So I recently went to Viper 4.0 and it was running just fine. I had recently just S-off'd the phone and everything was going good. Then it reboots twice in a short amount of time and now I can't get it to turn on (have tried the volume and power and nothing happens). When I plug in the charger I don't get any lights. When I plug it into the computer I hear the computer do it's sound when USB is plugged in but I just get an unknown device in device manager.
Is there anything I can do to get this phone working. I already have a Nexus 4 on the way but I would love to clear this phone off and sell it if possible. Even if it doesn't work I would love to sell it on ebay but I don't feel safe with all the info just sitting on the phone. Any help would be greatly appreciated, and let me know if you need more info and I will try and dig up what I can.
It doesn't show up as QHSUSB_DLOAD on your pc? If not it could just be the power management bug. Try charging it for a few hours (ac outlet) and powering it on. If it doesn't power on normally try holding volume down + power for a minute.

Doing this now. I left it plugged in last night and still didn't get it to boot up this morning but I left it plugged in and will try again when I get home from work.

Hello! Last night, my phone died while I was out. When I got home, I plugged it into the wall charger and I noticed the LED didn't come on. I left it charging overnight for about 6 hours and tried to turn it on - no luck. I read on another topic that you needed to charge it to ~2% through USB for it to begin charging on the wall if it's "too" dead, so I left it on my laptop for an hour but again with no luck. I did notice that my laptop couldn't recognize a device though, and since my phone was the only thing plugged in, it means my phone was 'on'. I held the power button and the device disconnected, held the power button again, the unknown device reconnected. So my phone is turning on and off, so I wondered it was my screen. I turned it on, but no sounds worked when I messed with the volume button, so I'm going to rule the screen out. Despite being able to turn 'on', I can't get into recovery and it won't truly turn on.
I'm rooted and unlocked, running a version of PA, though I haven't updated it in some months and haven't downloaded anything other than a picture or two to my phone recently, so I don't think I've bricked it or anything.
I've never used ADB or fastboot or anything like that, so if there's a solution through that I'd be happy to try it out. If there's anything I forgot to mention, please tell me!
Thanks in advance for any help I can get.
This has happened to some people. It seems like going completely dead can somehow corrupt something in the firmware in rare cases.
Open Device Manager and plug in your phone, then see what pops up. If you see QHUSB_DLOAD, your phone has bricked, but it may be fixable. Check into the Unbricking Evita thread and see if the guys there can help.
Failing that, get a warranty exchange.
Try different button combinations (hold power, or hboot combination) while the phone is plugged into the wall charger. At least one person I was trying to help, got his phone to power on this way, when nothing else seemed to work.
Sounds like you're phone is in qdl mode. i second trying the unbricking thread.
This is a HTC One S unlocked and rooted with CM 10. Last night I was using the phone and out of nowhere powered off. I plugged it into wall charger and when I went this morning to turn it on I got nothing. The orange light indicating charging does not turn on. I have tried holding every variation of the power button with other buttons getting nothing. When I connect to PC the device is not detected. As of recently every time I connect the phone to the usb or to the wall outlet, the camera's flash stays on. As soon as I disconnect the phone the flash goes off. If I hold the power button while connected via usb or wall charger the flash will turn off after 10 seconds but once I let go it comes right back on and this does nothing to turn the phone on, the whole time its black. any tips?

update any time I plug the phone into the computer or wall charger the camera light comes on and stays on while plugged in. The charge light does not come on and the pc does not recognize a device is connected. The only thing I can think of to try is to take apart phone and take out the battery, but I do not have the proper tools maybe walmart eye glass repair kit may work with with a razor.

Edit: took apart phone and disconnected battery and still nothing. just the camera flash on when plugged in via wall or usb! Any help guys!
Edit #2: took the phone apart completely there was nothing out of the ordinary and not damage of any kind. Put the phone back together and nothing. It's as if the phone has lost all of its software because it doesn't respond to the power button or any button as if the phone doesn't have a command for the button pushes. The only thing that has life is the camera flash that comes on when phone is plugged into a power source that's it.
Cant you bring it back to the store and send it in for repare?

