[MOD] AppRadio Unchained - Full mirroring for Pioneer AppRadio 2 and 3 - Android General

This mod is not developed / maintained anymore.
The mod is based on an (now) old version of the Pioneer AppRadio app that does not support the latest Android versions and head units.
If it works then it works but if not then you are on your own. There is no support. Also the ARUnchained GPS Injector app is not developed anymore.
To use AppRadio Unchained please get the paid version from the Play store called ''AppRadio Unchained Reloaded".
For details see here: AppRadio Unchained Reloaded
If you don't want to root your phone and have Android 7 or higher there's AppRadio Unchained Rootless
Old information:
=================================================================================================
The Pioneer AppRadio is a radio with a 7" touch screen. Android devices can be connected via HDMI and shown on the screen.
Touches and keypresses are sent back to the Android device via Bluetooth. The radio has a GPS receiver and data is sent
over Bluetooth as well. In essence a very nice concept.
To connect to an AppRadio there's a Pioneer AppRadio app available in the Play store. The Pioneer AppRadio app
is however quite restrictive. It allows only to run a small number of apps that are approved by Pioneer. These approved
apps can interact with the AppRadio app because they have a built in Pioneer SDK. The number of useful apps is small.
For details look here: Pioneer Appradio Knows website.
The goal of this project is to modify the Pioneer AppRadio app in such a way that it allows full mirroring.
This means that any app can be used and controlled using the touch screen and keys on the headunit.
Also any application can receive GPS data from the AppRadio.

Navigation apps that already have AppRadio support like Waze and Navfree still work using the HU GPS. If you only use those apps then you don't need ARUnchained GPS Injector.
Head unit models that have built in navigation like AVIC-Z150BH, AVIC-F50BT and similar are not supported as Pioneer does not support sending of GPS data to the android device. If you are unsure, a test that can be done is to install Waze, if Waze can use the GPS of the head unit, ARUnchained GPS Injector works as well.

Old releases
Beta release 5 is still available in case 6 doesn't make you happy: arunchained0.15.apk
Beta release 4 is still available in case 5 doesn't make you happy: arunchained0.14.apk
Pre-beta release 3 is still available in case 4 doesn't make you happy: arunchained0.13.apk

Nice work! I can't wait to get home and test it out.
In the other thread I saw that someone had a S4 working with the AR3 using your app, so you have me really tempted to upgrade from the AR2 If you get GPS working on the AR3 you can definitely count on a donation from me.

FAQ
ARUnchained GPS Injector
The ARUnchained GPS Injector app has two parts inside. One is the GPS service and one is the UI activity.
The service is the part that injects the GPS data into mock locations. ARU 0.14 and up will start this service automatically when a bluetooth connection is made to the HU (at the same moment that the rotation locker is started). The GPS service is stopped when bluetooth is disconnected.
The UI activity is started when you start the ARUnchained GPS Injector app from the launcher. It shows the status of the GPS service and also the actual GPS data. The purpose is to be able to check whether the service is working properly. With the start / stop buttons the GPS service can manually be started / stopped.
For the GPS service to work Mock locations has to be enabled. To use the phone built in GPS, Mock locations has to be disabled. It can become tedious to set this manually so ARUnchained GPS Injector has an auto on/off Mock locations feature. In order for this to work ARUnchained GPS Injector has to be converted into a system app.
This involves moving "mars.area51.arunchainedgps.apk" from "/data/app" to "/system/app". This can be done with root explorer for instance. Set permission to rw-r--r-- and reboot your phone. On Android 4.4 (KitKat) you should move the apk to "/system/priv-app" folder instead.
For pre-KitKat Android versions converting to system app can be done using Titanium backup:
Open Titanium Backup
Search for ARUnchained GPS Injector
Long press and choose convert to system app
Reboot phone.
Converting to system app using free ES File Explorer
1. Make sure in ES File Explorer, Root Explorer is enabled and Mount R/W is on RW
2. Copy pkg.apk in /mnt/asec/mars.area51.arunchainedgps-1 to SDCard and rename it 'mars.area51.arunchainedgps-1.apk'
3. Install 'mars.area51.arunchainedgps-1.apk' from SDCard
4. Move 'mars.area51.arunchainedgps-1.apk' from 'data/app' to /system/app or /system/priv-app on 4.4.x
5. In /system/app or /system/priv-app select 'mars.area51.arunchainedgps-1.apk' and in menu select Install.
6. After install reboot
How to make a logcat using an app called Catlog
Start Catlog logcat through app menu and select record.
Select home button so you leave Catlog app running.
Go through process to start ARU and connect to AR.
Once you know the bug was created, open the Catlog app from notification bar (this stops recording).
Select the recording, which is named by date-timestamp...from action selection pick share by email...this zips the logcat and system info txt files into one zip.
Email to self and share the zip with dev by email or any other method you want.
On my Samsung phone not the whole screen is shown but a part is cut off
A) The default Samsung launcher doesn't handle landscape well. The solution is to install an alternative like Nova launcher.
On my Samsung phone touch stops working after calibration
A) Verify your phone is rooted properly.
B) On Android version 4.3 and higher Samsung has Knox security and SELinux is in enforcing mode.
This somehow prohibits accessing the /dev/uinput device which is required to be able to input touch/key events on system level.
In order for ARU to work Knox has to be disbled and SELinux has to be in permissive mode.
Possible fix 1:
First install an app called Android Terminal Emulator then open a terminal and type
the following lines pressing enter after each line:
su
pm disable com.sec.knox.seandroid
Now wait a bit till knox is killed and finally type:
setenforce 0
If this works, you have to do it every time you reboot your phone. It can be automated with Tasker for instance
Possible Fix 2:
Install the Xposed framework and the Wanam module.
At Security hacks tick " Disable Knox notifications" and "Disable SEandroid".
Reboot.
Possible Fix 3:
If the other fixes don't work and your bootloader isn't locked you can try to install a custom kernel that has Knox disabled and SELinux in permissive mode by default.
Keyboard use
It's not necessary to install Car Keyboard. Only the original Pioneer AppRadio app needs that.
Note that the virtual keyboard created by ARU is sometimes incorrectly detected as a hardware keyboard.
This prevents the software keyboard to be shown and makes it impossible to enter anything.
To check / set the keyboard settings:
Click the menu button on ARU.
At the right bottom click on "Change input method"
A pop-up is shown that CarKeyBoard has to be installed. Ignore it by clicking OK.
The dialog for selecting the input method is shown.
Make sure hardware keyboard is switched off.
Use of the hardware buttons:
The home, menu and back button now work as advertised.
To go back to the native interface you have to open the AppRadio app manually and then press the home button.
To go to the AppRadio app easily, swipe down the status bar and click the AppRadio notification.
Fast option to go back to the native interface: Double click the home button, touch the blue bar in the middle with 4 squares on the left.
Release notes pre-beta release 2
Multitouch implemented.
Multitouch works now. AppRadio 3 has a bug which makes it a bit unpredictable.
Hardware keyboard issue fixed.
Sometimes the virtual keyboard created by ARU was incorrectly detected as a
hardware keyboard preventing the software keyboard to be shown. Fixed now.
Options menu available.
The options menu can be reached from the app's main screen. There's now an additional ARU
option sub menu available with two options:
Rotation locker.
Invert XY coordinates.
When in AppRadio Mode homescreen, select menu button, select ARU, there you will see the ARU feature options...only accessible when connected to HU at this time.
Options can be set but will only become active after force stopping the app and then restarting it.
Go to Settings->Apps->AppRadio Unchained and do a Force stop. After that just start ARU again
and the options will take effect.
Rotation locker.
Forces rotation to be in landscape when enabled.
Locker becomes active when a bluetooth connection is established with the radio.
Locker is deactivated when bluetooth is disconnected.
Invert XY-coordinates.
Necessary for some tablets and HDMI sticks.
Currently this options doesn't work well. Somehow it will switch mode during calibration, giving
incorrect calibration results. After that touches are at the wrong position meaning app is useless.
Will look into it soon.
Release notes pre-beta release 3
Steering wheel controls
Steering wheel controls are working now.
Currently supported are: previous track and next track.
There might be more but I couldn't get it out of my radio.
Of course there's volume, mute etc. but that is handled directly by the radio
and never sent to the phone.
In case there are commands sent by the radio to the phone besides the ones already implemented the logcat will contain this:
Don't know how to translate RemoteCtrlInfo = <number>. Let me know the number and what remote control command you were
issuing and I can add it.

