first scratch and spigen nano glas - Galaxy S 4 Accessories

so i was using a spigen glas tr slim which is 0.4mm thick and it was good but would lift up sometimes on close form fitting cases like the seidio kickstand one. so after a few months i took it off and about 2 weeks of naked screen i get my first SCRATCH! it's not huge but it's deep my fingernail gets caught on it if i run it across. it happened when i was playing tennis on clay courts and left my phone in my tennis bag i guess some sand debris got in there and voila.
so i ordered a new spigen glas nano and this thing is ridiculously thin 0.15mm i can't even tell it's on. so far no lifting up with cases and i feel much better now with this protection.
anyways just wanted to share, the gorilla glass 3 is FAR from scratchproof. get some kind of screen protector or you will regret it after your first scratch

This is why I always think it's silly to not have a screen protector. Even if 99.9% of the time the Gorilla glass is strong enough, what about that 0.01% of the time? I also have a spigen nano and I really can't tell it's there other than the edges around the ear-piece. With screen protectors like this, there really is no reason to not throw one on just in case of the 0.01% of the time.

Which Spigen Glas would you recommend? The tR (which I'm about to buy with the Neo Hybrid case) or the Slim Nano which is slimmer. I really want mine to be as close to naked as possible while having some protection. I'm not one to drop things and while I prefer holsters to throwing a phone in my pocket, I can at least tolerate this setup. Sorry to hear about that scratch though. No matter how small it may be, it's gotta kill because you'll always no it's there. At least you get to upgrade soon with one of this quick upgrade plans lol.

Ordered the Red Neo Hybrid and an extra Satin Silver bumper as well as the Glas nano .15 screen protector on Amazon Thanks to your info. It's pretty cool since Amazon is selling the Neo Hybrid for 15 bucks (except the Satin Silver which is 20) and I got free 2-day shipping. Love the guys at XDA. Thanks Colonel!

Diztronic vs i-Blason vs Cimo TPU cases

Let me start by saying the Diztronic TPU is amazing and absolutely perfect in every way, except one. The top and bottom chrome bezel are getting scratched by the sharp edges of the case. It's not from dirt and dust or just rubber marks, they're actual little scratches. I'm looking to buy one of the "S-Line" cases (on amazon because I have gift card credit). Others have mentioned that the edge is not as sharp on these and I do not mind the buttons being harder to press. Are the i-Blason and Cimo brands essentially the same or what? The i-Blason looks a little more refined and is rated better. Thanks!
edit: forgot, I have an Ionic guardian and it's great as well, but just too pocket sticky for me. Definitely is great protection though.
The bezel is so weak it even scratches by sliding the phone in and out of your pocket. So, not a big deal imho!
My Diztronic case hasn't scratched my bezel? lol

I've read threads of many other people complaining about the same issue. Even the Diztronic store on amazon has complaints of it. I remember having this issue with their cases on my Galaxy Nexus as well.
If your bezel isn't scratched yet, consider yourself lucky.
However, aside from that the Diztronic is the most solid TPU case you will find.

I disagree, my phone simply does not get exposed to dirt or sand that would scratch. Take of the case and rub your finger just inside the top and bottom inside edge of it. It's fairly sharp for TPU
TPU is just plastic, it won't scratch other plastic. That would be a horrible feature for a case lol.

i have both diztronic and i-blason.
i like the diztronic better. the i-blason is softer but it fits loose. diztronic fits like a glove. you will get more dirt/grit/crap between your phone and the i-blason case due to its fitment.
from all the phones ive owned with a shiney bezel, they all get micro scratches on them. theres no avoiding it unless you get a full body cover like xoskin/xtremeguard/bodyarmors/etc that covers the bezel. just use your phone as intended. any cases will get crap trap between your phone and case. just be sure to take it off regularly to clean it out.
I have the diztronic case on my n4 and the quality and fit is outstanding. I bought it off eBay and had it shipped to the UK from the States and it was still cheaper by a long shot than anything available here in the UK.
I use it with an invisible shield front and back protector and although it was fiddly getting it on and making sure the screen protector didn't lift, its now on and I have no lift at all.

AW: Diztronic vs i-Blason vs Cimo TPU cases
I can too say that diztronic is the best tpu out there.
Because different types of plastic can't have different levels of hardness and different surface finishes (like polished chrome plastic) aren't more vulnerable to scuffing. Yes, they're really small fine scratches but they're there and I wasn't expecting them.

I have a Diztronic case and the fit is prefect. No scratching at all. The only issue I have is the screen protector lifts when the case goes on or off. The film is centered well just for some reason always snags a bit on the bottom corners.

is there really a difference between a 1$ TPU case and all the other ones ? I thought they were all made in the same factory...

