[Q] need to know what boot chain to choose - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Hello all, sorry if this is in the wrong spot or if there is a thread on this i missed.. Im looking to root, unlock boot loader, and also flash to new rom.
I have done his some time ago, but a lot has changed since then
I need to know what boot chain or someone can tell me and send me a link to a vid they know works for this. I have read that a couple will then they were outdated and I dunno if they will still work.. I bought the Phone used because my old droid got stolen..
This phone is a
galaxy S III i535 running 4.2.1 with baseband i535vrBMF1 I have seen the bootchains for BLK3 and whatever the other two are..
I just need to know what boot chain to use.. If I just need to do a factory reset. or flash backwards then forward.. I have read a lot . please help this NOOB!! thanks to all this site is amazing!!!!

I wouldn't mess with flashing boot chains. People have had issues with hard bricks. This has everything in one easy package: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2332825
Alternatively, you can ODIN a stock rooted image, take all the OTA's with rootkeeper installed to keep root, then unlock bootloader with EZ unlock 1.2. Make sure you use version 1.2 it's the only one that works correctly.
I'd recommend the first method, it's literally one-click. I usually use the 2nd method because I like to tinker.

Wouldn't we need to unlock the bootloader first in order to install CWM? Even then, wouldn't we also need a custom version of it made for this phone? Correct me if I'm wrong but wouldn't we have to do this first before any modding can get done?

i don't know to much about boot loaders but i was able to root my phone without unlocking the boot loader. But if i do need it unlocked, i would need to be ran through how to do it for my phone. An i suppose a custom CWM would have to be made unless another version would be compatible with it
From what I am reading about installing CWM on other phones, an unlocked bootloader would be needed. You don't necessarily need the bootloader to be unlocked to root this phone since we are using SuperOneClick. We also need a custom CWM unless another version is compatible that is correct. There is currently no known ways of unlocking the bootloader for this phone.
can anybody tell me how to hard reset my LG MyTouch?? please and thank you

Yes that would be correct. But it would be great if this phone's boot loader was similar to another phone's boot loader so that i can test the settings to see if the commands would work. Then no really hard work would have to be done i guess But I also just opened up this topic so if someone is working on a solutionn soon us lg mytouch users can be notified of its coming arrival.
ive rooted this phone.. Havent had time to tinker with anything yet though i just rooted a couple hours ago. Will let you know.

Soon getting my precious RAZR HD

So, in a week I'm getting my RAZR HD from Canada (not sure if it was Fido or Rogers), unlocked and unused. Now, I would like to do some modifications to it, and I need some help since I'm coming from Galaxy Nexus, where everything is just thousand times easier...
Basically, I just want my device being on JB and rooted. I think it will be on ICS when it arives.
I saw the methods to root the phone, and I will use the VooDoo RootKeeper app for it. However, if there is an uncomplicated method to root the phone even if already on JB, please feel free to tell me.
Another thing - having in mind that I still don't want to flash ROMs on my new phone, just root it, do I need to unlock the bootloader? I am quite sure that Canadian warranty doesn't mean crap in Serbia, but I just don't think I need that just now if it's not necessary for just rooting the device on JB.
So, simplified - do I need to unlock the BL for rooting, and is there an easier method do root the phone on JB than the one with VooDoo app?
Thanks guys!
Have I placed the question in the wrong section or what..?
Follow the thread for bootloader unlock... Once you have that done install recovery... After that you can follow the thread which has the given steps for upgrading from ICS to JB.. For the fido and Rogers official hasn't been released yet so you have to make your own sbf file to flash... To root that you just flash the supersu package
Thanks! Appreciated.
Sorry my friens, just two more questions:
1) Is there really a thread for unlocking the bootloader, or I use the Moto site, as everybody suggests?
2) You said I should make my own sbf file? Is that something special or am I a bit unfamiliar with that file type? As far as I know, .zipr files are being flashed through CWM.
Thanks again!
Sooo, sbf files?
I'm sorry if I'm spamming a bit, but this is really important to me. Thanks.

[Q] MrRobinson root method on a brand new phone?

I have a brand new stock verizon S3 and am wondering if I can use the MrRobinson root method to root for the very first time. I swear someone in one of the forums said they did but it sounds like most people are using those images to just update. I originally tried this 4.1.1/4.1.2 method and it bricked my phone on flashing the VRALEC bootchain step, everything looked good in odin, the phone looked like it tried to restart, then went black and never came back. I got a new phone and am wary of trying the same method again. If that is the method I have to use any thoughts on what could have went wrong?
I appreciate any input.
There should be no problem using the Mr. Robinson file in Odin. I have flashed the bootchain that soft bricked your phone and had no issue. Your following the Odin instructions exactly, right....just checking. Everything needs to be installed using the PDA slot unless it specifically says to put the file somewhere else....I have not run into that yet. You had problems with Odin before so that makes me a little apprehensive advising you to use it again.
The Mr. Robinson 4.1.2 file is not the ota. Use the 4.1.1 ota file so you can grab the 4.1.2 ota. Before installing 4.1.2 ota install ota voodoo rootkeeper....temp unroot, take ota then reroot. Pretty sure that's the only way other than flashing the bootchain that will get you on stock rooted 4.1.2