Hell yeah man! Thank you! will test soon on my AR3. If you have that bitcoin address set up I'll send you like $20 worth of btc for this mod.

great... waiting so long for getting AR3 support...
will test it today and donate as well...

hey Area51. i have a bugreport for u. appradio app from market work ok on lg p999 with stock 2.3.4 fw, but modified app crash twice at startup. then it work seems fine(cant test it with pioneer now). on same phone with cm7(2.3.7) and cm10 all ok. i have a log dump for u: http://pastebin.ca/2455597

Alright just got done testing with my note 1 I717 running stock 4.1.2. Couldn't get it to work at all. Bluetooth is connected as I can stream google play and make phone calls through the unit. However, when I connect the MHL adapter to the deck, I get an icon that I can only describe as a map with a speech bubble with a bluetooth symbol in it with an x by it. I'm assuming it means no bluetooth connection. However streaming music via bluetooth is currently going on. Now on the phone side, normally in the non modified version of ar before the mhl adapter is plugged in and bluetooth is connected, it gives a picture of a usb cable on the phone with an arrow saying plug in. On the arunchained, it just gives the Bluetooth symbol with 6 dots like it's not connected. I'm terrible at bug reports so if you have any questions I'll try to answer it.

Your phone has to be rooted for this app to work

I think it may be due to code obfuscation stripping a bit too much code. Thanks for the report.

Hmmm, basically that part (Bluetooth communication etc.) is not changed from the original app. So I don't really understand why there is a difference. It seems you are using an AR3 but I have an AR2, so I guess icons on the headunit are different.
On my phone side I get a Bluetooth symbol with 6 dots as well, and it's working.

hmmmm. I uninstalled the app, restarted the phone, reinstalled, gave root access, and still nothing =(. I made an album of screenshots and pics http://imgur.com/R7sU3gf,vBVOGAN,VAiII0J,U5NEyBC#3 . When I go to the center icon it gives me a message like app radio does not seem to be installed, when I hit ignore, I see the home screen of android, but I get that hand with the x when I try to do anything.

Phone side is same as I get. AppRadio side I can't compare I have an AR2.
On the phone side I only get that Bluetooth icon with the 6 dots. I think the other is because you have Bluetooth streaming.

Thanks.
This link got me into the design mode somehow. Do you have to give everybody access before they can enter data?
Maybe a field to state working or not working and if not, why not would be nice.
Will look at it later, my gf wants me to watch the last episode of Dexter now.

I tried it again but now I got a message that the file is in the owners bin. When I clicked the link, I entered into design mode or something. I had to click "View live form" to enter data. But it seems someone else entered data in design mode and replaced all the titles with the answers he wanted to give. Do you have a copy? Maybe need another link to go to the View live form mode right away.

Have you paired the radio to the phone under Bluetooth settings? Also - check if phone is "selected' on the connection tab on the radio itself (I recommend auto connection to be set to ON)

So you buy a bluetooth mouse but your ginger won't connect it?
Or you have an bluetooth keyboard and can't write at your ice cream?
I made two apps to help users with bluetooth HID devices. They are quite simple apps, and can be very helpful.
You will need:
* root
* busybox
* the xbin folder
* Android 2.1 or higher

It is an app inspirated by Bluetooth Keyboard Easy Connect (thanks Mike! - Mike's app: here). It have the same function to connect bluetooth devices, but not only HID devices, and isn't a service, is like an extension. You pair the device, and if the device don't connect, you open MyBluCon and select the device to connect and tap connect. Simple!
0 - Turn on Bluetooth on your Android;
1 - Pair your device with your Android;
2 - Open the application MyBluCon;
3 - If your Android does not have the necessary system files, the app will install, just wait - is needed allow superuser (aka root) and have Busybox installed;
4 - Your device once paired are listed on the screen, see its name and its index ([1], for example);
5 - In the edit box, type the index number of the device you want to connect (1, for example);
6 - Click "Connect my device";
7 - Wait and done!;
8 - When you are finished using the device you can disconnect it from the app, for some button on the device itself or simply turn off Bluetooth.
OBS.: On your system, even with the device connected you will see "paired but not connected", because this app don't update the status on labels.
=============================
MyBluIME:
It is an app used to patch the Android issue what, even connected, the bluetooth keyboard don't writes.... So this app bring to you an solution to use your bluetooth keyboard connected at the Android, the keyboard don't get connected at the app like the market apps, so it don't lost connection (I'm assuming what you won't run away from the device). Is just install, and set as your IME.
0 - Turn on Bluetooth on your Android;
1 - Pair your keyboard with your Android and connect it;
2 - Open the menu and go to input options, enable MyBluIME and select to use;
3 - If your Android does not have the necessary system files, the app will install, just wait - is needed allow superuser (aka root) and have Busybox installed;
4 - Try to write at an notepad.
=============================
Use it by your own risk. But is safe. Make your back up, just to ensure..
I hope you enjoy.
If won't work, copy the bluetooth.zip content into your xbin folder, and give permissions to execute the binaries.
Ensure that you have busybox and root.
This was tested at ST15i GB and ICS rooted and with busybox, using a BT mouse from Multilaser and a generic, Apple like, keyboard from Clone.
PS: The bluetooth.zip content isn't by me, is just an collection of recompiled tools, to manage bluetooth stack for linux, what work at android.

I envy you and the kernel developers , the hackers developers , and the android developers :victory:.
But this is just a beta for now hahaha :cyclops:.
Feel free to leave a feed back, I see the 'thanks', what is rewarding, but I need to know what scenario it works or not. This app isn't at market yet, so you can tell me if work or not here.

thanks very much my freind. your work is amazing for me. i have the thinkoutside keyboard and unbelievebly i managed to connect it to my mb511 (motorola flipout) and actually type.
just two quick questions when i turn my keyboard off and then back on again so i have to put it into pair mode and pair it again with MyBluCon. For some reason it doesn't seem to remember the fact that it was paired. (although if i turn on the keyboard without pairing it again with MyBluCon and it is only paired with the main bluetooth settings then what happens is every time i type it resets the bluetooth altogether)
my second question is that after i installed MyBluIME when i tried to open it then my phone gave me an error 'activity not found-com.juliano.MyBluIME' so i am not sure as to what i am doing wrong
p.s. i copied the zip to xbin already and edited the permissions
thank you so much

