Hi,
My phone was bricked as I tried to replace framework-res.apk with some other file. It was struck in bootloop mode.
Unfortunately, I couldn't find stock ROM of that phone as it is new model. So, I cannot flash stock ROM.
The only way I can see is to replace corrupted framework-res.apk with stock framework-res.apk (I have taken back up).
So, can you tell me what is the best way to access system files of bricked phone on PC.
Your help is much appreciated.
Forgot to mention, my phone model is XOLO B700

It's best to just "cd(change directory)" your way into the adb folder with the file right beside adb.exe,
that should fix the problem, I think.
Oh, can you post the error here. Just what it says, I mean.
It should help.

Judging from this error(and I ain't so sure):
1. Your output folder path(the path leading to the system folder) is wrong.(Correct your path)
2. Remove sh from the path. ADB detected sh as not a folder but another type of file(archive, apk etc...)
You can try to use cd to figure out the path, provided your phone's being detected by your computer now(which I doubt).
Code:
1. cd (E:/ or whatever your cellphone's drive)
2. dir
3. Then cd your way into another folder(choose from those that appear)
Repeat steps 2 and 3

Not sure if ADB is required but thats the only method I know of. A step by step guide (Might want to double check with advanced users)
1) Install ADB and set the environment variables, etc.
2) Go to the folder (Should be c:/android-sdk-windows/tools) and open adb.exe (If it flashes and auto closes, open up cmd [Start>Run>cmd] and drag the adb.exe into the cmd and press enter)
3) Put Phone In Debugging Mode Settings>Applications>Development>USB Debugging
In ADB, type these commands
*Note that the commands are case sensitive*
Pull the files you are about to replace with the following commands:
cd c:/anrdroid-sdk-windows/tools
adb pull /system/framework/framework-res.apk framework-resk.apk
adb pull /system/app/Phonebook.apk
adb pull /system/app/Phone.apk
4) Now framework-res.apk, Phonebook.apk, and Phone.apk should be in your tools folder where your adb.exe is. Put these files somewhere safe.
5) Now drag your new framework-res.apk, Phonebook.apk, and Phone.apk into the tools folder.
6) Go back to adb and type the following command:
adb shell mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock2 /system
7) Now these commands will move your new theme files to the sdcard:
adb push framework-res.apk /sdcard/framework-res.apk
adb push Phonebook.apk /sdcard/Phonebook.apk
adb push Phone.apk /sdcard/Phone.apk
8) Now these commands will install the new theme files in the sd card from the previous step:
adb shell dd if=/sdcard/framework-res.apk of=/system/framework/framework-res.apk
adb shell dd if=/sdcard/Phonebook.apk of=/system/app/Phonebook.apk
adb shell dd if=/sdcard/Phone.apk of=/system/app/Phone.apk
9) Now your phone will restart (If not, manually restart) and your theme should be installed.

You pull the framework-res.apk file and open it with 7-zip. Inside should be some folders and there should be a folder (forgot which one) with a bunch of pngs. Replace the battery icons with desired ones.

Hi all!
I finally managed to ROOT an aPad M701 using z4Root.apk
Now I want to make an image of my entire ROM tablet, I've heard that under the ROM manager app is a tool called "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery" that has to be installed in order to make a full ROM backup.
The problem is that everytime I try to install it a screen pops out telling me to choose from the list my model of phone (I'm on an aPad tablet), since I'm not on a phone, I'm unable to continue with the process!
Any method or workaround for installing Flash ClockworkMod Recovery on Haipads/aPads M701?
Thanks in advance for the help.
Custom Recovery Image
On Team Telechips website there is a custom Clockwork recovery image toward the bottom of the page.
Use the .bat file they include in their ZIP file or push the .img file to /nand and flash. You will then be able to back up everything with the custom m701 clockwork application.
If the .bat file doesn't work for you, try opening it up as text and use the commands as a guide to push via adb.
Thanks a lot for the reply Clookeno but I dont know where to start with this, do you know any step by step guide I can use to achieve this?
Again thanks for the info.

