free 21 day trial.
I will download it and get back to you in 24 hours.
Thank you so much!!!!
It all works fine for me, lets me log in and see others. What is the problem exactly?
Thanks for trying it out. I can log in but I can't see the user profile pictures in the directory and also when I receive a qm from someone the picture area is blank. All I can see is the text they sent in the message, not the picture..
Can you run the network diagnostic test in the programs options? Doesn't work here.
Can you see the users in the directories profile pictures and if someone qmed you, you can see their image along with the text?
I can see the users listed in the directories but no pictures of the users and the qms, I can read the text in the qm, just can't see the users image. Funny part of it all is I can successfully video chat in there and I can see the users video while video chatting. Your help with this is very appreciated. You can private me your response if you may.
Thanks again..

greatly appreciated
Backtrack is unbuntu based for pc, sorry for the confusion. But it does all that fun stuff you can do with packets. Unbuntu was successfully loaded to the droid, but never hear of anyone getting the, "network tools" to work.
What exactly are you trying to capture?
Sometimes I see my 3g light up and I would like to be able to see what I'm transmitting and where

Would have to be a App that runs off a dns server somewhere. Would find the ip address your phone is getting data from and spit out a http address for you.
Market search for "dns" shows lots of tools, Happy Downloading!

I wrote an app to control my phone through google talk

Hey guys!
I developed TalkMyPhone, an open-source app that enables you to control your phone from google talk. It's like android-notifier on steroids, since it brings almost the same features and you don't need wifi/bluetooth enabled.
I can't post links since I'm new here. Google for talkmyphone or look for it on the market.
Developers: I'm open to contributions
Users: please use the issue tracker for suggesting features
I don't have many non-french users since the info did not spread very well outside of french blogs, so I'm posting it here. I hope someone will find it useful and write something about it.

Do you need multiple GTalk accounts in order to talk to it, or can you "talk to yourself" ?
Niice Idea

The 2 solutions work. Talking to yourself is possible in gmail, but you cannot initiate the conversation, so in this case, best is to use a third party client like pidgin. Otherwise you can set up a second account. Any standard jabber account is possible.
Accounts delivered at jabber.org are *very* easy to get. You don't need to give your email address, you don't need to sign an agreement. You just have to fill a captcha to prove you're human.

Weird. Some unlucky people experiment bugs like this one. I don't know where this comes from, and I try to improve the code. It works 100% of the time for me, so all I can do is look at 'adb logcat' traces users leave on the bugtracker. If you wish to do so, it might improve your chances to see this fixed
giving it a shot
you may try changing your preferences.xml to the attached (just because of english, just change .zip to .xml)
i have to find the other file, because i noticed some other grammatical things. no worries tho
and, 'additional settings', in the xml has too many 'n's, lol

Pretty Neat
I was able to go on Google Talk on my PC and send messages to my phone. The copy:text feature I can definitely see myself using so that I don't have to type long URLs in the browser. The other functions seem like they would be nice if you lost your phone or if it was stolen. Overall a pretty neat app! Thanks!

Virtuous Rom 2.7
So I have the app running and logged in. (Phone is logged into [email protected])
On my PC I have [email protected]. I message from PC to phone (John to Paul) and nothing happens.
I tried "where" "ring" etc, but the app doesn't respond. What am I doing wrong?
What next...
When you start the app on the phone, make sure you input your google information and then start the app. If you have Google Talk up on your PC, it should pop up a window for you to type commands into (talk to/control your phone). It did for me anyway. Type a "?" to get a list of the commands...

Hmm, I did all this. Let me see where the issue is:
My phone's Google account is set to [email protected].
I put in [email protected] and my password into TalkMyPhone.
I start up TalkMyPhone and it logs in -- successfully.
I go to my PC and log into gmail on [email protected].
I message from my PC ([email protected]) to my phone ([email protected]).
I get the message but nothing happens with TalkMyPhone.
Can you tell me where the issue is?
i entered in all of my information too and nothing seems to work, the app says loging in .. then that its successful. but then nothing can be done from there.
i cant even log in
i always get the message: "login failed" and then "stopping service"
i tried setting it on "use the phones account settings"
then i turned that off, and manually put in my gmail-settings - still didnt work
Same issues over here... Got it all connected, reciving messages from the phone works fine, too (welcome, battery, incomming callings) but sending commands doesn't work for me.
Got a HTC Magic/Sapphire with CM6 (2.2) running on it.
I had the same problem. I changed the GTalk Port to 5222 and entered my ****@googlemail.com instead of ****@gmail.com
Works perfect on my HD2 (Android ) Thank you!
When I log in on phone i get this gTalk message on my pc from my own account:
Welcome to TalkMyPhone. Send "?" for getting help
Battery level 78%
Works just perfect...

do i need to have the real gtalk installed on my computer?
doesnt applications like trillian for windows work?
I tried Pidgin and it works but I use the GMail-Chat because it's my info hub
Anyways, great work chm.duquesne, this is a really great application.
Now there just needs to be a way in GTalk to turn off the chat notification in Android for a single contact
// Edit
The "where" feature is really awesome, mate.
Nothing serious but the reply feature does not work for me. When I received a SMS and I type "reply:This is my reply" it answers "No match for "+491234567890" (the number being the correct number, of course).

Is it possible to get some kind of ping button on the phone, that opens the conversation window on the pc? I cannot figure out how to open a conversation with myself in gTalk.

Will Google dns speed up internet?

Saw this linked to on Facebook. Wondering if its true.
http://htcdev.net/topic/229295-download-flashable-google-dns-zip/
Can anyone verify this is safe and works. Thanks
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
DNS won't give you faster internet per se, if your phone gets the ip address of the website it's requesting back faster than your phone can start downloading the page maybe some miliseconds sooner, but that'd be the only benefit....
can anyone attach the zip here?
Don't have an facebook acc .-.

Trying to play Mario Kart 7 online

I searched the forums and found nothing, but if there is already a thread for this please post a link to it. I was attempting to play Mario Kart 7 online, and kept coming up with error messages. I looked online and found that I was supposed to activate something called DMZ and add my 3ds's IP address. However, I use my phone (Nexus 5 on Sprint) as a hotspot for my 3DS, and I can't access the router settings by entering my IP address; I get a message like "Oops! Google Chrome could not connect to bla.bla.bla.bla" is there any way I can make this work? I'll provide any more information if it's needed.
I just thought I would mention that I'm running Cyanogenmod 11 snapshot M5.
I'd like to do that too, but it sounds like its not doable on your phone for now. Does anyone else know?

It's browser related.
To try, I installed AOSP brrowser and checked "install CM browser" during installation.
Then, I was able to view/login to my router config page
did not work with
Opera mini,
Chrome
Puffin

Of course you can't access your "router settings", the Nexus 5 isn't a router..?