Thanks buddy!! Glad to hear that. Well if the keyboard writes, you don't need the MyBluIME, but download again and install MyBluIME to see if happens again. If the problen don't get solved, would be helpful send me logs from the logcat, using this https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.jtb.alogcat&hl=en.
About MyBluCon, this app only deal with the connection, once the device paired at your system.
I mean, even at ICS with support for my bluetooth mouse I have this same behavior. Our bluetooth devices (such keyboards or mouses) are paired, but the device need to be at discovery mode next time, while we triggers the connection by our system, when we turn the device on and wish connect it again. Is how actually the Android system connect with HID devices, once paired, for correct use, you need to put your device (the keyb in this case) in discovery mode and trigger the conection.
The bluetooth connection can be reset because, in case of a keyboard, you maybe use an PIN code to safe conection, so the next time you turn on your keyb this code can be reseted and Android disconnect and reset the conection to you be able to pair again with a new code. In ICS with my bluetooth keyboard this happens also.
Just to sample, I only use MyBluIME because the ICS can handle the connections even with these annoying behaviors.
You can find some tips in the peripheral manual.
BTW you always can send me logs. Thanks again!
For app logs and for contact or more for people at XDA and outside, I offer this e-mail [email protected].
problem getting keyboard linked to lg optimus 2x

Thanks man!
Well, lets investigate! Try reboot the phone and turn off the keyboard, now turn on your bluetooth and with your keyboard already paired, turn on your kb, the state at the system must be the "paired but not connected", try to connect with myblucon, if the message "device busy, off or out of range" happens again, try to hit once the button about connection at your kb (I think any bluetooth device have a button to connect) and connect with myblucon again, if even this don't work, hit and hold for 5 seconds or more the button of connect at your keyboard and try to connect again with myblucon... so if you read until here and your keyboard don't get connected, send me the log of the logcat to my e-mail and take a look in the manual of the keyboard maybe you can find some tip.
I will use the log information only for fix the app, and I won't use for another purpose. I need the logcat because I need see the entire system behavior about bluetooth.
Keep tuned :fingers-crossed:
any ideas

Ok so i did further testing with another phone and seems like my phone is the issue, doesnt matter what bluetooth keyboard i connect (tested 3 of them) they all sit on paired but not connected. my bluetooth headset works fine though on the phone, i am starting to think that its my actual phone that might be having a problem, as i tested the same bluetooth keyboard on a motorola device and it connected by the default bluetooth connection and i was away typing but my rooted lg optimus 2x 2.3 gingerbread is not working, i have been trawling through other places to see maybe i need to place files somewhere in the directory structure but have had no luck,
like this link states where the bluetooth files should be but i dont have file structure after data shows as 0 items in it. Any ideas? this is the statement someone else said but i dont have that structure.

Yeah, I made this app to try patch this issue, because many androids, mainly old versions have this bad bluetooth support, even my phone.
So I searched about your quote, then I found THIS.
Well, I was looking here, at my phone the structure to this files are
/data/misc/bluetoothd/<A BLUETOOTH ADDRES>
and here I found the "linkkeys" and the "names" files. I will try this tip after, because I'm at my work now.
BTW, this is the first time I read this tip, so I don't have ideas xD, and my "names" file is empty also.
And even the Xperia P, for example, have the same issue of the bluetooth connection...
Is strange that you don't have subfolders in data folder.... maybe your explorer can't show?
So let's investigate, me gusta :silly:. Thanks for the reply.
this is what i see using a root explorer
Ideally if i could if i can get a copy of the bluetooth files id just copy them into the specific locations.
do you have an email i can email my screenshots to? or should i just load them online by the image shack or something?

Fell free to use the e-mail to send screenshots. I will send my files to you try also.
BTW you can post imagens here without use services like image shack or something.
Pictures
Here is the screenshots of the Root Explorer showing nothing under my data folder, so there must be a place where bluetooth keeps its information, I have searched for those files you stated like names and linkkeys and they dont exist :S so what i was thinking is trying to build them manually and import those files from someone elses structure into my phone to see if that resolves it? what you think?

I'm starting to thinking what you have that structure, but aren't listed because de folder name with numbers are a bluetooth address like B0:B1:C2..... and the explorer have problems with ":".
But i'm posting now my files, I have problems to copy due the fact of the ":" stuck the root explorer copy, so in the folder "00 00 00 00....." put your bluetooth address, rename to 00:00:00... via command line, after you paste under data folder.
BTW, I can see all the content of each file using the Notepad++, but my root explorer don't show the same.
The problem is the explorer, but I found something new to dig.... :silly:
EDIT: About your tip, I found some descriptions about the files... not sure if are exactly the same files, look here
I've posted the source codes of the two apps, enjoy.
So... more than 2k views, around 5 downloads of the source, almost 100 downloads of the apps and nobody find more issues, nor send logs, even nor complaint?
My hope is who downloaded the source, will make an better app, and who downloaded the app will send me feedbaks. I'm certainly what we all need/wish a fully functional app to improve the android bluetooth stack.
What a thing
thank you so much for this. i am typing on my cm9 touchpad right now because of this. had been trying to use easy bluetooth connect but was constantly having issues with losing connection and not being able to get it back. this connected right away. i will report back any issues i run int. the only thing i am running into no is that even though i am typing it must not be recognizing any input because the screen is stilll timing out as if i am not touching it. do you think there is anything that can be done about that other than setting the screen time out later. again thanks for this.
edit- ok i am a little confused about these two apps. i was running into a situation where it would pair but would not show up as an input device and no type. so i was using bluetooth keyboard easy connect. as i said it was just not consistent. so i downloaded both of these. i did mybluecon and then blue im eveything was working fine except the screen would time out. now after a reboot i could not get the keyboard to connect. even with blue ime in use. so i disabled it and reconnected using mybluecon and i am back up and running again even though my normal android keyboard is selected and not blue ime. do i need both? if not based on my situation which one shoud i use? again thanks for these and appreciate any help you can provide.
Thanks. oh and it seems that the way i am doing things now the screen has not timed out. that is with not using blueime.
thanks

Nice dude! In your case you will only need the MyBluCon, because you can type normally just connecting the keyboard.
Since your keyboard is working without MyBluIme, take an nice IME, take a look:
SwiftKey 3 - see the free version
External Keyboard Helper Pro - see the free version
Null Keyboard
The MyBluIME is for androids what even connected, the bluetooth keyboard won't type. When the Android natively recognize an keyboard, you can type with or without IMEs, and each IME have an behavior to deal with native keyboards, such layouts, no screen keyboards, etc etc.

[APP][4.0+] AudioBT: Use Bluetooth headset for GPS and notification audio

Hi
I've created a small app that automatically switch your device into Bluetooth call mode when an app is playing an audio or when your GPS is giving directions. The benefit is that it will cut what you're currently listening from your car audio system to play the incoming call audio and go back to your current listening on your CD, MP3, FM radio, etc.
There are two ways of using AudioBT.
-One is a background service that monitors the audio focus and turn on the Bluetooth SCO proile when another app is temporarily requesting the audio focus. Unfortunately the first second of the audio might be cut when using this service (to be fixed with upcoming Xposed hook). Some applications do not request the audio focus properly so this might not always work.
-The other approach is an integrated TTS engine. Any app using tne Android TTS service can use the AudioBT TTS service for sending text to speech. AudioBT will automatically turn on the Bluetooth SCO profile before playing the text. Any TTS service or language can be selected in the AudioBT TTS parameters.
It is still experimental and user's feedback is appreciated.
Thank you!

