[Q] Any working pedometer? - RAZR HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Today I tried several pedometers (step counters) like Noom, Walkdroid, Accupedo and more, and all of them gave me about double the step count compared to how many steps I actually took. Did any one use a pedometer yet who was satisfied with the results? For a workout I'd actually use a GPS based app, but for every day use (at the office etc.) I'd prefer a non GPS app. Teh step count doesn't have to be spot on, but double the steps is way too much.
Thanks,
Mike

If you use a holster they'll be spot-on.

I bought myself an Otterbox Defender some time ago and it came with a belt clip. So I assume this would give better results, according to "using a holster", I guess. I'll give that a try, although I held the phone to my belt after I found that my results were inaccurate when carrying the phone in my pocket. I just can't see myself running around with the belt clip thing all the time. But hey, for when I really want to walk, it'll maybe work. Thanks for the input.

Yep basically what I'm talking about. Same reason pedometers you buy at the store have a clip you clip onto your pants.

[Q] best armband for exercise

I have looked around and havn't found one that was made just for the epic. I did find one that stated it was for the epic but on the picture it showed a fascinate. It seems like the Droid X one will fit, especially with my Active X case still on, but I wanted to ask before I made a purchase. So which armband do you use for your epic?
Duct tape that ***** to your arm bro.
What kind of exercise? I find armbands too restrictive for weightlifting. Ziploc bag + pocket = win.

This is what I use. I also have the Active X case. It is a tight fit and trying to actually use the touch screen is nearly impossible, but it does hold the phone and once I've got Pandora running, I just set it and forget it.

I personally use Tune Belt. It fits the phone snugly, protects it from moisture, and fits your arm nicely (There is an optional band extender for a dollar more that you can get if you've got diesel biceps)
I've had it for several months and its worked out great. I got it from Amazon for 17.95. Go there and search for Tune Belt and click on the one that says it fits Droid, Droid Incredible, and others. Thats the one I have.
Hope it works for you as good as it worked for me.

It fits great! I have been using mine for about 8 months. It is a little beat up but still fine. I run 3 miles 4 times a week. I took a exacto knife and cut a little square of plastic out of the bottom so i could use the buttons. Works great for me!

Thanks for this, but this is actually the one I found on amazon that stated it was for the epic but has a picture of the captivate. I don't mind taking the case off every morning to go running but I just feel better knowing that the Active X case will be doing its job while I'm being active. So how tight of a fit is it, I currently have a cheap walmart one that ripped after the 4th day, even without the case, it was meant for an ipod though

This does seem like the best one out there, but how do you put the phone into the armband? I ask because my current armband has a little opening a little bit before the top of the phone as most armbands do but while I'm running I seem to sweat so much that it actually starts building up. Mostly due to the fact that I force the phone into the armband which stretches it out and opens the little cut into a huge inch thick whole. Also do you use it with only the phone or with a case on?

I thought about this armband the most since it seems to be the biggest in size. What worries me is the opening, my current armband lets the sweat go into the phone and the opening is right where the camera is at this could prove a big problem later on. I also run 3 miles 4 times a week but have had to stop recently because I just don't enjoy running as much without endomondo running in the background telling me my distance and spotify playing my favorite tunes. Does your phone take in any moisture after your run?

i've tried out many different bands for my epic.
i can't speak for other exercise, but for running, i find the belt clip to be the best choice. i don't know how others do it, but having something as bulky(relatively) as epic around your arm... as you swing your arm for miles and miles... it does get quite bothersome.
having your phone by your waist, it minimizes movement of the phone as you run.
think about it, your waist vs your arm. which one moves more as you run?
it really works well.
just my 2c

I'm another Tune Belt user and I've been satisfied. Not a profuse sweater, but never had the moisture problems. One problem with the belt clip option is that it will hurt your bluetooth performance particularly for heart rate monitoring, which is my main reason for taking the phone on the run.
just to clarify, i use a belt clip holster... just a regular one.
ebay link
i'm not sure if i purchased mine from this particular guy, but it looks the same as that one.
also, i have HxM bluetooth heart monitor, and have not experienced any different reading when i wear the phone on the waist or the arm.
the only negative thing about a belt clip holster is that you need to fasten your running shorts... but i do this normally anyway, so not much of a loss for me.
I use a belkin - I think it's for an iphone. It's a snug fit, but I can get it all the way in so that the top hole closes around the phone and I don't have to worry about it popping out. I did have a couple instances where the position on my arm caused the neoprene to bump the volume buttons, but rotating it slightly seemed to fix that problem. The touch screen is difficult to use, but not impossible... I'm not sure about fitting a case inside of it though? Oh, and in order to use the headphones, just stick the phone in upside down ;-)
[edit] and i do apologize that I didn't notice this post was from september...
I'm sure everyone has moved past this since it was posted 4 months ago, but I thought I should mention it for anyone listening. Im a long distance runner (30+ miles a week) but lift a couple of days a week as well. My holster of choice is the Amphipod Runlite Airstretch Hydration belt. it has a zip close pocket for IDs and keys, a velcro close pouch for my Epic, and removable water bottles. Very comfortable.

