Hey there,
I just noticed that the 3 navigation buttons on the bottom of the screen are always on full on. The screen dims, the buttons dont. Even in video fullscreen mode. Can I change that? (rooted thx to jcase )
Is nobody else experiencing this? I mean every feedback would be welcome.
Rooted or not?
Lights always on or not?
Thanks.
Rooted lights always on, really really annoying when viewing videos in dark room. Screen filter app helps dim screen down extra but the nav keys definitely need to be addressed.

I think it's been brought up in Motorola's forums and it may be being worked on for the next update. The stock kernel just needs to be updated, I would think.
I downloaded Capacitve Buttons from the store and it only has two options available for the Maxx's buttons - On or Off, with the "medium" setting popping up an error. If you don't need the light at all, then it could be a good temporary solution. I wasn't able to turn the lights back on until I uninstalled the App, however.

You are right, I tried that too. But it is pretty unstable and annoying tbh, capacivity buttons has to change back to lights off like every 5 minutes, according to ssu. But for anybody who is interested, i tried gravitybox and there it works, at least to switch them off permanently. Hoping for a fix since motoxposed has the option to change the color, but it doesnt work.
thx for reply
I have a screen protector and used a blue Sharpie to color over the areas of the buttons... it's incredibly sloppy though. I think there's an oleophobic coating on the glass so it just causes the sharpie ink to "bubble up" instead of coloring it. Then when I put the screen protector back down, it kind of "smears" and... yeah difficult to get it how I want and of course looks dirty haha
Also: The MotoXposed options are primarily for the Moto X, which is why they have Nav Button customization. I don't think we have ever been able to modify the colors of the LEDs under the softkeys. That feature is only for the Moto X's software buttons.
There's an app for the gs4 Google edition that turns off the lights works for the droids too

I turned them off with xblast....but idk if I wanna keep em off or just have them dimmed...hopefully the gravitybox developer is able to come up with something

I'm not sure if it did before--I just started using it the other day--but the newest update to Gravitybox (Oct 2-3) now has the option to turn the nav bar lights off.

I thought I had seen a thread about this before but can't for the life of me find it. Has anyone been able to enable the capacitive buttons for notifications?
Recently I've seen the G2's trackball notifications and have gotten a wee bit jealous. Wouldn't it be neat to have the buttons flash or glow for a notification?
Would be even sweeter to have the buttons light up individually, like in a track pattern or something - but I wouldn't think that'd be possible as it's probably just one big light down there.
Anyone else think this would be cool?
I too would think that it would be awesome, but sadly I believe that the lights under the buttons are part of the LCD's backlight, thus cannot be controlled separately.

Hmm mine come on by themselves sometimes when the screen is off - I think it has to do with how dark the room is.

Yup, if you cover the light sensor they come on. I think this would be pretty neat though.

Edit: found it, root only! Still haven't rooted my Evo, just got it a week ago coming from a rooted hero on CM6, but the reason to do it keep stacking up, unrevoked here I come!

I actually played around with this and got to the point where I could get the capacitive buttons to light up when I got a text message using Tasker and the Execute plugin. However, I don't think using the capacitive lights as a notification tool is really practical because the lights are WAY too faint to make out in a normally lit room. You have to be in a dimly lit room to notice, and if there is direct sunlight near you at all, you can forget about seeing them.
The other problem is the lights may not be directly tied to the LCD, but there is definitely a connection, because whenever the screen turns off, the buttons turn off, too. I haven't found a way around that yet (granted I am by no means a hardcore programmer).
I started a thread on this already but it doesn't matter. could you explain how you got it to work using those tools though?
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
It's not root only.
You can control every LED on the Evo without root. I'm adding complete functionality into my EvoLight app over the next week or two, as a matter of fact.
You'll be able to control the charging LED, WiMAX LED, LCD brightness, and the capacitive buttons.
I'm still writing the code, but ultimate goals is for you to be able to set any notification to blink any LED you want, in whatever order you want.
I'm sick of seeing a blinking green LED and never knowing what the hell the notification is until I turn the screen and such back on!
Doward, that sounds awesome! definitely an app I'd pay for

Sure, you will need Tasker, the Locale Execute Plugin, and root access.
Context: Event-Receive SMS
Task: Plugin: Execute Plugin.
In the Edit box, type in:
@! echo 255 > sys/devices/platform/leds-gpio/leds/button-backlight/brightness
The first time you set this up, press Test once or twice and wait about 30 seconds for the Superuser dialog to pop up and then press Allow Always. It should work after that.
Keep us updated downward. Can't wait to see what you are working on.

I don't want to have to root my phone to blink lights.
Seriously though, the WiMAX Message Notifier program that bluedragon742 was working on had that functionality for SMS notification on the EVO. (Thread 746732) He appears to have dropped off the boards though.
If we can have the added functionality of other event notifications in a non-rooted app, I will definitely be forking over some cash for it.
I don't think its connected with the lcd because when you put it to sleep and then unlock the buttons light up after being unlocked

That's what they mean.
Notification light within the speaker
Is this what you're referring to?
It only shows up if i have the charger plugged in. Orange when charging and green when charge complete.
Shouldn't this be where your alerts are shown too? I have them set up via this menu:Settings > Display < Notification flash , however i never see any light come on when i have new messages.
Won't work, fascinate had an amoled screen which o believe can turn on individual pixels. The tbolt has an lcd screen which uses a backlight which only lights up the whole screen

He's referring to the backlighting on the soft keys, not the actual touch screen.
This would be great if it's possible. The notification LED is horrible on the TB.
Backlight support, if I remember correctly, has to be built into the kernel... I've only used it with Nero rom on the Samsung Vibrant, never on an HTC device. If you don't like the notification lights on the Thunderbolt, you can download NOLED app from the market... It works well on phones I've tried that have no notification lights like the Nexus S...

