Hello, I'm fairly new to this kind of stuff. I have a Galaxy S3 SCH-I535. It was rooted by a friend who knew way more about this stuff than I did. Well now my charger/usb port on the phone won't work. I want to send it in to Samsung for repair, but I recently learned that rooting it voids the warranty. So I was going to do what my friend called using Odin to bring it back to stock. Well i was going to use this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1762709 which he directed me to. But I see you need a USB cable for this. Is there any way to do it without a USB cable? Thanks for any help in advance.

Since you're rooted, you could try using Mobile Odin app (please check if it is compatible with your device first). :good:
Thanks!

wow, ive tried many places ad all ive read is there is no way to do it. ive never been directed to this app. i will study it out and see if i can use it for this. thank you so much though i'm finally getting somewhere.
question thought. the reason i'm trying to odin it is so i can send it in to samsung to get it repaired because i'm still under the 1st year warranty. my other option is to send it to a local phone repair shop to get it fixed. what do you suggest?

Ok well, they won't fix it if its rooted. So, with that Mobile ODIN app, can i still do the steps in section 5 of http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1762709 ?

Didn't mean to like your post so enjoy it. Lol. Anyway it's not hard. I have done it multiple times. Just grab mobile Odin and the 4.1.2 file from Samsung or the stickies. Load up mobile Odin and select your Odin Stock Image. Click start and 10 minutes later you are done. You can't really screw up mobile Odin. IMO it's easier than normal Odin. Just make sure you have an unlocked bootloader b4 using mobile Odin. It will lock you after flashing though so you don't need to worry. Remember Odin wipes Internal SD!!

I was caught in a boot loop and tried to re flash, when in my haste I forgot that Odin will recheck partition when loading .Pit files (pretty lame feature)
Still it was my fault for clicking start in haste.
**phone was partitioned, and would not go into download mode, it was stuck in a screen that said "Firmware update error, please restore in Kies", but it wouldn't connect to kies**
I sent my phone to XDA member Connexion2005

I haven't got it in my hands yet, but he just told me it was fixed, I can't wait to get it back and leave it the hell alone (until someone makes CM7 or better work on it)
anyhow, this is out there so if you do what I did (DON'T) there's a solution. Set me back $50 plus shipping to TX from NYC but still, I didn't have to get a whole new phone.

Please elaborate. Not finding much info on this "uberfixit", but it sounds like it's some method of re-creating the stock filesystem that's flashable in odin?
I was putting this out there, because I'm not the only one that this will happen to.
yea it happens when you repartition, an uberfixit requires a complete dump of the phone and quite a bit of time, but will completely fix what you described
the problem with repartitioning is that it wipes the phone clean and then starts to reinstall everything, problem is neither one of teh tars has the full dump (we do it for the sake of saving actual bricks)
knowing someone who can jtag is great we have had a few epic 4g touches that crashed and burned and were saved via jtag.

it's all good, bottom line is I f'd up my device, but now its fixed.
um...yeah...
So i did the exact same thing as you... Been trying to find anyone who can help me out. Is there anyway I can fix it myself? I haven't found a single place in my whole state that can fix the problem. If at all possible, I'd like to avoid sending it out for repair.
So how do I get this uberfixit?
I stupidly re-partitioned using Odin, also: I did not realize that Odin re-checked the check box -even after unchecking- when a new pda file was loaded. My bad. Totally though it was bricked until i was able to flash this stock gingerbread rom, but now kies says that my Blaze S does not qualify for upgrades... Did the re-partitioning do this?
I can no longer get to the recovery screen, although if I restart my blaze while connected to a pc via usb, it does allow the "re-install OS?" page to display, and I can get to recover from there: But absolutely no more access to the recovery "menu" which allows me to wipe cache/restore to factory/etc.

I don't care if it wipes my phone completely as I was trying to flash a new rom anyways. Please reply I'm desperate to get this thing working again.

Hey folks, I've been doing some reading on the topic this morning and found some good options but need a few more specifics and maybe some extra expert opinion. Something is awry with my USB port - It will charge but cannot get it to recognize the presence of the computer. It also goes through seasons where it rapidly toggles back and forth to/from dock mode.
Basic facts/stats:
SGS3 verizon, SCH-I535, running 4.0.4 I535VRLF2.
Rooted, Stock ROM, never unlocked bootloader.
Running CWM Recovery v5.5.0.4
I'm trying to restore to a point where I can do a warranty return for the hardware issue without being dinged for software mods.
So I think my options are these.. Feedback?
Mobile Odin... but don't want to unlock the bootloader, seems to be a step in the wrong direction.
ABD Wifi
Terminal emulator on the phone
Here's a thread that I found helpful...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=27206637&postcount=5
So, finally, my questions that I haven't been able to find an answer to...
Anyone know where can I find the stock recovery image? Not hard to find an image for the whole system, but why flash the whole kit'n'kabodle when you only need the one part?
If I was going to go the ABD/terminal route, is this the correct command? dd if=location of image of=/dev/block/mmblk0p22. This is the location for the Galaxy S2, but not sure if it is correct for S3.
Thanks guys, definitely don't want to make a mistake here in this crippled situation.

Your on ICS. I would just use EZ-unlock 1.2 and unlock. Takes about about 30 seconds. If flash counter is tripped use free Triangle Away here on XDA to reset it. Another minute. Then use Mobile Odin to flash back full stock image. About 10 minutes. Done.

