I am a Crack Flasher. I've been doing it since the Fascinate. Very experienced. I recently jacked up my phone which obscured my ERI/IMEI/Google Play connection. I was able to manually re-program the IMEI using QPST....... Before, I re-flashed stock MF1. I took it to Verizon and they were skeptical and unhelpful. They said it seemed as if I altered the OS. They had no proof and wouldn't honor the warranty. Play wont work unless a previous OS (before MF1) is installed(?). I get Connection Error. I TRIED EVERYTHING!
I followed the flash to a T.
Not sure which Rom is the culprit.

Before you go accusing roms of causing your problems, maybe you should read up on how people actually lose their imei and eri in the first place. A simple search for "imei" or "eri" would've accomplished this.
If you did that, you would have been directed to a plethora of threads describing that the s3 can drop their imei randomly even without a flash being a culprit.
Next time you start flashing anything, read up on the device stickies so you know what you're doing and how to fix most problems that come up.
Sorry for the long post, I just can't stand it when people bash a rom for no reason. It wasn't that roms fault for this issue.

There's A LOT of this happening with our phones according to the forums this last 2 months.....I'm still out ERI and Play only works on ICS.....no JB roms. Very strange.....but, I love a challenge and these forums and all of the amazing info I'm finding thanks to all the intelligent folk. Verizon is out as far as a replacement. My wife and I both have Thunderbolts. I have not had this problem with mine so I am curious as to if anyone else has had a problem or if maybe she just has a bad tbolt. When she is on a call just out of nowhere the person on the other end can not hear her. This has happened when she has talked to multiple people and she has had good reception when it happens. This happened stock and on BAMF so I dont think it is a ROM problem. Anyone else having a similar thing happen, or do you think she has a bad tbolt?
I have not heard of this being a widespread issue, and I keep up with a lot of the Android forums. Sounds like a dud phone to me.
That's what I was thinking as well. Looks like its back to stock then Verizon for that bolt
I've had this problem from day 1. A bunch of different techs from VZW have looked into it and changed stuff on the backend and still no luck. :-(

I'll keep you posted on what they tryband if it fixes it. I don't have a problem with this on mine, only my wife's phone. My buddy has a tbolt also and his doesn't have this problem. So to me it sounds like a bad phone.
Thank you SO much, I really appreciate it!

OK, I remember having an issue when I originally rooted also, so I used the shipped RUU to go back to out-of-the-box stock and then reran the root process, etc, and then restored my nandroid backup. I'll make some test calls this afternoon and then report back!

You're not running a root injected ROM or anything?
That would be somewhat interesting if you're getting this from a completely stock SGS3, but it's still not indicative of an unlocked bootloader.
I too have this icon, but that seems to be because I used Titanium Backup with root to freeze some system apps that were otherwise unfreezable.
Someone had the same thing over the weekend, stock out of box, booted up with custom boot image. he hadn't done anything to it either. proved not to be useful.
This is something that's already been discussed.
My S3 has the same behavior, and several others have reported it as well, but none of these bootloaders are unlocked.
Wow, I did try a search, and maybe if there was a separate Verizon gsiii thread it would have been easier to find it...

Didn't mean to sound like a jerk, but I see how people read it that way. Edited.
Hello. I recently purchased a SIII from eBay and got it activated today. The first time they booted it up at the Verizon store I noticed what I thought was an unlock icon towards the bottom of the screen (which I am no longer seeing).
Once the phone was activated it performed a system update to the latest OS release. Now that I have got the phone home it keeps randomly rebooting and then it will get stuck in a boot loop. I pull the battery, it will boot as normal, and then it will randomly reboot again. I have performed a factory reset/data wipe but that did not help.
I did search a bit on here but didn't see anything similar to what I'm experiencing. Any ideas on what my issue is? Thanks in advance for your help.
My GS3 randomly reboots too, I am running SynergyROM with ziggys kernel, seems like a lot of people have problems with this phone.

Sounds like the phone was rooted. If it had a custom rom and you took the ota verizon update, that could cause problems.

Well I spoke to soon. It just rebooted again. I'm starting to think that it must be hardware issue. I guess I should go back to the seller to see if they'll take the phone back..... :-/

I did the ODIN back to stock (using the ROM that was in step #6 of the above link). After that booted the phone up and it indicated there was an OTA available. I downloaded that (about 30 Mb); performed the update; and then the phone seemed to start the random reboots more frequently.