Tempered glass case friendly?

Hey guys, ive never bought a tempered glass screen protector, and im wondering how case friendly they are? Im due for my upgrade on monday so id like to get one on order as long as its G2G with the bodyglove dropsuit rugged series case. Thanks
hi,
I did not have any problem but the case I use is one you find in the att store. it's not a 'slim' case by any stretch its a very thickish rubbery type thing for maxiumum protection. you could probably drop kick the phone and not even phase it.
the temperd glass with the case I'm using is no problem -- both I got in the att store when upgraded. my advice if you are shopping around online is to find people who use the case you do and ask them

I have 2 different versions of the Spigen and love the tempered glass I got from Luvvitt and Amazon
I have a Zagg Glass on mine and it fits fine into the Otterbox Defender.
I recommend Nillkin, the glass has beveled edges which will slide on the object that makes contact with the glass' edges and therefore prevent movement pressure. If you decided to go for another brand, I suggest you also look for beveled edges.
to be honest id say it fits most of the cases.. only bumpers might have some problems
Same here as Taz420nj, Zagg Glass and a Otterbox Defender case. I should have my Trident Kraken case this coming Tuesday. Best of both worlds as far as protection goes.

I have this one from Cybertech. It claims to be 0.15mm thick. It is very thin so that seems possible. It is unscathed after a month.
They are very inexpensive ($6.49 w/free shipping) so I may order 2-3 more.
It hasn't interfered with any of my cases. My daily case is a Caseology but I have a few others that I sometimes use..

What cases do NOT scratch the metal frame?

There have been a lot of threads and post about SPIGEN cases in particular scratching the metal frame of the N4.
What cases do NOT do this?
Thanks in advance
I'm using a Spigen Slim Armor for a week so far and no scratches on the frame. Don't see how it would either as only the soft inner tpu liner makes contact with it.
None, because it's not the case but the polished aluminum lip of the Note 4 that's the problem. Unless you live in a hermetically sealed environment, it'll probably end up scratched.
A few people have reported scratches with the Spigen cases but it'll happen with an otterbox, an UAG, a hardshell or a TPU case. For every person who doesn't have scratches, there will one someone who has scratches from using the same case.
Hey, perfect protection. I had S4 with S-View cover with Qi charging and it was fantastic. None scratches and wireless charging is awesome. I bought Note 4 (SM-N910F) Black with Samsung EP-VN910I Black. Fantastic

I'm also beginning to think that it's not the case but small bits of dirt being trapped between the case and frame that might be the real issue.
On some cases it's the material and on others it's particles. Either way, the aluminum is going to get marked up. Just can't worry about it....
I wish Samsung would have just stuck to plastic instead of trying to make it feel premium. Since I always put a case on my phone, I never see or touch the outside of the naked phone and would not have to worry about the metal frame. The all plastic phone was fine with me.
just put a piece of scotch tape over the metal frame before installing the case

I think I'm doing the same. Picked up a leather pouch from Amazon (bear motion) for 10 bucks when I need it.
I have my phone in a Ringke case since the moment I took it out of the box. My boyfriend doesn't use a case at all. Yesterday I took my phone out of the case to see how the metal rim is holding up in comparison to his, which is all scratched up. They are both just as damaged! Bottom line: it's not the cases, it will happen regardless. It appears to be so sensitive that the slightest speck of dust creeping in a case, or in a pocket, or bag, ruins it.

That tape is cheap on eBay; plenty $1 links for 5mm x 100 feet , but lead time is about 2 weeks; slow boat from China.
So far, I've only scratched the edges near the USB port (minor). Odd how the cases don't offer more protection around the ports. Should have just left the shipping tape on until this arrived. I've dropped a lot of phone's but haven't cracked a screen and don't want to start doing that so I'll try the generous application of the tape and hope it sticks well with swapping the case a lot because it looks like I'll be using a soft case for home and my Verus Thor for outings.
Thanks for the suggestion.
My Note 4 is 4 days old and I have removed one of my spigen cases a few times. The metal frame has got a few nicks. My iPhone 5s, which I babied, has tons of nicks and scratches. Though not completely visible unless you look for them. With these aluminum/metal phones this is normal.
I feel like the first scratch/nick on your phone is like the first scratch/dent on your new car. The first one is always the one that eats away at you the most and even if it's invisible to everyone else, you can pinpoint the exact location of the damage. I'm kind of surprised that there hasn't been a conclusive way to restore the chamfered edges yet though.
I haven't noticed it being sensitive. Mine has been naked since day 1. Owned it for a month or so and even have been bold and put it in the cup holder when driving. Not a single scratch *knock on wood*. I am looking into vinyls though, that's my current new trend. Started with my old m8, now gonna skin the note.
The Otterbox Defender and Commuter Series cases do not scratch the frame. I was very skeptical with the Defender Series, but was surprised by the results.

