[Resolved] [Q] Flashing ROMs - General Questions and Answers

This is going be a short one, just got a couple questions which i'm unsure about.
1) When flashing a ROM is it best to flash from the external SD Card or internal. I read some where its best from the internal as it runs better
2) If i want to flash, for example JellyBam v10.0.0 or the latest CM on my Samsung S3 i9300 which is running on 4.1.2, would i be able to do so or would i need to be on android 4.3, then flash it?
I'm sorry if my questions sound dumb

No question is dumb mate. But asking questions when you have the ability to find the answers is being plain dumb (I didn't mean you mate ).
Your answers:
1. What you heard is wrong. It doesn't make any difference at all.
2. No, that's not needed. You may flash any suppported ROM irrespective of what android version you are currently on.

[q] htc hd2 installing stock 6.5 problem!

Hello guys!
I have installed Cyanogenmod 3.7.0 (android 2.3.7 version). It's MALGDR installed.
I want back to stock, but I'm not sure how.
I have downloaded the ROM from local HTC-site.
The rom is put on SD-card, so should I erase everything on SD card and make a partiinion FAT32 or can I do this AFTER I have installed WinMO 6.5?
Or could this occur some corrupt data or something during installl? Any help is highly appreciated.
Also, when I will start installing. Should I use the method on using VOLUME DOWN + POWER ON button, to get into that tri-colour screen and then plug in USB, wait for it to connect and then just drive from computer?
When I run the ROM from the computer it is like random rom install. It has to detect the device etc.. for it to install. This will not be any problem?
Thanks alot guys. I really hope someone with education around this will help me out.
Please any help!!
would like to give it a bump, so perhaps someone can help me.

I'd be very surprised if you were the 1st person to want to go from a Magldr booting ROM back to WM, so the answers you need are probably already there. I pointed you there purely because you'd be surprised how many people don't know their devices have specific forums.
Edit: Here you go. A quick google search found this...

Wow, that was a real nice thread. But I'm wondering about if I install without deleting partitions on SD card, and just run the ROM-file that I downloaded from HTC.
Can I do this? I'm really not sure how to exceed this prodedure, since I want radio and HSPL being all original.
Thanks for the thread though, mate. Hope you can help me out perhaps here!

[Q] How to delete AOKP from the start up menu?

I was trying out different ROMs based on AOKP and CM9 on my device and I have finally chose to use the CM9 one. How can I remove "boot AOKP" from the start up? Does the present of the AOKP ROM take up space in my device? Thanks in advance.
You'll need to provide more details. What device do you have and what is this start menu? What rom is it?
And it shouldn't be taking up space on your system if you have CM installed. just taking space on your sd or internal flash memory.

I have an HP touchpad and I have installed this rom in both AOKP and CM9 version: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1501637
The CM9 is better so I decided to keep using it. How do I remove unnecessary stuff from previously installed ROM?
The start up menu means the one with black background and blue text for you to choose which OS to boot. Sorry for being a noob

lol, no problem. Its just commonly a good thing to state your device and what your running if you don't have that info in your signature, and always be as descriptive as possible. We love to help, but it makes it hard if we don't have something to go off of
I'm assuming you have some custom recovery installed like CWM recovery. Basically in recovery you would have had to of wiped before you flashed CM or your device wouldn't have booted. If it did, then we have a miracle on our hands When you wipe it removes all little bits of your previous rom. I suppose if you are still concerned there is an issue, you could just reboot back to recovery again and wipe everything except your sd and internal (not familiar with the device if it has those), and then just reflash the rom with gapps.
As far as the start menu I have no clue, I don't own that device to know how to remove or modify it. If I had to guess, I'd say it has something to do with the bootloader, and you should look around for a custom one on the forums that is modded for what you want.
Anyways, this is all just basic stuff and may not apply for the touchpad. If anything, just ask in the q&a section for the device that way a dev for that device can help. http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1467
I know you are new here so I'll just let you know real quick before I go, each device on XDA has five subforums.
TouchPad:
General
Q&A
Accessories
Development
Themes and Apps
So in the future if you have questions, the Q&A section for the TouchPad will be the best place to ask. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind helping, i just don't know the device like your actual devs would. Good luck!