Service intents (for use with Tasker)
com.turboled.audiobtplus.ON : Cat = Default, Target = Service. Turns ON the AudioBT Plus service.
com.turboled.audiobtplus.OFF: Cat = Default, Target = Service. Turns OFF the AudioBT Plus service.
com.turboled.audiobtplus.SCO_ENABLE : Cat = Default, Target = Service. Enables Bluetooth SCO channel audio.
com.turboled.audiobtplus.SCO_DISABLE : Cat = Default, Target = Service. Disables Bluetooth SCO channel audio.
com.turboled.audiobtplus.PLAY : Cat = Default, Mime Type = audio/*, Data = file uri (file:///*), Target = Service. Plays an audio file through the bluetooth channel. No need to call SCO_ENABLE or SCO_DISABLE. Specify file name in Data.
To play notifications through Bluetooth with Tasker, create a new task with the following steps:
-Say to file (Misc), text = %NTITLE, file = /sdcard/Download/1.wav. Use standard TTS engine (Pico, Google, SVox, etc...), EnhancedTTS or AudioBT+ TTS are not supported.
-Send an intent (Misc), action = com.turboled.audiobtplus.PLAY, cat = Default, Mime type = audio/*, Data = file:///sdcard/download/1.wav, Target = Service.
Add a new profile with Event -> UI -> Notification and link with the task created above.
Add the task to any profile triggered on Notification *,*. Make sure Tasker is enabled in your Accessibility parameters.

Well, it was right there on the Google Play image... I added an hyperlink below.
New version 2.2.0 to be published soon on Google Play. Attempt to fix compatibility issue with some devices. If you tried this app on your phone and it didn't work, try the upcoming version.
Thanks
I've tried your app with my alpine cde 133bt, but the tts-messages were still send to the normal bluetooth audio-out channel, so I have to manually switch from tuner to bluetooth mode. Both the service and the custom tts-engine didn't work. Your app is exactly what i've been looking for, so let me know if there is anything I can do, to help fix this.
my setup: I have a motorola razr running on android 4.0, which connects to the radio with the HFP and with the A2DP profile. turning a2dp off in the bluetooth settings redirected the tts-messages to the mobile speaker.

Hi,
I've got other similar complains from Motorola users. I have not been able to figure out the problem yet. Are you able to provide me with a Logcat when you start the AudioBT service ?
Also can you test BTMono, which is a similar app but that leaves the audio channel open (incoming call) ? If BTMono works my app should work. However BTMono is from a different author and uses more permissions.
Thanks
i tried btmono yesterday, it works. I will get back to you with the logcat later

At the same time, you could try 2 test versions I created. The first one adds more permissions (Bluetooth_admin and network_access). The second one use Call mode instead of Communiation mode. Please tell me if one of these works on your device.
Here's the link to both APK:

here is the logcat record, i hope it helps. i started recording, started your service and pressed the test audio button.
i also tried the two test versions, they both did not work, same behaviour as the original one
edit: aparantly i'm not allowed to post external links (or edit my post for 5 minutes). i've attached the logcat output

Hey sebistan, thanks A LOT for your logcat. I saw an error about a missing BROADCAST_STICKY permission. I've create a new version AudioBT-Sticky at the same link: https://docs.google.com/folder/d/0B2XwV7ab33OAY2tiVVRTWGRRTVE/edit?usp=sharing
Your help is a blessing. Now if that works, I'll be more than happy to give you the unlimited version if you send me your email address (in a private message).
yay, that would be great. unfortunately, it is still not working, but we are getting closer
when i start the new version, my car audio system switches briefly to calling mode and back to the tuner. But after that, all other sounds are still beeing routed to the standard speaker. I've attached the logcat

There is something odd going on, now that it successfully go into communication mode, it cannot track the audio focus. Your phone/ROM is acting way differently than some others.
I've attempted a fix (AudioBT-focus.apk), please test. I turn off commuication mode between audio, however I fear that it will take too long to switch on and you will lose the first seconds of audio when a message is playing.
I believe the TTS should work (even without the fix above) as it doesn't use audio focus. You can test by playing the sample in the settings.
Thanks!
After looking at Android source code I figured out the focus problem was fixed in JB Android 4.1.1 and up, so anyone running my app with ICS have the same problem. If you have success with my fix above and you don't see a significant delay when playing the audio I could publish a new version with a workaround for ICS, otherwise I will have no other choice than to put a notice regarding incompatibility with ICS.
the fix also does not work, the audio test is still coming from the music channel. the tts-service is not working either. in none of the test versions. i guess i have to wait for the jb update.

Please provide me with a logcat with the focus fix... There's probably something else going on. If you get the incoming call to come up during initialization, that's a good start.

Hi seb,
I finally decided to install ICS on my phone. And indeed, it doesn't work well. I see that I cannot prevent the call mode to steal the audio focus in this Android version. For now I don't have any idea out of my head.
However, TTS works on my phone with ICS but not with the fix version. Make sure you turn off the AudioBT service when testing TTS. And maybe send me a logcat while testing the TTS (playing the "Listen to an example" in the TTS settings).
Hi I just wanted to tell you that I recently bought a dice mediabridge for my car and the only issue I was having and it was really bothering me was that when I was in Sirius satellite mode and my phone connected through Bluetooth that the phone calls would come right through but not the navigation if in use. This bothered me because it was a lack of integration that should be there. I searched the web for a few weeks pretty thoroughly and discovered that this was a very common issue reported in threads but no solution at all from anyone. The other day I came across your app and it is wonderful it does exactly what I was looking for and I'm sure once word gets out it will get alot of downloads. My only issues with it is that it does seem a little buggy which I totally understand.A few times the other day it wouldn't activate and I had to reboot my phone to get it to work I have a Verizon note 2. And also a few times the audio just came through as static and not understandable but after playing with it got it to work again. Is development still being worked on for the app? Thanks again.

Hi bman.
First thanks for your comments, those are always appreciated. I wrote the app for myself after knowing that some older non-Android phones and iPhone had this capability. Thanks to Android, the API allows to route audio through Bluetooth SCO although only in very recent versions of Android. Hopefully someday it will be better supported by the OS.
My app has an unexpected success since the beginning, however sales have decreased in the last few weeks. About half the people downloading the trial have ICS 4.0 which is not very well supported except for the TTS engine and nothing I can do to fix it yet.
I've pretty much stopped doing updates as the app has become stable enough on most devices; however I don't have much feedback from users and am not aware of all the bugs and if they are fixable. I'm still ready to publish fix whenever one is found.
Cheers!

If you are able to see in your watch the images in your GoPro then that means that the connection between the GoPro and the phone and between the phone and the watch is working good. What do you see in your watch when trying to operate the camera?
I have released a new version with an option to send camera info and logs that will help me to understand the cause of issues like this. Please install the new version, connect your phone to the GoPro wifi network, open the App on the phone, selected the menu item "Send Log" and please send me that information with your favorite email app, you will be able to review the information that will be send or add anything you want.
I can not connect my gopro hero 4 Silver to the App. The Problem is that the App is Searching for a Connection (screenshot 1) and after ~ 5 seconds, the app will close. If i connect Via Wifi to my gopro (Screenshot 2) the App will closes directly.
Sorry for my bad english

As I can see in screenshot 1, you haven't configured the WiFi settings, you need to set the "WiFi SSID" field with the name of your GoPro Wifi and "WiFi Password" with the WiFi password of your GoPro.
Also you can connect the phone to the GoPro WiFi and open the app, it will try to set the settings automatically for you.

my LG G3 also force closes and I can't seem to get it to auto-detect or update the fields manually
edit: I got it to update and connect, toggled my wifi off then opened the Remote app and it autodetected the settings, seems to work okay but I can't seem to get back to the main screen easilly, by that i mean my watchface

