has anyone ever had a problem with the gmail app where the conversation thread stops updating after there are many replies? it'll show a new email has come in, it'll even preview it, but when i click on the thread, it shows my old email. a temp solution has been to uninstall updates to gmail, but then the factory copy starts having the same problem after a bit

Every day, sometimes twice a day, the phone will have a notification that it "found" some suggested contacts to link between my Google account and Facebook. So I link them all and click Ok. Then it comes back later again. This has been happening for months. Has anyone else seen this bug or know how to resolve it?
mine just started doing it lately and its annoying!

I don't have this problem but I don't use Google to sync contacts, I sync with my companies exchange server. I'm sure you've tried this, but maybe remove FB account and then add it back?
mine doesnt just do it with google. it also does it with the ones that are synced via tmobile as well. i may try deleting the facebook sync and start all over. funny thing is i froze my facebook account a few weeks ago via my pc and when i unfroze it, i had to delete the sync and re-add it for it to work again.
Hi!
Since a couple of versions back Facebook is not updating what i write at once, and when i get a notify i can't see the answer when i am entering the facebook app just in the notify is it readable.
Am i alone at having this problem?
Sign out and back in, or reinstall the app.

I've done the following in the past to resolve issues. The facebook app sometimes acts kinda screwy for whatever reason.
menu>settings>applications>facebook>clear data
thanks both, will try the log out first and then clear data...
I've have now tried both ways but still the problem remains.
I have had no problems with this update except for 1...
I cannot permanently delet e-mail. It uploaded a bunch of old e-mails as "new" and everytime I delete them they come back. EVERY email I delete comes back after a few hours.
Is there a setting I don't know about? Is there something I can do to permanently get rid of e-mail messages?
Thanks!
Please be specific
Can you please specify which mail account you are facing this issue with and describe in great detail step wise, starting point 1 until the issue cropping up with some screenshots to understand the problem better.
If I were to talk like a typical company technical help associate it would sound like this "Do a factory reset" but lets see what you come up with to help you further.

Have you turned on the sync??
your issue sounds a lot like you delete the mails but the app doesn't sync it and hence they don't actually get deleted.so when you open it again after some time it connects to the server and your deleted mails come back again.

Hi all
Hope your all enjoying your new phones
Does anyone else have the same problem with gmail as me? After maybe 30 minutes to an hour i keep on getting the message that my sign-in has failed and i need to keep on entering my password, also when i delete emails they either stay there or reappear later on!
Nope, but I do sometimes get the error that it couldn't sync my contacts on the regular email app for my work Office 365 exchange account
This is what I get and it's driving me crazy !
No problems here with gmail...yet.

thanks, will try that later
Used to be a common problem with Android. The solution was what was stated earlier, remove the account and add again. I don't think I've seen that problem since KitKat...
And with emails coming back, this used to happen to myself as well. I have my Yahoo email come through the Gmail app and it used to happen all the time. Now when I get an email I don't care to read I'll delete it from the notification bar and I haven't seen it return like it did to myself on marshmallow on my s7. But I'm able to see multiple emails and still delete them individually from the notification bar now, I couldn't do that before.
So, ever since the N update on my S7 and now on the S8, my email doesn't push/sync right away at all anymore. I have to go into the email for it update. I'm not sure whyy it's doing this. I haven't set it up that way, have background data allowed, and don't have any battery saviors set up to do this...
Any ideas on this why this is happening?
Nougat's overly aggressive doze is the cause here. Fix: https://androidtutorial.net/2017/05/02/fix-delayed-push-notifications-galaxy-s8s8/
The option under Special Access you want to look at is Optimise battery Usage.
I have the same issue. I have gmail set so that it is NOT Optimized for battery. I still don't get gmail updates (and therefore no notification) until I open the app (usually). Sometimes I do get the notification soon after the email is sent to me. Rather random.
After messing around for a while, I think it is a no notification thing and not a lack of synchronizing the emails. If I send myself a gmail, I get no notification, but I can look in my google account and see where gmail has synchronized. Then I go to gmail and the message is there.
^yep, could be related...but how to resolve?

So, I solved it by going to the app manager and disabling the gmail app. Since it is a system app, it doesn't uninstall it, but reverts it back to some previous version. That version has been giving me the appropriate notifications for every email I have received since.
I think I will look at disabling updates for gmail for a while.

I deleted data for the app. That also fixed the problem (for now anyway)
This has been an ongoing issue for me for over a year. It was an issue on this phone, my S7 edge and Note7.
Often I will see an email on my phone, read and archive it, then go about my business. Several hours later I go into Gmail on my PC and that email is still sitting there, unread.
Actually sending out an email on the phone seems to make the sync update, but other actions like reading, moving, or deleting emails doesn't. I've had times where my emails were still unread on the Gmail website 12 hours after reading them on the phone. I have the app's battery optimization settings turned off, and I have even gone into the app several times during that period and pulled down to check for new messages. It's pretty awful that the sync has such serious issues and nobody is fixing it.
Deleting the app's updates doesn't work for me. It might fix the issue briefly, but it always comes back pretty quickly, even without any updates to the app.
The only thing that fixed the issue for me was installing an app called something like "Gmail Push Fixer". It worked wonders on my S7 edge. Unfortunately, the app requires root so it isn't an option on my Snapdragon S8+.