I didn't mean that everybody has problems when I said a lot and maybe it isn't "a lot" but I have seen numerous people posting on here about there problems whether its random reboots or screen flashing/flickering or w/e it may be and not just here I know a few people with this phone (my wife, father, brother, mother in law, and myself.) And I have had 2 problems with this phone, random reboots and WiFi never wants to connect and my wife has the sim card issue, my dads phone has problems with screen and WiFi, idk what the deal is. That's 3 phones out of 5 that has problems and idk if the sim card issue even counts but still.
I'm not saying this is a bad phone or anything, other than these issues it has been a great phone the best phone I have ever owned.

Why are you questioning the people trying to help you?
Look either give it a try or deal with a borked imei.
The reason they are suggesting that is because unless you tried to install a vibrant rom all of the non stock based roms back up your imei and when flashing back to stock it is restored.
Again why are you questioning people offering help?

You will have better luck trying the link I posted :/ It fixed my IMEI about 15 times and I am have sent the link to many others to fix their problems. The link you posted will do you no good for two reasons. First, it is a guide about how to backup your IMEI which you already lost. (can't backup what you don't have) Second, the guide is for the Samsung Galaxy S III. If you do have a SGSIII, then you are in the wrong fourm and my link will screw your device over. If you have a Samsung Galaxy S 4G, then it will flash you back to GB rooted w/ CWM. If you are still secptic about my advice, then don't take it. Hope you enjoy a phone with no service.
Why r u ppl so jumpy?

The link you gave me was for deleting trash from my phone to save battery life (i personally thought that, maybe, you just copy pasted the wrong link), my IQ is well above average, but i guess im missing a connection between batter life trash files on the phone and recovering IMEI.

It was the correct link, and it works. What do you have to lose? Absolutely nothing. I will take all the blame if it doesn't work, but in my experience it does work. I have no idea why it works, it just does. I just want you to have a happy working phone. Sadly, I have not been on a "stock" ROM since I joined xda, so I have no idea how to fix your problem and keep you on stock. Out of curiosity, what Android version are you on now?

Well if your main point from that link is to go back to stock (you have mentioned to go part 3, which is just that) then it doesnt work..
Coz i flashed to froyo 2.2.1 and it did not help only thing that changed was that opposed to 00000000/05 i had 000000000/04 ...
I have also wiped the cache
Then i have flashed the GingerBread 2.3.6 kj6.
Nothing changes .. Tmobile doesnt accept phones with "0" IMEI.
im sure its possible to write it in .. just cant find it...

I'm assuming changing the IMEI is legal.
NO... You can fix your device though to retain the same IMEI contained behind your battery

oh! So it's like making it working again? Then why I see some videos of youtube of people getting a new IMEI?
Hello,
I just received a "pre-owned" phone from Verizon.
After rooting and testing out some roms I realized I can't make calls or text anymore. Mobile network still works.
I was on a nightly build of CM and I thought it might be a bug in the build so I switched to stable build.
After that, I am now able use text messaging and mobile network, but still no phone calls. I've gone back and forth between stable and nightly and I've tried other roms too, still no calls.
After doing some research, I realized that my MEID=000000000 (more or less), and my IMEI=0.
Could that be it? If that was the case, should texting and mobile network not work?
I will try and use odin to go back to stock, but will that repair my MEID/IMEI?
Thanks,
Adrian

You didn't backup your imei by chance did you? You can manually inject your imei with qpst (Google it for a YouTube video) or follow directions in this thread to reprovision your phone. You should also follow the link on the bottom of that thread to fix your eri if you use qpst.

You aren't screwed, it's just a hassle to get everything back. Backing up your imei fixes this issue in like 5 seconds.
Just read through what I gave you and you'll get it back.

Thanks again for helping me out.
I'm downloading the stock odin image (takes forever) and after I flash it I'll try dialing the *2767*3855#.
If that doesn't work though, in that thread you sent me, there's a link to here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=44871571&postcount=3&nocache=1&z=1185709806159138
Is this the method I should use? If so, the poster gets a little hard to understand (I can't figure out what the forbidden program is), could you elaborate?
If I could get this to work I'll make this into a sweet guide for anyone else in this position.

The labyrinth of link in the forums brought me here:
[[[[http]]]] ://adbtoolkit [[[[dot]]]] com/misc/device/samsung/galaxys3/sch-i535/#.UnyEufk_smk
(sorry, I couldn't post an outside link)
There's a file called: "Samsung_MEID_RepairV3.5.rar".. what is that? is that what I've been looking for?

I never actually looked through what he posted, but I'm confused as well. You're going to have to dig around to find that. I think he's talking about qpst though.

Maybe, it sounds like it, keep reading and see if you can figure out what it's used for.
