I know most of you won't care, but I want to say goodbye to my S4, all of you on the AT&T Galaxy S4 forum and Samsung in general.
I won't be buying another Samsung phone until they finally realize that they need to badly optimize their software. I am finally sick and tired of the lag and slowdowns on this phone regardless of rom and kernel combination. And the Note 3 videos show the signature Touchwiz ui lag once again, snapdragon 800, 3gb of ram and all.
I will be getting my LG G2 on Tuesday and will be selling my S4. Good luck to you all it has been real and there are a lot of great people here! Hope to see you all again one day.

Umm, are you serious? You base your statement on what? I bought a LG Optimus G Pro for extremely cheap to check out the LG software and ui and then I flipped it for a profit.
There was zero lag. As in none that I could find. And look at the videos of the G2. The thing looks screaming fast and can only be faster than he Optimus G Pro with the Snapdragon 800. That is scary to think about because the Optimus G Pro is scary fast.
Compare that to the Note 3 videos and you can see lag all over the ui which is standard for Samsung lately.

I ran an LG OGP numerous times before getting the S4. No lag--I just didn't like the 5 inch size. Good Luck--
Still say the s4 is better and nicer. The screen is outstanding and mine with the mf3 update works great. Every android phone lags a little. Also 4.3 is coming to the s4 in October because they need to update it for it to work with the new smartwatch.

To each their own. Before owning the S4 and note 2 I had the optimus G and with the S4 pro CPU and andreno 320 GPU the phone was very fast and fluid. LG has been stepping their game up IMO.

Thanks bro, but 32gb is plenty for me. I put several albums on locally that I really want on my phone and then use Google Music for the rest of my collection. And I don't put or watch movies on my phone.

I wordering how long it would take for someone to make a post about the SGS3 and HTC One X. Lmao. I have read in a lot of other forums and most are not happy with SGS3. From what I read it doesn't seem like it has a lot going for it other than a quad core and I doubt that it will be utilized that much. The nifty upgrades to the SGS3 can probably be ported to a device with like hardware. In my opinion, its barely better than the Note. All in all I would still pick the SGS3 over the HTC One X. That's just me though.

If you buy the international One X you'll get Tegra 3 and options of 16GB, 32GB, or 64GB storage.
The ATT version runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 and has 16GB of storage with 12GB user accessible. The battery is not swappable and there is no microsd slot. Also, the bootloader is locked.
The ATT SGS3 variant is rumored to also run on the S4. If everything else remains the same, I think it's the better phone:
1) SuperAMOLED: at 1280x720 you will not notice its pentile.
2) Larger removable 2100mAh battery.
3) 16 GB internal storage with a microsd expansion slot.
Those 3 things are enough for me to decide on the SGS3.
I wrote off the One X when I first heard of the battery and microsd slot issue.
Screw those phones and get a Pantech Burst.

Well i have had 4 galaxy s2, I have had an htc one x and i have had a galaxy note.
The build quality on the Samsung`s is better than the htx one x, it`s screen is not attached to the body correctly it creaks and moves when pressed and the colours go crazy, I prefer the htc one x screen quality apart from the yellow spots, not a big fan of oled technology.
The Galaxy Note was my favorite, but i returned it as their is a problem with the video playback and other screen issues, a dame shame.

I have no idea.... the sg3 is ugly, (btw it should be the skyrocket hd ahem, look at the pics of them both). Honestly im thinking about the gnex, off contract it is 400 bucks here in the U.S. Idk though, if i can not get the gnex then the att one x is next, even though it has the horrible rooting stuff to it, and flashing roms can at the moment only be done through the computer. Then third sg3. I think all the options suck in a big way, maybe ill just keep my infuse for now until the Note 2 comes out not much later, that will be the epic phone killer.
I personally think Samsung is making by far the best android phones out there right now
I would definitely pick S3 for sure

I think Galaxy S3 is ugly as well and the pen-tile screen isn't appetizing. One X have this brilliant real hi-dpi screen that provides crisp image, not pen-tile. iPhone 4S is not Super Amoled as well but I would still prefer crisp screen.
And I don't see how quad-core and dual-core(assuming it's US version) would make a big difference they're both enough. I bet less than 1% of the time you would notice the significant difference. And quad-core probably drains more battery.
I love my infuse, too. As we have ICS I'm not thinking of changing it in a year.

