Uninstall odin & heimdall drivers. They will clash. Try different usb port/cable.
The price just dropped to under 2 bills for the smaller version. 250 for the other.

i finally got it working. thanks though. I was doing odin on my laptop and heimdall on my desktop,.
i got it in to cwm, then flashed a vahalla black (it was the only gb rom on my sd) then cm9 then cm10.1. and it worked befor i was just trying to reflash cm9 or cm10.1 though i never did get odin or heimdall to work.
I though for sure my internal storage was bjorked.

Sounds like it didn't convert too mtd. Now that your on cm9, it should flash properly.

Boot loop fix 2.3.4 ssgs 4g

Ok i finally figured out i recently boot looped my phone was trippin out because i couldnt get my phone to boot up it was stuck in boot loop and it kept saying invalid arguement.i didnt want to send my phone through warranty in fear that they would deny it out of desperation i tried again to down load the firmware and this is what i did after days of disspair. What you need to do is this…….1) put your phone in download mode this works with phones that are not hard bricked only those in boot loop ……2) erase all files you previously downloaded, even delete them from your recycle bin so there are no confusions with any files downloaded from your pc……3) download from androidadvices.com the 2.3.3 firmware upgrade and all of its files . Send files to your desktop then enter androidadvices.com when you open the file so that you may extract files, then upload all files as they show you on the 2.3.3 firmware instructions…..4)..... ( pay close attn to this step).....!!!after you load the firmware odin should fail in resetting your phone but what this does is enter the file necessary to reboot your phone accordingly, this gets rid of your boot loop !!!…..5) now enter a desired firmware from android advices.com i used the stable 2.3.4 firmware download to put into my phone installed it and got my phone to reset appropriately and now i have my phone back this should also work for you all boot loop stuck galaxy s 4 g phones by t mobile . i hope this works for all of you with the problem.i was scared worried and concerned but hey curiosity killed the cat, and can also put a cheshire smile on its face good luck
there is no need for Odin any longer once you have drhonks GB kernel because recovery is built in so bootlooped or soft bricked you can just go into cwm and reflash from there

Unless ofcourse, you flash a bad kernel.

I just bootlooped my phone trying to flash icbinb, so I gave up and tried to go back to Valhalla 1.1. But then that bootlooped as well, leaving me no choice but to start from scratch and odin the leaked KG4.

I've been wondering about that because I have never seen an "update.zip" on my sdcard. What is the update.zip that it expects?
I actually hit that option by mistake trying to flash a rom, but of course it said file not found.
YOU DO NOT FLASH UPDATE.ZIP.

ever since drhonks gb kernel i havent touched ODIN since

Reboot into recovery and install a different rom.
I had this exact same thing on my daughter's Sidekick, where a custom kernel didn't want to boot the phone up.
I tried restoring the backup I had made; nothing. I factory reseted it; nothing.
Loaded up another rom (last ditch effort), and BAM, it went through.
So try rebooting into recovery and load another rom.

[Q] I am stuck in a CWM boot loop.

Hello all, I need your help. Today I flashed a zip on a whim, and it has ruined my whole day.
I have managed to get back to CWM v2.5.1.3 RED, and can flash zips and clear cashes, all that. But when I reboot, it brings me right back to CWM. Any help for me? I am lost.
Thanks in advanced,
Nate
P.S. I am not afraid of the command line.
Try odin?
I have tried GTG Unbrick. That's how I've gotten as far as I have.
How long does it usually take? I'm staring at the Odin screen for about 5mins now and it still says "Set Partition" and "DO NOT TURN OFF TARGET!!"
Alright, FIXED, I just needed to keep retrying. It took like 5 attempts to get it going right.

Another KIES ICS update failure?

Posted this in the Kies ICS update thread as well .. can anyone help?
Ok, so I'm at the Firmware upgrade and initialization screen in Kies ... it's been stuck at 2% for about 20 minutes now. I'm assuming this is a problem. Anyone have advice on what I should do? Let it go ... disconnect, restore with CWM and try again?
My config when I started:
GB 2.3.6 - rooted, cwm touch installed
(Running on Windows 7 through VMWare on a MacBook Pro if that matters)
You need to be on stock recovery for it to work.

Damn.
So ... do I pull the plug, restore to the CWM backup I ran before running the update and then flash the stock recovery on it?
Odin back to 2.3 stock and it flashes stock recovery.

Thanks man, I'll give it a rip and post an update in a bit.
ODIN hates me.
I wasn't able to flash anything with odin, it just kept failing or hanging.
Fortunately, I was able to use CWM to recover so I got back up and running on my rooted 2.3.6 setup.
I tried Kies update again, same result. Ran through the download, then hit 2% on the install and hung. Odd thing is, Odin lets me flash CWM and I was able to recover with that again. But, Odin continues to fail on ROM flashes. This just doesn't make sense.

Sorry, I mean firmware via Odin. I should be more careful with my words

Am I right ?

