Well, I just installed a new ROM and then once I was done, I installed Google Wallet using the wallet installer. Once I got Google Wallet setup, I went back into the installer to restore the build.prop. and that's when my troubles began. The phone shut off and then went into a bootloop. It won't go past the Samsung logo and I can't get into CWM. Not sure what else to do now .. I need help!
Chris
Pull the battery out then put it back in and boot into recovery. Hopefully you have a backup stored on your phone so you can restore from that and start over. I'm afraid I don't know anything about messing with build.prop.

If you made a backup in cwm of your current rom, then get into advanced restore and only restore system from your backup.
You have to be able to boot into recovery, volume up + home + power. Once the phone vibrates, let go of power button only until the phone completely boots into recovery.

Get into download mode then flash back to stock. Finally root, then install cwm and do the back up

i downloaded the matrix rom and i liked it but i wanted to go back to ice cream sandwhich for the day so when i tried to go to recovery it froze on the google screen while trying to get to recovery i kept trying and trying but my recovery wasnt working i couldnt get to it. so i went to titanium back up and clicked un-install all system and data because i thought it was when i restored all system and data from ICS but after i did the uninstall i kept getting a force close alot of things and i got all the way down to one and it was process.android i think and everytime i clicked force close it popped right bacj up instently. so i took out the battery and put it back in and now i cant power on my phone it gets stuck on the matrix screen. can you please help me i can only acces the volume up power button menu.
i think your just going to have to reflash. If you can get into the CWM recovery menu at least you can re flash. do you still have the zip on your phone?
im not sure all i can do is get into the bootloader menu

in bootloader it should show list "recovery". go into that, wipe/data reset, reboot. if you still cant get in, go back into recovery from bootloader and reflash
I rooted my phone and replaced all kinds of things and a installed a new launcher, but the startup time was unbearable. I let my friend tinker with it, and from the SuperMaid app, he apparently froze the Android OS (I guess he thought my launcher was an OS) before I had a chance to back anything up with Titanium. When the phone died, it won't of course won't load. It's a Samsung Mesmerize, so I have the the one file from ClockModRecover, and that's it. I tried to restore that file, and it won't. Is my phone bricked? I'm kicking myself for all of this.
Well...did you install clockwork mod recovery? Not the manager app in android, but the actual recovery? If so, did you do a nandroid backup? If you did, restore it. If you never bothered to do a backup but do have cwm recovery, do a factory reset. If no cwm then last thing is boot into normal recovery and try a reset from there. You will likely lose root, and will need to root the phone again, and keep your friend out of your OS.

recovery isn't working
When I tried to restore the nandroid backup, it repeatedly failed saying it couldn't (I can't remember if it was mount or unmount) the system. So I did the factory restore as you suggested, and when I turned on the phone, I received a text message. However, I'm getting a force close message that's preventing me from doing anything: "The application TwLauncher (process com.sec.android.app.twlauncher) has stopped unexpectedly...") When I click Force close, it just pops right back up, cutting off functionality of the phone.
Ok reboot back into recovery, wipe cache, go to advanced, wipe dalvik, fix permissions, reboot.

didn't work =(
I did all those things and the system repeatedly wouldn't unmount. I had to just go back to Froyo 2.2 with Odin. The good news there is now I can install Ice Cream Sandwich. I figure I can't do too much damage, and if I do, I still have the backup
I said to reboot not restore or flash, but I'm glad you got it all figured out. The fix permissions and caches being wiped was to try to fix the current install, not prep for a new rom or restore. At least I assumed flash or restore since you mentioned system not unmounting which only happens for that.

I rooted my phone using the guide found here on the forums. Everything went fine. I then downloaded the google wallet installer.apk , ran it, my phone restarted and would not boot all the way, It would stay at a black screen and vibrate every few seconds. I pulled the battery and now it will get to the Samsung Glaxy S III logo and freeze. I can still boot into recovery and download modes, I tried doing a factory reset, and cache wipe and system wipe from recovery but with no luck.
Did you make a back up before installing Google wallet? Do you still have a ROM on in your Sd Card?

No and no, right now im trying to use odin to flash back to stock and see if that works. I know I was dumb not to back up before hand.
Why have you not Odin back to stock then?
God bless the American people
Hi! So I was recently sitting on my phone and decided to quickly try out a new rom. Downloaded the ROM, a GAPPS package, SU, and set to work. Backed up everything as I should, made sure everything was set.
So, I flashed the rom.
I decided I didn't like it, so I went to restore my backup, and that went all fine, until I tried to restart back to my old system. I was just stuck on the google logo indefinitely. Went back to TWRP to try and clear cache/wipe and reinstate the backup, and I'm presented with a wonderful screen asking me for a password. What password? I couldn't tell you. I tried everything, and ended up having to format my storage, losing backups, pictures, everything and having to ADB push a new ROM zip and everything to even get my phone to have android on it again.
I have no idea why it asked me for a password, and thoughts? I really don't feel like losing everything again. From now on, I'll be storing a copy of my backups on my computer as well.
Just press cancel or back on the password

Tried it. I couldn't access any volumes if I did that, and that's how I got to the wipe screen in the first place anyways
