screen protector

should I just get the screen protector from AT&T store?

Go naked, All the cool kids are doing it.....

i bought the iVisor from the store. works great on fingerprints & glare, but kinda dulls the screen. definite loss of clarity.
took it off at lunch today w/ the plan to return it...
then put it back on, and don't mind it as much.
dunno.

I got it and I can definitely agree with argylesocks on the clarity issue. To me though, losing a bit of clarity in favor of anti-glare doesn't bother me so I'd recommend that if you don't mind losing a little bit of clarity then grab the one from the ATT store.

i got the ivisor after i ntices a micro scratch on my screen. garilla glass is hard to scratch but i work around stuff that can cut hardened tool steel. occasionally something winds up in my pocket.
the ivisor is one of the better antiglare protectors i have seen but in general antiglare will effect the screen image. well it is a trade off. some can deal with it and some cant. there are many that are worse than this one. i would recomend it to anyone that wants a anti glare protector.

that dont mean it cant be scratched. i never scratched my captivate and i had it since august, but i did get a micro scratch on the infuse already, just got unlucky. it is barely visable but i know it is there. garilla glass vs hss and carbide doesnt help much. most people wont need a protector though

I went ahead and got the screen protector they had at at&t when I get my Infuse, in fact it was given to me free of charge because I switched from T-Mobile. I was going to get the invisible shield but this was much more convenient and free. And besides, I just like that piece of mind that I know my screen won't get scratched even though it has gorilla glass.

I got the att branded (case-mate) screen protector and hate it. It's matte surface and just looks terrible, takes away from the beauty of the screen. I'm going out to BB and another att store later to see if I can find any glossy screen protectors, otherwise I'm just gonna take this thing off.

Just got the one from ATT and its a WRITERITE. Will post after i install.

I picked up the Zagg from BB tonight. Never tried Zagg before, some people love them while others hate it, so we shall see...

Well the WRITERITE is not bad at all.. still have a lil glare but can still see fine out side. This was bought at ATT at walmart.

My wife helped me to discover that gorilla glass does crack. Four hours after buying the Infuse, she dropped it on a corner and sent several, nice cracks through the screen. At this point in life, does anyone know if screen replacements are available yet?

As far as I know, Gorilla Glass is actually more brittle than regular glass and is easier to crack.. It's just more scratch resistant.

not true. it may crack with some stress risers(scratches in particular areas) but it is difficult to crack, though im sure some forms of plastic are more crack resistant.
it may be hard and you may think that makes it brittle but it actually has a huge amount of give before it breaks.

I'm using the iVisor screen protector, mostly to help my fingers glide over the touchscreen surface smoothly. It works well for that purpose and doesn't dull the image too much. Fingerprints are far less noticeable too. Dust does get trapped at the edges of the screen protector though. Still, it's worth using IMO.

I just put a Skinomi on mine a few days ago. Not just for the scratch protection, but this stuff resists finger prints and other dirt real well.
I find myself cleaning my screen a lot less with it on than before.

the soft screen protectors like skinomi and invisishield are great. we put prtectors on phones so the screen doesnt scratch, what about the screen protector? the film type screen protectors are basically imposible to scratch

I bought the ghost armor screen protector. Their screen protectors are, bY far, the best in my opinion. Been having them in in all my phones.

gs3's gorilla glass

i have not drop mine or put it with things that can scratch it, yet I'm starting to see light scratch marks on it along with two really small straight scratch. This is kinda sucks. Anyone else have similar issue?
I thought it was supposed to be strong.

On my first GS3 I had it ONE day and I put it in my jeans pocket with nothing else in it... pull my phone out and have a nice, but faint, scratch.
Lucky (or unlucky) for me, my phone had a defect so I took it back and exchanged it.
Put a Zagg HD on it right away.

I liked Gorrilla glass (1) better was more durable to scratches.my x2 with gorilla glass (1) till this day no marks and dropped it lots of times, my s3 I'm very care full heard this new gorilla glass(2) not very good even tho they claim it to be.

I had a couple fine scratches on my Droid RAZR, after about a year with no screen protector, and a dedicated pocket (no keys, change, etc). I put a screen protector on my S3 because of that. Went through two protectors before I found a good one that actually feels nice and smooth. Tried ZaggHD and it was awful and tacky feeling. Tried another thin protector that wouldn't stick on the corners. Finally settled on one from Rearth, called Ringbo
Ultimate clear plus. It was a little tacky at first but after about an hour of use its as smooth as the glass was, and has an oleophobic coating. I'll never trust gorilla glass again after the RAZR.

I bought my gs3 used to keep my unlimited. It had a few faint scratches I didn't know about until a few days after. I applied a wet application screen protector and now the scratches aren't visible. One thing I read that works but didn't try was using RainX windshield protection on the screen which fills in the faint scratches.

