P5110 4.2.2 update problems (lags, crash) - Galaxy Tab 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have installed the new official firmware on my p5110 and I have HUGE problems with the device getting unresponsive.
For example if I turn off Wifi over night and switch it back on in the morning. I understand that the device starts syncing stuff etc but the tablet becomes literally unusable for at least 5 minutes, sometimes not even reacting to any touch input as well as home key ... Eventually when you press the power button long enough it doesnt even show you any shutdown dialog but goes straight to the boot animation, rebooting without having shut down properly before.
Really disappointed by this release, not only because of the above mentioned performance problems but also because of the ridiculous phone UI layout that feels really uncomfortable on a 10" device.
Am I the only one with this problem or is it just time for a factory reset (but I don't wanna...)?

Don't waste your time with this build, i have had same problems even after factory reset and wiping internal sd. Rom behaves awful after you install
let's say 30-40 applications. Best thing is to return to stable 4.1.2 build or install AOSP rom.

I installed this rom, at the beginning very laggy but after a wipe data & cache it run very well, no lag at all. Better than 4.1.2. To modify the icons in the bottom row just push the edit icon in top right and turn landscape to portrait and it will be possible but little buggy. I did not try with 30-40 app so far.

in the right top corner of the screen there is a pen icon used to edit the icon's position, if you press it the bottom row icon disappear until you rotate 90º the tablet, then you will see the icons and you can move or delete it.

Oh that explains why I haven't seen that yet: I'm not using the stock launcher.

And this is the result.....
Btw.. my tablet works a lot faster now
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium

Installed cm now, much faster than any stock rom I tried before

One S "forgets" homescreen settings on reboot?

Well, it doesn't completely forget them, but some of them and change others.
My layout of choice is 5 homescreens, "homehome" in the middle obviously - if I reboot the phone, it warns me that "temporary files will be deleted", I assume this is normal?
However, after reboot, my normal homescreen configuration has been replaced with 7 homescreens instead, and to make matters worse, it adds the 2 on the right and in process moves the "home-home" one screen right, too, so it's the middle one again.
This means I have to first move every widget and folder manually one screen to the right, then delete the extra 2 homescreens (which are now on left & right since I manually moved everything one screen to right)
Is there any known solutions to this bug?

Hey there, This happened to me not long after I updated my phone to the latest update. I only got it yesterday so is yours new? How many times has this happened?

I've had the phone some 2-3 months, I'm not 100% sure how long this has happened since I rarely have to boot, but I think it was after the update - I rebooted just 2-3 times to test it after I first noticed it happening (can't remember why I rebooted on that time though) and it did it on every time

Hold home-button, when it shows you all your home screens, long press on one you want to remove and drag it to upper edge of the screen where there's remove button. Repeat as many times as you want.

ROM code? I'm using the newest (european) stock ROM, RUU_Ville_U_HTC_Europe_1.78.401.2_Radio_0.16.31501S.17_2_10.23.31501S.10L_release_258480_signed
I am using same as your one 1.78.401.2. But after I delete 2 page of home screen and restart. It will keep on 5 home page, did you install any third party app relate to the homepage?
No, as far as I know any of my apps doesn't affect homescreen.
Does it warn you about "temporary files being deleted" when you reboot?

Yes, it did pop out a window and tell me the temp file will be delete. After I reboot my home page stays in 5 page instead of 7.

Quick settings randomly pops up?

When my infinity is running at random the quick settings pop up, and is really annoying. Is this happening to anyone else? If yes, is there a fix?

No it's not normal.
Either you have a defective touch screen or keep touching the bottom right of the screen without realising it?

Are you referring to the notification drawer (the pop-up window with the date, time, connection, toggles, etc.)?
Have you checked your screen for dust enclosed under the glass, or other cruft/fatty smears? Very minor chance, but on other devices, it caused touch registration. I'd look for it primarily in the lower right section of the screen.
No dust? Tough cookie. On which ROM are you? If stock, factory reset would be my next option (if I'd get annoyed enough), and then check if it happens with a nearly 'naked' install. If custom, I'd go stock. If it happened again (multiple times), you might have a hardware issue.
Do you have the dock attached? Which launcher do you have? Do you have an swipe gesture associated somewhere with opening the notification drawer?
Stock ROM, but rooted.
Not unlocked
Yes dock is connected
Yes I'm referring to the toggles, date, time, power selection..
Stock launcher by Asus.
No swipe gestures applied.
I will try and clean screen tonight, I will also see if issue persist when I disconnect from dock. The dock is the tf201 one.

