I've been searching around the forum and cannot seem to find anything pertinent. I'm looking for a SIMPLE app to allow me to just open a jpg or png file, write something on it with the stylus, and then save it. I don't need to filter anything, layer anything, or anything complicated. It would be nice if it could change the color and thickness of the line, but that's all I need.
Does anybody know of anything like this? Tried all the app stores and can't find anything like this under drawing or photo editing.
Thanks

Try free app PicsArt - Photo Studio https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.picsart.studio
Just select DRAW shown in photo and then select your photo, and you can write on the photo. You can just use your handwriting, you can change line thickness and color and the app is about15mb in size.
You have to check out the Text option. You can type a sentence around an object with like 32 fonts to chose from, Very cool.

I actually downloaded another app also called Photo Studio -- there's a bunch of them -- and then found it was the wrong one. Finally found the Picsart one, and it's not bad. Much easier than anything else I've found so far. So far can't find any way to change the thickness or color of the drawing line, but it is easier than all the other ones I've tried.
Seems like a nice simple app to just draw on jpg files would be useful, but everybody wants to write complex apps it seems.
Thanks!

Select the squiggly line above eye dropper on right side for size and the square box on bottom right under the eye dropper to pick color.
Hey, hey!
I did find that squiggly line before but thoughT it was only for effects -- didn't notice that it also applied to regular lines. I would have never found that square box at the bottom right.
Yep -- this will work. THANKS!
kkretch:
I've been using PicsArt - Photo Studio quite a bit for marking up photos last night and this morning, and after exploring many of the options have found it EXCELLENT. Although it has many features that I would never use, for my purposes it has done everything I've asked. Using the stylus is just like writing on an actual photo, but the return function lets you delete mark-ups all the way back to the original photo. The shapes feature is neat, too, because it allows inserting lines, arrows, and boxes in which you can write inside. I would gladly pay for this app, but it's free.
THANKS!

Oops, yes I was replying to your post about Photo Editor but forgot to quote the post.
Just searched the Samsung Apps site you linked to, but for the life of me I can't see it there. There is a "Photo Editor" app listed, but it's a paid app and not a Samsung app. Also, the site seems to be specific for Samsung phones, not tablets.
Thanks

I had looked at S-Note but didn't realize that images could be imported (there's no import command adjacent to the export command). After poking around I found how that could be done, and it does work. But after saving the image ends up embedded within the S-Note page rather than being saved in its original format.
The PicsArt Photo Editor works much better.
Thanks.

I use the Read It Later extension for Firefox heavily, and have always missed an WM App that would allow me to read the pages I've marked on my phone.
Well, since I've bought the HD2 I've missed this even more...
Now, it seems that the folks that makes RIL released an API so that anyone can make its own app...
There's an official one for the iPhone, a user made for Android... and none for WM.
I've tried to make one myself, but its way beyond my "search and learn with Google" programing skills.
This way, I want ask if someone is interested or is capable of doind a Read It Later App for WM, HD2 customized, using their API.
The site is here: http://readitlaterlist.com/
It would be really nice to have a "Instapaper" like app for WM...
Thanks in advance!
Request seconded.

It's not only saved pages...
It's like Instapaper for the iPhone.
You mark a page to read later in RIL Firefox, for example, and then can access the link throught the app in the phone to read it.
The good thing about RIL is that you can mark a page in your desktop and it sincronizes with web, so, as soon as you open RIL in the phone the page is already there.
The advantage here is that you can mark pages to read in multiple PCs (I use in Vista/7 installarion in my notebook as well as XP/7 in my desktop) and still have a unified list.

It is very nice.
ATM i'm using the web version, with the shortcut readitlaterlist.com/unread . When you create an account, this shortcut will lead you directly to the reading list.
Putting Opera zoom in 100%, it fits right in the screen.
But it lacks a lot of features. It is actually just a list of links. You have to manually check read itens, press and hold the link if you want to open in another tab.
What I miss the most is some options to store the pages for future references. Now I have to manually do this... It would be nice if the app allow us to send the pages to another apps...

