[Q] Root and then Unlock Bootloader with April OTA? - RAZR HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey again all,
I can't find a very clear answer on this. It appears I can Root and then unlock the bootloader with android 4.1.2, System Version: 9.16.9.XT926.Verizon.en.US. I have been super afraid to find this out for sure by trying it. Has anyone done it?
Thanks all!

I don't see how it's not clear not a single post says you can unlock the bootloader after the update. You can unlock it. At best you can root and run safestrap.

The reason it isn't clear to me is because there are other sites that say you CAN root and then unlock the bootloader, several days AFTER the april update. Here:
http://androidcommunity.com/droid-razr-hd-android-4-1-2-jelly-bean-update-receives-root-20130410/ Which allows root after the update
and this, that allows unlock after root:
http://androidcommunity.com/motorol...ore-bootloader-unlock-tool-released-20130408/
The link above says you can't unlock 4.1.2 because there is no root for it (this was posted 4/8/13), but on 4/10/2013 rooting became possible.
SO CONFUSED

That exploit is the only bootloader exploit we have and after the update it doesn't work anymore. There's not a new tool.

Well that's a son of a *****....so the most I can do would be to root, update to the latest OTA for verizon, and remove all the bloat?
I thought the fix came in the July update, not april.

Wait your not on the newest update? Then yeah you can root and unlock man. That's pretty clear too lol.

Unless I am not reading this right in "About Phone". (Which is totally possible) Everything looks to be showing as APRIL ota. Build date, and kernel version are april. Build number is 9.8.1Q-62_VQW_MR-4

Not from running an exploit.

If you don't take the July OTA, you can ROOT and UNLOCK! I have exact same "everything' as you and have had zero problems.
[ROOT] -> Motochopper-1.1
[UNLOCK BOOTLOADERr] -> Motopocalypse
Follow simple instructions
Play Store -> VooDoo Rootkeeper

The sequence of how you do this is:
1. Root
2. Unlock Bootloader
3. Install Custom Recovery (such as TWERP)

2. Unlock Bootloader

I took the OTA sadly so I can't unlock :,(

If you got the latest OTA update on your phone already, there currently is no root for that version yet. The latest OTA update made downgrading to ICS undoable. So, if you're on the newest OTA, you'll pretty much have to sit tight until it's possible to root on Jelly Bean itself.

Yea... I had a Razr Maxx and used Titanium Backup to remove lots of it. Looking forward to doing the same thing with Razr Maxx Hd
I also used Titanium Backup to freeze all of the bloatware. I took it a step further and created a filter and labels for frequntly used apps that eat up system resources and data. For example, I would unfreeze as needed Google Play store and Maps etc., then refreeze. I saw a huge increase in battery life etc.
Anywho... hopefully a root method is on its way soon.

Hopefully? Iord I've been praying for it and even trying to pay for it lol. I was so focused on getting the 4.1.2 update that I rushed it and found out a day or few later as other people got it that you can't even downgrade to previous versions (son of a Bi***....) so I seriously regret taking the update as now we are on a long waiting list that may never come...

Rooting xt925 on 4.1.2 without unlocking the bootloader?

Is that possible? All the root tools threads I seem to be able to find on here and rzr forum have posts that say it doesn't work with the latest OTA update. Am I missing something here? Is Motorola so actively patching everything that there is no way to get root if the device has the latest OTA update?
Thanks.
Root is still possible by rolling back to the older firmware but you can't unlock the bootloader.

Oh, since it is a 925 (probably international edition), can't I just ask Motorola to unlock the bootloader? https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/standalone/bootloader/unlock-your-device-a
Also, how does one roll back to older firmware? RSDLite and flashing older stock, like on Atrix HD?