I am sure the price of repair would not be worth the phone and there's no warranty
Never heard of this problem. You might want to try holding the power button down?
Update: out of nowhere I have the orange blinking light and the computer recognizes the device as a USB Composite Device. the phone does not power on nor will it go to the bootloader, Is there anyway to turn on the phone with the computer?
well fastboot does not recognize the phone and I tried updating the drivers and that didn't help. phone blinks orange and connects as a USB composite device but cannot power the phone on or access anything on it.
Hm, difficult.
You could try these commands in order:
adb devices
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot devices
fastboot reboot-bootloader
If it doesn't answer keep it loading for 24 hours or at least over night and then retry. Else it is bricked.

seems to be bricked, it does not come up under devices and fastboot sits at the waiting prompt. well this sucks how random to brick while normal usage
Phone doesn't charge (usb pc , charger ac outlet). No red lights. Did all buttons combinations with no luck. It gets warm by the back camera area when plug to ac outlet but battery stays cold. How to know? Motherboard or battery.
Sounds like a brick what does windows recognize the phone as?

Did you do anything to cause this condition (flash anything, RUU), or did it just happen on its own? Is the phone modded or stock?
Leave the phone plugged to the wall charger (not computer) for several hours (overnight) and try to power on again. Try both power on button combos:
1) regular power-on: holding power for a few seconds, then releasing
2) bootloader: hold power button and vol down, then release power button, but keep pressing vol down, until bootloader comes up, or you're convinced nothing is happening
Don't know what you mean by "Did all button combinations", and I don't like when people say vague stuff like this. The 2 combos above are the only ones you should be trying. Power and vol up puts the phone in Qualcomm download mode, which is not a good idea.

Not recognized by computer.
We understand that you want an answer to your question, but in order for us to do that you must provide as much detailed information as possible, your initial post was quite vague. Do as Redpoint suggested and have the phone plugged into a wall outlet overnight, try the button combinations he listed, and report back tomorrow.

Did all you said. Left the phone plugged for 48 hours, plugged it in my pc for 24 hours (no charging, not recognized) drivers installed, button combinations (hold power button and vol down, holding power for a few seconds, then releasing). Phone won't charge nor power on. This problem was after charging it and power it off by the power button.
So when you connect it to your pc it doesn't make a connection sound or show up as QHSUSB_DLOAD in device manager?

You didn't "hurt my feelings". But if you want us to help properly, you need to be specific as to what you tried (not just say "I tried all the button combos" which means nearly nothing). And the one button combo for Qualcomm Download Mode is one you do not want to try.
Try to power on (regular and bootloader) while the phone is plugged to the charger. There was at least one user here that was able to get into bootloader this way, when for some reason it would not while unplugged. There is no rhyme or reason to this. But anything is worth a try at this point, right?
If the phone still will not power on, or even show a charge LED after being on the wall charger (don't charge on the computer, it doesn't provide enough juice) for several hours, you're pretty much out of luck.
Since you said you haven't done anything to your phone, meaning rooting it, S-OFF etc. What's stopping you from getting a warranty replacement?

If the phone is still under warranty, this is what I would recommend. Some One X's have simply given up the ghost lately due to hardware failure of whatever reason.
I bought a AT&T HTC One X form eBay,the seller had a high rating and good feedback and supports returning Non working items,so i just decided to buy it.
When i tried turning it on,it didn't at first,so i thought it could have an empty battery,so i plugged it in to charge it,it remained that way for almost 3 hours.
it's not displaying any signs of life;no LED to indicate charging,no vibrating when trying to press the power button,no sounds, nothing on the screen...
I tried plugging it in to my PC,didn't end well too, when i first connected it,the "installing drivers" notification popped up for about a second, then said "failed to install drivers",i went to Device Manager from the Control Panel, the port that it is plugged in though says "Unknown Device".
I've tried pressing both of the volume rockers and the power button for about 10 seconds, didn't work,as well as pressing both volume rockers with the power button individually, still nothing.
before i tell the seller about this,is there something that i'm missing?
It took a long time to arrive and well take a long time to get replaced,so if someones got a solution, that would be great.
Also sorry if this isn't the right place to ask.
The eBay post said that it was fully functional.
Firstly, don't go trying random button combinations when you don't really know what they do. The volume up + power combo is something you should never do, it's puts the phone into Qualcomm download mode and you don't want that. The only button combo you should ever try is volume down + power, which will boot it into the bootloader. Leave it plugged into an AC outlet for eight hours and try powering it on again, both normally and with the button combo. If it doesn't respond you've got yourself a lemon, but honestly it looks that way anyway.