If the one x can prove to me these two things: the build quality is better then the international one x and the bootloader gets fricken unlocked soon then i will get the one x. I would still use my infuse for the heavy tasks like listening to music, and being my "school" phone because i need the extra storage, not some cloud stuff i can access that eats my data plan tremendously.

I don't have an upgrade yet, but as the date draws nearer (December) I really start looking at what is coming out between now and then, and I must say I'm not feeling particularly confident about any given upgrade path.
If it's true the next Nexus will be Nexus Optimus based off the Optimus G I'd probably consider the Optimus G since having identical hardware to the galaxy S worked many wonders for the captivate.
Outside of that, the Xperia Tl looks like a pretty great device if it gets enough support to see decent long-lived dev support.
So, what upcoming phone do you think will have the best dev support? I would really like to keep getting updates long after the manufacturer officially drops support.. and Even if it's only 400$, I probably will skip the nexus since 16 gigs isn't enough without expandable memory storage..
Same. I also have an upgrade due this December and the new phones on at&t aren't interesting. I would've gone to the one x but their at&t version has ran into a wall because of a recent update that locked the boot loaders down, hard. (At&t officially does not support unlocked boot loaders for it). So, the Cappy is still moving forward

I'm cautiously optimistic about both the Xperia TL and the Optimus G.
I know that back mfr support can ruin otherwise great phones.. both in terms of upgrades and devs ability to make custom roms.. So I'll be looking anxiously at the LG Optimus. If the One x+ keeps the 64 gb of storage or even just 32gb of storage I would seriously consider it too assuming the dev support was adequate.

I am really worried the Note 2 will be far to big for my taste. The 4.7" phones already seem *huge* to have to stick in my pocket. Aside from that I'd be worried about the quad core exynos processsors which I hear make it hard to cook up custom Roms.

LG Optimus G looks very promising. I love its hardware design (on the same level with HTC one x or better, IMO), that quadcore Qualcomm s4 processor, and the screen is fantastic. I wish At&t included the 13 mp camera. But then again all cellphone cameras will never be perfect.

I want a decent camera but, honestly my absolute biggest concern is long term dev support. I wish there was an environment more "open" to dev with carriers. I understand they don't want to have to deal with people bricking their phones.. At the same time "voided warranty" scares off most people I talk to about custom roms in the first place.. So I don't think they are really gaining anything by locking down phones.. People either care about the warranty or they don't.

Well I'm guessing it's because carriers want you to buy a new phone for every upgrade date to make $$$ so they lock boot loaders (of course, that assumption could be false). For long term development support I will buy an international Samsung galaxy s_ device or a nexus.

Unfortunately, I'm kinda tired of the SAMOLED displays.
As far as why they do it, forcing customers to buy new phones is a pretty horrible reason TBH.
There are far too many people who are angry at manufacturers for failing to update fast enough. When you remove their ability to install their own update, you're just giving them a reason to find another product.

I left my Cappy last October after the USB port died and I got tired of switching out batteries to use it for the SGS II. My SGS II just had an unfortunate accident involving water, so I pulled out my trusty Cappy which I could not part with since it was my 1st Android device. Thank god for all of the awesome development that has and continues to unfold for this device. I am on Jelly Bean 4.1.2 and its like I never left. I do not know how much longer I am going to use it (Nexus 4 looks tempting), but it continues to be an amazing phone that I will continue to go back to whenever other phones fail on me.
Kind of off topic but I really wanted to say how much of an awesome phone this is. Props to all of you who kept it for a full two years! :good:

Nexus 4 price is hard to resist, lack of storage and lte is unfortunate but can't beat 350 for a top of the line device. And it's a nexus.
I'd consider the nexus 4 if I didn't have the nexus 7 already
Might as well go with the school of fish since the galaxy s 3 is $99 now at select stores. Cant beat that price with all the features it has. But you gotta admit the HTC one x is a nice looking phone, and dare I say, and to which nobody has mentioned yet, the Lumia 920 (in red) *gasp*

One thing im wondering as I look at the nexus 4 is that there are 3 buttons back, home and multi task (which is long press home for us) one of the things i love is the dedicated options or settings key, anyone have any experience moving to no options button? One (of many) things that bother me when im using an iPhone is the stupid steps you have to take to change app settings.
I'm reconsidering this phone for that reason,(although im sure XDA can give me options to remedy this issue) am i the only one who thinks a dedicated multitasking button is a waste and long press home is a fine alternative to open up another shortcut option?