Thanks anyway... I'm kind of resign that this won't be done.
Using the web version. Not perfect, but does the job.
I have not used this application/service before, but it looks interesting.
I have checked the API and it looks very simple to use.
The only thing that remains before starting to code is to have a rough design of the application GUI, just to set a rough scope on the functionalities.
Then I believe it is possible to create an "ugly" but functional application in a few days. I can work on this project if I can manage to allocate some spare time on this.
zefiltrin, I think you know the usage scenarios of this application way better than me, as I have not yet used it. Why not make a few sketches for describing the GUI of the application you want to see on your PPC. I mean the buttons, lists, etc. Then I would try to realize them (again, if I can manage to allocate some spare time on this)

I´ll do that! I'm travelling until april 4th, but will try to do that as soon as I come back.
I think I´ll use some of the screeshots of the existing apps for iPhone and Android.
Thank you for your help!
Well, here are some ideas:
I think the home screen should look like iPhone's Read It Later app:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
The list of things to read could be similar to GReader site, with big letters, two or more lines to allow seing the whole title:
In the "Greader-like" list abobe, there shoud be a search bar and the buttons to direclty mark as read or show the text only view, like this:
Finally, it would be great to have the sharing options like iPhone app (don´t know if the API allow that):
Let me know if this helps...
Ok I will spend some time on this tomorrow.
I started working on this project, I call it "Late Reader" for now. Any better name suggestions are welcome. I think I can post a first beta or alpha in a week.

I was trying to find one for school that allows me to type AND draw all on the same note (like for Math class where I need to type definitions and draw graphs) The only one that is close is freenote but it always says it runs out of memory and loses my notes. I can't find one that does both keyboard and drawings in one. Anyone have a suggestion? Thanks!

I've been using Evernote for years and really like it. It's like a blank canvas for you to create your own method of organization. It took me a why to create a folder structure that worked for the various things I need to keep track of.
Springpad is another good one out there. It has some prebuilt organization structures that will help you get started much quicker than with evernote such as a blank notes, tasks (with check boxes) and the ability to add items via search or scanning a barcode.

Has anyone tried pensupremacy..I haven't but curious how it is?
I spent a few weeks trying to figure out a good set up for class notes..
Check out Freenote. IDK why nobody else suggests it, but it lets you do everything. you can record sound and input them, take pictures, take video, and put all these things right in the same note.
You can write with a stylus, and after each word it automatically shrinks it to whatever font size you want and in line, so that you can write big and clear.
You can draw free hand.
And you can type right in the same lines as all the above.
Its by far the best note taking app available that I have tried; and i have tried literally every one of them listed above.
The other app i would suggest is Repligo Reader. If your classes are anything like my classes, they give tons of notes on PDF. Well this app is a pdf editor, you can draw on them, and input text boxes to type in, and then save it all within the PDF.
Hope this helps

Thanks for the input, but I mentioned that in the OP. I get the out of memory issue in Freenote all the time!
usually i just use the default office app that comes with the Transformer to take notes... typed notes that is... not handwritten.
I am kind of frustrated by the lack of a school-oritented notes program that features both typing and drawings.
After over a month of searching, I found freenote to be the only program sporting both features, and unfortunately it is incredibly buggy, has a terrible UI, and just looks ugly.
My work around has been to use ezPDF Reader, which by nature is a PDF annotation tool. I created a series of 40-page blank pdfs and open them up in the app. From there I can add text boxes, hand drawings and pre-set drawings...with them saved as PDFs. It has worked so far but ultimately it is really ridiculous that no one is capitalizing on this. The Applestore sports dozens of applications that do this and I have no clue why all we have available is Freenote. Missed opportunity right there.

