[Q] Icons on App Drawer are mixed up after REBOOT - Sony Xperia L

Hi!
I used the default launcher of our XL..
On my home screen, I made 5 Folders for Web, Social, Games, Misc, and Japanese Language apps..
And I put at least 3 apps on every folder..
On my app drawer, I made folders for Google,Utilities, Games,Desktop, Sony, and Camera apps..And some individual apps like MX Player, recorder, calcu, ES file explorer, settings, TiBackUp, Speed Test and Greenify..
After every reboot of my phone, some of the icons(specially the user installed apps) are not on their folders on the home screen I made and have been lined up again on the app drawer.. Did some users experienced the same thing?any suggestions??
Thanks..

try to clear data of "Xperia Home".
You will lose all customize setting on homescreen.
Make again 5 folders and see if that works?
I am also trying to figure out exactly what reason that could be.

Has anyone ever figured out what causes it or how to fix the situation? I have the same issue with my Xperia Z1. App Drawer folders just disappear on reboot, sending the contained apps all over the drawer.
Tried both things (App Data Reset and specifically deleting data of Xperia Home) to no avail.

Move all apps from internal sd to phone, this will solve most issues. It's the same with modified icons & names in custom launchers when the apps are on the internal sd. It's because these apps are loaded after the launcher loads.

[Q]Where is DeskClock app on Khal's MIUI V2 ROM. Please help

I installed Khal's MIUI ROM successfully. But there is no Desk Clock on the Home Launcher pages. I used the "search" button on my phone and type "clock" so I can found it and use it.
But is there any method to make a icon on the Home Screen for quick use later. Please help me. Thank you.
Is there any solutions. If you don't know just let me know, or you guys look down on me.......
You can use MIUI clock widget and just click on it to launch the clock app. Alternatively you can use a different launcher.
You can try going into manage applications & clearing the cache and/or data on Launcher2
im pretty sure the clock app is in the tools folder on the home screen. my phones at motorola getting fixed so i cant look right now.
@CrystalShield no one looks down on anyone here. well at least they shouldnt. we have all had problems and it never hurts to ask. thats why we all come here, for community support
@easye420: I am sure that when I install the ROM of Khal of MIUI in this link. There is no app call "DeskClock" on home screen. I can list them here.
Page1: Gallery, Camera, music, Settings, Root Explorer (it's mine) , [Chinese something] and Theme manager.
Page2: Some Google Apps, facebook, memory, overclock, fast boot, twitter, and FM Radio.
page3: Wireless tether, Voice Search, News and weather and some of my apps (because everyone know our apps will stay at the end the these)
But I also use the "deckclock.apk" in /system/app to run the Clock. But i want it stay on my screen. I try use Shortcut, but when I click the shortcut, it "open App Manager" (like when we try to Run a APK file in ASTRO) and I also need to click on "launch" to run the app. It isn't what we want when we try to make a shortcut for an application, is it?
@3rdstring: I did, but it restore to original (still don't have it on Home).
Is there any solution for me.
By the way, Thanks all you guys very much. English is not my first language, if there is something impolite or immodest in my words. I'm sorry.................
And I am also newbie of this forum, so I don't have enough 10 posts to post and ask in the Development Box. That why I disturb you guys here. Sorry about that.
Reinstalling the app works. I just move the apk out from /system/app and install it as if it's another use app.
I have the same problem. Copying and installing doesn't work as the app has 0 bytes (!) and I always get the parsing error-obviously
If someone could upload the original with its proper size that'll be lovely.
Thanks.

I removed the DeskClock.apk from /system/app. But when I use the "search" button and type "clock". It's still there (and of course it still can be used). I have no idea about where the real app is.
It's really weird for me.(of course because I don't have enough knowledge)
This is what i do to get deskclock app to show on the screen.
1)Using root explorer copy the deskclock.apk from system/app to sdcard.
2)Using root explorer again delete deskclock.apk from system/app and in data/dalvik-cache look for [email protected]@[email protected] and delete it.
3)Restart ur phone.
4)install the deskclock.apk from sdcard and the app should appear on your screen.
Use launcher pro. Its faster, sexier and will show all your applications!

How to replace system apps?

I want to replace default launcher with LauncherPro, browser with Opera Mobile, etc., Do I just re-name the app (like browser.apk), and replace?
It would probably be better to just change the defaults so that the system will use LP and Opera.
Settings >applications >manage applications > clear the defaults for browser and twlauncher
Next time you press home it will ask for your preferred launcher. The next browser action will ask for your choice of browser.

For LauncherPro, this is fine, but for the browser, it doesn't ever want to work correctly, for different activities (like clicking links within apps, or doing a google search) it will ask me randomly which one to use.
I have another question, where are 3rd party apps (every app that's not a system app) stored?

I use the ADW Launcher as it has so many configurations. How many icons you want up or across, the main icons at the bottom of the page etc..
can i replace system apps by 3rd party?
No. You can not just overwrite system apps with third party ones. The second post explains the best way to take care of your request.
I think GO Launcher EX is the best out there. I've tried ADW and Launcher Pro and GO Launcher is the fastest, most stable one of the three. No homescreen hang/withdraw(unless the launcher crashes and restarts, which rarely happens but even when it does it's only for about 2-3 seconds)
Anyways, i wouldn't replace system apps unless it's to update(Like Swype. You sometimes need to uninstall it before you can install the updated version)
hi all, i like go sms but the program is very quick if i always to use it. if sometime i use it, the program is very slow to start.
so, what way is the solution, if i copy the apk file to the system/app/ so can it start to faster

Cool may give that a try I was gonna re do my phone anyhow.
Personally, when I replace a system app, just install whatever replacement app you want to use and the I use Titanium Backup to freeze the system app. You shouldn't get any pop-ups asking which app to use for an action, because there will only be one choice since the system app has been frozen.
i can't freeze any system apps by titanium backup.

