Depends on your needs I guess.. a more "hackable" phone (Nex4) by a somewhat crap manufacturer in my opinion.. (LG -.-) or like a more powerful phone.. and I assume coming from this Samsung phone.. (Blaze) you'll find the Note 2 more... native.. I think is the word...? Lol. I'd go with the note 2... or wait GSIV or something. (;

Fwiw the note 2 has a few blaze folks if familiarity is a factor - ptmr has a few of his jedi roms, and I've muddled something together as well.
Yeah I heard the nexus 4 has a speaker issue with buzzing. Plus its lg, need I say more.
The note 2 is freaking massive IMO its a mini tablet I could of got a pretty new one for 250 off contract but it was just not my cup of tea sweet phone but me I really don't want a phone much bigger than 4.5 inches and that thing is 5.5 ugh... me I'd go with the nexus 4 u get aosp 4.2 out of the box and the screen is beautiful on the nexus 4 it has better than HD res it blows the iPhone 5s retina away... Go Google...but I have had bad experiences with LG phones but have heard good things about the Nexus 4 and a few bad but any phone will have arguments for both sides u just have to do a pros and cons list and read reviews and try them both out... just holding the note 2 I knew I'd drop it waaay to much and I wouldn't have insurance so... but put me down for a nexus 4

Nexus hands down. The Ubuntu for phones will be out (meaning the nexus phones will get early release soon) and that will be one of the prime phones to test it on. I know it will be out for others, but the nexus line will be the most updated. I personally feel the gn2 is too big to keep in my pocket, but that's me.
Yeah the size of the note 2 is definitely not for everyone and should definitely be taken into account in the decision process. N4 wasn't available when I got the note 2 though so my choice was easy lol

Just wanted to see how you guys are liking the device. Do you guys feel satisfied and happy with it? The specs are minimal in terms of an upgrade I feel so I'm having a hard time justifying it.
I'm currently in a position where I can take an upgrade and give my father my S3 (he is using an old Iphone 3g) and purchase an S4 for myself. Of course there is something in the back of my mind that says wait and see what other phones will be released but I guess you can play that waiting game forever in tech.
S4 or HTC one based on ur preference.. Don't see any spectacular phones coming out in the near future.. I upgraded from the s3 and I'm a very satisfied customer.

I have had every Galaxy S phone released. When I moved from the s2 to s3, it felt like a BIG upgrade since the screen increased. But the processor didn't "feel" like it was a big upgrade. Now that I have the s4 coming from the s3, it is reversed for me. The screen size was negligible, but the processor is hands down much much faster. It is nice to be on the latest 4.2.2. also, but we know how carriers take forever after the manufacture release an update... so who knows if we'll always be on the latest OS (won't be from ATT ).
I am really happy that I grabbed the s4 after having the s3 for a year. If your itching for an upgrade, the s4 is worth it imo. But if you could hold out, see what Google will release in Oct. (I use that as a marker since the Nexus 4 was announced last Oct.).
I come from the S3 also. At first I didn't really like it, but now with custom ROM's its much snappier and I feel its a great improvement over the S3. The screen clarity is incredible.

I might as well bite the bullet and do it since both my father and I will benefit.

How funny, I did the exact the same thing except I used my dads upgrade since he didn't really need an S4. I am really happy with my s4, it seems so much faster than the S3 and I LOVE the screen. I'd say its worth it from the S3 but I am also curious what kind of phones will come out later.

My absolute favorite thing about the S4 compared to the S3...is that the S4 has a flat screen like the S2 did. This means that screen protectors dont look crappy and that cases fit better than they did on the S3...
That seriously closed the deal for me.:laugh:
I still have my old i9300 international S3 and my new i337 ATT S4. I'm loving the higher screen resolution. Yes the actual screen size is only a marginal increase, but it's very clear. However, the S3 screen was pretty nice as well and the only reason I can really notice is I have both and can compare them side by side.
My international S3 also doesn't have LTE so that's another thing I really like about my ATT S4.
I don't regret the upgrade, but I wouldn't be put out too much if I had to switch back to my S3 for some reason.
I have both S3 and S4 along with note and note 2.
I see a difference in the CPU. The screen on the s4 looks better in the sun vs the s3. Plus why wait while at is giving u 100 for a trade in. and Walmart gives u a 50$ gift card and it is 30$ cheaper already

similar thing here; GF and i had GS3's, my folks had iPhone 3Gs. we got GS4's, they got GS3's. GF and i both have very sharp eyes and work in similar industries; screen on GS4 is way better. The extra sensors i actually use, and the IR blaster/remote function is fantastic. It will be worth it more for your dad; the iphone 3G is ancient now.