Im suprised you have so many issues with freenote, I use it daily and have never had an issue
I agree there is tons of room for improvement though, both in free notes interface, and the need for other options in general.
when do you typically get the out of memory issue?
is it adding multiple pics, and documents to your worksheet?
or just continuing on the same page forever?
or just random occurances?
I typically do one page per section, so they remain fairly short, and rarely add more than one or two pics to a page. I just hand draw stuff instead of taking pictures.
Off curiosity, whats your favorite stylus?
I love Colornote on app market

I think SuperNote is the best note taking app..
is very similar to FreeNote in the functionality (text, handwritten, drawing, insert picture, ...) but has a beautiful tablet interface..
+1 for AntiPaper Notes HD that someone has mentioned in this thread that is a good alternative in case you don't like SuperNote..
Writepad Stylus is nice, it has palm detection so you don't have to worry about awkwardly floating your palm over the screen as you write. And typing support too!

Agreed!!

I completely agree. SuperNote is awesome. It does everything the OP requested and is free.
SuperNote is great, but it lacks RTL support. Writepad doesn't care much what language and direction you're writing.

Hi everyone,
I have recently published a new app called Friend Brush. Using this app you can create collages of smaller photos that look like a single photo when seen from distance (or zoomed out). You can pick your tiles from various sources, namely Facebook, Google+, or your device's gallery. For the big picture, you can either choose from your gallery or simply take a photo with the camera. Below is a sample of what can be done using this app:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
I would highly appreciate any feedback, especially on stability and user experience of the app.
Download from Google Play
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=annahid.apps.friendbrush
In case there are some issues in the public release, you can try bleeding-edge beta versions of the app using one of the following options:
OPTION 1:
Become a Google Play beta tester for the app. I have enabled beta testing for XDA Android App Testers Community.
OPTION 2:
Download the testing version from my official website. This version has all the basic features of the app, plus a report button you can use to contact me about a bug.
If you like the app, please make me extremely happy by tipping this to XDA Portal!
Friend Brush has just been updated. Now everyone can choose large tile photos. I also found some bugs in the previous versions and fixed them.

Thank you for your interest and your idea! Feedback like this helps me understand better what exactly users are looking for. Friend Brush was originally using just friend profile pictures for tiles (hence the name), and using photo albums was a late decision. So that part is still not mature enough. I will think about your idea to incorporate it in a user friendly way. Might not be in the next update, but for sure I will do it in the future. And if you like the app, I would be really glad if you rated it as I'm currently being stormed by haters on Google Play.
Thanks again!

Fantastic App! A few suggestions if I may.
1) I couldn't find anything that show's the full list of Premium features.
2) A little "help" about what the settings do would be useful. Like the random options of none to maximum. I tried both settings with the same brush and picture yet saw no difference.
3) It was not clear where the app was saving the creations or what it was calling them. Option to name them would be good. I plugged the phone in and searched the internal storage for "friends" to find where they were.
4) It would be great to be able to "favourite" the tiles you pick for the brush. In that if 2 tiles have virtually identical colour tags it would choose the 1 you marked higher priority. Although this is ofc a very minor suggestion
5) A bit of a "Tutorial" for want of a better word, more like basic help. As in the recommended number of tiles for the brush to get good results. I had about 200 of my little son and tried to make a creation out of that but the creation picture was poor. It was not really possible to make it out, this is most likely because of the lack of colours the app had available to make the creation because i had too few photo's. A little tip about this might stop people using too few and discarding the app as useless just because they didnt give it a fair shot.
6) Scrolling down the photo's in the creation is very slow (Xperia Z), maybe its possible for it to cache/thumbnail those. I have around 300 pics on my phone but it took a fair amount of time to scroll to pick a creation photo while it was loading them. It processed the brush and creation faster than browsing the album
Please dont take any of that as negativity, just suggestions. The app is absolutely brilliant and truly 1 of a kind!
Thanks
Adam
thanks for this wonderfull app....

Thank you. How much are you zooming? Tile sizes are limited (32x32 pixels by default). You can set them to twice this size (64x64) by going to Settings. Hope this helps.