Really works and it does so fast, clean and easy. I think it's the only app available on the Play Store that actually does this WITHOUT breaking the apps.
GREAT JOB!
Wish the UI was cleaner, based on ICS design elements.
Thanks!

Guess I must be doing something wrong...?
Great idea, this app!
However, I don't get the option to "hide" a particular item...
All it offers for me - when long-pressing an app - is "Clear data", "Freeze" or "Uninstall"...
What am I doing wrong/missing?

The freeze option would allow you to hide all icons and completely disable an app but this probably isn't what you want...
Short press the app to transition into the "Details" view at which point you'll see a list of icons associated with the application. Short press the icons you want to show/hide to check them and then click the "Show/Hide Icon(s)" button to process the operation.
After hiding/showing icons some launchers will require you to reboot before they actually show/hide.
I've installed it and when I run it, It asks for root permissions, which I click allow, but then the app just sits there with the spinning circle and "Asking for root permissions" It's been like that for about 10min so I think it's stuck

You should try installing BusyBox. See if that helps.

Haven't seen/heard of this before. My first suggestion would be to exit out and retry. If that doesn't work you can PM me here or email [email protected] (better option since it dings my phone ) and I'll try and help you resolve it.

I had the same problem here. I restartet the Device and it works now.
this is awesome, i've been looking for something like this since ditching non-stock launchers. Question, will uninstalling undo anything I hid? or do i need to do this before uninstalling to prevent apps from permanently being hidden? I also noticed that hiding the icons this way prevents them from showing up when searching on the Evo.

This application modifies system settings to hide the icons or freeze applications. They will continue to be hidden/frozen after uninstalling so you should unhide them first or reinstall the application when you need to restore them.
I installed this because it sounded like it would hide the icons but still let me use the apps. I spent about 10 minutes going through my apps and hiding them.
I hid my Apex launcher and after I exited the app the system freaked the **** out going to a few other apps and then finally the default CM9 launcher when I hit the home key.
Also it doesn't highlight everything I check to be hidden in blue. So I had to go through and unhide everything just to be safe, taking another 10 minutes to sort through my app list trying to remember what I ticked off. Around 500 apps, not fun.

Technically it disables the Activity associated with the icon which does in fact make it unusable while hidden. Beyond a launcher with the capability to hide icons this is the only way to do it.

For most launchers this would be fine as separate Activities are created for the "Settings" and "Launcher" functionalities. Unfortunately this is not the case with Apex launcher and I sent them an email a while back suggesting a change.
In general care should be taken while hiding launchers and system apps (titles in red). Maybe I should do something more than just the red text to indicate caution should be taken. Maybe a warning prompt with an option to disable it for those that like to live dangerously ;-)

Hmm I haven't heard of this issue but will definitely look into it. The Activities (icon rows) are not cached and are loaded when you enter the details screen so they should represent the current state (ie: blue = hidden).
In the next few days I'll be putting out an updated release that will contain filtering which would have made it easier to locate what you hid. Sorry for your troubles.
Just uploaded version 1.0.5. Only change is to filter Apex Launcher from the list of available applications since it doesn't like being hidden. As always shoot me an email at [email protected] and I'll be more than happy to help.
I assume that pretty much any launcher is going to react the same way if it's the active launcher and you're hiding it.
Anyway thanks for the quick response.

TB Pro multiple app uninstall

I'm not sure this is the right forum to post this question, if not please direct me to the proper place.
Is there an easy way to uninstall multiple apps with TBP? I tried to delete the pesky ones like Car Home, Fota Kill, Live Wallpaper, Magic Smoke, Music Visual Wallpaper, Pico TTS, Setup Wizard, etc., but once I reboot, they are back again, SO I tried removing a couple by long pressing each one and selecting the option of Force Remove app but it is going to take a while if eerytime I choose one it has to restart. Is there a way to do a multiple Froce Removal?
You could uninstall apps from the launcher itself (i don't think the stock launcher can do that), but in launchers like go launcher, next launcher, u just long press on the app and it shows a cross mark on top of it. Just hit that it will uninstall.
Or you can go to manage apps in settings, and do it there.
Are they system apps.? If so you should use any root browser and go into system /app and delete em.
Don't delete random apps. You might mess it up.
And BTW, this should be in Q & A. Not general

This are system apps that came with the CWM7. ADW doesn't allow me to uninstall them. Going into settings>manage apps doesn't give me the option to uninstall.
I've frozen the apps to make sure I am able to delete them with out any problems. I've uninstalled a couple one by one via TBP Force Removal BUT it would take forever because it reboots twice every time I remove an app.
Moderator can you please tranfer this to Q&A??? Sorry about that

Try clearing data for the Gallery app or reflashing your rom. I prefer using QuickPic and haven't used stock gallery apps since I preordered this phone. QuickPic allows you to set multiple different file paths to include so it picks up just those pics/vids in those directories.
I have cleared the cache and data but still not showing all wallpapers i got, but i noticed that some folders have begun to be showed also not all folders/wallpapers on the phone

You might want to try reflashing your rom then. As I said, I'm rather inexperienced with the stock Gallery app cuz I prefer third party. I never liked the UI of stock gallery apps.
I had trouble too with the stock gallery. I ditched it for Quickpic a long time ago.
