When I try to check for updates in my device by settings, about device, software update, check updates. I get a message that "your device is modified. Software update not available."
I am not rooted nor I have changed any settings. What could be the reason for this message. How to solve this. Is there any malware thats causing this. I have AVG antivirus running.
Pl help.

This morning I noticed the exact same issue on my N8013, which is also not rooted. It is less than a month old. When I first got it a major firmware update was automatically downloaded and installed via WiFi with no problem. It's not rooted nor has anything been done other than installing a bunch of apps.
I did connect via Kies just now, which shows that the firmware is up to date. In Kies I also checked for firmware updates and I did get a flash screen back showing that the latest firmware is installed. Of course, I don't normally connect via Kies to the N8013 (like I do on my Note 2) and I presumed that having the box ticked on the Settings menu for automatic checking for updates would suffice when connected via WiFi.
Looks like a software bug.
Ok. I figured it out. Unmount SD Card. Switch off, on, check device status. It is fine. Once I insert sd card it goes back to modified and gives same msg.
I believe best is backup sd on pc. Format it on device. Copy back ur files. It should work. Will try tonight and post results.

has anyone else found that there phone is no longer rooted after the AT&T JH7 update??? I noticed that the USB tether is no longer on the phone and went to use Barnacle Wifi Legacy and it told me that it only worked on a rooted phone. I checked BusyBox and indeed, the phone is no longer rooted. It looks like I have to start over. Has anyone seen any problems with re-rooting, lag fix or anything else after the update??

Samsung kies did the update for me when i plugged the phone into the computer. After it updated, it also broke my root and added all the att crapware again. I re rooted with no problems, and removed the bloatware. Phone is working great. I havnt really noticed any difference.

Has anyone updated with the Voodoo lagfix in place? I can always reflash the stock JF6 and then look for the update, but i am lazy.....
I updated through kies as well. Lost my root. used one click to root again and have had no issues.
I can't re-root! I want to re-root and install Unleash the Beast... I've downloaded it, renamed to update.zip... Put it in the internal SD, went into recovery and hit re-install packages and it no longer recognizes the update. I'm going nuts here trying to re-root... comes up... E:can't open /sdcard/update.zip (no such file or directory) Installation aborted ............... Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr... Help here..
That's odd. I did the OTA update by going into the system menu and selecting check for updates (I never installed the Kies software). I got the failed update message but the version showed it was JH7 after the restart, I'm still rooted and the bloatware did not reappear.
Also I never changed from the stock rom, I just rooted to get rid of the bloat and be able to sideload. I suspect those that did flash a new rom may have replaced the bloatware when they re-flashed to stock?
Hope this is helpful info for someone.

My phone dosent want to update because at one point I was using TB and removed chrome from my phone and installed the app version from play store. Now when I go to update, it reboots into recovery, begins installing, then fails. When I check to see wy its not updating, it gives me a long string of numbers and letters and says .. chrome.apk .. and then it says update aborted.... so I was wondering if anyone knew a way I can fix this because I have a backup of chrome when it was a system app but when I install it, it still does the same thing.

Try rebooting after you're done and see if it did update. A few people have reported that the update said it failed, but when they rebooted the update actually did work. If that fails, then you can just update through RSD.

Yea, I've tried to update it tons of times and it keeps failing because of chrome not being a system apk. I did try the option on this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=33028928 but, realizing I was on 4.1.2, it failed again and since not using a nexus 7, I'm not sure it will work anyway. I could go with RSD but I was hoping there might be another way to fix it without wiping all the data.
Since the update tot emui3/lollipop i've got issues with my phone being connected to both sim cards. The network on sim 2 is often not connected. So I con only receive call's and text messages on the first sim. This is not normal. After a reboot most of the times it works again for some time, but eventually it fails again. can anyone help?
I did receive the update normally and my phone is not rooted
Try the easiest way. Do a factory reset

Try re-installing the latest rom released. if it didn't work go back to the rom that worked with you without this issue. If the problem remains, then You need to take it to the nearest service center coz it's mostly gonna be a hardware issue

mine is build b313. Can i do an upgrade without rooting my phone?
Sure u can. It's an official update, you don't need root to install ANY official update
Sent from my gigantic"iPhone" using Tapatalk
and how exactly do I reïnstall this?
Download the rom ( you can find the latest version in the index thread)
Unzip the rom
Move the folder "dload" to the root of your external sd card ( make sure that the file "update.app" is inside dload folder
Go to settings
Updater
Options
Local update
Agree to create a backup
Agree to all prompts
Wait for the phone to reboot and install the update
If you see a success message after its done then you are all done!

Anybody else having issues receiving the latest OTA released today? I've tried 3 times now with it returning an error on the recovery screen and when it boots back into the OS it says the update failed with no explanation.
Mine worked first try. Software update complete. It even mentioned making sure to charge the battery as the update may have drained it...
Mine worked Ok. How much memory do you have remaining free? Maybe that is an issue...?
New firmware update huh? I have not gotten my notifcation yet. I'll do a manual check, but I'm stll on the default OGJ firmware and modem.