after seeing a coworker's Bionic (lucky bastard ) which had the same style case with kickstand (apparently they sell those at the verizon store) I bought one from amazon as well. It should be coming tomorrow, so hopefully I can give a more thorough review. I've been looking for a kickstand case for a while, and none have been even remotely slim except this one.
just got this case. From what i can tell... it checks all the right boxes for a case. its light, its thin, its slightly soft but still durable, and most importantly, IT HAS A KICKSTAND. My only concern is the durability of the kickstand as it seems like the hinges and movable parts feel flimsy even though the rest of the case feels solid. On the plus side there are no folding plastic bits which you know will eventually snap.
Bad ass case, I love it. I had it for my Droid 2, Fascinate and my Charge.
I have one. I love it, and the kickstand is pretty sweet feature for watching stuff at lunch break in the conf room.
I broke off my clip eventually as I am always catching it on something while getting in and out of equipment and my desk chair. (kinda a wide ass). I super glued it back on with some Barn's FSA Adhesive and it's back in business.
Best case/holster I have had of all time.
It's pretty good for all of the reasons already stated, but my only complaint is that it's kind of a pain to get the case off if you're a guy like me who needs to remove it twice a day in order to switch batteries. That's all.
I have it
I got mine in a package deal when I purchased my phone. I love it, keep the phone nice and secure. I love belt clips, especially when you can rotate it. Sometimes I clip it to my messenger bag to catch videos of my bike rides. Once you start using the kick stand, you can't go back. Get it from verizon so if it breaks, they will provide you with a replacement.
Is it really made by Samsung? I need one of the "holster" with clip, so that I could use it while at the gym.
I just bought a new spare of these holsters from Amazon for $6.00. I go through a couple a year and don't want to come up short.
These are the Verizon ones and are pretty nice.

How do you carry your RAZR HD/ RAZR MAXX HD?

Ok, I really want to pick up a RAZR MAXX HD. I have never had a phone this big, though, and can honestly say I prefer smaller phones. I'm coming from Virgin Mobile USA to Verizon because Hurricane Sandy came in and wiped out my cell service at home. Verizon still works fine here, though. Anyways here are my past phones so you can get an idea of what I'm used to:
Optimus V - stock, unrooted
Moto Triumph - stock, rooted
HTC One V - CM10, sickkernel 1.4 gHz (current device)
The RAZR M was a big draw to me because it is almost the exact same size as my One V. However that b**tch Sandy also left me with the sour taste of battery life in my mouth and the RAZR MAXX HD was my initial thought.
So to the point of this thread...
The Triumph was kind of big for my pocket, and the Optimus V was kind of thick for my pocket. I usually carry my phone in my front pants pocket. (I think this is fairly common).
I'm thinking that the RAZR HD will be huge and annoying to carry in my pocket like that so I would like to know how people on XDA carry their's. (belt holster, front pocket, fanny pack, etc.)
I appreciate your input, thanks in advance...
Dude. Just wear it proudly anywhere you like. Before I had Droid X and kept it in front pocket over 2 years with no issues at all. Now I carry Maxx HD inside the belt holster (only because didn't buy tpu cover for it, besides Kevlar should protect it well without it). I have dropped it already on the tiles from about 6 feet...so far so good. My Droid X has been dropped at several occasions and survived without any major scratches to this day. I don't know whether I was just that lucky or Moto made it so sturdy. Bottom line your new phone should fit anywhere you like, and it is only up to you where do you wanna carry it. Ask vz if they let you "test walk" the phone in the store before you buy it and find the most convenient place for it. Good luck.

Its on the larger size but I have absolutely no problem carrying it in my front pants pocket... it is so skinny that it makes up for the width in my opinion. Can you go to a store and play with one to get the feel?

I already went to the verizon store to check it out. They have a big fat anti-theft lock on the thing in the store so you can't get a great idea of what the phone actually feels like. I mean, you get an idea of it, but not an especially good one. Anyways, they're usually pretty hesitant about taking stuff out of sealed boxes, especially to let people put it in their pockets and b/c of the hurricane here the store has been really crowded and I haven't bothered waiting for a worker there to ask about feeling a naked phone.
The question was asked just to get others' input on how they carry their phones, just to see if maybe someone out there has a unique idea that works really well for this larger phone. So other prospective buyers can get some ideas as well as myself. I already ordered the phone, I'm just looking for suggestions for when it gets here and an idea if it is awkward or annoying to carry in ur front pants pocket.
Personally I will NEVER wear a belt holster, though. No offense to anyone...
I appreciate ur guys' input, ::: presses thanks button::::
I just put it in my front pants pocket, with nothing else in the pocket and the back of the phone against my leg, I find for me that keeps the screen looking flawless. Never had any issue with it being too big, if you do, you will get used to it pretty fast