I left it plugged in to a charger for almost 10 hours, same thing,as well as the power button and volume down thing.
I've tried using the Cyanogen Mod Installer to see if it would recognize the device,it did,it's now downloading the Operating system,i'll stop it untill someone tells me if that's a good idea or not.
Personally, I wouldn't bother, I'd be returning the device straight away if it didn't turn on the first try.

I have a stock phone HTC One (M8) that has never been rooted. Today I pulled my phone out of my pocket and it wouldn't turn on. I've tried:
pressing the power button along with the volume up
Pressing power and volume down
Pressing power and volume up and down
I took it to the Verizon store and they said they would have to ship a refurb out to me. I wanted to check this forum to see if anyone has ideas before I get a refurb.
Thanks in advance!
Simular situation - will not power up or hold charge
Im S-off and unlocked .... I downloaded the new RUU 4.4.4 and everything was fine. the next day the battery drained completely and I plugged the charging cord in. I got the battery icon in the center of the screen and 0% life. The orange light is blinking, but the battery level doesn't change. I cannot get it to power up or get into the bootloader. Once I unplug the power cable the unit doesn't power on. if the keep the unit plugged In for a power source I'm still unable to boot. I'm totally out off ideas ... can I get someone to respond to help me out in this desperate time.

Can you try a different charger and cable? The blinking orange light is what they do when they are completely dead. Starts out blinking and wont go solid until enough charge is present to actually boot the phone.
I just upgraded to 4.4.4 as well maybe 3-4 days ago. I had been able to charge the phone a couple of times without issue right up until it wouldn't turn on yesterday.
I left the phone off the charger overnight and tried rebooting again this morning, and nothing.

Same here .. Been on the charging cord for a few days without any change in battery %.
Dodat ... Is there anyway to revive the M8 to accept the charge?

Try this:
Battery is fully charged, but the device does not turn on
Plug device into the provided HTC wall charger that came with the device.
Press and hold the Power, Volume up and Volume down keys for 1 - 2 full minutes. The battery should re-calibrate and the device will then turn on.
or
Battery shows less than 0% charge level
Plug device into the provided HTC wall charger that came with the device.
Charge the device until the LED indicator glows solid red.
Attempt to power the device on as usual. If it will not power on, press and hold the Power and Volume up keys for 10 seconds while still on the charger.
I tried this just now, nothing.
When I hook up the charger, I don't get any lights to indicate that the phone is charging.
It's like the phone is bricked, but I haven't messed with any ROMs at all. I'm completely stock and locked.

I am unlocked but am having the same problem. I've had the phone since almost launch day and it's been fine until now.....all of a sudden it won't charge. I've tried many different cables and chargers that I know work, but nothing gives.
Were you able to figure anything out? Really don't want to have to get a refurb as I don't think I'll be able to get it rooted/unlocked anymore.
edit: After letting it "charge" for about an hour I was able to turn the phone back on. It said the battery was at 30% but was draining like 2% every 15-20 seconds. Looking at the settings it said the battery state was unkown (where it usually says not charging or charging). Something is definitely doing on here, but I have no idea what. I tried rebooting to recovery from the ROM but it just shut off. Now it's doing the same thing again (0%, won't turn on). Ugh!