I prefer spigen sgp ultra clear can't even tell it's there so smooth also no tacky feeling, you can get one on eBay cheap.

Its the fine particles in your pocket that scratch up the screen. dust, sand, fine dirt, it all really does a number on that glass. I still haven't gotten around to putting anything on mine even though I do have a couple faint scratches, but I'll probably have to get something soon. I like the look of the Spigen Ultra Clear, but i'll most likely pick up whatever Best Buy has in stock.

I must sadly agree. My old Droid X with original gorilla glass lasted 2 years with no screen protector and is as good as the day I brought it home from the store. I didn' t treat my GS3 any differently and very, very quickly had light surface scratches especially around the edges/bezel area near the camera. Gorilla Glass 2 is *not* as good as original Gorilla Glass.
Screen protector on this one, which hides the damage. It still irks me knowing it's there.

Probably another 10 or so more threads like this along with the 10 or so previous ones will yield an answer.

Gorilla glass is not scratch proof. If you have sand or quartz in your pocket it will scratch the phone. The size of sand or quartz can be almost invisible to the naked eye and it will still leave scratches if you happen to rub it agaonst the screen.

Pretty much, as scratchproof != shatterproof

As prior posters mentioned, sand is highly abrasive to any glass - even coated Gorilla Glass 2. A little sand in your pocket and the phone will look roughed up without much work.
A good video created by XDA explained the strengths and non-strengths of Gorilla Glass and is hosted at YouTube, I can dig up the reference if interested.

yeah i know it aint scratch proof or shatterproof, or any of that shenanigans.....just saying with all that hype around it...you would think it would hold against little lints and such.

I like it. I just miss the feeling of glass. It wasn't slippery on glass, but now its easier to clean, and it really does work! (So far)

I too want to see the results of this. It makes me cring any time any of my phones went without one.
Some people will have this phone for 2 years with no protection or case and it will still look flawless... At least the screen. Yet others will get scratches within the first day of owning it.

Yeah I posted this because I was curious. Since I've had the phone I've had a Zagg HD screen protector on but I'm itching to go naked. I like the naked glass feel and look.

I have never had any screen protectors on any of my phones, including the S3 I have had for a few months. No scratches to speak of. Screen is pristine.

I had the zagg HD screen protector, but found myself annoyed because my fingers kept catching on the screen. Felt like rubber. When I took it off it was like magic and it instantly looked even more beautiful. Go naked!

This is the first phone that I have not put a screen protector on. At least so far.

No screen protector but do have a Draco aluminum bumper to hopefully protect it in a fall.

I use one, all it takes is little sand in your pocket, and then you have to deal with a scratched screen the rest of the time you have the phone.

Sand is the trouble, not keys and etc.

I use spg steinheil curved crystal screen protector and you literally almost can't even tell there is one on the phone at all and it's just as smooth when swiping.

No screen protector since july 12th and it looks brand new. Since my days of playing in the sand are long over, I dont see my pockets filling up with sand and scratching my screen anytime soon.

id go with a screen protector. if there wasnt that nano coating stuff on top of the gorilla glass i wouldn't use one, but ive seen way too many scratches in that coating from different people....

I'm using the Spectre and have noticed it has saved me twice! It took the shot and kept my SGS3 pristine. Pricey? Yep but IMO worth every penny.

This x100

I had the spigen ultra nano protectors. The actually tore from my daily use. Small pieces of dirt imbedded somehow and next thing it tore in multiple places. This happened to 2 of them, the second within 2 days of application.

Never use screen protectors. They grip to your finger and distort clarity in my opinion. I hate I can tell there on there. Plus I've never had a scratched screen. They normally just go straight to shattered...

LOVE it. Not to mention if anything happens to it all you do is request a new one and they send you one for FREE... Only have to pay like $3 for shipping. I've gotten 2 replacements already, the first because I had to exchange my GS3 for a new one and the second because I applied it wrong.
Zagg says they won't replace due to user error but I applied it wrong and figured it wouldn't hurt to ask so I emailed Zagg and told them that I applied it incorrectly and they actually replaced it.
Zagg HD fan for life. Some people say it's tacky... Mine isn't tacky, to me it feels like the glass of the GS3.
Not to mention I put my first GS3 in my pocket without a screen protector... Took it out of my EMPTY pocket and it had a nice faint scratch. Gorilla Glass 2...not a fan. Luckily that phone had problems so I got a brand new replacement.

I was wondering about the HD from zagg... Still seems expensive. The newest one whatever it is called seems to be highly rated, extreme or something.

How close is the screen protector to the edge of the glass?

Micro scratches on the screen?