Hmmm... never heard of that app. Will check it out. Thanks man!

I use an app called "Flashlight Alert" from the market or can be found on the XDA forum.it uses the LED to alert you of email, text, google voice and calls. It's free and doesn't require any additional addons.off that does catch your attention then nothing will. I even used it on my Xoom.
try "missed message flasher" it flashes the backlight whenever you get a new message. it can repeat until you check it or you can set time limits. tons of options and works for all notifications.
If you're rooted there is an app called light flow that works very well. Makes the led notifiers actually serve a purpose.
Am I missing something, but I can't find how to enable notifications for missed email or calls. Does this feature exist?
I surprised no one seemed to bothered by lack of led notification... This was the most useful feature in N1

Actually I'm very bothered by it, but knew about it going in. I just don't think any phones are going to have that magic trackball or led notification anymore.
Apparently there's a mod for the Optimus 2x that enables the soft keys at the bottom of the phone to light up as notifications, but it hasn't been ported to the G2X yet.
Well, there might be no dedicated LED, but there are those touch buttons, they should do the trick. As a matter of fact there is an app Touch LED Notifications (BETA) 0.3, but it appears a bit buggy still.
been using touch led beta 0.3 for two days. so far it's workin great!

does the led button app drain your battery life? doesnt that unsleep the phone?
There is also an app in the market called noLED that works awesome.
Noled is great for amoled screens to my knowledge. On amoled you can light up a specific led whereas on LCD you still turn on the entire backlight.
From author's description the app processes notifications only when they are received and the phone is awoken anyway. You can also set timeout after which the less stop flashing (I set it to 3 hours for example.)

The 2x touch LED app has been working for me for almost 2 days now w/no apparent issues.
Touch LED Beta 0.3 working great here! Haven't tested noLED from market but it's meant for AMOLED screens whose black pixels do not consume power. If you use noLED for notifications to display on your LCD screen, it will be like leaving the whole screen on any time you have a message.
Yea 2x touch just pulses your capacitive buttons at the bottom. Its configurable and works great...
I'd rather light up 4 LEDs then my whole backlight.

Hey can one of you tell me your settings on it?? I want to make sure i have it set up correctly.
Its strange im using google voice for text but everytime i receive one the keys dont light up...is this a bug???
Perfect! Just had to change the file extension from txt to apk for some reason. Works good unrooted.
will this stop my entire screen from illuminating when i get a text? all my other android phones did not have their screens turn on when a text comes through unless i had an sms pop up app.
Need a little help with this, when I DL the .apk on my phone, it turns into a .txt file. What am I doin wrong?

I've used TeslaLED on my other phones with success. On the G2X it acts weird. It'll toggle on and off most of the time, but it's extremely delayed, and the widget and notification widget don't show I turned it off.
Anybody know of one that works good with this phone?

LED Light FTW...Search for LED Light in the market and it comes up as tiny flashlight + led...thats the one
I use one called "Magnify."
It not only is handy as a flashlight, but acts as a magnifying glass (with the camera) to help do things like read small print.
I found Tiny + the other day, it works fine but IMO it a pain to use.
On the Nexus One there was an app call Nexus One Flashlight, it was a simple one slot widget that would toggle the LED on and off with a single touch. I kept it on my center screen and used it all the time.
I'd like to find a flashlight app that toggles the G2x's flash on and off with a single touch.

That one works well for me also. No widget, but a shortcut to it does just fine. Just press the back button to turn off.
+1 for Tiny Flashlight + LED
I use the widget and it's one touch on, one touch off. Widget is only 1x1. Perfection.
I simply use Google Goggles. I never need the LED light for long so I don't mind the camera running with it for a little.
I've been using Tiny+ myself. Widget works fine and haven't really had much trouble with fc's. Anyone know of a way to use the hardbuttons (volume up, down) to activate the led? Or better yet, an app that already does that?
On locking the Nexus S screen, it goes to sleep and thus NoLED notifications are not visible at all. On pressing the power button, the screen comes on into the NoLED Notifications screen and I can see the NoLED notifications. However, I'd like the notifications to be visible without needing to press any button. The NoLED FAQ mentions nothing regarding this.
It would be great if someone could give me an idiot's step by step on setting up NoLED correctly on the Nexus S.
I never liked noled because it always worked other than the way it was intended to. My screen would turn on to the lock screen and then go to the led notification. It's also a battery drain. Anyway, I think it might just be the app or a settings conflict.
Sent from my HTC One X+ using xda app-developers app
Don't think many people use NoLED on a Nexus S with BLN available. Big battery drain for nothing. *shrugs*
Edit: You do need a custom kernel though.
I haven't used NoLED, but you can get that functionality with CM10 stable. You can use the four buttons as notification led. When the screen is off and you get new notifications, they light up. I disabled it because I don't like being distracted, but it works very smoothly. You would need to root and go away from stock, but I think that's great for more reasons than just this one.
Yeah, BLN. Good stuff.