4.01 GB free and the funny thing is I actually just did a fresh restore using the previous AOJ2 firmware via ODIN and I used the PIT file as well. I'm gonna try again and see what happens in a moment.

Have you disabled anything that could be causing a conflict? If not, I'd do the FDR and then try again.
Good luck.
What does it do? Any significant changes?

On a couple of other devices I had, I had stuff disabled and that was the cause of the OTA failure. I currently used the debloater on my Note 5 to disable/hide a bunch of stuff. I will try to re-enable all those, and then try the update.

I don't see any changes as to what we interact with, but new Android security patches and does have a new kernel with a different date, not sure if anything changed on the internals of it. Have new entry in about device of android security patches and November 1st date.

Just an update I also had alot of apps disabled as well and re-enabling them did not fix the issue. I had to install samsung smart switch on my pc and do the update manually and it worked with no factory data reset which was optimal because transferring my music collection via MTP is a pain in the a$$. I will post the firmware if anyone needs it, but there is also a firmware thread that should be updated momentarily.
Android security patch = hogwash
They are just making it harder to achieve root. ?

I noticed major lag for like a couple hours after. Now it works smoother and it seems like my standby drain is fixed. 11% in 7 hours with 45mins SOT.

As these updates are often specific to carriers, I'd be surprised if the installer did not look for the sim card to absolutely verify carrier. Just my guess. Good luck.
Didn't work. I think I need a Verizon sim
I wonder if you can get a hold of an old non-working Verizon sim and see if it works. If so, you can just switch them out any time you want to update. Try eBay or something.

Hello. I'm rooted on Marshmallow 6.0.1, using Xposed Framework. I downloaded the CPE1 OTA update, and installed it successfully, using Flashfire so that i could maintain my root and recovery. I can't get the notification for the update to go away though.
I don't want to select "install" on the notification, without using Flashfire, because i think it will remove root and recovery, or cause some other problems. Besides, it's already successfully installed, i read the new build number in "About Phone" setting!
I've read methods, like disabling the system update app, but as far as i understand that'd prevent me from being notified of future updates, which i don't want.
Is there a file i can delete, using Total Commander, or a one-time, simple fix to remove the update notification?
Thank you kindly!

Out of curiosity, what release were you on before? I'm on the rooted PA1 release from the dev forum here and don't want to lose root (or twrp). If flashfire will do it for me, that's awesome.
Well I tried installing it but it rebooted to twrp recovery and twrp failed to install it since you need the stock recovery to install updates.
Thereforw doing OTA won't do anything it will most likely solve your problem of the notification not going away

dmolavi, I'm not sure what my previous build was, i just know my current build matches the build number in the info of the OTA. Flashfire installed it no problem; just make sure to check the "maintain recovery" option. Flashfire works by temporarily reverting to stock, installing the update, then restoring your root... I'm not sure of the specifics.
svz235, i ended up doing the same as you, but then it re-downloads the update, and keeps notifying me, in a cycle of failing, downloading, and notifying :-/

Yes, I downloaded it, but ticked "later" in the install options, then opened Flashfire and it automatically recognized it, and allowed me to install it.
I am curious to use flash fire myself to install the latest update. I tried using flash fire to flash the CPE2 update but it didn't work I am still stuck in CPE1. What settings did you use to flash it successfully?
Sent from my SM-G900P using XDA-Developers mobile app
svz235, CPE1 is the latest isn't it ? It's listed in the description of the OTA, and so is CPE2. I think it the version you get just depends on your phone model and carrier.
Flashfire recognized that i had an OTA, and automatically set the settings. I just made sure to select "maintain recovery" as well.

Well I have the SM-g900p from sprint flashed over to boost. I had CPE1 already installed. Then I got notification of CPE2 coming out. I did try flashfire but it keeps failing on me for some reason I go to build number and it is still on CPE1.
Alright, so it turns out I was mistaken... did I mention I'm somewhat of a noob? Anyway, CPE1 was the original mm6.0.1 build from Sprint, CPE2 is the update. They list it like this in the OTA info: CPE1>CPE2, I guess just to show it's going from cpe1 to cpe2... confused me because I thought they were just different builds for different models and carriers. :silly: So, FlashFire didn't work for the update. I ended up uninstalling Xposed Framework, and unrooting with SuperSU, then tried the OTA, but it gave me the message "Your phone has been altered in an unauthorized way" and wouldn't install the OTA. So I went to sammobil.com , downloaded the latest CPE2 build, flashed it with Odin, then rooted it again, and installed Xposed. Everything went smoothly, I'm on the newest build, rooted again, and no more notification... Yayy!!