I agree ..what I did is trade in my note and a my s3 and the s4 cost me nothing also was enough for a 35 dollor choice of a case and a screen savior all said and done it cost me like 16 bucks ..victory:thumbup:

Had the S3 for a week and a half. AT&T employee kept trying to convince me it wasn't worth it. That I would be wasting my money. He couldn't have been so farther from the truth if he tried.

I agree with the overall sentiment. The upgrade to the screen is enough to be honest. But it does feel speedier while having slightly better battery life at the same time.
I sold my S3 on swappa and love this S4.
Thanks for the feedback yall, making me feel much better about my decision. Like someone said, my Father will be the real winner hear jumping from an old iphone 3g to the S3!
I also need to look into this deal that I saw get announced today by AT&T about buying a S4 and getting the Galaxy Note 8.0 for $199
The S4 is 3x better than the S3...I still have a s3 and it rocks..but nothing compared to this device.

Ya its way worth it sold my s3 and used my contract upgrade plus traded att my s2 and got my s4 off amazon for 168 so basically I got a new phone and made 200+ dollars

I actually miss my s3. The paranoid android ROM worked flawlessly on it. I did get my s3 6 months after it came out though so the Roms were running good by then. Right now I'm just using stock rooted. Hopefully something stable is released when the Google edition is out for us.

So, I know that people are comparing the S3 to the S4 and why one should spend the extra money on a S4 if they don't already have an S3.
I'm not gonna argue against the fact that the S4 is a better, faster phone. However, as I'm nearing my upgrade date, I'm comparing the two phones to see which phone I would be happier with.
There are a few factors that have helped me make my decision. The most prevalent being the price. For the price of the S4 and what you get, the value is outstanding. Just looking at all of the tests and reviews comparing the two phones, the S4 is clearly the winner. But, how important is $100 to me when throwing it into a phone that edges out its still powerful predecessor? Let's face it. The S3 is still an awesome phone and has a lot of support and life left in it.
If I was comparing an S2 and S4, I would clearly go for the S4, or if the 3 only had 1gb of ram and slower processor.
As far as pixel density is concerned, I will not notice a difference. Same goes for 720p vs. 1080p, which may be the same as pixel density, but not a big issue for me.
The main reason I'm getting the 3 instead of the 4 is because I have other things to spend my money on and the 3 is still pretty awesome and a huge step up from my slow DX2.

My suggestion is if you're going to upgrade because you have a contract better go for the latest phone i do understand it might be more expansive but it's well worth IMO..

Those are the exact reasons why ai upgraded to the S3 instead of the S4 when I upgraded from the Droid Bionic last month. By the way, this is definitely a solid phone and I haven't regretted my decision or wished that I had upgraded to the S4 once. Here's what I'm doing with the money that I ended up saving. I bought a couple of accessories for my new phone and I believe that I may have used the rest to spoil my nephews and my new little niece.

the s4 most likely will NEVER have one, and a developer edition is your only option.
ATM you can only root the new sg4. no custom recovery. no custom roms.

Only if you got screwed with the new OTA then yeah (which seems to be a lot of people). I'm reading through the bounty thread multiple times a day crossing my fingers though!
And I would definitely upgrade to the s4, sell it, then buy an s3. That could net you a good $200-$300 profit.

Bingo... I would not waste an upgrade and not get the latest phone either hold off for something else or get the s4.
Buy a S3 off Ebay or CL. No since eating a upgrade for a phone you can get for $200 w/o contract

Coming from the DX2 myself last year, anything is better than it. I would go for the newest since you'll be stuck with it for 2 years and the S3 will run its course by next year. Love my S3 and can't wait until the S5.

I think the price difference is more than $100. Closer to $200... Correction, $130 if you bought either at Amazon ($149 vs $19).
You could flip a NIB s4 on Craigslist in a few hours, unless you live in a remote area.
You could make a listing NIB S4 for NIB s3+cash right now before you decide and see what offers you get

While you bring up a good scenario, I believe the best that I could do is break even. Target has the S3 at $39 vs. the S4 at $149 for upgrade price. Does anyone really think that I would be able to make much more than the difference in upgrade price?

I think most people are missing my point. All I'm saying is that I want a better phone, not the best that's out there right now. I can compare it to buying a new car as opposed to buying used. While a new car looks shiny, one that is 1-2 years old will do what I need it to do. I simply cannot justify spending the extra to get something that will last probably not much longer than its predecessor. I also don't want to go to the extra trouble of trying to sell or trade the S4 when it won't net me that much in the end, IMHO.

i dealt with this same inner struggle. being the recovery booting/flashing/romming/dalvik cahe wiping/permission fixing/ junkie i am, i wanted to insure the best experience possible. especially after having the pleasure of the droid x2. i got my s3 about a month ago, and it has been awesome already. there is no debate to be had. exactly what you said. it is MILES ahead of the droid x2. and with an unlocked bootloader, it will see development much longer than dx2 did. that is all that matters. spend your extra 100 dollars on something more worth while.