Mhhhhhh... This doesn't bode too well. Give the screen a good wipe, and I hope you get lucky and the issue goes away all by itself. You might try and reinstall the stock ROM by the file method provided in the stickies (can be done with a locked bootloader). If that doesn't help, well... I can't think of anything else at the moment. I then wouldn't take the risk, so I'd return it. Sadly. Sadly, but surely.
I'm actually having the opposite problem as you, sometimes I can't open that notification area. I know when it's going to happen because where it normally says External Storage Inserted it's blank there, and I can't click it.
So I tested last night. Cleaned smudges and such. Seems as though the keyboard is the culprit. Hinges are loose. And now it puts pressure on lower right screen bottom. Thanks for everyone's help.

Home button keeps going to Recent apps!

So i have a Samsung Galaxy S3 with Paranoid Android 3.1 (March 1st build) and I also have Nova Launcher!
My home button used to always take me to the home screen! or main page! but randomly it keeps just opening recent apps! No matter what i do it just keeps opening recent apps i even went into nova launcher and assigned home to go to the home screen and still doesnt work! Any help or ideas!?
*EDIT
I just reset my phone and i think the problem seems to be Widget Locker which i used to replace my lockscreen, not 100% sure but it seems to be a bit buggy on 4.2 devices... it could even be some setting in it not 100% any help because this might happen again!?

That happened to me before even on CM10.1; I believe the feedback is sometimes unresponsively accurate.
But if you use Nova Launcher, you can manually take off "recent apps" and replace with "home". But, sometimes it thinks your quick press is a hold, haha. I just know reboot will quickly fix it... for now.

What kernal are you running? I've had this issue as well and have wondered if it's kernal related. The only thing I could do to remedy the problem was reboot the phone.

Rebooting the phone seems to always fix it, I was running the included kernel along with Nova launcher and would run into it after about a half day runtime

[Q] Updating cyanogenmod 10 to 10.1

I just wanted to be sure that I am going to do this right.
Do I just go Settings > About phone > CyanogenMod updates > then download 10.1 and it will do all the work for me? Or do I have to make a nandroid backup (going to do that anyways), wipe cache and dalvik, flash boot.img then flash the rom?
Also, how stable is 10.1? Any known bugs?

The automatic updater will not work. At least if you're S-On. So flashing through recovery is the way to do it (wipes and boot.img flashing as usual also ofc). I believe flashing CM10.1 over CM10 might work without factory reset, but prepare for stuff not working and flashing it again with proper wiping.
Bugwise I'd say CM10.1 is absolutely ready as a daily driver. Wifi tether doesn't work when screen is off (same issue is with CM10). Performance is a bit lower than with CM10. You'll see some screen tearing when scrolling and switching home screens and in some games with intense graphics.
Give it a go! It's not too hard to go back to CM10 if it doesn't please you.
Sent from my One S. Please hit thanks if I helped.

This will be a tl;dr story so only read it if you can be bothered...
I did the automatic update, then as soon as it downloaded I had to run for the bus (one a bloomin' hour). I was then stuck on the htc splash screen for about ten minutes, did a soft reset, went into recovery, went back to CM10, restored the backup, not a problem. Then got home, pushed 10.1 onto the phone, flashed the new boot.img, then flashed CM10.1 and restored backup again. Worked fine. Then I had to try three different Gapps because two of them didn't actually work, and it was agonising that the website that I got them from only had an upload speed of around 0.4Mbs. But flashed that now, and everything works fine (although I had to delete and re-download NatWest and Play Music).

Spotted a couple of bugs immediately. Syncing with facebook simply does not work (I only wanted contact pictures for caller IDs). Obviously the clock bug, but I know how that is fixed. Haven't had any screen tearing yet, and since Orange only give me 750MB there is nooooooooo way that I am going to use tethering, so that won't bug me. CM10.1 has fixed the music player bug, where the first song I play would take around 30 seconds to play, if I chose another song then it would restart the previous song, play that for five seconds, then play the selected song, and if I paused a song it would then start playing again for a couple of seconds after five seconds of being paused. That was irritating. Noticed it seems to be a fair bit more RAM heavy than CM10, but I miss the settings button on the top of the notification bar, that tiles thing just seems to take to long for my liking...

Already knew about the sections thing, but because I'm right-handed every time I wanted to look at a notification I got settings, and setting it so that the settings open on the left side just seems a bit weird. I didn't know about the two fingers thing, and I like that, cheers.

MM bugs

hey guys, i've had a couple of bugs since i flashed MM, not major bugs...but still annoying
1. sometimes some of the apps lose their white background, they return to look like lollipop by themself, i have to disable and enable it again
2. message icon stay at the notification bar even after you read it, you need to open it again for it to disappear
3. finger print scanner, if it works as it should it works really fast, but sometimes it hangs to 3 seconds then it unlocks the phone ( this issue is present also on lollipop)
these are so far the bugs i encountered....is there any solutions? THANKS
Did you try factory reset?