Getting a Nexus is your only safe bet for long term dev support and you don't have to deal with locked bootloader and losing your warranty by unlocking it (you have no choice with Sony and HTC, because you enter your IMEI to unlock it which void your warranty, unless you do some third party unlocking method). Also for the price of the Nexus 4 and being a Nexus device, I don't see why one would get the Optimus G with locked bootloader and probably poor support, if only for the 32gb storage which is not worth it compared to all the things the Nexus offer (ie, Google updates, easy to flash, best dev support and highesst quality rom, pentaband, elitist Nexus fanboys community).

Custom ROMs allow you to change all sorts of things about the navigation bar. You can have more buttons, different buttons, even shortcuts/widgets.
Also, I can say from experience that the three button setup is better than the four button setup.

Why would you want to downgrade yourself?

If you wanna waste your money get a nexus good way to spend money in less. Depending on the nexus device lte is limited or not there and no external(iPhone space BS) to me not even worth it

I personally have had nothing less than absolute misery with LG cell phones I steer clear. I'm sure the Nexus is a good product [but no external SD?? C'mon.]
Samsung makes the best Android cell phones in my opinion. Skyrocket
Skyrocket all the way. Every Samsung phone I've owned has been awesome. Can't say the same with the two LG's I once had. You should also consider looking at the development sections for each to see what roms, kernels, tweaks, etc are available. Skyrocket development is awesome. Many many choices.
I usually stick to everything Samsung (my SSD, phones, ram, fridge etc...)
If you're going to decide between Skyrocket and GNEX then here is the run down:
Both phones are dual core, Skyrocket being clocked higher and slightly faster than the GNEX at stock.
Both phones have 1GB or ram
Skyrocket you can put a memory card in, GNEX does not.
Skyrocket has LTE, GNEX (not the verizon version) does not (if that matters).
Skyrocket is 480x800, GNEX is 720x1280 so visually the GNEX will look a tad better based on pixel density and real estate.
So when it comes down to it its more like a side grade.
Skyrocket missing the HD resolution while the GNEX is missing LTE and expansion slot. So pretty much its all on preference and uses. But the biggest thing is probably the community and development. No doubt the GNEX has a large community and when there is an OS update it comes straight from Google on the day of or a little later when its announced. With the Skyrocket you may be lucky to get the update officially but will get it on AOSP and there is dedicated awesome devs here :good:
I personally have both the Skyrocket and the Nexus 4 and with the recent JB leak the Skyrocket is pretty quick and snappy. The Nexus 4 though is on another ball game but it is indeed fast, super snappy and has good development. Only thing I do miss is LTE, another thing is the OS isnt optimized so much on the Nexus 4 yet that battery hasnt been that great for most people. I get an average of 15hr~ and 3-4hr screen time. My Skyrocket has seen some better days but it is on LTE and that one was giving me 30/30mbps here while my N4 is stuck with HSPA 8/1mbps so that could be a factor when choosing speeds and whatever uses. I also miss the AMOLED blacks but the IPS on the N4 is pretty nice, some people who went from S3s to N4 were complaining that it looked washed out but it looks fine to me.
So pretty much between the S2, GNEX and N4 you lose the same things on the GNEX/N4 (LTE, expansion slot) you gain a larger screen resolution and early OTA updates from google. :good:
I'm not extremely excited about the design but the octa-core processor in combination with 2GB RAM sounds like music in my ears, although i'm disappointed that TouchWiz is basically the same, but my Galaxy SII contract is ending soon and I might be willing to pay a little more to get the S4.

I would love to get the S4 since I have S2, so its a reasonable upgrade.
I doubt it. I have the S3 so I will probably wait until the "SV" or until the S3 starts to feel old and unable to do what I want it to do.

Don't know yet...
Although my N1 needs to rest, I'm scared about the price and the dimensions. I'll wait a little to see how it goes

Definitely buying the gs4...I'm still rocking my Vibrant and it is about time to retire it.
4.2.2 will be last update this phone can truly handle. There just isn't enough ram to go any further with it

my nexus 4 is serving me well enough, don't need anything else =)
I think i'll wait for the Note 3.

I will not, because to be honest it is only a minor update compared to the S3. It is essentially the same phone but a better screen and SoC and a whole bunch of touchwiz "features". I never use touchwiz anyway...