Fantastic App! A few suggestions if I may.
1) I couldn't find anything that show's the full list of Premium features.
2) A little "help" about what the settings do would be useful. Like the random options of none to maximum. I tried both settings with the same brush and picture yet saw no difference.
Thanks

Thanks for your comments and your interest! I will answer your questions one by one here:
1) Did you click on "Why?" The button is available on the Google Play version, beside "Go Premium!" on Dashboard
2) There are Help pages about everything in the app. Just hit the menu button and choose Help from overflow menu. You can swipe to the screen you desire. Otherwise go to Settings and choose Help from there.
3) The app saves the creations to Pictures/Friend Brush on your external storage. Naming option can be added in the future.
4) I am thinking of new options for tiles for future updates.
5) Obviously the app can't do magic. 200 photos is a good number if they have diverse color tones. Camera shots normally have very flat range of colors. The app works best with profile pictures of your friends. About 300 profile secures a diverse enough spectrum.
6) I will look into that.
About:
This is a port of ChameleonOS' contact identicons feature (available in the JellyBean versions) with some additional features and fixes.
When enabled, new contacts will be assigned a unique identicon instead of the default picture.
Features:
Use identicons for newly created contacts. A service is normally used to detect new contacts. If you use the Xposed Framework, you can enable Identiconizer! as a module instead to integrate the application into the system.
Choose from five different identicon styles: Retro, Contemporary, Spirograph, Dot Matrix and Gmail.
Specify the identicon sizes, from 96x96 up to 720x720 (256x256 max on ICS.)
Choose a custom background color for the created identicons.
Create identicons for all contacts without a photo in one go.
Remove identicons from all contacts that have one set.
Contacts list to add/remove Identicon to/from wanted contacts only.

FAQ:
Q: Will this work on XYZ?
A: It should. Try It And See™ - if there are any issues, please report them.
Q: Is this on the Play Store/Xposed repo/…?
A: No. Uploading to the Xposed repo makes no sense since this isn't primarily an Xposed module. I'm not interested in uploading to the Play Store right now as I see no benefit (added support, more unhelpful users, I prefer a forum for discussions, etc). You can subscribe to this thread for updates, the title will be updated to reflect the current version.
Q: Can we have random cartoons/different icons set?
A: Cartoons and icon sets will not be implemented. You're welcome to offer suggestions that can be implemented without needing image files (so basically, anything with simple geometrical shapes and/or text.)
Q: I found a problem. How can I report it?
A: Explain what your problem is - what have you done? What is the expected result? What do you get instead? In other words: include a detailed description of the problem and instructions on how to reproduce it. Also mention what Android ROM/version you're running, and include a logcat if possible (this is necessary if I can't personally reproduce the issue.)
Thanks:
The ChameleonOS Open Source Project and 0xD34D for code and resources used in this application.
rovo89 and Tungstwenty for the Xposed Framework.
TiiXel for his contributions
Awesome!

How can I revert back? I have removed it from exposed but it still has changed icons.

As it's very clearly explained in the OP, the Xposed module is used to create identicons for new contacts - just that. If you don't enable it, a service is used instead.
Read the OP for the answer to your question. Or just open the app.

Yes I know it is clearly explained, I have read it. After first using it I tried to remove them, that didn't work, I then tried to change them to another design, that also did nothing, which is why I asked whether there is a way to get rid of them.

They're normal contact photos, so you can remove them as you'd remove any other contact photo: edit the contact, tap the photo thumbnail, tap remove. It might vary a bit depending on your contacts app.
What do you mean by "didn't work" and "did nothing"? Are none of your contacts affected? Can you provide a logcat?
Quick update, 1.0.1: the Xposed module wasn't working properly as I had the wrong package name entered (renamed the package at the last minute, relied on the IDE to change it too much.)
Note that this will cause your settings to be reset, too.
So glad I stumbled across this. Thanks so much man :highfive:
Is there anyway to get the default contact pictures set up similarly to how it looks in Hello SMS? It puts the letter(s) of the contact in a colored bubble. Very similar to how email/gmail do. Would love to have this across the phone's contacts when no picture is available. But not sure how to go about it.
nice work

It is possible, but I don't think it belongs in this app as what you're suggesting isn't an identicon.

Then choose a smaller size. Identiconizer! allows you to pick any supported size by your device, but it can't do anything if it's too large for most apps to handle. Same thing for the storage space, better keep an eye on that if you want to use huge sizes.
Update:
1.1:
Added "Contacts list" activity to manually manage contacts.
Some minor changes (e.g. show Identicon size in preference summary.)