I actually had the video demo they have linked open and was watching that then pausing and following the directions and making sure everything I was doing was identical. I really have no idea what happened, I've read over the directions a few times watched the video again and I can't see anything I may have missed. But it hard bricked my phone, I couldn't turn it on or get back into download mode or anything.
If I can just use the MrRobinson method on a brand new unrooted phone I will do that. I think the phone was already on 4.1.2 when I got it, so that won't matter using the 4.1.1 ota file? I've been flashing roms and toying around with my Incredible 2 since the day I got it basically and have never had any problems. Now that I had this issue with the S3 i'm scared to try anything . It seems the S3 has a good community though which is the main reason I went with it over my other options.
I would be scared to use Odin if I had your experience too. I've used Odin several times without any issue but I have not used it since the 4.1.2 update....although I'm sure many have without any problems. Yes, you can flash any OTA via Odin even if your going backwards . I can't say you won't have any issues because I don't think you should have had an issue the first time.......maybe wait to see what others think?

idk why that happened. My best guess is if the battery was low prior to you using Odin then it may have needed charging. But that VRALEC/Odin method is proven working countless times and those files linked in the OP have been used countless times.
Just know that with mrRobinson's pre-rooted images, you'll still need to unlock your bootloader with say EZ Unlock v1.2 (available on Rootzwiki so google it) before you decide to flash custom roms/kernels.

Like I said above, may have been the luck of the draw or it could have needed charging.

If you want to have a 4.1.2 rooted stock version, you need to download MrRobinson, K3 full wipe image with root (http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=9390214368362234355), unzip it first, then use Odin to flash this, then install Voodoo OTA root keeper from the market to preserve root, then let OTA update back to 4.1.2, finally use OTA root keeper to restore root. Done, simple and risk free.
You guys rock thank you!
As a followup for anyone that may stumble upon this thread in the future, I used the method provided by buhohitor and it worked like a champ. I flashed the mrRobinson image used ez unlocker to unlock the bootloader then used ez recovery to flash the latest version of TWRP. I'm now running this Paranoid Android 4.2.2 Rom and it is fantastic!

What is the best current way to root & unlock VZW S3?

Guys, I have spent hours rooting and unlocking my S3. Reason it has taken so long is either I don't know what I'm doing or there are so many ways to do it, some may be outdated or something. I'll side with the first reason. But, I do have experience in rooting...kept my OG Droid rooted/overclocked/customized. Did the same with my Thunderbolt. Also rooted my S3 a few months ago after the VZW update that crapped out the radio. When they released the fix, I removed root and installed it. Got the urge for some new stuff and here I am...
Here is what I'm doing:
- Using CausalR795b. Seems quick and easy. Definitely provides root, but I'm not sure about unlocking the bootloader. What is the insecure aboot? Says it's ready to install it, but I can't find out what this is?
- Trying to install TWRP recovery. What is the easiest way to do this? The last time I did it with Goomanager, I got the Verizon Unauthorized Software message at boot.
- Trying to install the latest Hyperdrive ROM. Got it installed once and on reboot, got the VZW Unauthorized message again,
- Using ODIN 3.07 to flash a stock ROM after getting the error message.
Can anyone tell me a link with good directions, start to finish? Or, give me some advice? To me, at least, seems like VZW has made customizing the S3 unnecessarily complicated,
Thanks in advance.
Insecure aboot is the unlocked bootloader. Once you install that you will no longer get the VZW Unauthorized message.
First welcome to the community.
second, this is the wrong section.
third, you have to use D2VZW-CASUAL-R634b release to fully unlock bootloader

My bad...I did post in the wrong place. Wasn't even thinking about it. Had just spent so long in this subforum trying to find answers, must have lost my bearing.
I really appreciate your help! The older Causal did everything in one try with no hiccups whatsoever. Why isn't anything posted about this noted in the newer Causal thread? It might be in there somewhere and if I would have seen it, hours would have been saved.
Now rocking the newest Hyperdrive and probably going to try a few more ROM's. Thanks again!

SM-G310R5=SM-G310HN=Galaxy Ace3?

I'm new to phones
I got a greatcall jitterbug3 that is an overlaid bloated mess but otherwise a cool little phone. Its drawback is that Samsung and greatcall must have made some kind of deal and only put JellyBean in it.
From what I can figure out the SM-G310HN is the international version of the same phone: it runs kitkat.
I have emailed Samsung and GreatCall and basically they don't give a hoot.
I just got this phone new last Oct.
I would like to put a custom rom in it but I can't unlock the bootloader I've tried a bunch of command line but the best I've gotten is "unauthorized"
So
What if I got the stock rom (I did) for the 310hn which is kitkat
Can I flash a stock rom using odin without the bootloader being unlocked?
I know I might brick it I'm asking if this is a possibility before doing something stupid.
What I'd really like would be to go with custom but that seems impossible.
This is so much more difficult than working on windows where I could always wipe the disk and start over, LOL
I've been puttering with this for two months and thankfully it still works and I do believe I was able to capture a nandroid backup when I had it provisionally unlocked with ez-unlock and rooted with online nandroid. At least the nandroid included files that looked good and a boot img.
I might have found something:
http://vsphone.info/index.php?phone1=7468&phone2=6042
The hn is gsm and the r5 is cdma, I wonder if that would nix the changeover
Sorry for the long winded post.
Hey Thanks,
Dave