I'm definitely getting the s4. Love the new real metal band around the phone. I was disappointed at first at the lack of styling changes until I saw the s3 - s4 comparison photos. It is absolutely a stunning phone.
Now only question is, International octa core versiob minus the lte or a quad core snapdragon us version. I opted for the international version for the gs3

htc one for me better build quality and groundbreaking hardware, all this hover touch and eye scrolling are just gimmicks

Nah. As a TMO user who enjoys the International/World phones: Galaxy S4 news was a disappointment. Was really hoping Samsung would've stuck with just 1 phone especially for us who enjoy Samsung using Wolfson DACs in their phones instead of mediocre Qualcomm SoCs. Their desire to constantly do yearly releases with little benefits is wasteful. They should've just stuck to promoting the S3 alongside software updates until they really have a good product on their hand.

What groundbreaking hardware? The same SoC as GS4, but slightly lower clock speed?
Or do you just mean the materials used and front facing speakers?

no, coz i don't have enough money, except if god make galaxy s4 rain in my village
AW: Will you be getting the Samsung Galaxy S4?
Will stick to my i9001 for a while despite 8cores are quite attractive.
<i9001 0x07 board running ivendor CM10beta3 on CastagnaITkernel 10.6 with i9001XXKPO baseband>
Samsung never...
It doesn't have good build quality and manufacturers dont give what they are promising
..I have personally experienced that with s2 and I know my friends who got broke note 2 just by falling from 2 feet...
And one more thing exynos processors they are closed source..which means not devloper friendly..
Custom roms has too many bugs..and they r using octacore word just for attracting more people

HTC One is still the best phone.. even better the s4!
After using HTC for the last couple of years I really hate phones that feel cheap. The plastic quality build of Samsung phones makes me stay away from them. And I'm not a fan of TouchWiz at all.

What do you think about Galaxy S5 ?
Is it worth alternative for a future upgrade ?
No
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
It's a downgrade in my opinion. Touchwiz is really, really bad.
It depends what you want to do with the phone.. Are you trying to run custom Roms. Root has been achieved, but not sure if Knox will be cracked to get to the bootloader.. I would wait and see how it goes. The new HTC one may be a better route. I know you can use bootstrap to run customs Roms. I just don't think they run as good as when you have an unlocked bootloader.

I played with an S5 in Best Buy yesterday. Definitely a downgrade. It's still stuttery like other galaxy phones, the new touch wiz leaves a lot to be desired. The only thing in my opinion that the s5 does better than the nexus is the camera. The only thing I personally would upgrade to would be the new HTC one at this point. I played with one of those too, very nice.

do you really want to change your $350 phone for a $600+ phone with nearly the same specs, some more gimmicks and a fugly UI? what will you use the extra 200MHz for? you wont feel the difference between the N5 and S5. well, maybe the N5 will feel smoother, since the new samsung crap UI appears to be choppy at some points. Quite honestly, after all the issues I had with samsung, I'd never consider going back to their devices. nuh uh.
If I got an S5 for free, I'd sell it then buy the Nexus 5.
you'll get better response if you ask in G5 forum

Seriously. The spec upgrade is so minor and touchwiz sucks. Why not get 300+ dollars in the bank and still stay top of the line?

Is it so much sluttery ? Which model did you try ? SM-G900H ?
I tried M8 the other day (hasn't played with S5 yet), it was as fast as Nexus 5 while navigating through the menus and etc.

Samsung can cripple any device`s speed with TW, i like Sense 100 times better tbh.
i have both a n5 and a s4. sure, by specs, the s4 holds its own, and appears to be better than the n5. but in reality, even with the s4 optimized and all the crap disabled, the s4 tends to lag and stutter. it feels like a phone from a few years ago, by the amount it tends to stutter. it doesnt feel like a phone with the specs it has. the n5 truly blows it away with real time use.

I had S4 GE in past and now on Nexus 5. They are exactly the same in terms of software.
The only downside, a new version of Android comes earlier to Nexus than to GE device.

How a snapdragon 600 can be better than snapdragon 800 ???
First, do what you want....we can't decide for you. ?
Second , it seems its getting harder and harder to play with new phones....some may never see root, or there will be complicated hack ways to root. Yes, many have dev type editions....but development for them is slow and limited. (Like moto x say)
So, if you like flashing and playing, the only sure bet now days is a nexus. If you can live with a quiet or non existant development community..... Then there's lots of great phones on the way or out. ?