Awesome module! I love it, especially as someone that gets super annoyed when my contacts don't have a picture...
Don't know if you're aware though, but it doesnt seem to create icons for contacts imported from my linkedin account. I dont know how other accounts and contact information is stored, so I'm not sure if this is an option but it would be cool if you could make it work!

Does this also happen if the Xposed module is disabled? Also, can you see these imported contacts in the "Contacts list" option?
Amazing
This is awesome. So excited to try this! Thanks
Great idea @GermainZ ! Have you planned to publish it in Play Store? This is easier to get updates
different way
I've been doing this for almost a year now. I just use icons from the icon pkgs I dl.
Many images to choose from including letters, symbols... and most are perfect size.
Wow, this looks vaguely familiar.
Nice to see open sourced software getting some additional love.
Hey guys
I was wondering what the best and most complete picture editing app is.
I've used many different apps like snapseed, Pixlr Express, PicSay, PicsArt, etc...
I'd like the app to have a complete set of features and full resolution editing.
Features like remove red-eye, cropping, rotating, effects, overlays, lighting effects, blur, contrast & brightness controls...
Any suggestions are welcome!
Thanks in advance
With those requests, I'd say your best bet is to just use a PC. Photoshop or GIMP maybe.
Can't say I've ever seen an app for a phone that sophisticated. :/
I guess I'll use Pixlr Express since that has the best collection of features I like in an app
Thanks though!
Pixlr looks good. To bad it doesn't have video editing...
I use VSCO app.
You can try using PhotoShop app not the express but the paid version.

Handy photo has a very complete set of tools that should match your requirements.
If you actually want to do serious editing and not useless stuff purely for social media then do it properly with Photoshop on a PC, lol.
ive been using picsay pro now for almost 6 years. when they just started up, it wasnt an editor app, it just wrote stuff on your photos. then a year later they merged with another company and became what it is today. its one of my favorite apps as well, gets a huge amount of use

when youre using your mobile constantly, transfering your photos to your desktop to edit them is a huge hastle. some, like me, dont even own a computer. and many of these photo editing apps are as good, or better than photoshop for the desktop.

You can't really say "better", it's just more convenient/preset-automated for basic things I guess personally I don't really like any mobile image editors and if need to touch something up then I'll do it manually in Photoshop because I have more control
For social media most mobile apps are fine and convenient, but I'm not into that. :angel:

every single one of my images goes through PicSay Pro. better.. yea, i can say that, and less hassle is part of it. remember, better isnt precise, better is what best for me, since i was posting. really, all yoy have to do is properly learn how to use the specific photo editing app, because if you dont know how to use it, its would suck then. anyways, back to desktop Photoshop.. i bet i can do everything that you can do in your desktop photoshop, but ill do it all on my phone.

Maybe for basic stuff like color correction and whatnot. But if you wanted to change an image taken during day to look like the middle of the night, yeah no, good luck with that on a phone. Not the most difficult in Photoshop either but still quite challenging for most. Maybe better for you because of the convenience and ease, but definitely not for me as sometimes I may do complex renders where fine control/tools is needed.

Do it then edit an image where the sun is also visible, change it to a moon, and change the entire atmosphere to be night-like. And accurately enough that one wouldn't think it was edited.

Not too bad
VSCO Cam®. Use Lightroom if you'd be willing to be more dedicated and on a pc.
recently i came across a friend asking for a powerful photo editor that did layers and stuff
another friend suggested Handy Photo..... downloaded the lite version, watched some of the tutorial videos..
after using it, i ended up buying the full version without question,thats how good it is.
i can not believe i never ran into this before... very very powerful editing app,.... its like photoshop and lightroom but just in mobile.
very good for mobile editing. u have to check it out
@simms22 Oh boy did you ever shut me up. I too felt as if mobile editing was yet to be up to par with a desktop editor like Photoshop. But now I learned I'm just not using my phone correctly.
Guys.. try pic say PRO
I think it is the best -in market- ... u can try picsart too
