[Q] no lock screen, notifications not showing, home key doesn't work properly. - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

I changed out the glass on my phone, shortly after doing this (but not immediately after) my lockscreen started to no longer show up. nothing happens when i press the home button unless the screen is "locked"then it takes me immediately to the home screen. i'm wondering what could cause this issue? i've tried factory reset.

nevermind i switched roms now everything is golden.. hmmm must have been a corrupted file. that seems to happen alot when my downloads are throttled by goo.im when i download over wifi.

i went to look up this issue today as i am having it again. i do the right thing before posting and search for it on the xda forums. And i come across this thread that appears to be EXACTLY what I am having issues with, i go to click on it and what do i see? That it was me that posted it last year.... Why must i fail so much
Can anybody tell me what causes this? This rom never did it before. I did a factory reset and reinstalled CarbonRom d2lte 3/27 which i was running since 3/27 without issue. And now i have this issue?

Search/Quick Search Button going crazy!

Anybody experiencing the "quick search" box coming up at random. I've had this issue since flashing to JH7 (both the unofficial samfirmwares version and 'real' version).
It literally goes crazy, goes to the quick search screen and blinks like 5 times, then stays on the quick search screen, until i press back.
I had this problem with the home button on JF6 and it went away in JH3 but now appears to be back for me in JH7
Ever since I left stock my search screen randomly pops up. I truly can't find a pattern. I used to think I was accidentally hitting it but I've seen the search screen pop up while the phone was just sitting there while plugged into the computer.
I've gone days without it happening and I've seen it happen multiple times within a day. It's very odd and bothersome!
I have the problem as well and I'm not rooted so I think its just a issue with or without root
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
I think it's a hardware issue.
First phone I got, has this problem with "home" button, sometimes 10-15 times/minute. Changed after 2 weeks, home button is fine but "search" button coming up at random, and also has random shut down issue (4 shut downs within a hour). Changed again, now this phone is perfect, no shut down anymore, no search button issue.
BTW, all three phones run stock rom, not rooted, update to JH7 yesterday and so far no problem at all.
i'm the OP, and now it happens less than it was before. haven't changed ROMs--been running Cog 2.2 Beta 7, but this has been happening ever since JH7.
i notice it gets super crazy when using the stock browser. what i've done is seriously press it manually very hard when it happens, until it goes to voice search. then do it again and again. thinking maybe the button is stuck down there.

[Q] Back button keeps blinking(and vibrating)

So my Nexus S 4g been mighty stable, til this morning. i check my bank account on my phone then all the sudden, the back button starts blinking like crazy, and everything goes back if i open anything, and the vibrate feedback can be felt like rapid fire. So I hold the button so I can actually power off the phone into recovery.
Its still blinking, so I hold it down so it sends only one signal, so i can change my kernel back from Netarchy 1.3.7 to 1.3.6 where it still does it. Repeat to Mathkids. I also wiped the cache partition, and dalvik cache for this one. havent tried stock yet.
Anyone ever have this problem. Its still doing it. Thinking about going to stock and returning phone.
And if I do return it, do I have to unroot, and relock the bootloader?
tried stock kernel, did a few backups, formatted everything agian, turned back to stock and it hasnt stopped.
did notice tho if my hand or thumb got close to the back button, but didnt touch it, it would stop blinking. maybe it needs a heat sensative calibration? it wont stop flickering no matter what
It seems to be related to this issue: www.google.com/support/forum/p/Google+Mobile/thread?tid=49e8ca84071d51a4&hl=en
Im having exactly the same problem, but with the searh button. In the Google thread a Google employee has replied, and according to him they're working on a fix (software related). This was posted a couple of weeks ago, i bet the fix is issued in 2.3.5, set to rls in the upcoming days.
For me the search button flickering seems to be related to how long the screen has been on, i.e. how warm it is. I can use it perfectly for 20-30min, but then its unusable for the next five. I discovered the relationship between screen on time and the flickering like a day ago and it may be incorrect. The Google employee says it is a software issue, but i dont hold my hopes high.
I was having this problem with the search button.
I goofed up something on the phone and ended up reflashing it back to stock like 5-6 times in the course of a night.
Ever since then, I havent had the issue pop up even once.
I also have read that it has to do with the NFC contacts on the battery cover. Someone was able to supposedly fix this by preventing the contacts from touching their corresponding contacts on the phone.