I have fixed some "force close" issues, also there's a new "first run" dialog to help you configure the WiFi settings. Please download the new update and try again.
thumbs up, works pretty well
Lets keep it going
Hi everybody
I had a GoPro HERO2 (rusty one from 2011), I have a GoPro HERO3 Black, +Black, HERO4 Black cameras. Here is my work of documenting the commands of these cameras to control via WiFi: (damn I am new!!!) github dot com/konradit/goprowifihack
I was going to do an app too but there is this app too, why not merge? In the repo there are ALL of the HERO2/HERO3 Black commands for wifi control, will release HERO4 commands soon. The White / Silver / HERO2 work the same, this means commands are the same. The HERO3 Black and the HERO3+Black are more advanced and have different structures. The HERO4 Black and Silver are completely different from past structures.
Lets get this app up to date with all cameras and maybe voice commanding?
Thanks for this... I've never touched Android development, but this and WearBucks failing after AW5 update has pushed me to get my STS setup for it.
It's awesome to have some of this working so far on my 3+B.
great app!
First of all, thank you for this amazing it's really a great idea! :good:
I have, two question:
1) Why don't you release this one on the playstore? it would have a lot more user =)
2) I was thinking about a fonctionnality: would it be possible to add a "bookmark" button, during the shot of a video? (ultimately it would add a chapter in the mp4[limited by GoPro API I think...], but writing the timestamp in a file would be a nice first step) To help editing those video and retrieving the important moment of each video file.
[ If you have a public git for that, I would be glad to help implement that ]

Yeah same system, but for every H generation. And usable in any video editing software not just the gopro studio.
A simple text (or json xml etc...) file, with some timestamp, will do the trick.

[Guide] How to use Tasker to fix all calls being sent to Gear S3

The Problem: On many non-Samsung phones, all calls, even when answered on the phone itself, get sent to the watch's speakerphone, requiring the user to manually switch the sound back to the handset every time a phone call happens. As a side problem, the watch conflicts with other Bluetooth devices capable of of being used for calls, like car stereos and headsets. Several threads on xda and elsewhere discuss these issues; however, the only solution posted is to disable the "Phone Audio" profile of the watch in settings. This is sub-optimal because it completely disables the ability to use the watch as a phone speaker.
The Solution: I have put together a series of Tasker profiles and tasks that utilize the BlueTask plugin to control the connection of the Gear S3. A convenient detail about BlueTask's disconnection method is that it only seems to affect the "Phone Audio" component of the Gear S3, leaving all other functionality untouched during a call. I use the proximity sensor to determine whether or not the call is being made/answered on the phone itself vs the watch. The assumption is that if you leave you phone in your pocket, bag, or face down on the desk, then you answered the call via the watch. I understand this is not a perfect method for determining which device is answering the call, but it works pretty well in my testing. In addition, an exception is made for when a wired headset is hooked up to the phone, as one may leave their phone in their pocket while answering using such a headset. Finally, an additional profile I call the "Car profile" will automatically disconnect the watch and disable its Tasker profiles while connected to specified Bluetooth devices like a car stereo, Bluetooth headsets, etc.
Setup:
Re-enable "Phone Audio" for Gear S3 if you previously disabled it (Settings>Bluetooth>Gear S3)
Install Tasker (if you haven't already)
Install BlueTask
Go to Tasker>Preferences>UI>Beginner Mode. Disable it (if it is not disabled already).
Go to Tasker>Preferences>Monitor>Display Off Monitoring>Proximity Sensor. Set it to "Yes"
Download the Tasker project attached to this post to your phone
Import the project into Tasker (Press and hold the home tab in the bottom left corner of tasker and then click Import)
Enter the new "Bluetooth" project and open "Car Profile" in "Profiles"
Delete the Dummy MAC address in the Profile and replace it with the MAC addresses of any car stereos and/or bluetooth headsets you use with your phone. If you have multiple of such devices, separate each address with a "/" (the magnifier glass icon does this for you). If you have no such devices, feel free to disable or delete this profile.
Open "Disconnect Gear S3" in "Tasks"
Open the "BT Connection" action
Replace the dummy information with your Gear S3's Name and MAC address
Repeat steps 10, 11, and 12 for the "Connect Gear S3", "Car Mode", and "Exit Car Mode" tasks.
Complete!
Let me know if this works for you. Also, suggestions for how this project could be improved are welcome.
Its works fine on #LGV20 so no need for this fix.

I've downloaded the project to my phone but when I launch tasker and try to import the profile I can't find the file, even though I can see it using a file explorer. I've changed the.Prj to .prf and Tasker sees it but when I try to import it it gives me an error that says the for contains multiple projects.
Any help would be appreciated, thank you

Is it downloading as a .prj or .prj.xml ? It should be the latter. If it isn't, rename it to have a .prj.xml extension. Otherwise, not really sure what is going on. I haven't had any trouble importing Tasker projects in the past.

Thanks for getting back to me. Im new with Tasker, the only reason I bought it was because of this issue and because I saw your post. All I needed to do was disable beginner mode in preferences, under Ui, and the house icon appeared, from there it was very simple to follow the instructions. Thank you for sharing your solution to this very inconvenient problem.
Once I get to test it ill make sure to give you feedback.

Hi i downloaded the App but seems it doesnt work for me. I set it up according your instructions but still no change. But i háve an idea i spoted that when i make call from phone i háve an option to choose which audio divice to use if i select my phone it doest work but when someone picks up and then i select it it Works. So i am thinking is there a way to make this automatic? That once someone picks up a call that it select this option right after.
Added 2 screenshots one from the Standard run and one of the option to select an audio divice when making a call.
Thx for any help.
Edit: Works Now thx alot i had an incorrect name set for the device... i will test it if it works always but so far so good. thx alot

I wanted to use this system as part of the automation workflow. The problem is that, when dialing someone, it switches the audio output when they pickup, instead of during Phone Offhook (the moment you hit dial). As a result, I can't detect the actual moment the audio device is switched, so I disable the watch audio entirely to prevent it from from happening.
Hello guys. I have non rooted stock nexus 5x. I have followed steps from first post but I always get error (attached).
Please any ideas what's going on?
Edit: Sorry guys. Please ignore it. I have added wifi mac for gear instead of bluetooth mac. I'm going to test it.
I am trying to use this for my phone.
I opened the prj.xml in notepad, edited my MAC address and name of bluetooth for car and gear s3.
When i press the play button in the bottom left corner i get the error non-existing plug-in code type Action: 704475526.
Any idea what i can do?
Thanks.

Can you tell us, the other users, what you did to get it solved ?
As we are in a forum, others can benefit using your solution.
So please share.
I just got my Nokia 8 Sirocco, and I thought it was bad BT performance on my new device, when it probably is my Gear screwing me over. Thank you for this Tasker-project, I've just finished setting it up, and l am looking forward to seeing is effect!
Unfortunately, the macrodroid way don't work anymore for me.
Don't know why.
I am retrying the Tasker way. I get the error:
12.53.42/E FIRE PLUGIN: Connection / com.twofortyfouram.locale.intent.action.FIRE_SETTING: 8 bundle keys
12.53.42/E Connection: plugin comp: com.balda.bluetask/com.balda.bluetask.receivers.FireReceiver