How can you say that? The phone hardly just came out, the S3 was in a similar situation. We had a locked bootloader, limited recovery and other such. You seem to forget that or not know. I was in the IRC helping Adam get a device to help unlock it. Within 43 minutes of me posting a link to donate to get him a device, he had over $700. The next week we had an unlocked boot loader.
Don't be so pessimistic, think positive.

If you cancel early, might be a good way to get a S4 somewhat cheap. Nothing will beat the 50% glitch that happened last month though.

I have a refurb one in black no issues at all it's like if i bought it new and they do look brand new as well been on it for a week and a half and no issues whats so ever very stable stock to bad it came with MF3 on it already, but it's worth buying it!

I just added a line and got one for my wife, I'll sell her S3 and use that money to buy out her first line. Total money spent $30, S3 will sell for $200, buying out other line $82. Money leftover for case, screen protector and activation fee...$85ish. Money well spent. Thanks OP! Btw I think I got the last one lol, says out of stock now that I placed my order..oops!

I went and got it because of this deal. I really didn't want to upgrade yet, but my Nexus S is really starting to show its age (bless its heart). Custom ROMs can only take you so far with a device that old. I really don't want an S4 (hardware buttons including the ugly physical home button, front Samsung branding, little dev community support compared to my Nexus S), but the deal was too good to pass up. I guess I could sell this for $400-450 (maybe more?) by the time the next Nexus phone is out. Anyway, I can't wait for it to arrive so I can experience some of that 1080p Gotdamoled goodness. I may even keep it if the bootloader situation and community support gets better.

I also came from a nexus s... Mine was the sprint ns4g variant. Haven't looked back. It was a total night and day difference between the phones. My ns4g has been reduced to a bare bones cm7.1 mp3 player.

An opinion is one thing, but dont bad mouth the community. There are developers busting their asses working on roms for free, show some respect. Or better yet learn to do something yourself

I see, you seem to think I was talking about the community. I wasn't. I was badmouthing Samsung. In regards to the community, I was simply stating the current situation of things. The community support for this phone, in which there's not much going on, is a result of Samsung's and the carriers' doing.
I'm not sure how what I said could be misinterpreted to mean I'm bad-mouthing any entity other than Samsung. Calm down, read, and stop looking for something negative.

Maybe if you sold it now...the s4s are going for 450-500 right now..mby the time the next exus comes out...prob gonna be 300-350 depending on condition...technology loses value fast...especially androids due to new and better devices constantly being released...keep that in mind

Well the s3 gsm versions are still selling for $300 and up used. It should still hold its value at least until the s5 or whatever comes out.

Just sold my skyrocket for $220 on eBay. I'd say that held value pretty well. Listing my wife's S3 today, that should sell for $250+, and I really only need it to sell for $200 in order for her S4 to be completely free including activation.

Yup, but it did sell with 2 cases plus 2 extra batteries. But still, I didn't expect that much. It was hard for me to part with my skyrocket as well, but wifey said sell it or no S4 lol. Out of respect I agreed. I don't regret it, I love my S4. I also got offered $55, and I told them I could sell it as a paperweight for that price.

Kind of off topic but those included Samsung headphones sound actually pretty good. I liked the ones that came with my S4, sounds much better than the usual crap that's included with phone purchases nowadays.

My S3 came with them. Actually right on AT&T site it says what's in the box and headphones are not listed. I thought it was kind of ridiculous since the phone wasn't cheap. That's ok though.

I don't want to keep talking about headphones but on AT&T's site it doesn't show that the Note 3 comes with them either. WTF AT&T! $700 for a phone with no headphones?!

You say that but I may be forced to get a T-Mobile gnote3 because as of right now there are no unlocked non carrier phones compatible with USA lte. Hspa+ is decent in town, but I just moved to an apartment where the atnt hspa is barely acceptable for voice. Forget about decent data speeds. May as well be on sprint. My folks house is about a mile and they're slightly better than what T-Mobile and atnt are transmitting my area.
Thanks for the video and making me even more jealous. As for headphones, Verizon does NOT include them, hasn't the GS3, GS4, GN2, and NOT in the GN3. So yeah, we get screwed by the masters of CHEAP.

Well, how cheap is cheap?
I have no idea how things are done in the US, but here in Holland, when you buy a phone with contract, at the end of the line it's never cheaper than when you wait a couple of months (after the pre-order period) and buy an unlocked, unbranded one (after some research, since there are tons of online and normal shops to compare from)...
Off course that the pre-order period, is a totally different ball game.
I am exercising will power and not being in a hurry...