Ok ,my girlfriend bought a new infuse and now she wants a custom ROM preferably ics on it ! It's on 2.2.1 ATM so I read around n as far as I could find out here is what I need to do :
1. Use Odin stock GB package to flash stock GB, I found a thread but it says it had no bootloaders. This is the confusing part shouldn't the Odin have GB bootloaders ?
2. Once I m on GB bootloaders if I don't have root n cwm I flash a kernel to get those
3.then I flash a ROM as per instructions in OP
Am I right ? O am I missing something? Also would be a great help if someone would tell me which is the safest method to get GB bootloaders on infuse ? Thanks a lot in advance
Sent from my SGH-I897 aka Captivate running on ICS using the awesome XDA app !
No, not really any of that is necessary. Root the phone on 2.2.1, install CWM via ROM manager (found in Google play), download and install Cyanogenmod 7 (found at cyanogenmod.com) on her phone (no matter what version, just v7), then flash an ICS ROM the same way as the Cyanogenmod 7 ROM, no other stuff.
ROM install instructions:
Wipe data/factory reset
Wipe cache
Wipe dalvik cache
Install (Gapps if required)
Reboot

Don't take his word for it, as I don't think he even has an Infuse. Cyanogen doesn't officially support the Infuse at the moment, so you won't find a CM7 rom there for the Infuse. Since you are still on 2.2 and have root, you can use Rom Manager from the Play Store to install recovery. You'll note that there isn't a choice for the Infuse in the device list. Choose Galaxy S i9000, and that recovery will work for the Infuse (Don't try to use i9000 roms on the Infuse, though, because they won't work without being properly ported.). Once you get CWM recovery, choose your rom from the Infuse development section here, and follow the instructions there for installation. We also don't advise using Rom Manager for much else, as some have had issues on the Infuse. It's best to do nandroid backups, rom flashes, etc. directly in CWM recovery on this device.
By the way, the previous poster has a Galaxy S i9000, and his instructions for flashing an ICS rom aren't correct for our device either. Be sure to follow the instructions found in any of the rom threads here once you get CWM recovery.
All that said, since you mentioned Odin, you could also just flash Option C with Odin from HERE, and you'll have AT&T Gingerbread with root, CWM recovery, and a bunch of other goodies. This is a good base from which to flash any other rom you'll find in the dev section.
You also asked about bootloaders for Gingerbread. If you take issue with seeing rainbow artifacts in recovery and in the boot animation (the only issue that you will have without them), then you will need to flash them separately. We don't include them in Odin packages, because a failed bootloader install is really just about the only way you can hard brick an Infuse. If you can sucessfully flash other items in Odin, and are on Gingerbread or ICS, download and extract THIS package, and flash the tar.md5 in Odin. In seconds, you'll have the bootloaders, and will never need to flash them again.

Thanks a ton for the elaborate detail I.would try the Odin method as I an very comfortable with it but I've last question since u said that those packages don't have bootloaders , when I flash those Odin packages I will have GB on the phone but no GB bootloaders ? U mean I will run a GB ROM on froyo bootloaders? It's that even possible? I ask this because on captivate when I moved from froyo to GB we flashed Odin along with bootloaders so I had a GB ROM with GB bootloaders in fact other we were asked to first flash GB bootloaders n then flash a ROM ! And if that it's possible then all I have to do is just Odin that GB package without the bootloaders and then flash the bootloaders once and for all, right? Sorry for being a noob in this section but it's better being a noob rather than hard bricking a infuse lol

Yes, you can have and run Gingerbread on the phone without GB bootloaders. The only side effect will be that you will see rainbow distortion in recovery and during the boot animation. Other than that, on the Infuse, Gingerbread runs fine on Froyo bootloaders. So, you are right. Odin the GB package without the bootloaders, and when that's done flash the bootloaders. You won't have to flash the bootloaders again as they can't be downgraded. Froyo runs fine on the upgraded bootloaders, too, by the way.
Oh sweet ! Thanks a ton will flash it now , she has been eating my head to get rid of the at n t bloatware finally I will get her phone on ics thanks a ton for pointing me in the right direction and bearing with my noobish questions ! Thanks to everyone

If you have no rainbows or glitches, then the bootloaders that are on the phone are fine. If you are using Aeon 1.4, and don't have any glitches in recovery, then it is safe to assume that you most likely have the GB bootloaders. Some kernels have workarounds for the rainbow artifacts, so if you flash something later and find that you have rainbow distortion, you can always flash bootloaders at that time. For now, if all is good, then there is no need to worry about bootloaders. To answer your question, though, the best way to know is to check recovery and boot animation. If there is no distortion, and everything boots properly, then you have the proper bootloaders for your setup.
Thank you for the fast reply. Yes i dont have any problem there. Reason i wish to make sure is- my phone no longer recognised in pc hemidall or odin, tried all but failed. It charge with usb but no luck in download mode. Willing to try ics so anxious.

Yeah, those issues aren't related to your bootloaders. You'll want to try different USB ports, another cable, uninstall and reinstall your Samsung USB drivers (and your Heimdall libusb driver for one specific USB port), etc. But, the bootloaders aren't to blame for your issues there.
Ye i tried. I'm on ubuntu so heimdall is my choice. Usb could be board problem. So willing to play safe so that i wont got in situation where i need heimdall i know my chance is slim for ics considering the issue that may occur.

If you are that anxious to flash ICS, you can do it without the bootloaders.. you will just have the rainbows with which you can live for a while.
Then later when you get a chance of using Windows, use Odin to flash them.