12.53.42/E add wait type Plugin1 done
12.53.42/E add wait task
12.53.42/E Error: 2
Does anyone know what it means?
LE: When i am in the car i don't get this error. Everything seems to be with green dot. But the magic never happen. The tusker is not triggered. Should i make other settings to work?
I also tryed Bluetooth auto connect. Bad luck with that also.
Hi!
I've been meddling with Tasker for the past few days and discovered that choosing the Headset profile to connect to and disconnect from the Gear S3 works better for me.
I've started out with MehStrongBadMeh's guide and tasker xml file (many thanks by the way!), but found out my phone was unable to connect the Gear S3. It disconnected OK to connect the car bluetooth, but would not reconnect Gear S3. Running the task also gave errors as reported by few others on this thread.
But everything seems to be in order when Headset profile is selected for Gear S3. Will test out extensively and will report back if I need to change anything else.
I believe I created that xml was created before bluetask handled specific profiles, hence the need to explicitly set headset now. I don't actually use this profile anymore, as calls started being routed properly when I updated my HTC 10 to Oreo (and continue to be routed properly on my OnePlus 6).
Just wanted to say a massive thank you for this. I have just bought the Galaxy Watch and have a Samsung S6 Edge with lineageos. I was having the issue where everything was being rooted through the watch. Your guide has got this working as it was designed.
My notes would be for anyone trying this - do not change the device name as it doesn't seem to work (i am guessing this is referenced in other profiles) - just change the mac address to your watches Bluetooth mac address.
Any update on this I still get an Error 2 and it never seems to connect on its own to my car audio

The headunit before installing it in the car
Basically all 9 inch head-units look similar, and are having a universal form factor. That way I could atleast use the frame, from the EKIY D7: which I had only 3 weeks in my car, and I'm still trying to sell it. But atleast I got a partly refund from AliExpress, because of the fake Android version.
In a way these head-units are just like tablets, so no wonder it looks like one as well. However this one has no silly blue colour at the edges, something the EKIY D7 had and during the hot weather it already had some discoloration.
Then we have the back of the device: on the left are all the antennas. FM/AM, 5G WiFi, GPS and the 4G which I didn't install. Because it would require a SIM card, and already paying for mobile data on my phone. So instead I will create a WiFi hotspot, whenever I wanna use the internet.
On the top above the fan, you on the left the connection for the reverse camera video signal. Next to their are the ports for the USB dongles: there are three, I hooked one up straight to the cars original USB port.
Because I had the converter cable for that with the EKIY D7, and actually I have it connected as well to the headunit. But it seems not to be working, with my USB-C cable, and also the USB cable from the Viofo A119 dashcam didn't work.
So I'm guessing perhaps the USB port might only work, when setting the USB protocol to 1.1 instead of the current setting of 2.0 USB protocol. However I haven't tried that yet, as it would render the other USB dongles quite useless.
Because when I tried to change the USB protocol to 1.1 in the settings, it warned me that it would be limited to use for media only, just like how it was on the OEM Carradio. This USB port had been quite useless, so I never used it. I tried to connect my dashcam on it while the original car radio was still in the car. But that port didn't even provide enough power, to provide the dashcam for enough juice to run good. Since then I just have it plugged into a 12v adapter, with two USB ports that provide plenty of juice.
Back to the connector's above, the biggest one is for the fan and simcard dongle. I didn't find this particular useful, as it's a bunch of cable's I'm not using. It also contains the AUX and RCA audio connections, which I'm also not using....
So I had to bundle all these cables up with several cable ties, which was kinda a pain in the ass. As I had to do it in the car: I found it way easier, with the previous headunit. Which I only had to plugin the FM cable, GPS, Power cable and USB cables. Which I only could use one, because also on the unit the original USB port didn't work.
Below these connections, you have the Coaxial and Fiber optic connection option. However they are to no use for me, I didn't make any adjustments to the sound installation in my car. So everything goes through the harness. Which is the 16 pin connector on the right, the exact same that came with my previous unit. So I didn't need to bother to order it
User experience inside the car
I had the luck, that I had to drive about 300km's towards Frankfurt: the place where they mess up with our currency, and make it worth lesser than a dollar
But that gave me the chance to test the unit, especially the usage of Android Auto. Yes I know, why use Android Auto when you have a full functioning Android headunit? Well I will be getting to that in a bit.
So here we have the homescreen: I thought the car launcher looks pretty cool, because in the upper right corner you have your Google Maps. It works exactly like tablet mode of Google Maps, so it's fully functional and you could just use it like that.
Below there on the right, is a music player widget: very nice if you get your MP3's illegally from the internet, and load them on the headunit. There is 64GB of storage, so it would be doable to store music locally.
However I stopped downloading illegal MP3 files, because ever since I have a mobile internet data subscription. I started to use Spotify, since a time we even have shared premium account together with my wife. So that music widget is useless, as it seems nit to be configurable with Spotify.
The clock in the left upper corner is actually fine, it shows the time and date: what more does a person want? And on the left down corners, you can configure four favourite apps. It's very easy to change, just hold the button and can select any app you want.
(Wireless) Android Auto
Using the Car Link app, it's very easy to connect to Android Auto. To my surprise it even works wireless, however your phone needs to support it as well. This is basically where the 5G WiFi proofs it benefits, because Android Auto uses 5G WiFi in order to have wireless Android Auto work.
The downside of this though is, that WiFi in your headunit will be switched off: as it's being used by Android Auto. And after using Android Auto, it won't be turned back on automatically. So if you wanna use the WiFi for apps installed on the headunit, than you have to switch it back on by yourself after using Android Auto wireless.
Issues with wireless Android Auto
Another downside of wireless Android Auto is, that it might crash every once in a while: because even though the 5G WiFi frequency is used lesser, than the 2.4G frequency. Still there might be interference every once in a while.
For example: crossing the Dutch border to Germany, and the other way around. Both times Android Auto crashed, most likely because the mobile network get changed on that moment. The only way to reconnect in that case, is by closing Car Link and starting it again. Than the headunit will connect to your phone again, without breaking the law and taking your phone in your hand.
3-9-2022
I have figured out, that the main cause of making Android Auto crash: is because the mobile network is changed. Because I went across the border again, while using Android Auto.
Just after I crossed the border, the connection was loss and the mobile network changed to roaming. Than I just press the back button, which closes Car Link and after that start it again.
I wonder, if this could be automated by MarcroDroid. So far this only seems to be an issue when crossing borders, and ofcourse when the mobile network is changed.
Made a decision: wireless or wired AA?
Also keep in mind, while wireless connection is way more convenient than everytime you step in the car having to plug in a USB connector. On long journeys you might wanna disable the wireless option in Android Auto settings on your phone, because it seems you can't connected wired if you don't disable the wireless option.
Yesterday I tried connecting Android Auto wired, and I think it doesn't work: because there will be a conflict, the phone tries to connect wirelessly. While Car Link might be trying, to establish a wired connection. My wife got pretty irritated, when after a few mins Android Auto still wasn't connected.
So in the end I just disconnected the USB, started Google Maps on the headunit and drove off. Later I just started Android Auto wireless, without even once touching my phone.
But I'm finding wireless connection more convenient anyway: even though it takes a little bit longer, to establish the connection. Obviously wired is faster, when establishing the connection. And it won't suffer from any interference, by other wireless connections in the air. The crash at the border didn't happen, while I used wired Android Auto with the previous headunit.
Android Auto vs Google Maps
The main reason I prefer Android Auto, over native Google Maps on the headunit: is the fact that Google Maps runs in a tablet mode, which is fine for that little widget displaying Google Maps. But everything is very small and I can't see the instructions very well, as they are displayed at the bottom in a little green bar.
It took me awhile to actually figure out, where the navigation directions where being showed. Before I thought perhaps I simply had to update Google Maps, but that wasn't the case. Also nowhere to change this in the settings sadly.
Because it still keeps running in this tablet mode, where everything is very small. So that's not convenient, while using it in the car and trying to read the directions as showed by Google Maps.
Android Auto has none of these issues, so that's why I'm preferring Android Auto over native Google Maps on the headunit. It actually also has a part, where you can control Spotify. So that's very convenient while driving. And that shows why so many drivers, prefer Android Auto over built-in navigation inside their car.
I'm still considering though, trying another navigation app instead of Google Maps. Perhaps Waze? Or HereWeGo, just that I don't like that changes that navigation app underwent after they updated it. For example the Dutch voice, is a text to speech voice....
Sound
Don't underestimate the importance of sound on a Android head-unit: I did with the EKIY D7, which doesn't have a built-in DSP and the sound was horrible. One more reason it was replaced so quickly, even though this makes me loss some money in the end....
So obviously FYT or whoever has developed these interface, for controlling the sound on these UIS 7862 units. That's something they have put some effort in, unlike the FM Radio app which is very basic.
This is exactly the same as seen in T'eyes FYT UIS 7862 units, no difference here. It seems no matter which seller: all are having these highly configurable sound setting's. But I was actually already satisfied with the standard setting, so I didn't change it.
There is also a volume balance settings, which again I didn't bother to make any adjustments. But it might be useful to do, if you feel like you can't hear the navigation directions very well. In the settings I also found a option, that the sound level will increase depending on your speed. This is something my built-in OEM Carradio had as well, so I have it enabled at low setting now.
Screen quality
Considering both the EKIY D7 and Mekede M500s are having 1280x720 IPS displays, I do find that the display inside the EKIY D7 is of lower quality. Which makes me think it's a full fit screen, as described in the image below.
However I find playing videos on YouTube usually a good indicator, for showing the screen quality. As it's fast moving images in full 1080p resolution. So I played some of favourite music.
Don't try this while driving though, but it might be nice to be able to use YouTube or any video playback while parked. Ofcourse you would need an internet connection.
Bugs
How difficult is it to fix bugs? Well for many years, these head-units suffer from a bug which deletes your Google contact's. It happened on the EKIY D7 as well, so it's not something new.
I did however find a workaround: the issue occurs, because your contacts are being synchronised by Google. However the contact list on the headunit is empty, so this synchronises to your phone once connected by bluetooth.
Many users have suggested to turn of allow sharing of contacts settings in bluetooth, but that results in not having your contacts on the headunit. So instead you should go to User>Google Account> and put off the synchronization of contacts. That fixed it, and than the bluetooth simply transfers you contacts to the headunit without deleting it.
Just like how it worked on my OEM unit from Suzuki, but if you don't use Google for you contacts. Then this bug would most likely not effect you.
Another bug I found, and also already read about on XDA: is the fact that once you change the UI, in this case UI29. After a reboot, or once you start the car again? It would change back to the standard UI.
So I went to UI settings again, and saw UI29 was still selected. I selected it again and saved it, but I'm guessing perhaps next time I get in to the car. The standard UI might be back. Which I don't mind to much, I'm finding the different home screens quite similar anyway.
Reverse camera
When I first checked if the reverse camera was working, I had a black and white image. So I though perhaps it was a feature of the Starlight Night Vision from my GreenYi AHD reverse camera. So I spend a half evening on Google, trying to figure out if black and white image was normal.
In the end it turned out, the headunit settings for the reverse camera wasn't in AHD yet. However the reverse camera works fine, although I still have to put a Car Camera Filter between it. I ordered one from AliExpress, but shipping will take awhile. So until I get the filter, I will have to live with some interference inside the image.
Interference Reverse Camera Celerio
Hello there, Recently I have installed an Android head-unit inside my Suzuki Celerio, which before had a simple but well functioning Bluetooth Car radio with cd player. The main purpose of installing a screen in my car, was in order to install...