I'm trying this and when using adb push to /nand I'm getting back "failed to copy 'recovery.m701.img' to '/nand/recovery.m701.img': Read-only file system"
I'm currently running Haipads 2.2 version and I was looking at testing out CM6 version, but can't seem to get the img file over.
And Ideas?
read only file
adb shell mount -o remount,rw /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
The /nand folder needs to be read-writeable....since you use z4root go into temporary root and the push the file into /nand folder

Locobox, there likely isn't a step-by-step guide for the procedure because it has a .bat file which is basically a executable file in windows that runs a set of commands in the DOS prompt for you. Basically you just double click the install_recovery.bat file and it puts the ADB commands in for you to push the recovery image to your tablet.
If you right click the .bat file and click edit you will see the following ADB commands:
adb push recovery.m701.img /nand/recovery.m701.img
adb shell sync
adb shell flash_image recovery /nand/recovery.m701.img
adb shell sync
adb shell reboot recovery
If you are familiar with ADB you can also copy the .img file to your sd card and flash it from there.
i recommend you have root access and the ADB utility.
Sorry it took so long to reply, work has been killing me lately....

poole699,
I have tried everything you can think of to put CM6 on the 2.2 Haipad firmware (which is really a modded 2.1) and had no luck. Either the system directories are all messed up or they locked the ability to edit it somehow. If you figure it out let me know because i have wanted to try it for a while.
I have a working team telechips 2.2 with market and correct orientation settings but it took ALOT of trial and error. If you go that route make sure you back-up your pointercal file because if you do not you will likely have to go back to an official release, save it, and try the telechips mod again...
Good luck

M701 Screen Flip
Hi guys, I've got a bit of a problem with my M701 tablet. I did a factory reset the other day and now the digitizer is inverted. The screen works fine but when I touch the top it senses the bottom & left = right.
This is a complete pain in the arse.
I plugged the unit into a keyboard via the usb port as a workaround until I could get into it to try to resolve the issue but I'm now stuck in a loop at the sign in to google bit. Every time I sign in it takes me back to the sign in page.
This is also a complete pain in the arse.
It doesn't have clockworkmod installed and so when I tried to install update.zip as per the above post, it comes up with 'E:Failed to verify whole-file signature' error message and aborts.
Again, a complete... you get the picture...
So, I'm slightly frustrated with it to say the least and was wondering if any of you intelligent types could either point me in a suitable direction that doesn't involve the bin. Or a window...
Many thanks in advance.

I'm not sure if this of help to you, but I have a M701 2Gb (probable fake version), I've messed around with the basics on my exploring Android type thread:

I've put recovery on both 2.1 and 2.3 roms (need different versions). Any other q's then let me know, I don't know much yet but learning the best i can.

Hi,
I was having trouble with my app YouTubeTablet.apk, it stopped working while I was using it. thinking I was starting to get the hang of this OS, I found the apk in system/app/ and, thinking I could just reinstall it, I deleted it. It wont let me reinstall it. it trys to install, then just gives an error saying "app did not install"
I have been reading and searching all night, I have tried the chmod 644 and a few other things but nothing I have done has seemed to work to get this reinstalled.
Does anyone know a way to get this app back?
thanks,
John
Hello I'm not 100% certain as I'm also pretty new to this scene, but couldn't you just copy the apk back to /system/app ?
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
Use a root explorer and copy the new app to /system/app. Restart and it should work.
I use ES File Explorer, but you have to check mount as read/write in the settings before you copy to system/
Install in /system/app and make sure your permissions are correct. Read: User, Group and Others checked and Write: User checked. Reboot
BTW Youtube crashed last night for everyone. Was a thread about it.
Thanks for the reply's,
I have tried most of this stuff, I tried the rest (changing the permissions) and it still doesn't show up in apps or install
not sure what else to try??
John
Try pushing it via adb then fixing permissions.

Hi,
I have been trying to do this, I cant seem to do it
after installing sdk I am
1. booting into apx vol up + power while plugged into the pc (plus I tried pluging nto the pc after going into apx mode)
2. adb devices (none show) If I boot normally the devices do show
3. in apx mode, apx shows under devices and printers in my pc
so I tried to do adb remount with the TF booted normally it says not permitted, if I try in apx mode it says no device
I dont know, I am lost, I hope this is all my fault, it has to be, I am reading and reading, nothing I find, or stuff people tell me to try works. I am really starting to wonder about this OS

I used this one to root back on (8.6.5.9)
ASUS Transformer Root ToolKit V7.1 Universal (Windows) | 2011-09-22 (brk's)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1185104
and I updated with these
[UPDATE] CWM - Stock + Root - 8.6.5.21 US 8.6.5.21-WW 8.6.6.23-WW Updated 12/29/2011 (daoist )