I'm not saying that any of our phones are deeply scratched either, but there is no doubt that the coating is not durable, as reported by many users.

Moto Z FORCE Cases

Looking into buying a case tonight. Any takers?
Before you read lol this is overkill but Decided to go with tempered glass from Pleson. I've used them before on my Moto X '15 no problems!
Going to see how the tempered glass and clear case work out!
I'm going to give the protector a try only because I want to have a glass screen to slide my finger on. Plus, who needs to worry about scratches, right? I think it'll work out well because the screen seems flat. I'm still deciding if I'm going to get a case or not.
A glass screen protector is a really good idea to improve the feel. I'd try to get away with just a bumper for a case. Full disclosure, I played with them at Verizon yesterday but I don't have one.

Purchased an Otterbox Defender case. I needed tough case and didn't have any experience with heavy duty cases other than Supcase's Unicorn Beetle, Otterbox's Defender, and Trident Case's Kraken. Supcase has one for preorder and I doubt the Trident will release a Kraken case for the Moto Z Droid.
The Defender is what I expected; A durable inside case surrounded by a softer shell. Had the same terrible plastic screen protector as every other Otterbox case. Popped it off the case, removed the adhesive with the edge of a blade.; With a tempered glass screen on the phone itself the fit is a bit snug, but the inner case still closes and everything still lines up correctly so everything is good on that end. What I didn't expect is the belt carrier is actually decent; the phone can attach in every orientation (face up/down, rotated 180 degrees about the face). It adds a bit of bulk, but I will gladly take it over a simple shell or soft case.

Question whitestone dome and cases.

Wanting to know if the OtterBox cases will be compatible with the whitestone dome class screens. I ordered this phone and it'll be here this week and so I want to know about this and which defender like case would be best ahead of time so I can order the accessories accordingly.
Mainly I just care about grip and protection. Doesn't have to necessarily be a defender case I just need something that's not really bulky but offers the same type of shock absorption. Thanks.
Zizo Bolt, that's all I use on my N10+'s; lots of drops onto concrete, no cracks or damage.
Very grippy, does not attract dust and easy to clean. The kickstand tends to break but that's not a big deal.
Gorilla IQ Sheild is a hydrocell wet apply screen protector. Inexpensive, lasts about 6 months, easy to apply and eliminates scratching. My 2.5 yo N10+ stills looks and runs like new...
I don't use super big cases like that but if you haven't bought the screen protector i recommend the amfilm one instead. A bit cheaper and the oleophobic coating is way better than the white stone one. And i used to always use white stone and always had the same issue with the coating wearing out fast. Just an fyi
I appreciate the feedback! My main concern here is grip. And my main concern for the screen protector would be well glass tempered.. I don't mind spending the money for the white stone I just want to know if the compatibility will be there for these cases such as OtterBox or a knockoff version of OtterBox. I presently have a OnePlus 9 pro and I have a white stone on it with a grip type of case and it works perfectly and so I'm wanting to know if the same will be applied to the s22 series. I specifically would like to know about the OtterBox defender series and the Whitestone if they're compatible That would be very awesome if they were. Well I don't want to spend that extra cash for an OtterBox I will if I have to.

Glass protectors are the least compatible with cases. The case is the primary protection in face plants. It should have raised guards on all sides with higher ones on top and bottom.
This is a heavy, corner hitting, face planting happy phone when dropped.
It also has a heavy thermal load, the Bolt dissipates heat relatively well but a graphene or other thermally conductive non metallic material be nice. No such thing as far as I know...
The Bolt can be had for around $26 although it come with a screen protector I'm not sure if I would use it. The hydrocell ones seem to work well, similar to the factory installed ones but not quite as good.
Lol, I had it with Otterbox. The Bolt is as tough and grippy as it looks... and so far hasn't marred my N10+'s side rails in over 2 years of use. I live in the desert, sand and grit everywhere.
I had UAG armor kevlar and now use spigen luqiud cristal. With these cases I didn't had any problems with dome glass.
For me dome glass is N1. I use from Note 9, Note 20U and now S22U
I might just get a matte skinomi protector and the defender pro series from OtterBox and call it a day. used to be my combination on all my Galaxy phones I ever had. I do intend to place magnets in the case so I can use it with my magnetic phone holder so I don't know if the weight would be a problem or not I'm not sure.
