My dad has a Skyrocket with all fully stock android Gingerbread. It is not rooted and he is having problems with the App Shazam.
It will run and work but when he goes to playback the songs he tagged he keeps getting this message "Sorry there was a network error"
I have tried on 4G and then I tried running it on WiFi only.
I have uninstalled it many time and reinstalled many times. I even tried different versions of the App. Could this be a problem with the Phone or is it a problem with Shazams sever?
Why is he using such an old os? That is a two year old os.

He will not upgrade for two reasons.
1. He will not upgrade unless its an official upgrade from AT&T.
2. He's afraid he will lose his games, apps and data.
There are official updates he is way behind. He will lose nothing.

Go into settings, about phone. There should be a software upgrade option. It's been awhile since I've had the stock firmware on so if it's not there let us know. There are other, safe, ways to put it on too.

Yes. People pull the downloaded ota and your can flash it in stock recovery. I have the lg7 update straight from Verizon if you want it. I think it only works on lf2. If your on lg1 I think you need a different one.
Edit: I'm going into work so I'm gonna post it for you just in case your welcome. This is not modified in any way whatsoever.

Sorry, I missed that. As long as you aren't rooted and haven't otherwise messed with the phone at all, I'd go ahead and call Verizon and see what they can do. You should be getting updates OTA and if you are not through no fault of your own, it's their responsibility to fix it, especially with the huge security hole that was found in these phones recently.
I had a VW S3 that wasn't receiving the update for OTA and when I talked to the rep he said to use Kies. Kies does say that it will update your phone but I had a problem connecting it. The only way the app will update is if you have your phone connected through USB. I tried and tried and tried but I couldn't get the computer to see my phone in the Kies program to sync it. It would connect through WiFi real quick.

I flashed CM 10.1 and got some errors about network connectivity, so decided to just go back to my backup of a rooted stock image. Afterwards i still see that i dont have network connectivity, and i am now roaming. I Saw some guides saying to flash back to a stock image. But can i do that with an OTA JB version already? and ive read about just "reprovision my phone", will it work even with the rooted stock image?
Thanks
and my IMEI is still in tact

and im not exactly sure by what you mean subscription type, and can i just do the reprovision code if im just OTA JB with just root?
Under mobile settings there is an option for CDMA subscription type it must be rui/sim, nit sure if it's on stock though.
Also the repro vision code doesn't work on jb that's why you must go back to root66

Dudes battery drains over the course the phone reboots to try and install said update phone dies and bricks. Kies ensures that A. You have a good download of the update package and B. Since you are connected you have juice to update the phone. This is CYA stuff not an oversight. I've seen tons of noobs on plenty of phones "the ota bricked my phone".

Yeah I know that the carrier controls whether an update will be released or not. They have to put all their bloatware and test it!
I was asking for the OTA vs Kies part. I thought that Since ICS (4.0), everything was available from OTA. But I think that you can always choose to update via Kies. I did not know that an update could only be released via Kies (disabling OTA). Not sure either.
Anyways! As I said, for me, not important anymore!!

I was able to check for start downloading the OTA from AT&T after already getting it on kies by reflashing to stock ICS. I stopped the OTA though because I wanted to redownload it in Kies to get the tar from the temp file for backup. The funny thing is that I had to do it twice because I messed up trying to find the file before it disappeared. It disappears after flashing is complete so you have to reflash ICS and do it again. Or u can take the easy way and download it off the web...but where's the fun in that?

You probably have years of crap and apps that is causing the problem. Doing a clean install is a big process but will probably solve your problem. But you'll lose just about everything on your phone. You'll have to decide if it's worth it and also what info you can't lose and how to back it up.

That's good enough. That's not the current os for our phone. Do some reading and clean install the latest os.

So, will I be able to get that info from here and is it difficult?

You probably have years of crap and apps that is causing the problem. Doing a clean install is a big process but will probably solve your problem. But you'll lose just about everything on your phone. You'll have to decide if it's worth it and also what info you can't lose and how to back it up.

What is your best suggestion? If you don't mind.

Read vincom's sticky in the development forum on how to return to stock. I'd suggest you do that using kies. It'll up date your firmware to 4.1.2, jellybean. You'll need to do a factory reset after you install which will clean out all your garbage.

Will do.
Thank you so much for your time and effort.
I would read vincoms sticky thread. Then I would back up anything you don't want to lose. Next, I would download the 4.1.2 tar and use Odin to flash it. Factory reset and you're done

Hey guys,
I thought I'd make a new separate thread for the OTA update instead of the LG Tool method. OTA just started going out to phones. I was wondering:
Anyone get the OTA yet? And if you did use the OTA, did you root before and keep your root?
Thanks everyone!
As far as ive read you wont revive a OTA if your rooted, You would have too un-root/flash stock, Update then re-root.

Did you keep root after the update?
Sent from my LG-D801 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I did the OTA and lost root. I'm not sure if it would make any difference, but I did not check the setting in SuperSU to maintain root after OTA. I'm not sure if this would work anyway.

No tricks. Just decided to check and there it was. I just picked up my white G2 yesterday evening from T-Mobile.

Sometimes it takes a few days
Still no OTA. What gives?
I got my notification just last night. So it should slowly get to everyone.
Note 1: It would not install until I charged my phone.
Note 2: I still got the notification for my T-Mobile D801 even though I'm unlocked and on H2O.