Quick Questions (I think)

Hello users!
Just have a couple questions. I've recently switch from iPhone to Android (GSIII Obviously). A mistake? Maybe. lol. (My opinion). But if anyone could all so kindly help me. I am wanting to know the following,
Q 1. Where do I find kernels? (and any tutorials to install them) ( Im running CM10 for now, currently testing out other ROMs though.)
Q 2. What kind of files would I flash to my phone? Don't get that concept yet. ha.
Q 3. Whats the best way to back up? Pictures, contacts, any data.
Q 4. Will edit when I think of it again.
Read, read and read again. Check out the stickies in each sub-forum.
What's the point of Q&A? So I don't have to search and search... Thanks for the help... ha.
You can get yourself into a mess but not reading and doubling checking what you are about to flash. Just my two cents.

(Mostly) everything you need for the VZW GS3, As far as installing them, just make sure you have the right one for your rom (AOSP or TouchWiz, Jelly Bean or Ice Cream Sandwich), Download the Kernel, boot to recovery, wipe caches and flash away.

Roms and Kernels mostly. Once you get in to it, I would look into RPM and Modem flashing.

I use My Backup to back up Texts and call log. It can also backup pictures and contacts. For contacts though, Save them to Google, not your phone. Google will sync the contacts back to your phone once you log back in to your account and they are all accessible from contacts.google.com. For your pictures, I recommend Dropbox. When you sign in to the app, it asks if you want to automatically save your pictures and then everytime you snap a pic it throws it up to dropbox automatically.
Above all, READ READ READ! Nobody likes that guy who posts the same question as 50 other people in a thread...You know, that question that is answered in the OP

[Q] How to Root and install TWP/CWM

Hi,
I recently purchased TF101 and new to this forum. Could anyone provide proven method for below items.
1. Rooting
2. Installing TWP recovery (it seems this good for TF101 compared to CWM ???)
3. Which is best ROM for 4.2 ?
Your help will be appriciated and thanks for providing details
Thanks & Regards

Frederuco is the man to look for in regards to beginner guides. Try this to begin with:

There are a few good ROMs out there but I recommend Katkiss.
I too recommend KatKiss. I am running the 4.3 flavor and it is just awesome IMO.
Have a look through that guide. If you have any issues, let me know and I will assist. There are other methods too like Thing O Doom's PERI tool if that doesn't work. The biggest thing is to make sure you have a USB cable that works with a PC. Otherwise you cannot root.
Stick with TWRP unless you want to run Android Revolution (based in stock ICS firmware). In that case use CWM. And do not ever use ROM Manager with your TF101.

I have a tf101 which I rooted successfully with Frederuco's method using EasyFlasher, then got my Other Half another tf101 for Christmas and EasyFlasher didn't work, PERI did (although I somehow managed to delete the stock ROM whilst flashing) which didn't annoy me too much as I wanted her to be running KatKiss anyway)
What's the danger of using ROM Manger with the tf101, I use to reboot into recovery though have never used it for flashing ROMs or such like.

Don't use ROM Manager to update or install CWM recovery or try to flash updates.
I just use the buttons to reboot to recovery.

Question about flashing new Custom Rom

Its been awhile since I had my Pixel rooted so I just rooted again, but had a couple of questions to verify before I move forward with what i want to do. Right now I got 8.1 rooted on my phone,on Slot A. I was wanting to flash a custom ROM and seen that if you are currently on Slot A, when you flash the new rom, it will flash to the B slot, is this true? Also, if I do this, could I keep my current 8.1 rooted on my Slot A, and use the Custom on the Slot B,kind of like dual booting? I do know with the custom I got to get the Gapps on the opposite slot(right?), so how would that work? I know I can google some of this but havent found a clear answer and want to make sure before I proceed. The Custom I want to use is either Havoc (which I have tried and it failed) or Lineage OS. Thanks
No one, really? Almost 30 people have looked at this and nothing? Not trying to be pushy but just looking for some advice. Not going to Google it and follow anyone so that's why I'm asking here, for expert advice.Ill figure it out on my own I guess.

OK. These forums are not to spoonfeed you. All of the questions you asked in the paragraph above have been answered across the Pixel forums multiple times. Perhaps a bit of googling would do some good.