Fake Android = 20% money back
So as I already reported: Mekede is selling these head-units with fake Android 11 on it, while this doesn't effect the unit in a single way. Because it's just a editable number in the build prop.
But I saw it as an opportunity to get 20% of the purchase amount back: I paid $ 232,77 for this unit. And I got $ 50 dollars back from AliExpress, because of proofing it runs fake Android 11. So that makes the price for the Mekede M500s totally $ 182,77 totally.
I probably will even get back a little bit more that € 50 because, when I bought in dollars: the exchange rate was still one to one. Now it's like € 1 = $ 0,99 and AlliExpress, will pay you back in the currency you bought the item.
In order to get the dispute succesfully through: where you show the actions you follow, to proof the fake Android version. So install fake device test first, before staring the recording. And ofcourse describe how you proved it's fake. Just taking the picture won't be enough.
Also don't expect a full refund or 50% or whatever, AliExpress most likely don't give you a higher refund of 20% but feel free to round the number up.
But no matter if the device displays Android 13 and running Android 8.1 it going be the same, for AliExpress. Even though the impact is bigger, when a head-unit is running such an old Android version. In this case I have no problems with Android 10.
Verdict
For the time being, this is my verdict: keep in mind it's based on a short user time, but that's mostly the case. I might update the review, when there are new things that I find worth mentioning.
In my opinion it's clear why the FYT Based UIS 7862 is among the best choices, when picking a Android Head-unit. No matter if you mainly wanna run Android Auto or use it as a dedicated headunit, running navigation apps and music directly from it.
Because I was ignorance at first: mainly wanted to have Android Auto, I thought a cheaper headunit would do just fine. And well that was the case, but the sound was horrible. It was to slow for running any kind of modern app etc, and even not giving the full Android Auto experience.
So with this headunit, everything is really quickly running: no slowing down, other than waiting for wireless Android Auto to connect. You can run whatever apps you want and most likely it will work.
I only don't think these Android head-units are meant, for people without any technical knowledge. It isn't plug and play at all, because there are some settings to be taken care of. Some bugs which might annoy you and wanna smash the headunit, all of this makes Android headunits not suitable for the non-technical people among us.
And if you are very reliable of using your phone for making phone calls: run away while still possible, because ofcourse when the calling is already working. The microphones in these units are very basic, having no noise cancellation.
Tweaks and fixing problem's
In this post, I will describe the tweaks or methods, I used to fix annoying issues with this unit. Which shouldn't exist in the first place, but well you get what you pay for
( You pay for the hardware and headunit software, but don't expect support or these Chinese companies to fix these issues. Some exist for years.... )
Fixing Messed-up Google Maps...
One issue I described in my review, was the messed-up Google Maps. It seems this is caused by the Frontapp, that widget kinda thingy on the right upper corner that displays permanently Google Maps.
In order to fix that, you basically have to use an launcher which doesn't contain this Google Maps Frontapp. Or because the launcher will also go back to the default one.... even though you change it in factory settings.
FrontApp for Teyes - Apps on Google Play
Change Teyes main screen application easily
play.google.com
Or use FrontApp for Teyes, which enables you to change this FrontApp to any app you like. For example Spotify: just keep in mind, this way you can't close it.

Make use of the 5G WiFi
Fellow Dutch @TweakNL made me aware, that you can configure your mobile WiFi hotspot to be using the 5Ghz frequency. One reason to do so, is to avoid interference by bluetooth which uses the same frequency band as WiFi 2.4Ghz does.
It makes the WiFi more stable, hence no need to worry about a unstable WiFi connection. Actually the 5G is also the reason, Android Auto works wireless on these units.
Car launcher that keeps changing back, do the default launcher after picking another launcher from factory settings.
I found this issue very annoying: you can select 5 different launchers, from Car Settings. But it would everytime change by to the default one, kinda forcing you to stick with it. At 4PDA however I found the solution:
Q: Launchers (themes) spontaneously switch to others after sleep / reboot / other actions
A: Settings - Device - Applications. Disable the Digital Wellbeing App

Splitscreen
It might not come directly in mind: but using Splitscreen can actually be very useful, and isn't difficult to use at all. I tried it with the FM-Radio app and Google Maps, and I could control both apps without needing to switch between them.
Nice review. (Apart from the fact that I do not understand that you buy an expensive unit to run AA )

Below there on the right, is a music player widget: very nice if you get your MP3's illegally from the internet, and load them on the headunit. There is 64GB of storage, so it would be doable to store music locally.