Has anyone seen any micro-scratches on their screen since you've had your phone? I've had my phone for about a month and I'm seeing a couple on mine. It's only noticeable in certain angles under the light when the screen off , its not a big deal as I'm gonna put a screen protector on it which i probably wouldn't notice it any longer. But I am a little surprise that the screen is not as scratch resistant as I expected and I've been babying my phone from a physical standpoint.

Everybody knows gorilla glass 2 is not as good as the 1st one.,I brought a screen protector even before I received my phone lol.since pre-order have this phone not a single scratch except on the screen protector which I replace every 2 months.

I use just like glass screen protector from dba. Can't even tell it's on. It's not perfect but better than the other ones I have tried. I couldn't imagine not using one.

I use some cheap $1 China protectors from eBay and they work wonderfully, can't even tell that they're there.

pay the money and get any kind of screen protector scratches anywhere drive me nuts

+1 for this. I got 6x screen protectors for $3. Now that's [anti-]bang for your buck!

Never had them as I was smart enough to buy a screen protector the same day as my phone.

I got a tempered glass screen protector, love it.

Ive never had a problem with scratches yet. I've had my s3 for about 4 months never had a screen protector on it and I don't have any scratches what so ever.

Note 3 Display Protection

Hi there guys. Those who are curious like me to know about the screen of note 3 has gorilla glass 3 protection or not, here is the answer.
I emailed samsung customer service and they replied me back and told me it got gorilla glass 3 protection..

Does this mean I can finally get rid of the annoying screen protector and use the phone as it's mean to be used?

No. Gorilla Glass 3 is the same as Gorilla Glass 2 except it's thinner. It's only scratch resistant, not scratch proof. Sand can easily scratch glass. You may not think your around any if you're not near a beach, but sand is every where. All it takes is a few grains to end up if you're pocket or a table you set your phone on to scratch it's pretty face. If you like living on the edge go for it, but I'll continue to use a screen protector.
Maybe someday we'll come up with inexpensive and tough Sapphire screens. That's when you won't have to worry about scratches. Since the only thing harder than sapphire are diamonds.

I've never used a screen protector, on any smartphone, and have never had a scratch on the screens regardless.
What bloody idiot puts his phone face down on a table? Does that not defeat the whole point of having a screen?
On the older models with speaker on the back it made a bit of sense, (not really, because the table served as an enhancer) but not on this phone.

I live in the UAE, sand is a constant danger.
I also am heavily into off-roading. you'd be amazed where sand can get.
I have sand in my pockets, ears, nose, mouth etc, this stuff gets everywhere!
Put a screen protector, it's a no brainer for me.

It is really a no-big deal to put the screen protector on your phone.it's not expensive,and it doesn't hurt. right?

I learnt the hard way, I used the Note 1 with no protection for 12 months and sold it with no scratches on the screen. Then on my Note 2 I used a Samsung flip cover, at some point the velvet coating picked up some grit and whilst it was in my pocket scratched the hell out of the screen! Now my Note 3 has a tempered glass screen protector on, and will always have one on!

Mine came pre-scratched
But you can't see it at all when the screen is on. And when off it's barely visible, and you have to hold it just so to see it.

Check your Samsung user manual. Does it tell you not to use a screen protector? Yeah. It really does.
So: go without a screen protector if you want to, and if the screen does get scratched, bring the phone and the user manual to the store while you still have valid warranty. You should be able to get a new phone or a screen exchange.
It says it right in the manual. So if it does get scratched, use your rights as a consumer. You used your phone according to what is outlined in the manual and now it has a defect, so you get a repaired phone or a replacement. You know... That's what the warranty bit is all about.

Even the cheapest tempered is 12 bucks and provides amazing protection. Totally worth it.

I use the Spigen Glass tR on my GN3 , GS4 and GS3

Cant leave the screen unprotected. Must have a screen protector on. Save you from the regret.

I don't know why in this day and age, this common sense fact still has to be repeated in EVERY forum.
Questions on whether the screen is scratch proof keeps popping up in every forum, especially in the [Device]\[Accessories] Forum.
No Gorilla has ever liked, or likes sand up it's Arse !! NONE!

I have not used a screen protector in years. It just diminishes the nice touch screen feeling.

If someone where to carefully inspect your phone under a light, they will be able to see micro scratches scattered across the screen.

That is why we have the hardened glass protectors... It isn't that plastic feel that seems to cause more friction when using the s-pen...

It is glass.... A thin layer of hardened glass over the screen.... Feels like it's naked but gives awesome protection. Costs a bit more than the normal screen protector but well worth it...
The one I got - spigen glasT - has a few different coloured home key raisers in it too... Pick of black, clear or pink...
Oh, and the easiest install I've ever done with no bubbles... Line up on screen and then swipe finger down middle.... Lightly press out any air bubbles that are left, if some small bubbles left over, just leave for a day or two and they disappear... Brilliant....