Nice, I will give this a try. However, why the 900+ MB Lite? Wouldn't the 3 MB Ultra-Lite work for just rooting and unlocking the bootloader? Or did you have to use the stock stuff as well?
Also, did you try the Toolkit 4.0? Did that fail as well? As far as I can see, both use the same methods for unlocking and rooting!
Cant remember now, I tried all the others and none worked and I stumbled across it
I think the micro download was not enough (sorry cant recall what extra was needed) but I remember on the micro the numbers on the menu did not match with the commands (look at the batch file) but the normal was fine

Check out development forum. Lots of info in there, but I don't think so. How'd you get back to previous version? Maybe the exploit fix sticks. I hate all this preventives to keep us from unlocking bootloader. If we want to void our warranty let us. These phones arent cheep and android is open source. BS

[Q] Can I get 4.3 or similar??

Yes, you can root your phone. Rooting and unlocking the bootloader are two different things. If you're on the latest update, you won't be able to unlock anyway. If your BL isn't unlocked, you won't be able to use any of the 4.3 based ROMs. I don't think there have been any developed for use on SafeStrap.
If your on the new update you can't unlock your bootloader. Which means the best you'll get get is debloated stock roms.

Debloated stock just means is the Verizon builds, just with some of the extra software taken out and tweaked. It's not like cyanogen mod which had more options and tweaks. But with a locked bootloader its the best your gonna get.

However, you can use Xposed Framework to do a lot of modding/tweaking to a stock ROM. I am running a custom ROM, but I still use Xposed for a lot of things. You can theme your stock ROM in ways that are very similar to having a theme manager on AOSP ROMs.
have you verified for sure that you cannot unlock the bootloader? it doesn't hurt to try, unless you already tried.

Which is why I said if you haven't unlocked the bootloader.
Once it's unlocked, it's unlocked. You can't lock it back up because apparently, it's a physical change in the phone, such as a fuse being blown or something like that. At least, that's what I've read. http://blog.azimuthsecurity.com/2013/04/unlocking-motorola-bootloader.html
Apparently, it's something Qualcomm has created called a QFuse. These are software programmable fuses that once blown, they can NEVER be put back to their prior state. In Motorola devices, there is a FORCE_TRUSTED_BOOT QFuse. This is all explained by Dan Rosenburg who is the developer that gave us the ability to unlock our Droid RAZR HDs. it's a good read and explains a lot.
Of course, it never hurts to try and unlock it after downgrading back to the previous version.

doesn't hurt but is 100% pointless, as the system version has nothing to do with the trust zone files that cant be changed back.
the system version serves as a reference point to when it used to be possible in relation to the other files that were irrevocably updated, nothing more.

Droid Razr HD bootloader (9.18.94)

Hey guys, I have a Motorola Droid Razr HD, 9.18.94.XT926.
Recently there was found an exploit for this version to gain root access. So I did it (using method for samsung galaxy s3, which i found here). Now I do have root access, but I'm interested if I can install custom roms, for example cyanogenmod. As far as I know it needs unlocked bootloader. I'm not sure if my bootloader is unlocked or not, so I cant risk just following instructions from cyanogenmod's website.
So, my question is, how do i check if bootloader is unlocked or not, and if it's not, how do I unlock it, given that when downloading Android SDK from motorola website, where I tried to unblock bootloader, I cant install it, archive is broken or something. Thanks in advance (Sorry for the bad English)
I you're on .94 and never unlocked, you won't be able to now. To check, boot into AP Fastboot and see if says locked or unlocked.

So I read up on it...If I'm not horribly mistaken(which is very possible) that root only works for android 4.2 and 4.3 which means that I'd need the OTA for 9.30.1 which my droid doesn't think I need.

.94 and .1 are the same update, just different designations. The HD has never made it past 4.1 in stock form yet, so there is no 4.2 or 4.3. Safe Root will work on your system version.

I have an XT926 Maxx HD. Stock. Locked bootloader.
Three days ago, I rooted, installed Safestrap and ROM'd with Nexesque v3.6. All using instructions here on XDA. Root and Safestrap were simple. Getting the ROM loaded was a bit of a challenge, but it worked fine, except for a google.process.gaaps failure message upon rebooting each time. But it doesn't seem to affect anything. But other than that, runs quite quick. Tried RageHD and it didn't work for me at all. Could just be my phone.