Several, and the cables work with my old phone w/ no problems. Reinstalled the samsung drivers. I'm pretty sure that it's the USB due to the issue with rapid toggling in/out of dock mode. A quick squirt of compressed air fixes the dock mode issue but there are still periodic re-occurrences.
Downloading the stock firmware now. I'll keep you all posted. Thanks a ton for the advice.
Try the xperia x8 drivers. I can't get the Samsung ones to connect for anything. I haven't had an issue since ditching the Samsung ones.
I had the same problems, constant toggling. Just my opinion, it's a driver issue.

I was following a tutorial on rooting my Galaxy S3 and by mistake I loaded the "VRALEC.bootchain.tar.md5" file under the boot loader option rather than the PDA option.
This was the tutorial "How To Root Verizon Samsung Galaxy S3 4.1.2/4.1.1 & Install CWM Recovery! SCH-I535."
Now my phone won't boot at all and isn't being recognized by my computer when plugged in. Any help with this is greatly appreciated!

If your phone doesn't power on at all no led, no recovery or download access, no vibration even, then I'm afraid by putting the VRALEC.bootchain.tar.md5 in the wrong spot and flashing it through Odin you have hard bricked your phone. At this point warranty would be your best option.

If anyone at Verizon has any clue why a phone won;t turn on , then you might be right, but they don;t and they don;t have the time to worry with it, so they will just replace it if its less than a year old.

That part is true.
So there's absolutely no way to recover it at this point. I didn't get a warranty on it specifically because I was planning on running Cyanogenmod.

No, there is a way to recover it. There just is not a fixable way via xda. Third party services such as MobileTechVideos can fix your phone via jtag as a few others suggest.

If you don't have a warranty on your device the only other real option is to use JTAG to revive the phone. I would recommend checking out this place that will repair your bricked Galaxy S3 for you.

He was simply asking if it could be fixed, which is kind of what this section is for. I personally would've asked the same question if it happened to me because I haven't seen any questions based on this specific chain of events. He just put the file in the wrong slot, could happen to people, now this specific question will be able to be searched for by people who actually search.
So to answer the question, your bootloader is kind of your essential command for your phone that starts the booting process. You basically erased that with a file that doesn't execute that process. Luckily a jtag is able to rewrite that entire command. I think it's only $60, which is well worth the cost.

okay i upgraded to 4.3 OTA and tried to revert back and soft bricked my phone. I still have access to download mode and the stock recovery. I know now that i can not revert but is there any way of getting it back to 4.3 so i can have a phone again?
thanks for the future help.
This is similar what happened to me. I have never done anything with my phone as far as rooting and I tried reverting to stock 4.1.2. In Odin I kept getting the "Nand Start! Fail (Auth)" because of the locked bootloader I guess. I flashed some other firmware that was unofficial with the locked bootloader and now I get the "unauthorized software detected" and I cant do anything but enter Odin download mode. What should I do?
that is exactly what is happing to me. same error and all.
Once you took the OTA 4.3 you got locked in. No way of going back.

If you took the OTA and tried to flash 4.1.2 Odin or unlock bootloader you are Hard bricked , no method or recovering it yet.
If you have stock recovery and download mode , only hope is wait for 4.3 .tar file
Theres no custom recovery I can flash and flash some other software or something?

Not to mention it is basically fraud, and is the main reason Verizon decided to start locking down phones in the first place.
I understand everyone is taking risks when flashing custom, and flashes can go wrong even when you do everything right, but there is VERY little chance of bricking your phone if you take your time and do a bit of research before you hit any buttons. And if you do manage to brick your phone, man up and pay for a new phone or pay for it to be fixed. Otherwise stop treating your $600 piece of technology like a toy.

The first time I ever rooted, I was worried about bricking. So i read everything I could find relevant.
Why in the world anyone would flash without reading is beyond me. Every single thread in Verizon Galaxy S3 at least mentions, if not totally devoted, to how bad 4.3 is and if you flash something on it you will brick.
I just don't get it.

If you do a battery pull and start back up in download mode (might take a couple of times to get it to work) then use the Verizon software upgrade assistant it should fix it but you will be stuck with 4.3. Worked for me
I rooted my Verizon gs3 using Saferoot (I think). I dropped the phone and cracked the screen and digitizer (phone will power on but can't see anything on the screen). I've received my insurance replacement phone and have to send the cracked one back. Is there any way to unroot the phone before I return it? I did trade for the phone used so I could plead ignorance and say that the previous owner must have done it if Verizon catches it. TIA

Look for a program that will display your screen through the computer.
Or you could simply flash a stock 4.4.2 rom through download mode, then everything looks like it hasn't been touched. Download mode is easy to get into and you don't need a working screen.

Thanks! I'll have to do some research on getting into download mode or if you can please point me to a guide. I've never flashed a rom to my phone (although I have thought about it). The main thing that I've ever needed has been root to be able to use the wifi tethering.

Power off phone, then it's power +volume down +home. Once it boots, give it a minute then hit volume up. You can verify you're in download mode if Odin recognizes your phone.

Thanks again! I am a complete noob when it comes to Odin so I'll research. I mess with this type stuff strictly for myself and just to see if I can. So I don't do it often. I normally don't ask questions unless I just can't seem to find the answers on my own.

Check the softbrick repair guide, instructions are completely laid out for you, just make sure you use a 4.4 rom not the included 4.3 rom.
