its a comeback, saying google said that now android will be optimized to run on older devices. They are trying to get the latest versions of android on all android phones, not just nexus devices:laugh:
But it would be great if google made a generic build, like how ubuntu is. It could install on any device

if s ii plus will receive 4.4 that would be awesome because i will keep it for next 3 years :good:
but it's bad for companies like Samsung
so it won't update to 4.4
that's my logic

if cm does support our device,i wont mind not getting official 4.4 from samsung (my old ace official fw stop at gb,but xda support made it last till 4.2 )

There's no need for that mate. There are many stupid questions here, but calling someone stupid is just not necessary.
Wouldnt it need NFC as well?
My bad thinking of wallet...
Unfortunately Honeycomb and below is "dead" development, people are focused on doing more on ICS than anything.
When Eclair rolled out, development stopped on Cupcake and Donut, and now its quite hard to imagine someone still working on those old versions of Android. Well, looks like GB, HC, and Froyo is in that boat.
I suggest you get a new phone. (I need one too. I'm still stuck on gingerbread)

There was a Jellybean port to ARM6 devices tested on Galaxy Gio by some guy, Im sure we can make a Google Now port.
Well coming from a jelly beaned phone, you do need an arm7 and unfortunately, your phone doesn't have one. You can try porting it but it will come out with bugs.

OptimusLove,
This might make you feel better:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=29035520&postcount=2
I think you would still need to get ICS on your device, but at least your ARM6 is being shown a little love.
I'm still holding out on a gingerbread port of it, though.
How to install Google Now on my rooted Tmobile Galaxy S2 ?

I believe Google Now is JellyBean specific. However, it's up to the devs to have it in a flashable zip or apk format for ICS devices.

Ewww...that's disgusting.
But as many people feel, I do not feel that someone will actually take the time to figure out how to do it. Do remember that the framework is VERY different. But I am not losing hope that someone....someone...will take the time and get this working. ICS is not as fast as GB on my phone. However, GNow is enough of a reason for my to flash ICS to my phone every few days.
(OG Evo 4G running Decks ICS - 7.09.12 build flashed with GNow)
So GNow is a ploy to get ppl to just buy new phones, that have ICS or better?
Well that's how I see it, the majority of ppl use gingerbread, why not cater to them gooooooooogle?? Its A shame they keep creating new os's like every year or so when phones last so much longer then that.
Offline dictation should of been available back back well there never should of been a connection dependent voice(voice search, dictation, voice anything from google) or w/e.

Potential for 4.2.2. for our S Advance

Found this interesting news. A list of devices scheduled (when who knows) to get the 4.2.2 update from Samsung. It is only a preliminary list from a Samsung insider and could change. Galaxy S Advance is in the list though.

There is a possibility yes. The activity level of the dev/mod community for the SGA is not the highest though. Might take some time untill we even get some real custom roms based on 4.1.2. Custom roms based on Android 5.0 (or look-alikes) are even more far away...

you kinda named them all, rumors are that this is just to hold off till android 5.0. Google's wants the companies that still haven't updated there phones, to actually update them and catch up. Android 5.0 is suppose to work with more phones than any other version of android. so people who still are running on android 2.3 will be able to run 5.0. RUMORED!

Very cool seeing this forum getting started. I've had my Tab 3 7.0 for about a month and while I like it having a couple of other Tablets and two smartphones I'd almost forgotten how miserable it is working with a non-rooted device. Almost 90% of my apps require root so at the moment the Tab 3 is just a toy to play a few minor games on, looking forward to seeing this fourum getting rolling with some excellent Devs and great mods.
Thanks to all you guys and gals who do such great work and rarely get thanked or compensated for it. If a dev does some good work for you and you aren't on the donation list then consider what your getting and why you think it should be free. Nothing, including your phones or tablets are free, why should these devs, who bring your device to full functionality, not at least be worthy of a few dollars donation???
Geez, I sure got up on my soap box today, guess I'm just so grateful to see the beginnings of a journey into great work on the Tab 3 I just wanted to remind folks that our Devs work hard and they deserve a few tangible thank you's. Sorry about the soap box, just happy to see us getting started!!!!!!!!!

The recovery for the tab3 8.0 using TWRP works and is 100% functional. I have it running and full root on the tab3 8.0
The 8.0 is running 4.2.2 while the 7.0 is running 4.1.2 so besides that the processor is different as the boot and kernel which makes some differences and more all around Dev work.
Triangle Away and any other method to go back to factory and remove custom device status is not available for either device so at the moment if you root you can't go back. Hopefully it is only a matter of time before all tab3's can be fully utilized.

4.4 build coming your way

Well since no other devs are doing it, for whatever reason, I took it upon myself to build 4.4 for jflteatt.
I'm reinstalling ubuntu because after tonight I ran in to some compile errors that I cannot get past. I'm pretty it's related to the dirtied up build environment I have from building CM in the past.
So, tomorrow, MAYBE I'll get it finished... Goodnight all.

KitKat is a pretty big update in terms of what goes on under the hood. In terms of UI, not so much, but any change is welcome at this point.

As a user stuck in MF3 - This is awesome for those that can and for the ATT S4 community. Really appreciated

Pretty sure you wont be able to use the 4.4 rom he builds...its going to be based off aosp, and safestrap only allows touchwiz based roms
To the OP...good luck, not sire if youre going pure aosp or cm based or what...but good luck

how do you plan to run this on your phone? are you going to merge loki into the 4.4 kernel?i have the unlocked 337m, if you build a kernel for the 'm' variant as well (no loki), i can run some test builds for you.

More technically, if youre on mf3, safestrap only works with roms compatible with the mf3 stock kernel. It is not just touchwiz roms, as ge 4.2.2 non-touchwiz work perfectly.
I rebuilt my VM last night and did an initial sync of 4.4 sources. I'm using 4.3.1 S4 blobs from CM10.2 as well. Any reason why it wouldn't boot? I went to sleep before I started the compile...

I agree now that I've read into the Dalvik/ART switch for faster performance. I'm even more excited to see a 4.4 release now.. Thankfully I'm on MDL and can enjoy custom roms to the max potential. Cannot wait for an AOKP release with a 4.4 build, but I assume it'll be a couple months for a stable one.

Update:
Got everything setup finally, tried compiling and I'm running in to invalid local_sdk_version 'current'
Anyway, besides that, rumor is that it won't boot anyway until a fix comes, which may be today. I'll figure it out, ::crosses fingers:: :good:
I cant wait for this keep us updated