Cut a piece of cardboard the same size as the phone, put it in your pocket. It's only marginally thicker than that. I keep my Razr HD in my front pocket, and the maxx is only a couple mm thicker (or ~3/32" for metric-phobes). It's big, yeah, but nicer for web/email than my older Defy, which is nearly 2x as thick.
Idk how thick a gauge of cardboard you're used to but, like i said I've picked this phone up in the store (btw I'm talking about the Maxx) and its way thicker than a piece of cardboard. Based on regular shipping/storage box corrugated cardboard i'd say its at least twice as thick. Yes, the regular Razr HD is thinner but still a bit thicker than a piece of cardboard IMO.
Anyways, thanks to all for your input...
The point of this thread is really just to share how you carry your phone so potential buyers can get an idea of what its like to carry the phone around. Like a share your home screen thread... I'm not looking for the BEST way to carry the phone, or any phone for that matter. Just looking for people to share their opinions.
RMaxxHD, with case, fits just fine in the front pants pocket. Nothing else in the pocket (more to protect the screen from scratches than anything else - I've had folded papers in there with the phone). Or in a "knee" cargo pants pocket. If you can't fit it into your front pocket, you need to go trade in your girlish skinny jeans for a regular pair of men's.
After carry around a Thunderbolt with a Seidio case for 20 months the Maxx HD feels tiny to me. When I pulled out from it's box last night I was really struck by how light and thin it is. I will be grabbing a Seidio Active case for it too as soon as they are available.

Nexus 4 Case for working out at the gym?

Hi all,
I'm looking to see if anyone has any suggestions on a case for my Nexus 4. I workout everyday and with my Galaxy Nexus sometimes the phone would fall out of my pocket when on benches, etc. I don't want that to happen with my Nexus 4 so I'm looking hopefully for a belt clip case. Maybe like a pouch w/ a clip. Definitely something soft on the inside and that doesn't scratch the phone.
I don't want an armband because that plastic cover just destroys your phone, and I don't like the arm bands.
Any suggestions? Thanks a lot!!

Just kidding.
There aren't that many accessories particularly cases for the Nexus 4 yet - you'll have to wait a bit or perhaps just invest in a smaller dedicated mp3 player which is what I do.

Has a belt clip and a magnetic cover to hold in place. Also has microfiber on the inside so it won't scratch the phone. The important part here is the headphone jack WILL be accessible while in the case and it won't bend the headset or anything.
i would never take my nexus 4 to the gym for a couple reasons. 1. i dont want it to get crushed 2. i go to the gym to workout, not text haha

The phone comes with 16gb for a reason. I don't want and shouldn't need to buy an Mp3 player if I have 5,000 songs in the cloud. It's supposed to be used as a "all-in-one" device. But of course, do what you want with it...juss' sayin

I kept my 3GS around for this reason, I can log my workouts using Jefit and still bump music, In airplane mode it lasts a good week.
Parts are cheap too.
I used this guy for my Galaxy Nexus in an Otterbox --- perfect fit. N4 fits like a glove as well (obviously). Don't really understand how the plastic cover will destroy the phone, though.

I would avoid taking this phone in general into any gym or any serious physical activity, even with a case. Personal opinion.
I know this doesn't address the issue of a Case for the N4, especially one specific to gym type, but have you considered the motoactv? I have been using mine on a daily basis for the past six months for running and lifting. Plus I never enjoyed using any armband of any sort. I really like the clip and the watchband, although I do worry about smacking the glass face into a weight or falling during a trail run and breaking the glass. So far so good.
Besides the motoactv, I do see some gym goers making use of the uh... waist band pack thing, I just see it getting in the way often.
I know its a relatively cheap phone, but i'd prefer not to expose my phone, which I do use from time to time as a phone and put up to my face, to a gym type environment, it just seems to beg for some sort of bad news, be it damage or otherwise.
I use Bluetooth headphones, that way I can listen to music at the gym while my phone is safely off to the side resting on my bag. I used to use an armband, but this is much easier and safer.

Any recommendation for a running armband for Pixel XL w/ Spigen Rugged Armor case

Finally got my Pixel XL 128 GB ordered from the Google Store and I should have it next week. I've never used a case on my phone, but after getting some hands on time this week with phone, I've decided to go with the Spigen Rugged Armor case. The phone just felt too slippery - even though I really like the look of it. I'm coming from a Droid Maxx. Any recommendations for a running armband for the Pixel XL and are there any that would fit over the Spigen Rugged Armor case? I'd rather not have to remove the phone from the case to insert into running armband before each run if I can avoid it. My backup plan would be to keep the Droid Maxx for running - but that becomes a little less convenient. Any guidance or recommendations would be much appreciated.
I actually recently switched over to using a running belt - similar to this: https://goo.gl/xnPMgA - and it works really well. That is assuming that you don't need direct access to the phone screen while running (I run with a smart watch as well).

Thanks for the response! I've experimented with running belts, pockets, etc...and I've found that I need to access my phone more frequently during runs than makes those waist-based solutions convenient. I run in neighborhoods and frequently have to "pause" my runs, check my pace, etc...also I use a bluetooth headset and have found reception suffers a bit when phone is lower on the waist vs. in an armband. That running belt does look much nicer than ones I have seen previously.