MP3's on your unit don't have to be illegal. I have a large CD-collection which I completely ripped to flac for my home installation and to mp3 (preset V0) for my car. You have the legal right to make a backup/copy for yourself, at least in the Netherlands! I have over 2500 songs on my unit (6000 at home as I don't play classic music in the car), where maybe 80~100 are indeed illegal as they are popsongs I like, but I don't like the entire CD (at all).

You could install something like tasker, macro-droid., Llama or Easer to check for the connection. If AA or CarLink is no longer running, you could start WiFi again.

I am not sure whether your statement is entirely correct. When you use Google Maps in the launcher it runs as some kind of widget. Joying shows in their youtube videos showing AA that they run Google Maps in full screen which makes it much bigger.
On my previous PX5 and sc9853i and current uis7862 I always run my unit on my phone hotspot also giving me full-screen or split-screen Google Maps, with or without Spotify (not anymore, tried that shortly), radio or music player.

I explained that just now, at the end of the verdict for now. It took me awhile to finishing the writing, and I haven't even been able to take a all the pictures I want. As my wife gets annoyed, when I'm frequently going to my car hihi.

Ofcourse I'm aware of that, but I don't know many Dutch people from my generation who didn't download illegal MP3's and for a long time you actually could just do it. They only went behind the big fishs.
I however used to download K-pop, as I could impossible import the CD's from South Korea. So I used to burn these MP3's to CD, in order to play them in the car. Yes my old Carradio has a CD player, but I haven't used it years.

Thanks, I really need to try this when I have time.

Well I didn't take a picture, else I could have simply showed it. And I tried to find an image on Google, with this what I think is the tablet interface.
But Google Maps looks the same in both the small widget, and full screen. Maybe I might try a launcher, without the Maps widget. Because I find these widget's, more of a gimmick.
I changed the default GUI to something else because of problems. When the unit starts it opens google maps on the home screen. When i try to open fullscreen the layout is messed up see the image.
When i take a other UI without google maps loaded in a small window problems are gone. Also see the other image. I masked the streetnames.. you can see on the messed up one the green bar and the missing of directions and current speed etc.

Well that's precisely what I was trying to describe: so in my case, it looks like messed-up one and I really kept thinking it was a tablet ui. But now it makes sense, Google Maps opens automatically in that widget.
I thought the widget could be quite useful, but this way it's messing more things up than doing good. Unless Google Maps isn't your choice, than it doesn't really matter.
But this made me prefer Android Auto, even though it takes a bit to start. Simply because the UI of Google Maps wasn't messed up this way. Because in a way it might be easier, to use Google Maps straight on the headunit instead of Android Auto.
How much I do love Android Auto, I must acknowledge that it has it downsides. Especially when setting up destination's, if you didn't search it recently. Than you need to give a voice command, and Google Assistant never seems to understand me....
Or it should be something straight forward as: DM ( drugstore in Germany) than most likely, it will bring me to the closest. But when my wife, wanted to go the Chinese restaurant. Ofcourse when I tried to pronounce the name, it wouldn't understand it.
You could change the widget to open youtube, very usefull if you want to see the settings of youtube on your home screen :') :')

Oh really? How to do that? Because I just saw, some people display Waze inside this widget instead. I have also been wondering, if I could play Spotify with that music control widget.
The idea of having a little map in the widget, is nice: but not if it messes up Google Maps. So instead I might use another navigation app, like Waze?
It was sarcastic why the hell you want youtube settings on your home screen haha. Maybe Waze works okay but i dont want to use that.
No me neither, but if it displays in this widget then it's totally fine. Because then I could use Google Maps normally.
I just don't know yet, how to change it? Is it just changing the default navigation app? Or how does it work, because if you tap these widget's no settings popup.

Actiually it is wrong to call this a widget. It is a special way that Google Maps can use to display itself, also like the "small" popup that can be displayed in the bottom-right if you have another app open.
User König (aka Boorondook) on 4pda wrote the app "Frontapp for Teyes" that you can use to display almost anything in that Google Maps area. It can also be downloaded from the Play Store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ru.fytmods.frontapp (see Video)
He also wrote the "Widgetupdater for Teyes" but that one costs money, and that is for the widget (left side; the real widget )
Edit: Sorry. I had copied the incorrect link in the Video link

Ah okay, I didnt know better than that these things where called widgets: this term I learned from KDE, a Linux user interface. But thank you for the app, than I can use it to display Spotify instead.

I didn't say it correctly either. I corrected my post. It is actually a Launcher function enabling a display area where most apps can be "pushed into".
The launcher only allows for Google Maps (and Yandex Navigator IIRC). König (Booroondook) made an app that allows you to alter that configuration setting (it is nothing more than that, but very cleverly found by him) to make it possible to display almost any app there.

If this display area didnt mess up Google Maps, when using it full screen. Than actually I would have though its a nice feature, to have a map on the car launcher. Actually when ordering, I found that home screen looked kinda cool.
But in daily usage, I feel it's a bit of a gimmick. On Wednesday I'm going try these things out, mentioned in this topic. I'm taking a bit of break, of everytime sneaking out to the car for testing stuff.

That was my opinion already when it came out first on the CC2. It is just eye candy. In practice it makes your launcher more rigid instead of more flexible.

Which launcher are you using currently then? I don't feel the need, to really change it: but at least I wanted that messed-up Google Maps gone.
AGAMA Car Launcher - Apps on Google Play
Home screen for car multimedia systems for Android OS (30 day TRIAL)
play.google.com
But I though of trying Agama Car Launcher, only you need to pay for it. That would kinda stop me, even if I can try it for 30 days for free. Currently I'm just using UI 29 with the little speedometer.
Thanks to the "Frontapp for Teyes" I was able to replace, the Frontapp with Spotify. So that means Spotify is running in that space instead, and than Google Maps runs normally.
Just the Spotify controls somehow don't display in Google Maps? ( yes it is, in landscape format on my phone, it doesn't control the Spotify controls either ) Could it be because landscape format? So tomorrow when driving to Den Haag, than I will be able to test Google Maps straight from the headunit.
Hence not draining my phone's battery: Android Auto uses a lot of battery from the phone, as the process finds place on the phone. So it would drain your battery, and with wired Android Auto the phone would hardly charge.

No offense, but Launchers are of such personal taste. I now use Nova Launcher but I have used CarWebGuru for quite some years (paid version). That doesn't mean I want to steer anyone to any launcher.

I know Nova Launcher though: used to use it with my Huawei phone, as I didn't like the stock Launcher so much. Highly customisable as far as I remember, and no limitations that these Chinese built-in launchers have.
For now I'm fine with these Chinese flashy launchers, even if they contain a lot of gimmicks. Anyway how to avoid that the headunit keeps changing to the default launcher? Without the need to flash something on a USB stick?
I have UI 29 now set, but when I switched the ACC on to install that app in order to fix the messed-up Google Maps. Than the standard UI was back, but after I changed Spotify to be in that front app. On that moment UI 29 was displaying again. I'm not sure if it's going stay like that.... if yes than its a nice by effect from this app.
If it keeps changing back you can ask me.. I posted a fix (looks like it) on the other topic.