I was able to do this in terminal emulator
mount -o rw,remount /system
cp sdcard/download/youtubetablet.apk /system/app/
cp sdcard/download/youtubetablet.apk /system/app/
mount -o ro,remount /system
this did seem to work, i mean It did copy the files into the system/app dir however I still dont see the app in my apps and still cannot install
One difference this time, if I copied the files into the system/app dir using root explorer then changed the permissions with root explorer I could, I mean it would allow me to check the box's and save the change
this time In root explorer I cannot keep or save the changes to the permissions, it gives some error about "not being able to change permissions on some file formats such as sdcard etc..." something like that
thanks
John
I was able to push the files over using this method found here (pushing it via adb with my TF in recovery (CWM)
http://androidforums.com/optimus-m-...anyone-who-has-rooted-deleted-lghome-apk.html
it did push the files but still doesnt show up as an app
The may seems simple and don't get mad at me for saying this, but did you reboot after you pushed it to /system /app? It should show up then. At least that is the way I push them and usually when it doesn't work, it is because I forgot that part.

as you don't have CWM i think it's the only way! so here is step by step instruction:
1- copy your old (And healthy) framework-res.apk and adb files(two files that i attached to this post extract zip file ) in root of your C drive.
2- open command prompt program on your windows.
3- power on your phone and connect it to PC(make sure you already installed Gfit Drivers)
4- in command prompt type this commands:
Code:
cd c:
cd /
adb shell
wait to see # in command Prompt and type this:
Code:
mount -o rw,remount -t rfs /dev/stl12 /system
exit
adb push framework-res.apk /system/framework/
adb shell
chmod 0644 /system/framework/framework-res.apk
reboot
if you have disabled USB Debuging all of this things are useless
by old framework-res.apk do u mean the modified one?
if no where shall i keep the modified one?

i mean stock framework of your rom.
if you want modified framework you can try this:
1- copy adb files(two files that i attached to this post extract zip file ) in root of your C drive.
2- open command prompt program on your windows.
3- power on your phone and connect it to PC(make sure you already installed Gfit Drivers)
4- in command prompt type this commands:
Code:
cd c:
cd /
adb shell
wait to see # in command Prompt and type this:
Code:
mount -o rw,remount -t rfs /dev/stl12 /system
chmod 0644 /system/framework/framework-res.apk
reboot
see if it works or not.
i didnt get u
where shall i place the modified framework?
and can i use rajrocks' ics theme on my stock DDKT3 rom?

i don't know about rajrocks' ics theme .
but if you allready installed your modified framework just do what i said in second post. and if you don't know you have installed it or not , place modified framework on root of C: Hard drive in your PC and do what i said in my first post
and what about the systemUI.apk?
When i try opening adb through cmd i get an error saying AdbWinApi.dll is missing
oh sorry i foget about that
i attached that file to this post.
about systemUI.apk just replace it like framework... just change adresses...
and always keep orginal file just in case! maybe you did something wrong and end in bootloop
yeah thnx
and u have any idea of how to enable crt off animation?
thnx man
Hi,
I have the HTC Inspire 4g with:
Software #: 3.20.502.52 710RD
Android Version 2.3.5
HTC Sense 3.0
Baseband version: 12.69a.60.29u_26.17.14.11_M
I have unlocked the bootloader using htcdev and have successfully rooted the the device but i'm still S-ON. I have tried installing some custom ROMs however after flashing the device did not boot. I understand that I have to flash the boot.img file located in the .zip file of the custome ROM. That I know how to do... My concern is that I want to try out some ROMs but as a precaution I would like to have the stock RUU file for the type device I have should I need to restore it.
I did create a backup of my ROM and have used it previously to restore the phone after installing the custom roms that haven't boot. I just want to know if I flash the boot.img file will a restore bring it back to where it was before the flash or do i need the RUU file to restore stock?
If the later please advice where I can find that particular file as I've searched but can't seem to find the one to use.
Thanks a million.

RUU 's can not be modified. You will not lose s off however by running an ruu. After you run ruu just pd98img a recovery and flash away.