Weirdest display issue

Hey guys,
I have a really strange display issue with my Galaxy R.
I'm on CM10.1 nightly and already tried different nightlies with factory reset and wipe data/cache.
If the phone is not used for a while (sometimes even after 30 minutes), meaning it is on and screen is off, the display won't turn on anymore.
So I press the power button and the capacitive buttons light up, but the screen stays completely black.
Today I noticed that I can even use the touch screen and I could hear all sounds, I even managed to open the dialer and start typing blindly and it would make the dial sounds.
But whatever I try, the screen won't turn on.
Also, it seems when I'm connected to a charger and/or connected to wifi, this problem doesn't seem to occur.
Then I have no choice but to remove the battery, but then often I can't even start the phone.
Sometimes it takes some minutes, sometimes a really long time until I can start it again.
Usually the battery isn't drained, this only happened once.
This occurs after I dropped the phone twice, so it might be related to that.
(Though before I've also dropped it and this never happened.)
Any ideas?
flash stock ics and see if problem persists.
once i flashed a custom rom and faced this issue, reverted to stock and now my device is running with zero issues.

I tried to find the stock rom online, but all links seem to be down.
Do you know where I can get it?

You need to register and then download from here.
Thanks for that, I installed newest stock rom.
Could boot fine, set up the phone, put it to the side.
One hour later I checked it - same problem again.
Capacitive buttons flaring up, screen not.

Then you should visit SSC. They can only repair your device.

[Q] Strange issue.

I am having a really strange issue with my Blaze. I am not sure if it is a hardware problem due to a faulty USB or if it is from the Rom. I put a new jack in a month or so ago. I started using tthaz777 stock ICS 4.0.4 shortly after. A week ago the phone prompted me for an update, I declined it because I didnt want to loose my root. The next day I received another prompt, I accidentally confirmed so I did a battery pull. On reboot I got the expected message the update failed, but everything was working fine with 4.0.4. Next came a Simpsons update, I got the dreaded not enough space error (even though I had plenty). I read to clear the cache to solve this so I did and everything installed fine. About an hour after that my Home button went all screwy. When pressing home from inside an app (or while on a home screen to jump to the main home screen) instead of taking me home I jump to a different screen I have never seen before. It resembles a lock screen, except I don't need to swipe the screen to get by it. Hitting the back button or the X brings me back to the last app I was in. I figured it may have been something from either wiping the cache or stopping the update. I went to recovery and wiped cache and data and reinstalled 4.0.4. Seemed to work, for a few days. I did some app updates and out of the blue it started up again. I reinstalled after a complete wipe and it didn't solve the problem. I noticed sometimes it will do it while charging but go back to normal as soon as I unplug it which has me thinking I have a bad solder joint from the jack install and it is some type of charge screen, but I don't ever remember seeing it before and can't find a matching image on the net. I tried going back to 4.0.2 to see if I could duplicate it but the camera is buggy and it is painfully slow. I guess I'll have to try a KitKat versoin, which I despise to see if I can get it to happen again. Anyone had similar problems?

Home button not working????

Anyone have a problem with there home button not working after taking the lollipop ota from Verizon. My m8 works flawlessly but my buddy says his home button doesn't work anymore on his m8. Just seeing if there was a solution to fix it. Thanks
No issues with home here. Might be a hardware failure with coincidental timing?
I booted his phone into stock recovery and then cleared the cache. Rebooted then it worked only for a bit then quit working again. U think I need to do a factory reset on it. Sounds like something is conflicting with the new update.
Hey, I just started having this problem. Phone was running fine for a whole month, then randomly the home button stops until I reboot. only stays good for about half a day. I factory reset and even redownloaded/flashed my ROM (Viper). No fix. Also uninstalled several apps that I had recently installed. No clue what's the freakin deal here. Recent apps button also stops working when HOME stops. Very frustrating.
Could be the digitizer going bad. The top of mine was acting similarly for a few days, then the top 1/2" or so completely stopped working. Had to send it in and get the screen replaced by HTC (for free).

Thank you. Unfortunately I tried that twice already. Didn't help. Thinking about doing a factory reset (instead of just wiping in Aroma) and not restoring my apps from Titanium Backup. Although I wonder what data stays behing after a wipe than can effect his. Or what app that I did restore changes the home button behaviour.