So are you saying that I would need to unlock the bootloader again then following the same steps I have now? I had the impression based off could threads I've read that there's a way to root the device while gaining S-OFF that will allow me to avoid having to manually flash the boot.IMG everytime i install a custom rom. If there's a thread I can read or a guide to follow please provide a link so that I can proceed. Oh, does all the pd98img file the same?
Thanks again.

Yeah that's right. Your not s off. Well here is the only method left for the inspire. It may be a bit intimidating but really isn't that hard. Here is link.

Your're right very intimidating, however I'm willing to try my only concern is what is dd highlighted below "High Level Steps (some detail deliberately NOT included)
htc dev unlock, install cwm recovery and root ONLY
dd the stock boot image to /data/local/tmp and pull it to your pc HD (/dev/block/mmcblk0p22 is boot)
adb shell dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p22 of=/data/local/tmp/boot.img
adb pull /data/local/tmp/boot.img"?
Also i navigated to the folder on my device however it doesn't show any boot.img file. Just a init.rc file. Could you explain just this part of it please?
Thanks again,

DD is copy and convert. It will copy boot files and convert it into boot.img. Use adb shell to do it as shell works within phone directories. Then pull it from pc using adb pull. He is giving you the exact adb commands to do both.
Code:
adb shell
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p22 of=/data/local/tmp/boot.img
adb pull /data/local/tmp/boot.img

Lol... I figured those were the commands to use, was just wondering what dd stand for.. ( copy and convert ). So let me see if i understand whats happening in the code.
So firstly I need to have the the HTC drivers installed and have the Android SDK on the root of c drive. Basically the same folder used when I unlocked to bootloader. In that folder I have the adb files, should I also add the files listed in the zip file he provided? If so let me explain the code, if no please shed some light.
So adb shell starts the emulator with the device
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p22 of=/data/local/tmp/boot will copy and convert the mmcblk0p22 file if it is found in the /dev/block folder on the device and place it to the /data/local/tmp/ folder and call it boot.img
adb pull /data/local/tmp/boot.img I'm thinking that the computer is going to pull the boot.IMG file from the /data/local/tmp folder however where is it putting it? In the same folder that I started the command prompt from? That is the Android folder on my c drive?

You will want to work out of the platform-tools directory.
Yes adb pull will always pull to your working directory unless another path is specified. Adb shell will need root. So if you type adb shell and don't see a # sign type su to get it. When done in adb shell you will need exit so you can pull to computer. If you had to take two steps to get a # prompt then you will type exit twice.

Kool, thats the directory i'm referring to... I'm sure i'm already rooted. But your saying that when i send the command "adb shell" if I don't see the # sign then i should type su. Are you then saying that if I had to type su twice then I need to hit exit twice to pull to pc?
Oh before I forget should i run ruu before attempting this or remain as is? Also, do I need cmw recovery installed or can i remain on twrp 2.6.0.0?
Thanks again bro..

Yes you would need to type su to see #. Adb shell root access works independently of phone root. It needs root access over adb which without an UN-secure boot img will need the su command. Exit for each level. Once for su and once for shell itself. You want to exit until you are back at Windows directory. Adb shell is at the phones root directory. The dd command is moving files within the phone, while Adb pull would be used to copy from phone to pc. I would not run that ruu if you are going to try and s off. I would run 2.47.502.7. Which I posted a link in the att stock Rom thread.

Yes go ahead and proceed as is. You should not have any issues. If not successful then try ruu. You may not be able to run the older ruu if your bootloader is newer. Which in that case just run the newer one. I beleive I used this process on a phone with the newer software but the older works for sure.

I encountered an issue while trying to pull the boot.img file from /data/local/tmp/. The command used was adb pull /data/local/tmp/boot.img I then got a msg saying the adb is not a command, if I remove the adb and send the command with just pull it says pull is not a command.
If I exit su "#" it brings me to $ and if I send the command again it says that I don't have permission. Can you advise what I might be doing wrong? Oh, I got the mmcblk0p22 file to copy and convert into the boot.img file. I was able to see it using ES File explorer on my phone.
Do I need to go in fastboot usb, does unknown sources need to be checked?
Thanks again.

You need to exit one more time so you can see c prompt with your platform tools folder. Your still in shell therefore still in phone and not actually pulling to your pc. Only the pc uses Adb commands so you have to be at your platform tools folder. If you restart your phone temp empties too so if you can't see boot img anymore that's why.
